"After you were through shouting at me, yes, you did."

"After you were through shouting at me, yes, you did."

"Nyl, I'm generally always in good spirits. I wasn't happy at what I had put you through, I was happy with your response.. Everything you saw in there was an act, Nyl. I wasn't yelling at you to put you down, or to make you cry or feel bad. I was trying to draw from you the essense of anger, and that's all. All of this, I put all my students through.. I mean.. I'm going to be honest.. Looking back, yes, I was harder on you.. But you've always pushed me to go that extra mile, take one more step towards my goal.. I thought.. I owed you at least that much. That push towards your goal.. I've never really screamed at a student like that.. but then.. I've never had a student that.. doesn't wear his or her emotions on their sleeve.. I'm used to using what I see and teaching them to develop that.. I've never really had to..force an emotion out of them. I'm sorry if you misunderstood my methods, Nyl. I was teaching the same lesson I always do.. just using a more detailed approach."

She sighed again.

You still failed. The first rule...I'd even have taken a halfway attempt, but...

"Why do you associate only anger with fire?"

"Why do you associate only anger with fire?"

He nodded his head to the side. "I don't. I already said, that excersize was meant to inspire the anger out of you. If I were to piss you off, make you laugh, make you cry, somehow get you to fall in love, then scare the s**t out of you in one lesson.. You'd have a nervous breakdown. I always start with the most traumatic of emotions I can think of. Normally it's fear, and it's very subtle. The "Stand on the coals" thing usually scares the crap out of my students. When I realized you didn't fear it, I moved on to the next emotion: Anger. When your wounds heal, we'll move on to the next emotion. It might be sadness, it might be fear again, or it could be one of the many other mainstream emotions. The six I named will be the one's we're focusing on. If you can show me that you can express your emotions more freely, it'll be a lot easier on both of us. I won't have to try and force it out of you, and you won't have to seethe at me for days and days for doing so. That's the point of these excersizes. You need to learn your reactions to these emotions, because they directly relate to Ho. Fear, Anger, Love, Hate, Sadness, and Happiness."

"And what will you do with a student who cannot hate?" She thought of smiling, but she didn't have the heart for it. She'd had high hopes for him, too...

"If you can't hate, then there's no reason to worry about it. If the emotion doesn't exist, then it cannot effect the Element. Besides, if I tried to force something out of you that is that deeply buried, or as you said, simply doesn't exist, it'd be an unnescissary risk. Now, I don't mean to change the subject but, do your hands hurt?"

"Yes. ...A lot. ...They're supposed to, aren't they? You were worried that I wouldn't feel it anymore if I rejoined with the Phoenix."

"Indeed, I was. I wasn't going to say anything, but it really bothered me."

Because you'd prefer I suffered more...which is why...

She shook her head. "I wouldn't interfere with whatever your plans were."

It was almost as if he had read her mind. In reality, he had read the subtle changes in her expression, which was a good sign. "Because I'd prefer that you learned Ho the right way. If I loosened it up for you, then I'd be cheating you out of the learning experience. I'd might as well not teach. I don't like seeing you in pain, Nyl. But I do want to see you prepared. So I'm going to be hard. I'm going to be tough. If you want to learn Ho, you'll stick it out." He nodded a bit.

She got up then, shaking her head. "If you want to pass, you'll recall for next time what the first rule is." She let that be as cryptic as he wanted to let it be, and walked back to her bedroom. Though she wouldn't sleep for a very long time.

He rose an eyebrow. "Pass what? Surely she's still not testing me. Not after she told me to my face, I was a Kage." He shrugged and leaned back some, thinking about what she said. "The first rule." He sighed some, closing his eyes. His mind wandered a bit to what he had told her, and her response to it. He didn't like the fact that she changed the subject on him. It did give him a few answers. He did know that she at least took what he said to heart. Otherwise she would've just ignored him and not been so hasty to change the subject.

Reeve The Vagabond
-Reeve hugs her-
If you must break that promise to stay here, I beg you, break it.

She gives a half-hearted laugh.
"Yah know, that gets kinda scary, Reeve."

Tutsumi looked towards the girl which had been at the side of him for most of the night, just now processing her question. He slowly got up and nodded, waving for her to follow him inside the dojo. This would of course include jumping off the roof and entering through the entrace where he would then point her to the stair way, a cascade of rooms lining the second and third level.

Aonice quickly followed him down the side of the building, landing firmly against the cement of the dojo and following him inside.. She looked towards him as he pointed at the stairs.. "You don't talk much, eh?" She asked curiously, turning back towards the stairs with the same stare.. "What do i do once i'm up there?"
