and with that he left. as swift as the wind he jumped into the forest as out of sight.

i watched him leave. he was pretty fast. i glanced toward togan. "you ok?" he was silent the entire time. kinda worried me a little.

Nebride threw back her head in laughter. "Us? Cowards? We are not the ones hiding behind someone else's skirts! And haven't we shadow elves always been reclusive? So don't you dare say we hide--that we cower. At least we think for ouselves and do as we want. We do not judge others by their blood, by their skin color or by the way they act. Which is more than I can say for you."

pride was a hard thing to get over
"im sorry. i should have trusted you"
he felt terrible. not only did these people protect him. they were prepared to give there lives for him.
he was so frightened through the whole ordeal he had no idea what to do

he could tell Nebride was upset. she was still shouting at the hunters.
for a moment he thought it seemed a little crazy but then he relised they were probably still listening.
"Gren. i-i i want u to know that.....that i consider you as a friend. thank you for what you did"

Nebride turned to Togan. "Do not worry about it boy. I am used to not being trusted. It's just part of life." She twirled the scroll in her hand. "Let's keep this. We don't want to make the witch hunter any more angrier than we already have." Nebrided tucked the scroll into her coat. "Although it will be a little harder for them to keep an eye on us. This coat has protection charms around it."
Nebride flexed her fingers. "This is going to be interesting--keeping this away from the villagers. Togan--swear to me that you will keep this from everyone else--including the other mercs. I don't need anyone going off the deep end. The less people who know about this---the better."

i turned toward nebride. "did your brother betray your people?" i asked with concern. this was obviously not something to be ignored. although the thought of 'brother' got me thinking of my own. it was a painful matter and i couldn't control the look of hurt washing over my face.

Nebride stared off towards the woods. Finally after a moment of hesitation she answered. "There are only two ways to be cast out from our people. You either do something grievous against our god, or you kill another. My brother, Eleclyo---he killed someone and therefor was cast out."
Nebride rubbed her hands over her face. "Normally we would have left him to himself, but seeing as he has magic gifts like my own---I cannot just let him roam. Besides--this is more than him just killing someone else. Eleclyo killed the one I was going to marry."

he was watching her listening to her via the scroll he had given her.
so she too had lost a loved one.

"i-i'm sorry" i couldn't think of anything else to say. i didn't even know if i should be appologizing. it felt so weird to talk to people like this. i hadn't had much practice. the idea of family was a painfull matter for me to get into

Nebride shook her head. "It is over and done with. Eleclyo chose to do what he did. The only reason I can think of is because he did not want to lose me. Ever since we were kids---I've always taken care of him. True, he was the eldest, but I was the strongest. Eleclyo told me that he could not stand the thought of me dividing my attention between him and someone else. He said he might do something drastic. I did not believe him, so I told him to get used to the idea."

noone knew what to say.
he wanted to comfort her but he didnt really know how.
he had never been in her situation before so he didnt even know what it would be like to lose someone

i couldn't think of anything to say. getting into matter like this was painful. i walked over to a nearby boulder and sat down, resting my head in my hands and stared at the ground. for some reason my eyes got a little watery. maybe it was the thoughts of my past, or the sympethy for nebride. i don't know. but it was a little embarassing.
