I might be the oldest one here, I'm goin on 20 and am in college crying
For the Clean your mouthpice. old toothbrush and toothpaste, try not to get the cork wet, but if you do, don't worry, it's cork, it'll live. just don't soak it, the cork will die.
To make a clarinet sound less airy: step one, make sure you're reed is in the right place. step two, make sure your reed isn't too hard for you. step three, make sure your instruments don't have any air leaks. now, to do this last one, you might need some help from an older student or BD. It's just making sure all your pads seal. that should be it. if it still is airy after that, then either you have something wrong with the instrument, or your embouchure sucks.
I believe if you're going from (within the staff) A to C, there is a trill cheat to pull this off. but this is only to be used while trilling. find a trill chart and find this, it shouldn't be that hard to find using search engins. other than trilling, you just got to practice with it. there is no cheat for that one, the clarinet is just a pain in the but instrument.

A Dream Worth Catching Hey all! I know its off topic, but does anyone know the best way to clean a mouthpiece? I friend of mine boiled hers and the cork came off. whee mine is kinda gross. Yeah, that happens, but it's best to just get some hot water and hold it into the water for a long time, then when done, take a swab and run it several times, both ways, through the mouthpiece...make sure to dry the thing too. I just suggest swab it everytime you play, that keeps the derastic measures of having to boil water or something in order to clean it to a bare minimum. The toothbrush idea is a good too. I'm turning 20 in march and I'm going to college to become a band director...your children shall live in fear. :twistedevil:

About making your clarinet sound less "airy"; If you think you're using a lot of force to play notes to make your clarinet sound less airy, you're either
1.) Using a reed number that's higher than your ability level 2.) Your reed is too "over the top" of the tip of your clarinet
Try either lowering your reed number, or lowering your reed on your clarinet. Lowering your ligature will also work. Also, if you're sounding airy when playing softer dynamic levels, you can try placing your mouthpiece into your mouth more. I think it sounds less airy. But try not to do that on either high notes or louder dynamics, because you squeak.
