To be fair, the squad is described "at ease"...
But then I don't recall in the grim darkness of the far future there is only ease...

Trooper A: 'Hey sire, isn't that a horde of vicious monster aliens racing at us to dismember our bodies and turn our eviscerated remains into more of their own?' Sgt: 'At ease trooper, there's nothing to worry about, the Emperor is with us!' Trooper B: 'Yeah man, relax...' Trooper C: 'Dudes, I just found a four leave clover! I'm so friggin' lucky!' Trooper D: 'Shut up wankers, I'm trying to listen to my iPod mk 400 here!'

King Kento Those are so damned lazy looking. The models are beautiful and have a lot of feeling to them, but damn, you think theyre on some watch post or at a training run. It just doesnt say "********, theres 'nids/orks/Traitors!" well they would come in handy as sentrys in a kill team game

What is this... Renegade... line you speak of? I'm assuming more hilariously overpriced models from Forge World, but I need more information. Release dates, if you have them.
Also, why do I see so little Traitor Gaurd? Fluff-wise, you're talking about that being one of the most common foes of the Imperium, but I've seen and heard of very little dedicated Traitor forces.

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/chaosmilup.htmConversion only though, you have to buy the Cadian Shock Troopers as well. And... I don't know. That's a pretty good question... I guess people just convert their normal guard into traitor guard if they want to play them, since they'd be almost exactly the same, barring who they worship.

Lost and the Damned is a pretty hot army nowadays.
I know I plan on a contingent of traitors for my Word Bearers.

Oh, those Renegades. I wish they would just release an entire model for them. As is, I'm paying thirty six bucks - American - to upgrade my thirty six buck box of Cadians to look slightly more evil with either torsos or arms. Or, barring that, eight bucks for the 10 leg bits, and then thirty six bucks for torsos, heads, and arms.
Either way, it comes up to about seventy two bucks for the basic infantry of a platoon or 120 points.
Compare that to seventy-two bucks getting me twice the number of models, points, and some green stuff to make crappy fume hoods and stuff. The only reason I could see the Renegade upgrade packs making sense is if you have a small LatD force with limited Traitors. Two ten man squads, with eighteen more bucks laid down for a nice Artillery Crew for your Basilisk. Of course, that forces one to come up with at least thirty Mutants to fill the two compulsory Troop slots, and I'm at a loss on how to represent Undivided Mutants without going broke.
Maybe a box of Chaos Marauders or Beatmen mixed with Cadians and a few Possessed bits.
Eh.
Most armies I see with the LatD army list these days strike me as min-maxing. Just tacking in groups of five or so Traitors so they can giggle and field the max number of Leman Russes.

But you made the point yourself - LatD is modeling intensive, and so I'll let the player field whatever they want if they devote the time and energy to a good-looking army. wink

A note, if your not willing to shell out for GW, you could look at Pig Iron productions. I have a bunch of their miniatures and i'm happy with them. Look at these:

Pig Iron has a TON of great stuff. I'm a big fan of their battlesuit/mecha things.
