The black ones are bad news. They hunt people based on emotion. Let's say you get really angry, that's like blood in the water to a black lantern.

So this machine in theory projects emotions they go after in and what explodes? traps them? Teleports them to the Negative zone?

No, nothing that crazy. I want a fairly modular design, so that you could set up several of them around the nexus as a kind of white noise generator so that the black lanterns would have difficulty tracking people based on emotion. Drown the signal with noise.
