We used to drive but it became tiring and getting people together was a pain.
The hotel was the best decision we have done in terms for Gencon.

Unfortunately, I can't afford to stay in a hotel, so this year, I'll just drive up Michigan to try to get a spot in the garage.

I meant Michigan Street in downtown Indy: Washington street splits into two one-way streets downtown, Washington and Michigan streets. the convention center is between those two streets.

It's pretty easy to crash in a stranger's room at a con. I see people doing it all the time and just kind of face palm when random guys ask me if they can hang in my room...lol no.
But plenty of nerd parties going on to pass out at.

King Bug I guess. I like the game aspects of it, I just don't like the improv so much. Then again I used to play with 3.5 people who like injected themselves into the game and wanted every campaign to be some wiccan ritual s**t focusing on their character or I don't even know. It was horrible. lol Man, I feel the complete opposite. I feel like because your dealing with smaller groups and more consistent interaction I feel like tabletop RP's should be super immersive and engaging. I mean, sure if you play with crazy people of course the game is gonna suck. However if you go into it, I think, with the idea in mind to use this game system, the DM, and the other players as a means to tell each other a story... Thats kind of what I want out of tabletop RPG's. I like pathfinder in 3.5 because the system can generally handle a wide range of character concepts.

Well what I mean is like, I like to be able to go, "ok, my character describes the room" or something. Occasionally I don't mind talking in character or whatever as long as the situation is funny/cool/not weird. I just don't want to have to put too much into it like I'm actually acting a part for some garage theater project. I don't want to have to go "BUT FAIR LORD ANTIOCH, I LONG FOR YOUR MAJESTIC c**k, PLEASE DRAG YOUR MIGHTY PHALLUS ACROSS MY BREAST" just because I'm playing a girl/elf. That or like... be a guy sneaking into a ritual dressed as a cultist and have to see some uggo across the table cutting herself and making up prayers to some goddess b***h. You know?

I'm planning on staying for a week in NYC with my girlfriend for NYCC, but the bill's being split so it's not going to be THAT expensive.
Probably gonna spend a lot of money on booze, because we'll be within walking distance of the convention center so I have no excuse to NOT be ******** sloppy like ******** staying on some random ******** couch. ******** that noise all the way to the bank.

KB
I mean I understand but I feel like if you get into an environment where...
Hmm whats the words I'm looking for...
I guess the word is appropriate.
I think its just important about knowing who you are playing with.
I think when you role play with a good group and everyone has that same mindset and everyone is relatively comfortable with themselves, acting in character doesn't have to come across as awkward or even forced.
I know what you are talking about though. The second out of two times I've ever actually played a tabletop RPG. I played with a group of people who unlike the first, didn't seem to be a group who was playing D&D as a board game rather than as a RPG. I did not dare act in character.
Because that s**t is weird.
However, if I got into a group...
And they were in character 90% of the time and they got really into playing that character and immersing themselves into the scene.
Where most of the time, I would feel weird going:
"Yes Lord, The rebels will be crushed under the foot of our grand empire. I shall set off at once with my band and see to it that none ever think to cross the imperial court."
In the context of a group who is down for some ROLE PLAYIN
I wouldn't feel weird at all doing that.
I think the problem is KB when people play really shitty and dumb characters and their portrayal of that character is also melodramatic.
Play a character for one, that you are comfortable portraying.
However, also, you shouldn't play you. Just like in Free-form RP, you are not your character.

That's true.
Why I oughtta play the IKRPG. I can play a Menite that takes an oath of silence and then just go around torching people with a flamethrower.
