"Horn Attack," the trainer said, almost no enthusiasm behind the command.

When Little Guy sped towards Heracross's head, the Heracross easily smacked the tiny bird to the side like a bat to a ball, sending Little Guy tumbling in the air to the ground. Little Guy was able to stablize himself with his wings to avoid further damage from the ground, but as he flapped he realized that his right wing was badly hurt, not being able to tuck it back in properly. Ky saw this and panicked. Ky needed his wings when using Peck; otherwise he had no way of controlling his path. As Heracross charged towards the downed Natu, a thought occured to Ky.

"Little Guy! Use that move you used on Sting!" Ky cried out. Little Guy, calling on the power he did before, enveloped himself in black shadowy flames.

"Night Shade?!" the trainer exclaimed, surprised at Little Guy's form. "Heracross, step back!" he yelled, but it was too late. Heracross had already dived down for another Horn Attack when Little Guy's Night Shade leapt from his body, the black energy surging into its head. "Heracross!" it screamed, clutching its head in pain.

Seeing the opportunity, Ky called out to Little Guy. "While it's distracted, Peck at its head!" Little Guy was way ahead of him, already having dodged the Horn Attack and was hopping up its back. The Heracross could not feel Little Guy's light feet because of its dense exoskeleton. When the Night Shade had passed, it looked around with it bug eyes, trying to spot the strange bird.

Once Little Guy got into position, he landed a Peck into the crease between its head and its wings, scoring a critical hit. Heracross screamed when he felt the beak plunge into its neck, falling backwards to Tackle Little Guy. Having been stuck there, the Heracross landed on top of Little Guy and though its weight wasn't completely crushing him, Little Guy yelped when he felt his wing get further injured as it was lodged into the Heracross's wings, pinning it into the dirt.

Hoping Little Guy was still fighting underneath the bug, Ky called out for another Night Shade. Again, Little Guy gathered the shade around him sending it straight into the wound he had made with his Peck. "Hera.... cross!" the Heracross called out, wishing for the pain to end. It had gotten back up, and flailing about it tried to fling the horrible bird from its back. Little Guy though, kept hanging on with his beak until the Heracross stopped, having given up itself. Little Guy raised his beak, ready to give the final blow before he heard the Heracross's trainer cry out.

"Stop the fight! You win! You win!" the trainer admitted helplessly. He had said nothing since Little Guy first showed his Night Shade attack, and having seen his Pokemon go through so much torment, he finally gave up. "Return... Heracross," the trainer said. Heracross looked very relieved when the red energy pulled him into his ball, and Little Guy had safely hopped off its back before it disappeared.

"Natu!" Little Guy chirped, happy for the victory. Ky stood with tears again in his eyes, one reason seeing his Little Guy hopping on one leg, with his wing and other leg injured, the other reason being he had won his first battle, and a tough one at that. "Return, Little Guy," Ky called, hoping the pain would be lessened in the Pokeball.

The trainer who had fought him, turned around without saying a word. Ky said nothing either, but said, "Hey Mister! Catch!" The trainer turned around, quickly reacting to catch the Antidote Ky had thrown.

"My name's Phil, shrimp. It was.... a good battle," Phil said, a little smile on his face. Phil then turned around, heading in the direction of Violet City.

As Ky watched Phil leave, he prepared two potions for Little Guy and Sting, each deserving them without a thought. "I can't believe it..." Ky muttered. "I won!"

Crenu sat and watched from the sidelines. As the battle came to an end and he saw Little Guy standing the victor ver Heracross he ouldn't help but feel a bit proud. "Good show Ky. That was a tough battle, how do you feel?"

"Oh!" Flannery said suddenly, pushing herself upward so fast that she forced herself face-first into the water. Coughing and sputtering, she rubbed the water from her face, looking embarrassed, yet rather relieved that no one had witnessed her blunder. "I forgot to give Mike his badge! And the other things..." she trailed off, sinking a bit so that only her eyes and top of her head were above the water line. I can just give it to him tomorrow, she thought, and closed her eyes. She stood again, and looked at her hands. "Prune fingers. Time to go," she giggled to herself as she grabbed her towel and dried herself as she walked back to the women's change room. She put on a clean change of clothes, realizing it was a little silly, since she'd be heading home to bed soon anyways. After bidding the late-shift nurse goodnight, the gym leader trudged sleepily towards home, catching sight of Portabello meditating under a nearby tree. She smiled at the mushroom Pokemon before she walked over to him, leaned down and gently kissed the top of his head. She gave a little wave before finally arriving in her humble abode. In almost a trance-like state, she changed into a nightshirt, brushed her teeth and collapsed into her bed, sound asleep before her head hit the pillow. A content smile was visible on her face as she dreamt the sweetest dreams she'd had in a while.

Someone's in a good mood. The Pokemon smiled, vines wrapping slowly around his torso. Portabello leaned forward, in a near fetal position and slowly joined Mike and Flannery in sleep.

...

Mike eventually succumb to his fatigue, and fell into a dreamless sleep. For once he had nothing to complain about, nothing was wrong. For the first time in his life, things made sense. Rising a little late, as per usual, the boy took a long shower, spending quite a bit of time making his hair look nice. "Like a screaming train, I'm just a locomotive machiiiiiine!" He sang loudly in his imperfect singing voice.

Soon he was all washed up, hair dried. The 'ding' of the dryer hearkened his standard clothes, all clean and tidy. "It's a good day." He said to know one as he exited the Pokemon Center, clothed and ready to get down and dirty fixing up the Gym.

Portabello was standing right outside the door, chirping happily. Nice going last night master. He thought spoke with a wink.

"Stop calling me master, I don't want to feel like I'm higher up in some social class than you. Sheesh, sometimes you act more human than I do." He smiled, patting the Breloom on his head, who welcomed the affection, nuzzling the side of his trainers stomach with a look of bliss on his face. Mike swore he heard him purr. "Sometimes." The boy said, snickering at his silly Pokemon.

The duo made their way to the Gym, walking through the sliding doors. "I hope I'm not too fashionably late..." He was a little worried, not wanting to mess things up this early.

Z took his pokenav off of it's belt holster and flipped it open. He looked at the time and saw that it was a little after 2:00pm. "Okay he left at midnight and drowzees it is 2:00pm now. Drowzees are not known for their speed but it is still probably far away if it just kept traveling out of vermillion. Maybe if we check the drowzees pokedex information we can get a clue as to wear it is." Z said closing the pokenav and putting it back onto holster it had on his belt. "Wait a second. Where did you get that cool pokenav?" Summer asked before Z could get his pokedex out. Z was about to tell her tht it was becasue he joined the Tekcor squad but he remembered that Dante had told him to keep it a secret. He frantically tried to think of a believeable lie. It took him a few seconds but he came up with one. "Dante gave it to me as an apology for knocking me out." Z said smiling nervously, hoping that summer and Lyn would belive him. "Cool." Summer said impressed with Dant'es kindness. Before anymore queations could be asked he took out his pokedex and quickly slid the cover the the side to reveal the screen. "Drowzee." He said to the dex and a drowzee appeare don the screen.

"Giovanni!" called out a voice. The man raised an eyebrow and turned around. A woman was running towards him. The Rocket Leader took a step back, placing a ringed hand along the busted tube that once housed a certain Scyther.

"What is it?" he demanded.

"Sir!" the woman saluted, "There has been an attack in Saffron City!" Giovanni's eyes widened and his ringed fingers grabbed the woman's shoulders rather tightly.

"Tell me!" he growled, "Who's been attacked!?" Something was coming over him. Was it pity for those attacked? Surely not. Perhaps he was jealous of the attacker? No, no. Giovanni was never jealous.

"Sir!" she gulped, "Two trainers. Nina Williams and Kilik Ranmo," Suddenly, she felt herself being pushed against the wall, yet free of Giovanni's grasp. A dark chortle was coming from his throat.

It seems young Kilik has finally gotten what's coming to him... he thought with a smirk. "Well. I applaud the man responsible. However," he placed his right hand in his pocket, "I've wanted to kill that boy myself. I'll be back." He turned on his heel, heading down the hallway of the lab. A few scientists looked from the Head to the experiments on which they were working. Since the attack on his headquarters by Mike, Nina, and Kasiya, everything had been repaired and returned to normal.

"Keep that tube untouched and busted!" he had ordered. The busted pod that kept Kilik's Scyther would remain unchanged as a reminder of his hatred towards the boy. Giovanni reached a door and he wrenched it open.

"Time to see if she's ready..." he laughed.

"Me? I feel great," Ky said sitting down, calling out both Little Guy and Sting. When Sting came out, Ky was surprised again by his growth, having not been this close to him yet. Little Guy looked like he was hurt more, so Ky began to spray the Potion on Little Guy's wing and leg, rubbing it in carefully. Little Guy winced as it was applied, but it wasn't too long before his injuries were healed. Sting was next, Ky spraying the second Potion all along his glossy shell, focusing on the dents made by the Pichu's attacks. When he had used up both potions, he recalled both of them to rest and stood up. "All right, let's get going again," Ky said with a smile.

"Drowzee eats dreams; in order to eat, it must put its prey to sleep. A nightmare or night terror will give it indigestion, and it prefers the dreams of human children to those of adults or other pokémon. Drowzee is psychic, but it has limited abilities, compared to other Pokémon; it does not display telekinesis, for example. However, its telepathy allows it to detect people who are asleep, even while asleep itself. Drowzee's memory when it comes to dreams is eidetic, and it has the ability to show anyone any dream it has eaten. If one thinks he/she had a good dream, but is unable to remember it, it was possibly eaten by a Drowzee." The dex said in a slightly robotic man's voice. "Maybe he ate a nightmare and got sick or something." Z suggested. "possible but even so it would have to have been a very bad nightmare to casue him to stay out this long. He has come home with indigestion before but he was always fine after about an hour." Rusl said rubbing his chin in thought as he remembered the time before that Drowzee had gotten sick. "Well I guess we should start searching for him. we will call if we fiind anything." Summer said smiling weakly at the heavy task before them. "See ya later. Make sure you don't forget that you prom, ised us eel rolls!" Z said smiling as the trio exited the restraunt with their pokemon.

A million thoughts were running through his mind and they were all ideas on how to react to the situation. Should he have Mai go and finish him off? Giovanni shook his head. Then again, should Mai help Kilik ward off his attacker, then she brings him to the Viridian Gym? He figured that the newly-ranked Admin-Officer would figure it out for herself. The man stood in front of her door then lifted a ringed fist and pounded the door three times.

"Mai! A mission has arisen for you!"

The leader of the bike gang continued to smirk at the girl as he reached for his hip. Two snapping sounds were made as he unhooked a pair of Pokeballs, and held them up for Kasiya to see. "This time, it's a double battle."

Kasiya took a subconscious step back; the same time Hiro took a step forward. As tired as he was, he wasn't about to let his trainer down when she needed him. Kasiya fumbled for a second Pokeball, grabbing the first one her fingers touched. A second later, Ariel was back out on the battlefield, her long, fin-like tail slashing the air. She glanced up at Hiro, the Arcanine meeting her gaze, and the two nodded, an unspoken agreement between the two to do their very best.

The biker, obviously not surprised to see the Vaporeon returned to action, continued to smirk as he released his two Pokemon. From the first Pokeball came a large, muscular, four-armed Pokemon. It wore a nasty grin as it flexed its many biceps in an attempt to intimidate the duo before it. The second Pokemon was about five feet tall, its forelegs both ending in sharp-looking claws. Its body appeared to be covered in thick, plated armor, and its two eyes stuck out of the sides of its head much like that of an insect. It had a long tail, with two dangerous-looking spikes protruding from it. Kasiya could easily identify the first Pokemon; it was quite obviously a Machamp. But she had absolutely no clue what the second Pokemon was, and not even her PokeDex had any information on it.

"What is that Pokemon?" Kasiya asked curiously, putting a finger to her chin and tilting her head to the side.

"Don't tell her, Simon!" Jimmy shouted, only to be punched in the arm by a still-sulking Noir. "OW!"

The leader, apparently named 'Simon', shook his head at the antics of his two underlings. "He's what's called an Armaldo. These Pokemon were once thought to be extinct," he chortled, rubbing his nose with his gloved hand. "But that's not the case here."

Wow, talk about rare Pokemon, Kasiya blinked, studying the Armaldo from head to toe. Her eyes sparkled a bit as she looked at it. It's so... cute! Knowing that Machamp had lethal attack power, and judging by the looks of the Armaldo, it did as well. Soon after, she told Ariel to start off with Acid Armor, in order to up her defenses. She then commanded Hiro to use a Flame Wheel on the Machamp, wondering how well his fire-power was faring. Ariel's body shimmered with a purple haze, and she took a defensive stance as the much slower Armaldo came toward her. It lashed out with its sharp claws, missing the Vaporeon by the tiniest of fragments.

On the other hand, Hiro had dashed towards his opponent, flames streaking from his body as he slammed into the Machamp, only to have his front paws grabbed by two of the Machamp's powerful arms. The other two free hands initiated dual Karate Chops to the Arcanine's chest and stomach before tossing him aside like he was nothing.

Mai had been watching the news reports in her room, and she didn't like what she saw. She knew from all the files and notes that they'd collected on Kilik and each of his friends that they always managed to come together in times of crisis. She frowned as the Steelix, dwarfing the other Pokemon by a sizeable amount tried again and again to crush the defending Pokemon with its tail. "Could it be?" she asked absently, one hand resting on her faithful Espeon's head. "Maorde...Menskr..."

She recalled hearing stories about the Slayer of humans when she was younger, before she left home to find her biological father. All this time, she'd thought him to be nothing more than a mere fable used to frighten young children into behaving themselves, for fear the Slayer would get them. But now, as she witnessed this attack, a deeper fear began to take root in her heart. "Kasiya, you keep as far away from Saffron City as humanly possible..." she murmured. "I couldn't bear to see my only sister killed..." She closed her eyes and shut off the screen, drawing her knees to her chest. Had she been watching Serenity, she would have known that Giovanni was about to knock on her door.

However, as the Rocket Boss pounded on her door, she nearly cried out in fright, jumping up and nearly tumbling over in a heap. Wearing a pair of loose-fitting cargo pants and a grey tank top, she calmed herself and went to the door, opening it at once. She knew it must be something important, for Giovanni nearly always sent a grunt along to fetch her. The fact that he was here in person was practically intimidating. "Sir?"

He blinked slightly at her shabby appearance. Although he didn't make it manditory to always be in uniform, it was a bit surprising to see her wearing a top so revealing, save for a better word. Giovanni then took a step into her room. "Mai. I'm sure you've heard of this attack on Saffron?" he turned to look at her, feeling a soft bump against his leg from her Espeon.

"And I'm sure that you know our mutual friend is there," he continued, not giving her a chance to answer. "I am, of course, speaking of Kilik." He slipped a hand into his pocket and eyed her with the same glare that he had given so many other Rockets in recent past.

"Go to Saffron and help our friend," the man moved toward her and placed a hand on her bare shoulder, "I'm sure that Kilik could use it," A smirk crept across his lips before he continued, "Once that has been settled, bring him to me."

By the time Mike arrived at the gym, and even though it wasn't terribly late, Flannery was there, along with the majority of the people who trained at her gym. The arena was already approximately half done, many of the men were laden down with shovels and rakes and were pushing and shoveling dirt into the tunnels that Nitro had made in the gym's earthy floor. Some of the less muscular members of the gym were busy wiping soot and other grime from the windows, and bright sunlight from the new day streamed through many of the now gleaming panes of glass. And there, in the center of it all was Flannery, bright and cheerful, as per usual, standing up on a platform and shouting out orders with a megaphone she held in her prominent hand. Today, she wore a pair of cut-off jean shorts, and a casual white t-shirt, the Heat Badge emblem embroidered on the chest. She also wore a pair of simple wooden sandals, and had a red and white bandanna on her head in order to keep her red hair in check. She spotted Mike and Portabello, and was about to call out to them until she realized she still held the megaphone to her mouth, and instead she waved at them, then pointed at a free shovel lying nearby. She winked at Mike, and placed her free hand on her hip, and then happily went back to her job of telling the others what to do.

Only now did she become aware of her unprofessional attire, and promptly apologized. "Rough morning, training with my new Pokemon," she explained after Giovanni had spoken. "But yes, I'm well aware of the situation in Saffron." Her expression became set in a grim line, and she looked towards the screen she'd been viewing moments ago. "I will leave at once, Sir," she saluted, and gave a sharp nod as she looked back at him. "I will do my best to continue to make you proud of my accomplishments," she said, very much like a daughter would say to her father. Already, her brilliant mind, nurtured by none other than Giovanni himself, was formulating a plan, the thoughtful gleam in her eyes a dead-giveaway.

"Excellent work," he whispered to her, walking forward a bit more. He stood next to her and leaned in to her ear. "I will expect no less from my Admin-Officer." Giovanni patted her shoulder with a ringed hand and headed out into the hallway, taking a left turn from her doorway and heading the opposite direction from where he had come from. Giovanni smiled coyly.
