"We do. There's a woman in my department, she's fantastic. But if we have a translation for everything else, context clues, who knows?" He traced the curves of the foreign word. "This could be incredible. Maybe I should take them to HQ after all. You could still come and read them any time, I just think this'd be safest away from the public, at least for now." Maybe some day it would be someone's inspiration for a great fantasy novel, who knew? For now it had to be protected.

Luca was definitely reluctant to part from the books. He frowned, just slightly, grasping on to the book in his arms just a bit tighter. He understood the need for secrecy. He did.
"You're right," he agreed at last. "Come on, let's get our coffee."

For that quiet moment, Lori thought he might have ruined the date. As it turned out, no. Luca was logical. Plus he wouldn't be separated forever from such precious books. If the higher-ups didn't like it he was sure he could get Toby on his side. That man could talk his way out of anything.
Lori left the car and walked around it quickly to open the door for Luca, smiling coyly.

Luca climbed out of the car, giving Lori a small smile. "These are the best. Its a little family owned business, they won't mind us being noisy." He looked to his phone a moment. "Looks like I have the rest of the day off." They hadn't been that busy, anyway. "Want to show me your job?"

"Oh?" Lori wasn't exactly local so he wasn't entirely familiar with all of the small businesses out here. He watched Luca turn to his phone then and smiled.
"Well, I'm done for the day, but we could go back after coffee, if you'd like. There's only certain departments open to civilians, but mine's one of them so long as you don't try to hack into any computer files."

Hack a computer? How was that done, even? "You're safe with me," Luca assured him. "All I know how to do is open a library kiosk. And make copies." He opened the door of the cafe for Lori, smiling at him. He entered after. "Alright, what would you like."

"I thought so," Lori said with a smile. He thanked the elf for holding the door for him and looked over the menu. "How about an Americano?" That wasn't too expensive, was it? Nah.

Luca went over to the cashier and placed his order; requesting an Americano and a cappuccino. He paid and went back to Lori's side while the drinks were being made. "We could sit outside," He suggested, indicating the tables outside. "Do you want anything to eat? Its mostly desserts."

Being fae, Lori was tempted by the desserts, but no, not on someone else's dime. Also he didn't want to look like a fatty on their first date. Huh. Why did he always end up dating complete strangers?
"No, I'm fine, and sure we can sit outside. I generally prefer outside, which is fantastic because I work underground."

Their drinks were ready, and Luca went up to get them. "You go pick us a good spot," he suggested. He joined Lori after a moment; he'd paused to chat at the cashier.
"Which one do you want to start with?" he asked.

Lori nodded and went to a small table outside near the street. He smiled when Luca returned and thank him for his coffee.
"Well are they dated? I mean, as far as we can tell."

"I couldn't find a dating system," Luca admitted, taking his seat across from lori. "There's symbols on each of the pages, but I couldn't make heads or tails. And of course, I didn't dare show them to anyone else." Not even for a translation. "Not after realizing how precious they were."

"Yeah, I saw those," Lori agreed, "I have no idea what they are either. Maybe it's the same system as the words we can't read? Or a number system. Maybe they aren't words at all." He sipped his coffee, gave a pleased sigh, and smiled.
"Thanks again for this, and why don't we start, uh..." He chose the book he had been inspecting in the car. "Here. It can't hurt." A pause as he opened the volume. "So what languages do you speak?"

"Oh. Elvish, English, Latin. Some pig latin too, but I don't count that." It was useful when he wanted to entertain children.

"Yeah, I know that one too," he said with a nod, "I've got Gaelic, English, Latin, Spanish, and what the Bureau calls 'Old Fae' but that's just a fancy name for 'not Gaelic, but that other one.' I'll show it to you some time. It's pretty beautiful. If it wasn't for my heritage I'd have no idea what it was either. But this isn't it."
He was reading when he remembered Dari. "I have a coworker who can learn a new language in three or four days. It's incredible."
