megamanfan66 Holy moly! tmi there... that took me like 3 minutes, which it never should take to read a single post. lol. You think 3000 is a lot for an alto? Try $4000, which is my to-be yani A992 bronze. And I saw some that got up in the 6-8000 price range. Yeah, it's crazy. Baris cost even more.$8000 or so will get you a pretty crappy bari sax, the good quality ones cost A LOT. Seriously, I'm not sure how much since my parents won't even consider it, but from what my section-mate of last year said, it's hard to find yourself a good bari since they're very expensive (he is a lucky guy cause he's got a good quality alto sax as well as a tenor sax; and he wants to play bass sax). Plus, bari saxes are big and heavy, so mine's been nicknamed the monster. Though it's not as bad as a tuba, it's still no fun to lug up ten flights of stairs.

D= I'd buy a crap one so I could learn it, but...yeah, that's not gonna happen. All the instruments I play or want to play are the expensive ones.
I feel like a weakling...I can hardly move a bari sax case, let alone attempt to lug it up some stairs. xd

I was talking about altos being $8000. confused But my friend got a really nice bari for $6000, and it's lasted her 5 years and it's in perfect condition. You don't need to pay $8000 or more to get a really good bari, but the higher in price, generally, the better quality you will get in a sax. You can't judge a sax only by it's price, though.

Pro baritone saxophones cost too much. Unless your very serious about playing those instruments i'd stick to something in the middle for maybe 4-5k The Yamaha TBS-52 is a great sax and plays really well for something in the middle lines. My alto costs around 4k and the tenor i want is around 5.5k. Unless you can actually afford it i'd go for the intermediate models instead of the pro lines. I still want a bari of my very own but thaty's just not in the cards right now.

Do any other saxes have a tradition where you hold your saxophone straight forward with one arm? My section does it during marching season, usually during the cadence after football games and when we're not doing anything during practice. It makes me feel bad because I fail at it...D=

We would do our up's in two motions.

It's our little way of building up our muscles when we're bored, I guess, which is just more proof that I have no muscle. xd

The weirdest thing I've seen is someone playing tenor between the legs... which isn't easy (and then the grade twelve bari player decided to try doing that with his bari and it was quite amusing). And yeah, I lugged the thing up ten flights of stairs in one day cause the elevator was crammed with FLUTES and ALTOS who were too lazy to take the stairs and didn't care that us BARIS and TUBAS might want to take the elevator. The only saving grace was the nice older man who was a volunteer at that festival who took one look at my sax case and said, "Take the elevator." I sort of looked at him with this look of joyous shock on my face because bari cases are heavy if you have to lug them around for a long time, and I oddly have to do that a lot with the concerts and festivals my school puts on. Lugging that case (which is really heavy) through several buildings downtown to get to the concert hall which was up several flights of stairs down a lot of hallways... it was fifteen or twenty minutes of utter torture. My hands were pretty beaten up after that... The altos from other schools at this festival were morons, cause they crammed onto the elevator with me and left our poor tuba player out in the cold despite me telling them to get the ******** out so he could get in.
