The mention of her daughter snaps Caroline out of the fog that had seemed to surround her head. "What?" she asks. "My daughter is my greatest joy, but why should that matter to ye?" she inquires bluntly. Caroline never had been much for subtlety.

Rojiza cautiously bites into the piece of golden fruit. It's wonderful--tart and sweet at the same time. She continues to eat, careful not to let any juice drip on herself. It's good, she decides, but she prefers her fruit raw and unadulterated.

The priestess gave a smile to the little girl and her careful bites of the braised fruit. But she did not smile at Caroline- instead, she kept her mouth shut and loosened her grip, somewhat, on The Candidate.

As Irina was swept along with the crowd of women, she kept Kalpana close in her arms, making sure the badger couldn't get away. She grabbed a few sweets from trays for herself and Kal, popping them in her mouth, and then in Kal's, savoring the flavor of the food.

It was then that she felt someone at her arm...

It was a woman, dressed in white, with markings on her face.

"Hello," Irina greeted the woman simply before giving her a broad smile. "A beautiful day for a parade, eh?"

The woman beamed back at her. "It is! It is a glorious day for the celebrations. ...Would you like some sweet juice for you and your... erm... pet?" The priestess had a series of white swirls and circles that created a mask about her eyes and then curled down the left side of her face. A single vine-like tendril of white eked down onto the line of her jaw on that side- and it was strangely appealing and beautiful all at once.

Kala was getting irritated, she wanted to run but Heather kept holding her back. As Lor had problems of her own Heather smiled and continued onwards untill she lost grip of Kala and watched the leopard head forward looking for the cheetah.

"Kala!" She sighed spotting someone with a diamond flute. She watched her for a minute and then couldn't resist.

"Excuse me, your flute there is beautiful!" She smiled looking down at it. Heather loved her own flue but she had never seen a diamond one.

The woman turned. She had grey eyes framed with whitish blonde lashes, and around her neck, a very small vial- no bigger than a child's thimble- that was toppered with a small diamond, but had nothing inside. She smiled at the compliment, and half-curtsied, but the look on her face was still... sad, in a way.

"Thank you. The only other diamond flute I know of was my aunt's- but she disappeared long ago. The other diamond instruments... they belong to my sisters." She said the last word with mounting sorrow- and even more upsetting, it seemed that the word was also laced in acceptance. She had lost something, and somehow managed to accept that it would never return. "My name is Susa. And you are?"

Caroline feels the woman's grip on her loosen. She doesn't bolt yet, though her better senses tell her to. Better not to draw attention to herself. She keeps a close eye on Rojiza, nibbling at a piece of sweet fruit. She would not abide her daughter being taken from her, or anything else happening to her. Mulden leaps to mind, and Caroline quells this thought forcefully.

Marissa started. "The Anklets? Why, yes, I have indeed heard of those. I've read the history books myself...and I intend to collect the set. If that were ever possible." She paused. "To the east, you say? Do you, by any chance, know where?" She marveled at the coincidence that had befallen her.

The Filor laughed, though it was a thin sound, at best. "Oh, who knows where things go in trade anymore. It's such a small world. I think... the anklets went to a witch. And I don't know about the earrings. I've not heard about them in forever. They may have been buried with her." She laughed again, as if the thought of a buried queen was amusing. Not all the merswift people were so cavalier about the dreaded Mazela Fers- but still, it was difficult for a water-dwelling folk to understand the terror of a Fire Queen.

"Ooh, but I have heard of the bloodring rather recently! It went to the Gelm. That I know of. Well, not that it was her ring. But even so."

Emelyn, though she stood next to Marissa, wasn't listening to the Filor. Instead, she'd turned to Pierre, who'd begun to- of all things- cry.

"Pierre?" She asked, shockingly concerned. She knelt down to her son, but he hiccoughed and tried to turn his face away. Only then did she realize that he had been trying- quite in vain- to sidle up to Marissa and take something from the pocket-like folds in her skirts.

"Why would you do that?" She asked, no longer whispering. Pierre coughed and sniffed, and put one hand on his mother's arm. The other cradled his forehead.

"I... I just wanted to see if I could. But I can't. I can't, and it hurts so bad, my head hurts so baaad..." he wrapped his arms about his mother, and she hugged him, despite the distinctive p***k his spines made against her arms. She was in greater pain than that. Her son was suffering, and she did not know how to help him.

Swizzlet was young, and had never had children of her own. Still, the sight of a little one crying incited the as-of-yet-nonexistant mothering instinct in her, and she lifted herself slightly from her practical pit of watersponges so as to see the child better.

"Ohhh," she breathed, "poor little one. He stinks of a curse. Is he alright?"

The Filor's words floated down to her as if on a breath. They were so faint, she could barely hear them. Even so, the gypsy mother turned up to her over the boy's shoulder.

"I don't know if he's okay, actually. The Fae of the Twiggle Woods cursed him. He used to be such a... brash child. And he didn't used to be white. Now it hurts him if he tries to do anything... 'bad'. He's not himself anymore." She held him tighter to her. Despite everything... she wanted her son back. Not this boy she didn't know.

The wman nodded. "Oh, the older folks in the village tend not to learn many languages- they stick around and expect the traders to come to them. ...Hmm? Your hood? Oh, please. Don't mind me." She took a sweetmeat from a passing tray. The woman never ceased, it seemed, in her eating.

Lorelei pushed her hood back onto her shoulders, closing her eyes for a moment in relief as the cool air breezed over her. Shame and the closeness of the crowd had left her overheated.

"She was very nice. Actually, her blarnbird had flown off - I helped her get it back." She smiled a little, feeling more at ease already.

Vanna nibbled on her sweat now, after swallowing the gum. (Nobody had told her that swallowing gum wasn't the best thing) Squirming, she reached out for their companion, waving and trying to touch her face in greeting. This was the nice woman, as opposed to those weird people who had made her hurt!

She looked surprised, and the lacy gills that broached her shoulders twittered in the breeze- a faint whistling sound emanating from them as they moved. "If it's just a kindness curse, then all you have to do is something drastic- something cruel enough that there's no way his system can overcome it by being 'good'. Like... hurt him, or poison him or something. The curse will protect him from being killed."

The woman did give her a long look. The people from Enallas were blunt. But she didn't say anything about the obvious scars and deformities of Lorelei's face. She figured that the woman had put a glamor on herself to protect her face, but that it had fallen free with the Banner Bearer's spell.

"That was nice of you. I'm not a bird trader myself, but I know some people have very strong connections with their aviaries." She looked forward a moment. "So, did your caravan come with the other gypsies?"

If only the 'glamour' had fallen.

"Other gypsies? My caravan came in only a short while ago... I had no idea there was another caravan here, as well."

Unless... well, two possibilities surfaced in her mind. The first was Leax's caravan. If he was here... if he... well. He wouldn't recognize either of them now.

And the other was that it was Shamira's. Though they wouldn't have "come" to the Port - they were a troop that didn't journey. Their home was the market squares of the city.

"Oh, yes. One that reminds me of a ...flower name. And the other I've not met any of them, except, pardon my language, a very delicious man in a red robe. Yeee-um." She laughed.

Swizzlet sighed, and lowered herself back into the enclave of moist sponges. She flopped the end of her pink and blue tail up once, then let it settle again in the moisture. Her voice was as soft as ever when she replied.

"I don't have any reason to lie. It's a common enough knowledge. And it's the only known way to fix him."
