For guardsmen, beyond VOID and Pig Iron, there's always Starship Troopers (check out their mobile armor) and Alpha Forge Spacers Medium Infantry.

What's the best set-up for infantry light 500 point lists? I'm going out for the Forge World Traitor kits, whore that I am, and I'm planning on playing them as Grenadiers to save cash. Should I mount them with Chimeras, go with multiple Heavy Weapons attachments to my Command Squad, or just tack on a Leman Russ and move on with life?

I basically have this worked out as the core -

HQ
Junior Officer and Staff - 40 Points

Troops
Westphalian Grenadiers w/ Plasma Rifle and Melta Gun - 120 Points
Westphalian Grenadiers w/ Plasma Rifle and Melta Gun - 120 Points

I have a lot of room left, and plenty of other special weapons to play with.

Well, you seem to have your anti-armour planned out, but what you need now is something that can take out lots of weak units at once. You may want to invest in something like mortar, heavy bolter, or autocannon squads, or perhaps a Leman Russ for some heavy duty firepower. However, from what I've seen, you'll need the mobility. So... I'd suggest to get one Chimera, and invest the rest of your points into some heavy weapons or a tank.

Dont rely on the Space Marines. Gaurdsmen have ebough options to own them, I'd say right now with what you have, of course grab a few teams of gaurdsmen, some heavy weapons, for sure a squard of Storm troopers, and of course your heroic Senior officer.

On another note, what kind of Gaurdsmen force are you thinking of making? AC? Heavy weapons?

If he's planning on going the light Infantry, I'd say get a hold of a Senential. Good weapons load outs, and works well in a light force

Though I recomend going without space marines as well. If thats what you want you can do it.

You have the option of One: making a second FOC or contingent, but that would require an HQ and two troops of marines to do.

Second: You could use Gray Knights

Third: You could dig out some chapter approved's and (assuming you like asking for permission) use some 2ist founding marines as allies. Itd be something different to give your army flavor and be much more interesting than the standard marines. The only problem is that those rules were 3rd edition, and require permission. But if thats not a problem with your usual opponents, then thats my recomendation.

I'm using Traitor Gaurdsmen, mind you. I could go Marines and convert them to look evil, but it just dosen't seem too fluffy to me.

And I would love to eventually go for massed hordes of infantry, but Forgeworld is terribly expensive. I'm looking at a Mechanized kind of army to keep costs reasonable and converting a large number of Ork Battlewagons to work as my Halftracks / Chimeras. As such, I'm thinking a Chimera with some toys and I'm enjoying the concept of a Sentinel. This list allows me, in theory, to tear apart any armor with ease and have a lovely time with enemy Infantry due to the Halftrack being a roaming dakka factory and the Grenadiers eating whomever is silly enough to wander within 12 inches.

HQ

Junior Officer and Staff armed with Autocannon- 55 Points
*Sentinel w/ Lascannon, Rosenrot AT Rocket, Smoke Launchers- 68 Points

Troops
Westphalian Grenadiers w/ Plasma Rifle and Melta Gun - 120 Points
*Officer Signs of Rank - Power Fist w/ Veteran Upgrade - 26 Points
*Sdfkz 151/1 Halftrack w/ Bolter Turret, Hull Mounted Bolter, Heavy Stubber, Smoke Launchers, and Rosenrot AT Rocket - 100 Points

Westphalian Grenadiers w/ Plasma Rifle and Melta Gun - 120 Points
*Officer Signs of Rank - Power Weapon w/ Veteran Upgrade - 11 Points

interesting approach, you might be short on missile launchers/lascannons due to grenadiers not taking any though...

@Van Evok- Well, in a 500 point game, how much armour are you planning on fighting against? And besides, by taking heavy weapons, that disallows the Grenadiers one of their greatest strength, their mobility.

@Josef Gafencu- Just to make sure, the Halftrack is just a Chimera and the Rosenrot AT Rockets are Hunter-Killer missiles, right? (Badass album/song, btw) The only problem I really forsee is that perhaps you'd be overwhelmed by a numbers heavy force. However, I forsee a lot of kills coming from your side of the table. Looks good to me.

I'm praying that a pair of Meltas, two Hunter Killer Missiles, and a single Lascannon is enough to smash open any tanks and heavy armor I face. After all, the most obsessive IG player can only squeeze in a single Leman Russ. Transports and walkers, however, I'm certain I can handle.

And yes, the Halftrack is just a Chimera (I plan on it being a mildly converted War Trukk counting as a Chimera) and the Rockets are Hunter-Killers.

And Rosenrot is a grand album.

Rose red rockets???

Anyways, traitor gaurd and traitor marines together is in fact very flufftastic. If marines turned, the gaurd working with them would most likely turn as well, if not just to be on the winning side, but also because to Imperial citizens the marines are practically divine beings. So in their minds' who knows better, some imperial governer in his/her tower, or the mighty angels of the emperor?

I plan to abuse that for LatD.

Rosenrot was alright, but Mutter is still their best as far as Im concerned, as i could listen to it the whole way through everytime, whereas with Reise, Reise and Rosenrot, i ended up having songs that I just had to skip. Like Feuer Und Wasser, the song and the lyrics just didnt do it for me. But there are others on the album i ******** love like Spring.
