Lin couldn't help but grin from ear to ear. Not only was that an amazing strategic move but Aethos' exclamation was just the icing on the cake, because if you told anyone who knew the old Aethos that he would be making a bet and being positively giddy, they would have thought you were crazy.
"That must have taken a lot of practice and something she might have done before," Lin commented quietly, "It looks awkward but she does it too well for it to be awkward to her."

"Agreed," Earendil agreed. "Shall we go see her?"
Iorlas looked at the two of them. "That's one of the people in your group?" she asked, surprised.
Earendil chuckled at her as they started over towards the crowd (which was beginning to disperse). "And the man who shouted as well. Believe it or not, only a year ago he didn't even know how to smile."
A look of wonder crossed Iorlas' face, and she followed after him curiously.

Miyuki slipped through the crowd making her way towards Aethos. Who she was still more familiar with than Alassea. Besides he was fun to be around some of the time.
"Aethos!"
"I wonder how this whole thing started," Lin murmured with a small smile on her face.
It looked like they were having fun, and she was glad for that... for the both of them.

"Does she always carry that staff with her?" Iorlas asked curiously.
Earendil nodded affirmatively, and she nodded slowly. "That could be it. Anyone carrying a staff is considered fair game here. It's sort of the village's pride, I think."
Aethos had been about to run to Alassëa to congratulate her, but he turned to see who had called his name. "Hey, Miyuki!" he beamed. "There you are! We were wondering when all of you would show up. Where have you been? No, never mind that right now. Did you see that spar? Did you see how Alassëa won?"
There was a sharp whistle, and the falcon dove down from the sky and landed on the blind woman's shoulder.

"Alassea's staff helps her get around, well it's part of the reason why she's able to get around," Lin explained.
Of course after a fight like that it was really hard to tell that Alassea was blind.
"I did! Well not the beginning but the end where Alassea did that neat trick," Miyuki told him, "We just got back from buying a staff."

Iorlas blinked. "Able?" she asked. She looked back at Alassëa to see if she could see what Lin meant. As she looked, Alassëa changed her grip on the staff and started tapping the ground in front of herself, making her way over to Aethos.
"Oh ..." Iorlas murmured softly in enlightenment. "So when Miyuki said she could fight very well blind, she didn't just mean with a blindfold on ..."
Aethos grinned at Miyuki. "Excellent," he said, though it was hard to tell if he was glad she'd seen the end of the fight, or if he was glad that she'd gotten a staff. "Now come on, let's go congratulate her properly."

Lin nodded, "Nope, Alassea literary fights blind. She is really quite amazing..."
For many reasons, Lin herself could not imagine the sort of things Alassea had to go through, or being able to fight that well blind. Certainly she had heard the concept, her mother did it to prove a point to her mage students about meditation and observation, but it was something else when someone actually had that handicap.
"Okay!" Miyuki looked and called over so Alassea knew she was there, "Alassea!"

A smile spread over Alassëa's face, and she picked up her pace, heading more quickly now towards Aethos and Miyuki.
"Hello, Miyuki," she greeted the kitsune warmly. "Do you have a good morning?"
Her speech was coming along marvelously - thanks to endless hours of talking with Aethos.
Iorlas found herself admiring Alassëa even while she found herself feeling sorry for her. "Amazing," she murmured softly.

"Yea!" Miyuki nodded.
Then (since technically asking if she had a good morning was enough of a prompt for any child) she went into a quick (somewhat windy) explanation of what she did this morning. This included meeting Iorlas, the book maker, testing to see which staff would be good, her getting her staff and of course seeing Alassea's spar.
"That was a really neat trick you did!" Miyuki finished in a way that only young children good which gave the illusion that children did not need to breath to tell adults how their day went.
Lin found herself watching her daughter and the two adults, and then looking at her husband.
"Did I ever ramble on like that when I was a child?"

Alassëa listened with great interest, completely and purposefully ignoring Aethos, who was trying to give her the bag of gold he'd won.
She smiled at Miyuki once the kitsune had finished with her tale.
"Thank you very much," she said warmly. "I can teach you, too, if you would like to learn."
Without warning, she reached over with her staff and rapped Aethos on the back of his knuckles, making him yelp slightly and jump back.
Earendil laughed at Lin. "Not often. Usually when you were angry. Especially when you were angry with that ninja, when you were very, very little."
He grinned at her. "Come on, we promised Iorlas that we would introduce her to the rest of our party, and there are two of them right here."

"Yes please! I'll try really hard!"
Even though Miyuki didn't fully understand what her ada meant, she did kind of understand he wanted her to try harder than she had been with the blade. Really this was sort of like the last chance for her since her parents knew very well she wasn't hopeless at the martial arts.
"Uhm....." she looked at Aethos, "I think he's trying to give you the bag he has."
"So we did," Lin nodded as she motioned for Iorlas to follow them.

"He is interrupting, is what he is doing," Alassëa replied, though she was smiling in an amused sort of fashion as she said it. She tilted her head towards Aethos. "What bag do you mean?"
"This," Aethos said, holding the bag against her hand so that she could take it. "This is your winnings from the spar. It is quite a bit, I don't know exactly how much."
Alassëa pushed the bag back towards him. "You hold it for me," she told him firmly. "I do not have a bag to carry it in. Yes?"
Aethos chuckled softly. "All right." He looked up as Lin, Earendil, Andarien and Iorlas approached them, and tilted his head curiously. "Well now, who do we have here?" he asked.
Alassëa blinked and looked slightly upwards, as if looking over their heads.

"A new friend," Lin replied in an amused manner.
Though it was hard to tell what she was amused about, there were several amusing things going on at once.
"Her name is Iorlas!" Miyuki pipped up, "She wants to meet everyone!"
In which the kitsune paused and thought for a bit.
"Where is everyone else?"

"In the inn," Aethos answered Miyuki's question. "We were on our way inside to eat when Alassëa was challenged."
Alassëa rolled her eyes. "And while we now know our new friend's name, we have continued without introducing ourselves," she pointed out to Aethos. She tilted her head in Iorlas's direction, which she could tell because of where the unknown scent was coming from. "I am Alassëa, and this is Aethos, of Amon Darthir."
Iorlas blushed. She wasn't used to people going out of their way to accommodate her. "A pleasure to meet you," she said warmly. "Where is Amon Darthir?"

"Amon Darthir is an island nation, so it's far away from the Four Lands. Uhm...." she thought about it a bit more since she was pretty much reciting part of what was on her old report.
She probably couldn't point it out on a map, at least not any map that currently existed (unless made by her ada).
"Maybe ada has a map that he made so we can show you later."
