[Sanity_is_for_the_Weak] Normally they are 6-10 drone teams. I might have an interchangeable force that will combine with firewarriors or crisis suits. My mistake of drone squad size. Wait.. I thougth they were 6-12... Hmm I DONT KNOW!

4-8 drones per squad, and vehical drones can't join and don't count as scoring, basicly they meat shields.... they draw 1 squad each to take them out..... so 5 piranha.. + 5 teams.. 5 teams mean 5 units attacking them... no one should leave gundrones untouched they can be anoying.... and a threat if underestimated 3nodding

You're leaving the opponents ability to completely ignore the gun drones in the first place out of the equation.

Yea. They could just ignore the gundrones. Afterall, this is what I call threat evaluation. I go over in my head what the opponent COULD do, and the possibilities behind each and evaluate what is the most immediate threat.

[Sanity_is_for_the_Weak] Does a disembarked gun drone squad count as its own two-drone squad or is it/does it join other gun drones? Counts as it's own squadron. However, if a squadron of Piranha drop off thier drones, they all form one squadron. Why are people continuing to say that Gun Drone Squadrons aren't scoring? Did I miss something with the new codex release? As far as I know, Gun Drone Squadrons are still scoring.

ordinary GD squadrons are scoring, unless 4 strong or below (AI network switches off!), vehicle based aren't scoring (not sure about possibly 10-strong Piranha mounted)

no.... each vehcial drone forms a squad of 2... they can cause target priority checks so they can't be ignored easily.. and you going to let 10 of them buzz around your lines and kill/pin your units while you shoot at other tau?
.. they don't form 1 big group they are all seperate... states in the rules... and yes.. vehical gundrones can't count as scoring, gundrone squads yes.. but vehical no

5+ hits, but they have twin linked, so it increases your odds a GREAT deal, especially if they are in great numbers. As for vehicle mounted drones, if there are a lot of them, you could form a single squad, could you not?

Remember, they may have BS2, but their guns are also twin-linked. With that taken into account, Drones hit 55% of the time, slightly better than a Fire Warrior's 50%. If you're going to use Mathhammer to decide the usefulness of units, you need to do ALL the math.
