Leif's bones weren't popping. They were shifting, textures changing until the skin felt as hard and cool to the touch as the rock. After several hits, the brick shattered away, crumbling and rolling down the dark haired man's sides in that strange, water-like flow. Blood from the nails dried on granite, but shifting neck. Leif was done. His concious mind was now fighting back against the power, pressing it down as he pressed down with sharp motion, intending to pop his eyes right in their sockets. After that last ditch effort, he used that pressing force to turn and propel himself out of the room, running, flying faster than he'd ever run in his life.

((Just got up a (really crappy) sketch of Ger.

Gervain let out a dismayed snarl of rage as the brick shattered, leaving the other's skin unmarred. He was caught by surprise as the other ran - much faster than he would ever anticipated and Earthen mage could have run. His hands, however, were fixed - dug deep in the other's neck - and would not let go. Perhaps it was another trait of the Mordout - that once he had a grip, he was nearly impossible to remove. Breathless was the first to follow, snapping around quickly and uttering a shreiking howl that was more animal than it ever could have emitted when alive. It chased after its prey, Listless following slowly, steadily behind.

((Its not bad! I think its cute.))
Leif rolled and bucked like a beast as he ran, taking off into the hallway through the gap in the wall, and taking advantage of his rock skin to dive and roll down the stairs, making sure to grind Gervain's clinging body into the boards. Good thing he was a squatter, good thing the building was condemned. Fresh panick bolted through him. He didn't want to be seen battling a mage. Especially since he appeared to have just as much power. That panick allowed the power another chance to take hold, turned the skin on his neck a solid rock around the nails that dug into him. Once the rock was formed, he twisted his neck and snapped free, breaking the nails and taking off down the stairs again, diving down flights on all fours like an animal.

Gervain was thrown off, dislodged... but he recovered himself, even as he landed, splayed, on the floor. His fingers were bleeding, but he ignored than and stood up slowly. A hissing word issued from between his lips - a sound that most deffinately was in no living language. The sounds crawled across the skin, and for a moment a cold, stony grave was almost visible. Breathless reacted immidiately, bounding across to catch Leif with clammy, grey hands. The whisps and tendrals that made the creature up - the substence that seemed so weak - was condencing at an alarming speed. One moment Breathless was passing through the Geomancer and the next its hands had closed, now substancial, around the other's lungs - the breath it hungered for.

Leif's pale green eyes went wide for an instant, his consious mind telling him that he couldn't possibly survive. Then the freshly awakened power seized utter control over him, whispering, purring like it was a separate being. It launched Leif's body at Gervain, clamped his hands in a wind-pipe crushing grip around the necromancer's neck, Then turned Leif's body to stone. He was marble solid around the other's neck in that killing grip, and his lungs were no longer tissue to be torn. To save him the magic stopped all of his functions and froze him around the other. Leif felt himself thinking in slow motion, synapsis sealing him completely inside in spiritual form. He was the earth, the crust, the molten center of firey soul on the inside. All that power and knowledge surged through him, calmly showing him that he needed to kill the other in order to live.

Gervain felt the rock-solid grip clamp around his own neck and his panting breath was cut off in sudden, violent choking. Breathless, dismayed, yowled and tried in vein to clutch at the man's other organs. Listless had arrived, turning everything around itself a monochrome grey. Gervain's fingers scrabbed at the man's hand, trying to loose the grip, but to no avail. Some small part of his mind was conscious enough to realise that the other man was slowly killing him... slowly drawing out his life as Gervain fought fruitlessly for breath. With that realisation came anger - white hot rage that filled his entire being. Shakilly, a hand reached for a vial in his pocket. He retreived it and, too weak to open it, he smashed it on the other's granite arm. An acrid fume filled the room as the Mordicant slithered out, flames igniting around its form as it grew to full size. Fire could melt rock and the Mordicant's fire was much hotter than any human fire. But even Gervain was not safe from this monster. He had most of it controlled, but that didn't stop the heat waves from hitting him with instant sunburn. The Mordicant reached out and encircled Leif's arm with its firy grip, slowly melting away the stony flesh.

((A Mordicant is a dead spirit that has no real form... it's created from many different spirits fused together with the element of Fire - so either another mage helped him or he somehow obtained something that bore some small bit of Pyromancy in it.))

((Stop trying to kill my baby T-T))
The hot molten center inside the rock that was Leif smiled and rolled to the surface, stoney rock face turning to rippling, bubbling magma. The floor around him sizzled into flames. Leif wasn't just one stage of earth, as most lower level geomancers might be, he was all. He was the newborn earth, uncooled core bubbling and sizzling, burning the skin he still gripped like iron. Some tiny part of Leif yelped. He didn't want to kill anyone. But the more overwhelming part knew that it was either kill or be killed. After all, it was nature's way.

((Same could be said to you. xD I have intentions for Ger before he dies. =P ))

Dammit. What happened to the idea that newly awoken mages were weak?! Usually magic did build up when unrecognized and unused, but never to this extent. And unused, unpracticed magic should not be this strong. Magic had to grow with the mage's consciousness and recognition of his ability.... This... this was unheard of. In a desperate attempt to save his life, he allowed the Mordicant to melt the other's hand. The molten, firy mass burned him severely, but he was free of the other... and away. Throught throbbing with pain, he quickly melded himself with the shadows, leaving his three spirits as a distraction. Luckily, he knew this part of town... He could find his home easily - and it was even quite near, probably only a ten or twenty minute walk from here.... That burst of hope was enough to give him energy to issued a whispered command - for he was too weak and his throat too ravaged to make any sound louder - to his spirits, and then find his way quickly, stealthily out from the building. He had... he had to make it... He just had to. He couldn't allow himself to die... not when he had come this far...

He scrabbled down the side of the building, broken and bloody finger nails somehow finding gripps. And he was on the ground... and away. But he was not quick. He was in too weak a condition and he soon had to halt, panting, his bone-white hands clutching at a rail. he was barely strong enough to stand.

Vengance... The power whispered. It wanted that necromancer's blood. The melted magma that had broken away rejoined with the body and reformed into a hand. This birth of power was only the beginning. A trama to raise up the young mage. Old Leif squeeked a protest, he didn't want to be a mage, he didn't want these powers. But it was too late, and he never really had a choice. Natural talent like that never really gave you a choice. He swatted the spirits away in a long sweep of his arm, the target was gone, there was no need for more of these. He wanted to go back to his human form, his comfortable skin, his bright leafy eyes.

"My young friend you are quite dense. Can you not tell?"

::Jaunus held his hand aloft and he caught a snow flake. He closed his hand and opened it to reveal a huge snow flake. He threw it into the air and in an instant it exploded into thousands of tiny ice crystals that froze the ground where they landed::

"I am not only a Geomancer but im also a Cryomancer. I thought the icy fist through the wall would have explained all of that. Anyway because of my powers i can sense stuff like that. Gods i knew most puffs were dense but damn"
((And your character is revealed... in the super crowded, super stressed streets of New York. And other people probably heard him. And see the ice. And he thinks Apple is dense? xD;; Well... okay... he is, but... he's not quite stupid enough to reveal himself in a place full of people. Mages are VERYVERYVERY paranoid. If they're not, they die... or get put in asylums. Or go on drugs. Or all of the above. I think I should probably put more imfasis on this on the first post. D": ))

Apple watched, dark eyes widening. He might be daft... but he wasn't stupid enough to use magic in a such a people-infested area. Hopefully... hopefully no one had seen. He goggled at the other for a moment and then, remembering himself, he shut his mouth. "Well... that's fine for me to know, but what about all the other people here?" he asked, gesturing around themselves. If anyone had seen that... "It's not safe... not safe to do those things..." he murmured, a pout set deeply in his lips. He looked almost like an injured puppy.

((oh no dont worry about that. Its basically part of his personality and reputation))

::At first Jaunus didnt understand Apples concern. Normaly he doesnt worry to much about showing off hsi powers. If anyone saw him and did try to fight him, they would be spalttered across the road, wall and passing cars. His kind personality begets his cold demeanor(sp?) when he fights. Jaunus laughed and rubbed Apples head taking him under his arm::

"Ahaha dont worry about me Apple-puff! Ill crush anyone who gets in my way mercilessly"

And it was then that Gervain drew upon his last reserve: that small bit of Chronomancy that had somehow leaked into his blood. He couldn't go back very far - and luckily he didn't need to. The fight had not lasted all that long. He croaked out a last spell, his body becoming enveloped in a sheild of grey magic. It took several minutes, but he was soon back in... better condition. His skin was unburn, his nails back and human... He had some small scrapes and cuts that had been the initial impact from the bricks - and many bruises. But his condition was much improved. He straighted up, coughing slightly. He was still very weak... but better...

Apple pushed himself away from the man. Again. "Well... that's not nice," he said firmly, a pout set deeply in his lips. Just... killing people. Apple hated that... that heartlessness... He couldn't stand it. That was why he would never - well... almost never - use his powers... at least not in front of anyone. He hated that people had to use and abuse whatever they found. It was just... hurtful.

Leif ran down the stairs of his building cooling down as he moved, reforged into his normal self by the time he stepped outside. He followed bloody footsteps, his eyes roaming like a hawk's, his nose lifted to the air like a wolf's. His curiousity always seemed to outrank his fear. Dispite being almost killed, he still wanted to know. What was this? Did all mage's go through this? Was he indeed a mage?
PostPosted: Wed Sep 27, 2006 5:16 pm

Gervain began to walk, then - slowly, it was true, but still faster than he had done before - making steady progress towards his own home. He had no sense of time any more... of sound... all he could see were his own feet, repetitively hitting the ground and rising and falling and... After some time he became aware that he could hear footfalls behind himself... but he had no strength to turn and look...

"Hey! Turn around!" Leif growled, darting closer to the necromancer, but not within reach. He flanked him, then slowed to his wounded, crawling walk. "Why'd you do that, huh? I was fine before you came along. Now look at me. I'm a freak!" He snarled. He was so confused, worries and questions running wild through his head like stampeding horses, trampling over each other and making his thoughts frantic and unfinished.
