Kekkon shivered slightly in the snow as he continued his unending search for a substantial meal. He was thinner now than when he had joined the tribe even, so he didn't have much to keep him warm. Nonetheless, he pressed onward without slowing down any, still searching, still hunting. He could not return back to the tribe without having found any food again.
Soon, Kekkon found himself before a large den. Though the scent was faint, it was very distinct in his mind. Bear. There was a bear hibernating in this den. If he could take it down, that would be enough meat t feed the whole tribe! What am I thinking? he thought to himself reproachfully. A bear takes the strength of several hunters to take down even if it's weakened. How can I possibly take down one on my own in my current condition? Unless it's a young one... He held his place in front of the underground den, staring into its depths and contemplating his next move.
~~~~~~~
A giant pair of wings beat harshly against the air as Akakumo landed beside Konton. He gently nudged the female with his nose before letting out a sigh. He had heard the two screams earlier but had been too far away to get to the sources right away. He had spotted the other fox from the air, and, seeing her in good company decided to come check on the acting elder. "Koana, help me get her onto my back so we can take her back to the cave," the guardian instructed, kneeling down in the snow right next to Konton.
(It was Koana there with her, right?)
< *Squeals and Tacklehuggleglomps Elf* And Koana's with Seika, Konton's alone x3 >
Konton's eyes rolled over to view the Guardian beside her. She couldn't find words to say to him. The ends of her lips twisted up, forming a faint smile. With a sigh she weakly sat on her haunches and looked at Akakumo for a long period of time.
Her nose then picked up the scent of Kekkon. Her expression grew concerned and she gracefully got up and padded across the snow in his direction. She saw him outside a den and her nose picked up another scent lingering in the air. Bear . . . Was her thought and she bit her lip. It was tempting to go in there and kill it, but they were both thin and weak. Maybe with Akakumo's help, they could . . . Maybe . . .
(Ok, forget the comment to Koana then, lol. XD)
Akakumo was about to try to get Konton onto his back when the black and white fox stood up herself and walked off into the wood. He just shook his head and followed. Soon the two came upon Kekkon and what looked to be a bear den. The guardian could read what Kekkon was thinking just by his intense gaze. "Need some help there?" he asked with a smirk. "You're a good hunter and all, but I wouldn't advise taking that on all by yourself."
Kekkon had been so absorbed in his own thoughts that he had been taken completely by surprise when he heard the dragon's voice. He was even more surprised when he turned around and saw Konton there with him. Wow, I must be in a bad way to have not noticed them walking up on me, he thought to himself, shaking his head to clear his thoughts. "Hai, arigato," he replied with an appreciative smile.
Konton gazed into the den and then took a careful step inside. She could her the Plip plop of a leak in the roof of it's den. It might help cover any noises they might make. Seika and Danag would have been very helpful here . . . With a silent sigh, she continued her way in, hoping they'd follow.
Alarmed, Kekkon darted in past Konton and blocked her path into the den. "Konton!" he hissed. "Pardon my rudeness, but you are in the worst condition of all the tribe at the moment! Don't try to get yourself killed by helping us with the bear. Go back outside and we'll drag it out once it's dead."
"Bloody here has a point," Akakumo said quietly as he entered behind them. "Besides, he has his pride as a hunter on the line here as well."
"That is not the reason for my concern," Kekkon replied venomously, his eyes narrowed. To even accuse him of such shallowness when inexcusable.
"Excuse me, that's not how I meant it," Akakumo replied, realizing how it sounded after he said it. "Anyway, Konton, please let us take care of it. If something should happen to you, then the tribe as we know it would only fall into more turmoil."
Konton did feel weary and light-headed with the lack of food. "But . . . but I can't let anything happen to you guys . . ." She murmured, staggering with the effort of standing upright.
"Risk of injury would only be increased if we had to worry about guarding you and hunting at the same time," Akakumo pointed out, gently nudging Konton towards the outside. "Come, let us go."
While Akakumo led Konton out, Kekkon went ahead and entered further into the den. He didn't have that far to go, as the den wasn't that deep. And there before him lay, the bear, looking straight at him. Apparently it had been listening in on their conversation. Before it could get a jump on Kekkon, the hunter leapt upon the great beast's back and sank his fangs into the back of its neck. The bear let out a loud roar and proceeded to try to get Kekkon off of his back.
Konton stubbornly whined like a kit, but let herself be pushed outside. They were probably right. When she was outside, she laid her head on her black paws. She sighed and closed her eyes, which snapped open after she head the bear roar. She trembled with curiosity. What was going on?
Kekkon had to dig his claws into the bear's back to keep from being thrown off; his strength not being what it was before, this proved in of itself to be a very difficult task. In an attempt to get the fox off of its back, the bear reached up with his paw and clawed Kekkon down the side.
"You couldn't even wait one minute?" Akakumo scolded, running back into the den. The bear was about roughly his size, so this wouldn't be too difficult. He lowered his head, and, careful not to hit Kekkon, rammed his horns through the creature. The bear let out a roar of pain that echoed through the den. And try as he might, his claws could barely scratch through the tough hide of the guardian.
Konton bit her lip with worry. Without thinking about, she sprang up and darted into the cave. She saw the bear and leaped onto it's back, her jaws sinking into its shoulder. It roared and looked into her eyes. She glared at it with wide menacing eyes. There was a ***loud whistling sound in the Bear's head and it roared once again before falling backward. Konton's back paws landed on the ground and she sprang backward, messing up her balance with fatigue. Her left back paw failed and she yelped as she fell down. The bear swiped her, hitting her in the ribs and knocking her into the cave wall before the bear hit the ground unconscious. She yelped again as she hit the cave wall, sinking to the floor. She panted and looked back at the bear. That technique sucked her remaining strength out of her, not to mention the toll she took from the bear's attack, but at least they could kill it without trouble now. "Akakumo . . ." She began in a weak voice. "Kill it . . ."
When the bear fell backward from Konton's attack he had smashed Kekkon into the ground under him. "Konton!" he exclaimed when he heard her yelp a few times. He was now trying to free himself from the wait of the unconscious animal.
Akakumo nodded at Konton's command. He first snapped the large beast's neck before dragging it off of Kekkon. The two foxes looked pretty beat up now. "Why did you come back in here?" he demanded, almost in a scolding manner. "You needlessly injured yourself when we were in the process of killing it ourselves. Not to mention your hunter."
"I'm fine," Kekkon lied, using his remaining strength to stand up and prove his point. It didn't last very long though and he had to lean against the den wall for support. "Well, we don't necessarily need to drag the bear out to the tribe. Could you just tell the tribe of the kill so they can come here and eat?" Under normal circumstances Kekkon would never make such a suggestion, but it seemed too much work to attempt to drag a bear out when neither he nor Konton could really move.
Akakumo nodded and turned to head out. "Go ahead and eat, Konton. You need your strength." Once outside of the den, Akakumo flew up into the air above it and let out the loudest roar he could muster to alert the tribe of the kill. It rang throughout the tribe lands. Then the dragon flew around in a circle over the spot so that they would know where to find it.
Konton looked at them with wide eyes. "But I- And you- And Kekkon- And it- And I heard- But it- And I- yelp . . ." Her idiotic stammer was all she could manage. She trembled under Akakumo's scolding and then yelped at the roar. After she figured out it was for the tribe, she let out a relieved sigh. She weakly stood up and limped over to the bear's side. She sat down and then looked up at Akakumo and Kekkon. "No. You guys need it." She stated and then stepped back from it.
(Akakumo's outside flying above the den, lol. And he' fine.)
Kekkon shook his head. "Relax, Konton, there's plenty of meat here for everyone. Besides, it's only right that the acting elder takes the first bite." The male sat down and began licking the side where the bear had clawed him earlier. It was still bleeding, but not as badly as at the start. Since his fur was the color of blood anyway, it also didn't stand out, which he was thankful for. The only clue of it really was the scent, but that could easily be mistaken for the bear's blood. "Are you injured badly?" He asked after a moment's silence, looking back at the white and black female. "This thing hit you pretty hard earlier. And do eat, please. You look like a skeleton."
Konton looked down at her side. "I don't know why, but I can't determine what's wrong with me." She growled. "And I'm supposed to be a Shaman . . ." She grumbled.
She sighed a few moments later and a little smile slipped on her face. They thought of her as someone close to the being of an Elder?! Awww man . . . Now she'd feel really guilty if anything happened to them. "Kekkon, you probably need it more than I do. Sangre, Akuma, the kids, Seika, Koana, everyone needs it more than I do. Please eat."
