Surge narrowed his eyes, ingoring the boy's seemingly endless taunts. "Take the hit, Raichu! Blast it again!" he yelled. Raichu readied himself, taking the hit and launching the Thunder once more, the pouring raine making it deadly accurate. A gift? Since when would Giovanni hand one of these out to a kid? Is this boy a Rocket?

Poppite took the hit, and then it fell apart. One hand grabbed Raichu's seemingly non-existant ankle, while the other grasped around the rat's hand. Kilik blinked running a hand through his hair. It stood up momentarly before falling limp again. Poppite's body and legs floated over and stood in the middle of the battlefield, where its feet spun in circles. Its hands began to glow. "Poppite! Confusion!" The Pokemon's four pink eyes glowed brightly along with its hands.

A short time later, Keegan rested on a large rock, his eyes closed. Helios was perched up beside him, his six tails curled around him as he kept watch. "I thought for sure we'd see something other than bug Pokemon," Keegan sighed, opening his eyes and looking around. Helios nodded in agreement, yawning loudly. "And we forgot to bring lunch. How sad are we?"
The young man stood up, looking around. The forest was fairly peaceful, and quiet. He gently lifted Helios, carrying the Vulpix in his arms as they walked. Helios kept alert, his ears twitching and his eyes darting about. "I heard there are Shroomish in this forest," the boy said thoughtfully. "Maybe we'll find one."

The duo continued on for quite some time before Keegan caught sight of a small, round Pokemon nosing around a fallen tree. "Look there, Helios!" Keegan whispered, crouching down. "A Shroomish! I knew it!" The boy grinned, setting the Vulpix on the ground next to him. "Alright buddy, I want you to get in there and use Will-o-Wisp. If we burn it our chances of capture will be greater."
Helios nodded, and turned to the Shroomish, who was still unaware of the two behind it, when suddenly a blue and white blur swooshed down from the sky, scratching at the Shroomish with its claws and pecking with a sharp little beak. Stunned, Helios didn't move, only watched in awe as the Shroomish retaliated with an attempted Tackle, missing as the attacker flapped its wings and took to the sky again.
"Who does that little punk think she is?" Keegan grumbled, noting the Pokemon was female. He winced as she buffeted the Shroomish with her wings, screeching and hollering. The poor Shroomish gave a cry, jumping backwards and shaking its small body rapidly. A shimmering yellow powder puffing out and covering everything in sight.

The gutsy little Pokemon cried out, taking a full blast of the Stun Spore, and she shrieked loudly, dive-bombing the Shroomish with what looked like a Quick Attack, both of them tumbling over the log and landing in the bushes behind it. Keegan watched the Shroomish carefully, a Pokeball in hand as he jumped up. "Now's our chance!" Keegan yelled. "Pokeball go!" he shouted as he lobbed the Pokeball after the Shroomish. The sound of a Pokemon being pulled inside could be heard, as well as shuffling from the other Pokemon. Keegan heard the Pokeball make that familiar chiming sound, signaling a capture. "Alright!" he cheered, hearing the other Pokemon take off. "We did it, we caught it!" Keegan ran over and picked up the Pokeball. "That was easy, wasn't it?" he said to Helios. The Vulpix looked slightly irritated at not getting the chance to battle. He started to groom his six tails, only to be scooped up again. "Let's get out of this forest before the creepy bugs come out again," the boy said, picking up his pace, as he continued to make his way south.

Keegan could do nothing to suppress the smile on his face as he finally exited the forest, only to be greeted by a lovely looking young lady in a long, green dress.
"Good afternoon," she said politely, bowing to the boy. "May I politely ask if you'd like to engage in a Pokemon battle?"
"It's afternoon? Eh? Yeah, that sounds good," Keegan smiled, looking to the Vulpix who sat on his shoulder. "Now's your chance, Helios. Are you up for it?"
The Vulpix gave a cry and jumped to the ground, very ready to get going. The young woman looked pleased as well, as she tossed out a Pokeball with a dainty hand, revealing a Zigzagoon.
"Use Headbutt!" she called, not wasting a second.
"Quick Attack, Helios!" Keegan countered. The speedy Vulpix dashed forward, the two Pokemon striking each other about half way. Zigzagoon didn't seem to be bothered by the attack, but Helios looked staggered by the mighty blow. "Are you alright?" Keegan called. "You can do this, pal! Ember attack!"

Helios reared back, breathing a small burst of flames at the Zigzagoon, who'd been ordered to perform another Headbutt. It charged through the embers, slamming into Helios, sending the fox Pokemon skidding across the ground. He tried to stand, his four legs wobbling and giving out as the Vulpix fainted.
"Oh, Helios!" Keegan cried, running over to his fallen Pokemon and picking him up gently. "You tried your best," he said soothingly, holding up the Vulpix's Pokeball and recalling him. "That was over....fast," the boy sighed, standing up. The young woman was busy congratulating her Zigzagoon on a job well done, when the Pokemon stopped moving for a second, before bursting with a bright, white light. A few seconds later, a newly evolved Linoone stood before its trainer, scratching the ground and looking around curiously.
"My goodness!" she cried, lifting the Pokemon from the ground and swinging it around. "You did it! You finally evolved!"
Her excitement was contagious, and soon Keegan was smiling again. "Congratulations," he said, reaching behind him and pulling out his wallet. He started counting, but the woman stepped forward, placing her hand on his.
"You don't owe me a thing," she said softly. "You helped my little Linoone grow up, and that's good enough for me!"
Keegan couldn't argue about that. With his cash still safely in hand, and the woman, who's name was Cindy, registered in his PokeNav for future battles, he made his way towards Petalburg City, feeling happy despite his loss.

Mike kept his gaze out the window, suddenly finding himself engrossed with the clouds. He was so enthralled the scent of the fresh burgers were the thing to snap him out of it. "Huh?" The Lavaridge diner's specialty looked even better than the picture, smelled nice and spicey too.
"Oh boy! Something that's not Pokemon Center food!" He said that last part under his breath, Nurse Joy liked to eat here too.

Mag sat in thought. There didn't seem to be any way he could help Kasiya. The base was too protected from the inside. He would need help to get her to escape but the only friend he had was Mitsu in his PokeNav and who knows where she would be. Maybe he would just wait it out and see if anyone came for Kasiya.
I've gotta find a way to get her out.

Giovanni heard the quiet voices outside of his door. "Come in," he called out. His fingers locked together in that all too familiar pose. He smirked darkly, scooting his chair up a little bit further to his desk. Underneath the desk, he crossed one foot over the other.

"It's tough," Surge grunted through clenched teeth as the barrage of rain stopped and Raichu was hit by the confusion. The electric mouse shook itself out, not ready to give up quite yet. "Shock Wave!" Surge called. Raichu grunted itself as it released the electricity, its long tail quivering as it did so.

"Looks fabulous!" Flannery grinned, turning her plate around and examining her meal from all sides. "And it smells wonderful!" She reached over and grabbed the ketchup, as well as the salt and pepper. "I've been wanting one of these forever!" she said excitedly as she dug in.

Kilik took a step back. Poppite is all I have left... he thought, clenching his teeth. The rain stopped. He shook his head, water flying in all directions. He removed his jacket and threw it over to where Nina and Sabrina were sitting. He heard it plop on the floor in front of them. "Poppite..." he whispered. The Pokemon tightened its grip on Raichu, hoping to redirect the attack to its owner.

"Here we go," Mai said, opening the door slowly and pushing the wheel chair inside. Kasiya immediately felt the presence of him, and the colour drained from her face.
What's the problem? her subconscious asked. You know you wanted this. The girl gulped, and tried to hide her fear. Her eyes darted nervously around the room. The door and the window are fixed? How long was I out? she thought, feeling slightly woozy.

"Take good care of them," Keegan nodded, handing two of his Pokeballs to Nurse Joy. One was Helios, the second his newest capture. "And would you know if there's a bike repair shop nearby?
"Not here, nope," the perky nurse smiled. "The only one I know of is located in Mauville." She headed off, taking the two Pokemon for treatment.
"Mauvile?!" Keegan groaned, slumping down into a chair. He glanced down at the compacted bike, one end sticking out at an odd angle. "Dewford first," he sighed, putting his head in his hands and staring at the ground.
