Of the Nord and the Duergar, Yolanda would not have to look farther than a few tables in to the drunken dark dwarf and man of the north.

Currently engaged in a high-tensity drinking match, they each sat with about six mugs in front of each of them, each working on draining their seventh. Meanwhile, Deghar was thinking that Valgard was, somehow, cheating.

"Ye be chea'in', ye bloody Northman, I know ye be!" The drunken dark dwarf said, slurring a few things together.

"There's no way I'm cheating, Deghar. I'm an honest man." Valgard thumped his hand against his chest. "You're the one cheating, you dirty little dark dwarf." Valgard laughed.

"Me? Chea'in'? I think not, ye blubberin' Northman! Yer the chea'er, Valgard!" The dark dwarf laughed. All of their insults were in good fun; they'd been through many brawls that afterwards they convinced each other that they were staged beforehand but really not. It was all in good fun, after all.

Of course, this was all drawing attention, both positive and negative. Deghar eyed a rather homely, unattractive, and actually extremely repulsive woman who was watching them. "Aye, ye bonny lass." He said, the alcohol apparently blurring his vision to the point where monstrosity was beauty. "Ye can watch me beat this chea'in' Northman here, if ye like!" He said, crowing. "A' course ye have to join me after I win fer a bit o' fun!" He laughed harder, Valgard as well. "Deghar, you couldn't attract an Umber Hulk with your looks!" Both laughed heartily, drinking from their mugs.

"See!" Deghar pointed and said loudly, throwing down his mug quickly, making Valgard spit a bit of his ale out onto Deghar's face, who was unfazed. "Ye just chea'ed! I swear it!"

"Foolish dwarf, the alcohol's blurred your black little eyes!" Valgard returned.

"Yer eyes ain't doin' so swell themselves! Me eyes 're red!"

They both laughed heartily, drinking once again.

Yolanda sighed. But of course...drunk. What more could she expect from those two? Shaking her head, she made her way over to their table and placed a hand on Valgard's shoulder, since he seemed a bit more sober, though not by much.

"Valgard, I must speak with you," she said urgently, but loudly, since the noise of the tavern seemed to be on the rise again, "It's about Ravenar." Eyeing the 'less than attractive' woman who had seemed to set her eyes on Deghar, she chuckled. He might wake up with an unpleasant suprise tomorrow. Perhaps she could save him some face.

"Deghar, as well," she added, trying to deter the various male eyes trained to her every move. Ugh...some of them were disgusting, even being mages. It took more than a bit of willpower not to utter a particularly nasty curse on their houses.

"Time is short, we must work quickly," she told him, urgency heightening the volume of her voice. Quickly...

Bowing to the mage, Lashantha motioned her fingers as if tipping an imaginary hat and went to grab her dagger, which she had used on the couch earlier to cut chunks from the loaf of bread before finally just givving up on manners and devouring it.

Slipping Viper Fang into it's rightful sheath, the drow slipped out of the house after Yolanda, pulling the cowel of her hood up to hide her face. Drow would not be a welcome sight in this district tonight.

Keeping her strides even, and her posture casual, she walked past a few mages who looked curiously at her before looking away. Breathing a sigh of relief each time, the former Do'Saghress member finally found what she was looking for, the guard house. Slipping into a dark alley a little ways from it, the drow pulled her hood down and began muttering a soft chant. Viper Fang was released from it's sheath as Lasha pressed the ruby pommel to her cheeks, nose, mouth, and finally her eyes. The ruby glowed dimly as she put the dagger away and pressed her palms to cover her face.

Ending the chant, she fell to her knees, groaning as it felt like her skin was on fire. This went on for a few minutes, the darkness revealing nothing as Lashantha tried to keep her voice down. When it was done, the drow was left panting while she stood up. Her skin, no longer it's ebony hue, had become a dark tan color, her black eyes a vivid blue as she stepped out of the shadows. Her long black hair was still black, but that hardly mattered as she approached the guard house.

The guards had been chatting idly untill she approached. The talk ceased immediately upon sighting what appeared to be a lovely moon elf.

"Who are you? And what do you want?" Called on of the men roughly.

"I was sent by the guards from the central barracks. To check on the drow's items to see what protections might be on them. And be on your guard, His 'friends' might try and relieve you of them if your not careful."

When they nodded, Lashantha almost let out the breath she had been holding all at once. She had arrived at the right place. The main barracks were only a few blocks away, and she had taken the long route to avoid it. They wouldn't keep Ravenar's items so far away, not if the mages wanted to call first dibs on it when Ravenar died..

Shuddering slightly at the thought, Lashantha was led into the guardhouse and brought to the room that was full of armor and weapons. Ravenar's things were in a corner. Crouching and pretending to examine them, the fake moon elf waved her hand over it. These men had not a spark of magic in them, and wouldn't have even noticed that what Lasha did was nothing at all.

Standing up with a satisfied smile on her face, she nodded to the guards and left, her cloak swishing behind her as she went off, still in her disguise. Lucky too, for just as she got out of sight of the guards, she felt the pain returning and dashed into an empty alley. Letting the process finish, Lasha stood up again, ebon skin once more covering her body.

"Sharess, that was close.." She murmured to herself then set off to find Yolanda's house again.

Deghar broke his gaze from the woman and turned to Yolanda. "What's that? Ravens ye said?" He asked, apparently the alcohol tampering with his hearing as well.

"No, ye fool, drunken dwarf... She said Ravenar, something about Ravenar." Valgard corrected him, obviously less drunk than Deghar, due to the fact that Deghar had started drinking before the contest even began.

"Aye? What about Ravenar? 'E's a Drow, 'e's a mage, and 'e's a damn good one, too!" Deghar said with a laugh. Apparently he didn't recognize Yolanda. "But why ye interested in him when ye could spend the night with me?" He asked her with a drunken grin and wink.

Valgard looked at Yolanda. Obviously his vision was not at its best either; he seemed to be looking at her like an old stranger. "Do I know you?" He asked her. "You look familiar... I might've seen you down by the shop a few times..." He stroked his short, brown beard.

Yolanda shot Deghar a glare of daggers before turning her attention back to Valgard. Well, at least he was willing to listen.

"My identity does not matter. Only know that I am an ally," she paused and looked around, "Is there somewhere more...private in which we could speak?"

If they were to speak so openly about Ravenar here, their plan would surely be discovered. There were many ears here and many who would make the information that they 'overheard' into some profit. Even the walls had ears...

"Time is of the essence..." she murmured to herself as the second ticked away towards dawn. They would only have a few hours of time to plan it our perfectly. Any mistake and Ravenar could die. Even one mistake was more than they could afford. Much more.

"Ravenar's life is in danger, quickly!" she added, which was as much as she dared to say.

Those last few words were enough to break Valgard, at least, from his drunken state and have him enter a state of pure, sober focus.

He stood upright almost immediately. "Yolanda. I recognize you now. Deghar, you drunk." He turned to the dwarf, grabbing him by the shoulder. "Ach!" He slurred in protest, though the Nord hoisted him up quite quickly. "Ravenar is in danger!" He hissed to the dwarf's face. "Ach! Alright, lemme go!" The dwarf said, obviously sobered up as well by the news.

"And yes, I suppose we could head back to Deghar's shop to talk. It isn't far from here and it is closed for the night." He said, gesturing towards the door. "I suppose you know where it is..."

"Just look for the sign with the fiery axe above it." Deghar offered with a grin.

Meanwhile, in the Mage District Guard tower, owned by Arminas and his followers... The half-dragon gazed into a crystal ball, watching and listening to the Nord, Dark Dwarf and woman's discussion, knowing that they were making plans to save Ravenar.

Well, that wouldn't happen. The Mage District Guard was prepared... "I'll make my move the day after they leave. Even if they escape with Ravenar alive, they won't have the guts to try to stop me after they leave..."

His fist closed, still clad in the glove of the Mage District Guard uniform, though he had long since devoid himself of the hood. "This District will be mine for the taking with those two meddlesome mages gone, and with the dragon and the other drow out of the way, it will only be easier for me." He grinned his toothy grin and ran a hand through his charcoal colored hair.

"With everyone distracted by the Drow's hanging, I'll have no problem poisoning the lord of the Mage District..."

"The day after tomorrow, my Guard will move in for the Mage District leader, and take his home and declare it mine. None shall rise to stop me..."

"The day after that, I'll move for the Governer's home. This town will be mine." He sneered.

"And then, I shall start with the surrounding towns. I'll make this world fit again for dragons and halfbloods..." He felt his somewhat pointed ear. "And... elves..." He said the word as if it were encased in caustic venom. "After all, hypocrisy is the first step to downfall..." He reminded himself.

He began to laugh as he thought his plans over. It was perfect! He would rid this world of all impure, imperfect races, and then there would be naught but the dragons, halfdragons, and elves...

But eventually, he would make sure that the elves suffered a 'fatal accident.'

He also decided that the Drow would probably be his first targets. After all, if he could find all the Underdark entrances, he could simply block them off. They would die from no air in a matter of months, perhaps a year. A nice slow, painful death...

The Lord of Torture rose from his chair and took a final glance at the crystal ball. He didn't need to know their plans; his guard would be prepared for tomorrow. He would make sure of it. After the poisoning was done, he wouldn't care if they escaped or not...

((PLOT TWIST!!!!! *GASPAGE* Val...you evil fiend XD))

"Yes, let's make haste, then," Yolanda nodded and headed back out into the cold nights air, leaving the tavern behind. For a moment...just a moment...she thought that she felt some kind of strange magickal presense. Perhaps... No, magickal items were everywhere in the Mages District. It was probably just some drunkard wanting to show off his power...

Walking down the silent streets with her staff as a light to guide her footsteps, she felt that perhaps they could do this after all. With luck on their side, they could run from this place without much danger. She could 'pack up' her home in mere moments which wasn't a problem. She only hoped that Ravenar did not leave anything too valuable in his home, since he wouldn't have time to retrieve his items.

Stopping in front of Deghar's shop, she let the light from her staff go out, leaving them in the dark. They would need to talk...

(That's what I'm hoping for. Only Deghar and Valgard are going to stay behind/get separated, and so forth... Postage soon...)

Deghar and Valgard followed silently, for the most part, save for the dwarf's occasional grumbling and a belch or two. When they stopped in front of Deghar's shop, the dwarf spoke up first. "So what do ye need, lass? Ye said Ravenar's in trouble, and anyone with somethin' against me pal Ravenar's got somethin' against me. Me axe'll be itchin' to meet with their skull, tha's fer sure..." The dwarf muttered.

Valgard crossed his arms. "Indeed, what is this about?" He said, and then looked to the door. A paper had been nailed to the door... a notice? He walked over and pulled the paper from the door and looked at it. "By the gods..." Valgard said breathlessly.

"What be this?" Deghar asked, reaching up and snatching the paper from the Nord. "By all that's holy!" He shouted. "Ravenar, a murderer?!" He shreiked. "There's got'a be somethin' messed up, I mean, Ravenar wouldn't hurt a fly! Would he?" He asked the other two desperately. "Would he?!" He insisted.

"He wouldn't hurt anyone who didn't want to hurt him... or kill him." Valgard affirmed. "If it was in self-defense, he shouldn't be faced with execution..." The Nord mused. "By Tyr's hand, this travesty of justice must be dealt with..." His blue eyes shone angrily.

"That settles it." Deghar said with a nod. "I'm bustin' Ravenar out!" He hobbled into his shop and returned moments later with his axe, which was glowing a rather questionable light red color, although calling it pink would most likely get your head removed. Ravenar had enchanted it a good time ago, back when they first met, and as a joke had made this part of the spell, that it would glow pink around anything not Duergar or Drow, and told the dark dwarf that it was part of the enchantment that he couldn't change (though he could quite easily). So Deghar, not knowing relatively anything about magic (he only sells the things that sparkle and shine with magic, he doesn't really know what they do unless Ravenar tells him) assumed that Ravenar was telling the truth and decided to call the color 'red,' and whenever it was referred to as 'pink,' he quickly spouted off insults and protests and threats, most of which nearly ended in violence.

"Hold, friend Deghar." Valgard said, putting a hand on the huffing dwarf's shoulder. "We needn't charge in and reveal our plans this early." He reminded him. "I'm sure Yolanda here," He gestured to her. "Has a plan to liberate Ravenar, or else she wouldn't be here right now..." He said with a chuckle. "I suppose you've a plan, Yolanda?" Valgard asked her, making a mental note to get his sword and shield from his shop...

Yolanda nodded.

"Ravenar explained to me that the woman who owned the exotic meats show just began to die as soon as he tried to save one of our friends from her. Perhaps something to do with her weak heart." Yolanda held up a hand to stop Deghar.

"No, now is not the time. Breaking out of that prison would be impossible and a futile attempt. My plan is to rescue him tomorrow, before the execution," she looked around. "Could we go inside to speak? I fear for privacy."

"However, I do have a plan that you both need to play a part in. The most important part is for Ravenar, Imo and Lasha to escape. My own life is of little consequence."

Glancing down the street again, she surpressed a sigh.

"Quickly, we do not have much time."
PostPosted: Sun Apr 17, 2005 6:21 am

Deghar nodded, pushing the door open. "Let's go in, then." He allowed Yolanda to go in first, then Valgard and then, with a cautious glance around the street, he slinked inside himself, shutting the door gently behind them.

The magical lights flared up when Deghar snapped his stubby fingers, illuminating the shop. "Now, what about this plan o' yers." He said.

"I think..." Valgard said. "That if anyone, we should be the ones whose lives are on the line." He crossed his arms. "I understand your feelings towards Ravenar; we're all friends to him here. But, nevertheless..." He smirked. "I think it would be poetic justice for two warriors like Deghar and myself to stand up against these mages and win..."

"Aye, I'd think so too, Nord, if ye didn't realize somethin'. We're not gods, ye know." Deghar countered. "We ain't gonna come in and be invicible to e'ery last spell those Mage District guards throw at us." He explained.

Valgard shrugged. "Point well taken, dwarf." His eyes looked up slightly, as if thinking, and then leveled again. "Ravenar is to be hanged, correct?" He asked.

"Aye, aye." Deghar said, his eyes narrowing slightly.

"Then I've a plan." He said with a smile. "You see, my craftmanship will come into play here. I'll get an extra sword from my shop. And then I'll throw it towards the rope that will hang Ravenar the moment the trapdoor falls. It'll cut the rope, you, Deghar, can cause a distraction with me while the others get Ravenar out of there, possibly by some magical means, who knows." Valgard shrugged.

"Sounds good to me." Deghar said. "Unless the mage 'ere's got a better plan, I'm willin' to listen."

( xd I love making plans to rescue my own characters...)

The mage entered the small shop and sat down at the table. Listening to their plans, Yolanda nodded.

"My idea was similar. As soon as the rope is cut, I'll go and free Ravenar, since he'll be bound by magickal means, no doubt. Lasha will be waiting at the tower. He'll have to take a quick trip there to gather his things, his staff and dagger," Yolanda paused, "I'll need a few seconds just to free him and it won't be easy. Give me as much time as you can."

Her mind was filled with other things, however. The last time she saw Ravenar, he was bound with magickal chains. She didn't know a spell strong enough to stop it... The mage would just have to find the key.

"As soon as he's freed, we're leaving the Mages District. We're going to head south, towards the coast where I have friends who can help us. You should come as well. The guards won't be so forgiving if you played a part in Ravenar's rescue." Yolanda sighed inwardly. How were they going to do this? How?
PostPosted: Sun Apr 17, 2005 9:18 am

Valgard crossed his arms. "Better make sure you find the bracer that I gave him, too. That thing's valuable. Put my sweat and blood and tears into that." Valgard said with a bit of a huff.

Deghar laughed. "I'm sure she'll get all his things, ye know." He told the Nord.

"Well, I need to go by my shop, pick up my sword and shield, along with an extra one to throw. Deghar, you've your axe, but you shouldn't really need to do much. Remember, though. The Mage District guards really aren't at fault here..." He scratched his thin beard. "I'm almost sure Arminas has something to do with this though. The half-dragon-half-elf always had a problem with Drow..." He said, then shrugged. "Ah well."

"If I find Arminas, I'll be sure to introduce 'is skull to me axe!" The Duergar said gleefully.

"And I'm sure that I'd do the same, only with my sword..." The Nord said with a nod.

"Then ... I suppose we wait 'till mornin'?" The dwarf asked them both.

"Yes, morning," Yolanda said and rose from her seat. With her staff in hand, she was about to leave when she paused at the door.

"If anything goes wrong...run. Don't risk your lives. I can do that, myself," the words were an ominous warning. If they were to try and fail, there would be much trouble to follow. Before another word passed through her lips, she pushed open the door and began walking back to her home. There was still much to do tonight.

"I wonder where my journey will take me next?" she thought, the bottom fo her staff clicking as she made her way down the street. This was the one place that she had stayed the longest. Perhaps it was time to leave. She couldn't stay here her entire life. In a few years, she may return to her family. Maybe she would even meet one of her younger siblings on the road as well. Who was to know?

Only time would tell.
