Pajamas Sway I dont know. Ash is a wimp, but Red.. :O Yes, I'd rather have a pokemon that Red brought up because well, he's Red, he's the original champion. Let's take a moment to compare Ash to Red. The picture on the left is Ash, while the picture on the right is Red. Left RightAsh is simply a cheap knock-off. tl;dr, Ash < Red.

I'll find what I've been searching for... Wow that's unbelievably unfair. You grab an awesome picture of one person and a lame pic of the other. I bet your post wouldn't be nearly as convincing if you used
This picture
Honestly, what's wrong with Ash? I grew up on Pokemon movies and the TV show and it was great! It probably led to me both liking anime, and RPGs. I owe a lot to pokemon, and I still like the games. Ash is an iconic figure. Don't hate on him!
Oh I see what you're saying about knockoff. They're drawn in similar styles (duh same company), they have black hair (of course they do it's Japanese!), the both have blue jeans (who doesn't?), and they wear hats (so does every other trainer).
...Whatever that is.

Eh, the pictures were proportional for my respect for each character.
As for what's wrong with Ash, well, the list I have is long and varied. I grew up playing the Pokemon games, not watching the anime. Sure Ash is iconic, but for different reasons than Red.
And as for the knockoff thing, it's more of Ash is supposed to represent Red in the anime. Much like how Gary represents Blue.

OK well why do you respect Red? Did he ever even speak? We really don't know much about him.
And I'm assuming most of your complaints about Ash connect directly to the anime being a kid's show. I'm not saying I like Ash so much and would watch pokemon now. I'm saying, thinking about it from a much younger perspective, he's a cool character that kids can dream to be like. From an older perspective, I can respect what the creators did when making Ash, and the character himself was fun and interesting.
...Whatever that is.

Uriel Ledon I grew up on Pokemon movies and the TV show and it was great! It probably led to me both liking anime, and RPGs. I owe a lot to pokemon, and I still like the games. Ash is an iconic figure. Don't hate on him! Same with me. Pokemon Yellow was actually the first video game I ever owned, back when I was a wee noob who restarted the game if I didn't have enough money (what IS the money called in that?!), didn't know what the stats meant, and thought Tail Whip and Agility were attacks. Ash is iconic- Almost everyone I know thought that the Pokemon Trainer in Brawl was Ash. I said maaan, get your Pokemon facts straight! I THREW THEM ON THE GROUND! I AM NOT PART OF THIS SYSTEM! AND SHEIK IS FEMALE! Anyway, whenever I saw a new game, I immediately asked if there was a leveling system. I really like gaining levels!

I'm siding with Uriel on this one.
Ash was great too when the first show was on. I watched all over when I was a little kid and everyone at my school was buzzing with cards and stuff.
Red is just tough. Tough enough to stomp on Asch's pokemon.
I think there isn't much of a cheap-knockoff. Its actually just that Ash is the AMERICANIZED Red.
:O Maybe.
