He mentioned getting something to eat while they were in the village and that made Wenn a little sad, since she didn't really have anything to contribute. Her family hadn't had anything extra to give them after buying the school supplies and the next sale of goats wouldn't happen until late fall. "I don't rightly have much I could contribute and I would hate to be a bother on you." There was a sheepish frown on her face, a light blush coloring her cheeks. She hated feeling like an imposition on anyone, which was why her best friend usually framed his charity as extra stuff. Morwenna knew what he was doing, but she still appreciated his efforts to spare her the sorrow or embarrassment.

Morwenna winced internally when he said that taking her out to eat could be a gift for her because then she'd have to find something to gift him. If his gift was food, perhaps she could use the student kitchen and make food for him as a gift back. That way she wouldn't need to spend anything extra. She knew that there were cookbooks in the library, so she could research something to cook. Wenn really ought to ask Merc what his favorite food was. He said they would need to swing by the dorm so his could drop the bird thing off. "I'm free to go whenever you would want to go and I don't mind the extra walk. The castle always feel warm at this time of year and it's a rather pleasant walk." She smiled dreamily, trying to figure out the best way to phrase her question about food so that she could figure out what to cook for him. Maybe she could ask in the village. That might make more sense.
