Mafa only let out a meek smile at Kicheko's reaction. Mafa didn't know why the other hyena would rather hear stories over eating something as rare as a bird... Some things were just beyond her. Or maybe it was the fact that she was hungry as always; there was nothing to eat here and even if there was there was no way she could take down a decent sized prey animal all alone. Mafa licked her watering chops and took her eyes from the bird, responding to Kicheko's question with a shrug,

"I'm waiting..."

She was waiting for Banzai to come back; her only companion and only other clan mate. He had been gone forever and inside she knew he was gone forever and yet she wouldn't acept it; she'd wait here and watch over the clan for as long as she needed to.

The bird had watched Mafa's expression, and her chops. As she suspected, she wouldn't be as easily swayed in regards to a storyteller. Remaining quiet for a moment, she was beginning to think of another story in regards to her two simple words: I'm waiting.

Blinking in a dull fashion, the red-eyed hyena tilted her head in curiousity. "Waiting for what? Someone or something?"

In a similar fashion to how Kicheko had done, Kisa also tilted her head at Mafa. She too was curious in regards to the answer.

((Sorry I haven't replied in ages Lizzy xD Maybe we can continue that RP at a future date if anything? x333

This place need some livening up, nuff talk, lets do it! Ze wind calls you! xD))

A cold, harsh wind made it's way almost feverishly through the barren wasteland that was the elephant graveyard. It made itself known by stirring up the grey dust that had lain dormant for the longest time. For no animal dared tread here and stirr it up, no animal wanted to for that matter. There were few that braved the harsh conditions of the graveyard, none other than they scavenging mongrels that were the hyenas. Though now, there were barely any hyenas left too. The plague had killed off the leaders of the old pack and had driven others out as well. Nothing remained of and structure of a pack had died with the members of it. There were a few hyenas scattered here and there, young ones mostly, not like they could do anything about it... Could they?

The clever wind seemed to have brought about a passage of time along with it and it also lurked a certain hyena out of her hiding. Mafa, who had once been a lively youth who had tagged around with the old pack poked her head out of the the huge elephant skull, the center of everything in the graveyard as it was. She had taken residence in there, waiting for the old members to return. She'd been waiting for a long time and she grew colder every day. The realization had not yet struck her that the others hadn't just taken a leave of absense, they had died. Died as her family had so long ago. She was all alone in the world, she just wasn't willing to face it.

Reluctantly the slim and boney figure of a hyena that had been living off of small prey for most of her life stepped out from the gaping mouth of the skull. She stood silently, letting the wind ruffle her coarse and rather unhealthy looking pelt. She seemed perfectly suited to live in the graveyard; she was almost invisible among all the swirling dust as her coat matched the colors of the ground almost perfectly. Her name, Mafa, also meant graveyard. This was her home. Only one feature of the emaciated looking creature stood out vividly, her eyes. There were an aqua color, that of crisp, clean water, a resource that was as scarce as prey in the graveyard. Yet as the hyena had grown the glow that her eyes had held faded, they were now empty shells that represented her feelings. She felt empty. She felt... Alone. Her eyes looking up at the foreboding sky. Perhaps it would rain. Then again it never rained, but some rain wouldn't hurt at all.

There was a reluctant sigh on the hyena's side as he took a few steps forward and then circled around, retreating from the winds of change and returning into the safety of the skull. She didn't want things to be different, perhaps she was just an old timer, all she wanted was for things to go back to the way they were. But that would never happen.

((Ditto. Tuk kinda left the graveyard though. x.x; ))

His black mane ruffling in the warm wind, Tukutu stepped back into what used to be his makeshift home. A little nervous to run into someone, he slowly padded his way through. The hard dirt crushed in clumps beneath his paws as he walked around the dried bones, sifting his was through.
Strange....he didn't see anyone around. Where was everyone? He hadn't been here for a long time, since he got fed up and left for the southernlands.
His breathing became a bit heavier as he got closer to the larger piles of bones, where most of the large skulls and hip bones rested. Was there anyone alive, or was he all alone? He didn't get along with others well, but he didn't want to be all alone, that was for sure.

Oh and it seemed that clever wind had brought change indeed.

There was a rustle, something almost... Unatural when it came to the graveyard. The soft and meek shuffle of paws, the crunch of unused dirt, the labored breathing of another. Immediately Mafa's head shot up. She was surprised but she seemed to have been waiting for the moment when the dreary calm was disturbed. That could only mean one thing, that they were back. Of course she wasn't thinking about the rugged male that was incoming. But she simply thought it had to be the old members of the long forgotten pack. Surely no other would want to return here, right? With an uplifting of spirits Mafa stood and trotted out of the gateway that was the skull mouth in a hurried pace. There was almost a smile on her emotionless face, maybe she wouldn't be so lonely after all.

There was a figure in the distance and she ran for it, opening to her mouth to call out the name of the only friend she had had, Banzai. But alas as she neared the hint of smile faded, her spirits plummeted and fizzled out, her heart crushed. She stopped running and stood stark still, cold eyes fixed on this hyena; one she remembered from her childhood. She had never liked him and this didn't help. She hadn't been expecting him at all. If there was one thing she wanted more than anything at that moment it would be to replace this uncouth character with Banzai. But of course that was impossible. Mafa scoffed, turning her head from him, not being able to face the hyena that had brought her such dissapointment,

"What the hell are you doing here?"

Her tone was laced with acid and hinted at how she had been longing to see a very different face. She wasn't used to talking to others, usually she spoke with herself, with the bones. The sound of her own voice even startled her and it displayed her emotions perfectly. Harsh and unwelcoming.

Tuks' ears had twitched at the noise. The scilence he was used to made his ears twitch. They flattened themselves against his head as she swiveled around, seeing the other 'yena. He wasn't able to make out who it was, not seeing another one like him for a very long time.
"Ah, what 'ave you gotta say ta that? No 'un lives 'ere anymore." He spat on the ground, disgusted by it. Why should someone question where he went along? He never stayed anywhere long, though the graveyard is where he felt most comfortable. His dark, near black coloured mane began to prickle down his neck, feeling a bit anxious about this little meeting. His tail flicked a few times behind him, moreso swishing back and forth across the ground, sending little flurries of dust up into the already heavy air.

Mafa's own hackles bristled a bit but not in agression. She wasn't angry to be exact, just insulted. Her maw dropped open a centimeter or two and then snapped back shut with a click of her sharp teeth. Her head whipped back to face the male and her icy gaze was on him once again. How dare he say that, of course someone lived here! She did!

"Don't speak unless you know what you're talking about boy. I Live here. I may be the only one, but someone has to watch over the damn pack. I'm just waiting for Banzai to get back"

At least that's what she had been telling herself all this time. Her friend would be back to take his rightful place at the head of the pack and she'd follow him, even if it wasn't standard protocall for a male to lead. She glared again as she thought about it, her nails digging into the dirt, feeling it under her paws, almost savoring the feel of it. She wouldn't stand for someone to insult her home.

Not showing much emotion, Tuk looked at her for a long while before replying to her. He studied her intesnely, slowly remembering who he was dealing with. Her. The first one she had come across before being kicked out of his home, the one he'd teased and been mean to. Hmph. Well she didn't mean much, that was for sure. And Banzai? He hadn't seen that old gramps for a looong time now, and just assumed he was dead. Why hold hopes for someone at all?
"Eh, wishful thinkin' ya got there, Mafa."
His reply was of indifference, though he did want to shoot back a bit of acid in his reply with her. But why bother? He didn't want to get in an argument with her, it just wasn't worth the little energy that he had left. He could tell just by how she looked that life here wasn't any easier then it had been for him out on the southern plains.

Mafa held her glare but in a way, it wasn't even a glare. It was just the way she held her eyes lately. Those old wives tales do say if you do that to your eyes they stay that way. Whether it was true or not it happened with Mafa. She had been glaring at everything since she found out what happened to her family and now she just couldn't stop. Essentially, Mafa hadn't seen Banzai for just about as long as he had but Mafa had never lost hope that he would return. She had no idea where he had gone. Last she saw of him was before she left for the Southlands with a certain Sauda. She huffed lightly,

"What makes you say that then?"

The tone was no longer an angry or spitefull one. It was lacking all that and above all, lacking emotion. It was as flat as a lake with no wind to make the waves. Nothing made her care anymore and nothing really would.

Tuk shivered a bit. A little chill went down his spine. Maybe he sould stop his crabbyness and actually try to...act nice to her. He did his best to hide a disgusted look on his face, since he was thinkin' to himself. Guh. Niceness never did come easy to a hyena.
"No re'son. Ya just seem a bit too positive on gramps a' comin' back, I'm a' thinkin'."
He shook his head a bit, trying to get rid of this little itch inside of his brain. What was he thinkin' talking to her still? He knew they mixed as well as....something icky.

Mafa's mouth opened slowly and then closed. She had to be positive about him coming back, he was the only one she had left in this sorry world. She considered him family, like ther father whose life had been taken when she was so young. She wasn't ready to lose another dad. Her head turned as she finally spoke, trying to hide the tone of desperateness in her voice,

"He has to come back. There's nothing here without him, no friendliness, no food, no order. I can't just give up hope"

Mafa sighed and batted a clod of dirt that had settled under her paws away. With a scoff she turned and took a few steps and then turned again to repeat the process. She had spent much time pacing around like this and pondering on what would happen if the old pack indeed never came back. But she couldn't lose hope, it was the only thing holding her back from a complete breakdown.

Tukutu felt a little....sorrow?...at her reply. There was no need for someone like him. Family, to him, was just a load of bull. He got kicked out of his family, so why would he be looking for another one? No one really liked him, he was crabby, a bull, mildly self-centered, and as he though, a good hyena. Somewhat ruthless, and stubborn to live on his own.
Snuffing the air before he replied, Tuk eyes her paws thoughtfully. Why, who had grown up mostly on her own, hold herself to such silly dreams?
"Ah, there ne'er seemed ta be much order 'ere, ah thought. But if tha's whatcha think, then why're ya just sittin' 'ere, waitin' for 'im? Girls seem ta do that a lot, while the one they're waitin' for ne'er comes back."
He swished his tail on the gournd, causing a little puff of dust. Maybe that little hike of his to the southern lands had matured him a bit....maybe. Or it could all be bull, even he didn't know. Moody beast.

Mafa rolled her eyes at Tuk's response and stopped pacing, turning her head to look at him sternly,

"What do you suggest I do? I've already been keeping order around here, not that there's any one to disturb the order anyways"

She scoffed, she had been keeping order of herself, she was the only one around here anyways. Her ears pressed back tightly to her skull at the last of his comment, almost as if she didn't even want to listen to it. For Mafa, she had matured at a young age, too young. She had been robbed of her puphood or so she thought. She had had happy days with Banzai, wandering around the lion territories, looking for her parents. And then came the day when they found them, or what was left of them that is. Nothing but blood and bones, the sight itself made Mafa the way she was now. The world had taken all she had, and she wasn't willing to give anything back. She took a sigh, her tone once again empty,

"I've already lost a father, I don't want to think about losing another one"

Tuk tried to keep a sneer away from his features, as he was so frusterated with her. He was trying to do some goodness (or so he thought) by trying to make her do something instead of just wasting away. Sure he didn't like his kind too much, but he didn't want to see them disappearing like they had been. What if some lions decided that the graveyard could be a new place to occupy? It was 'yena territory, and he never wanted to see another lion in here again.
...but then his thoughts were bundling up again. Silly creature could never think straight too well.
"Eh, ah stick with what ah said. Sittin' 'round doin' nuthin' can't be good for a 'yena. Loosin' yer strenth, ya are I betcha."
Tukutu gave a little scratch at the ground, feeling awkward still.

Some of Mafa's own thoughts were similar to those of Tukutu's. There was no way in hell that she'd let a lion pass through here peacefully. They had done enough damage to her already and they were'nt going to do anymore. Not if she could help it. Though for the most part, the graveyard was safe from lions. A creature as weak as them would never be able to survive in such a barren land. There was barely enough food to keep little Mafa fed, no way a full grown lion or his pride would be able to sustain life. Her aqua eyes widened a little, tail swishing to and fro in frustration. He was right, she was losing what strength she had. Mentally and physically. She was worn out from being here all alone,

"Fine then, stay with me. We'll revive the old pack, bring the hyenas back to the yard... Or are you just talk? A single hyena can't change a think, but a whole pack, there's something."

Mafa's tone was flat as usual but there was a hint of hope in her once radiant eyes. It was barely noted and not shown anywhere else, but it was there.
