Garren cocked an eyebrow at the boy and folded his arms, a little disbelieving of his excuse but . . .

“I do believe there is one in your room. Go have a check and if not just say so and I’ll show you to one.” He said softly.

Quote:
“Tanyeera, I’ve been expecting you.” The God didn’t find that joke quite as amusing as he used to but it wasn’t yet to the point where he felt like he should stop using it.
“And obviously I am willing to hear what you what you have to say or else you would not have been able to find this place.” There had been days when Gods didn’t feel like dealing with mortals or a certain mortal in particular and would close of their section of the realm.
“But I have to wonder what could possibly bring the host body of the Great Demon to me when I have yet to call for her.” While he wasn’t the god of sarcasm there were times when Sazimeca acted like it. While he knew the question he was more interested in how she would ask it.

Tanyeera ignored the sarcasm and simply answered the question. "You already know about the quest I've been forced on and you know the object of the quest. I'm sure you also already know about the object we require from your temple. Therefore, I have simply this to ask" Tanyeera took a deep breath and looked Sazimeca in the eye. "May we please have it? Or if you're really attached to the thing, then would you mind just telling us where Bellaream's damn Teltayen is so we can go get it without going through the whole song-and-dance of trying to find the blasted thing with your blasted thing?"

“It would be wise of you to remember to at least give the attempt to be polite when you are asking for a favor, especially when the person you are asking has no obligation to give you what you are asking for. The compass itself has little value to me, but it is quite humorous how impressed mortals can get when shown even the slightest bit of divine power. I wouldn’t dream of taking away something that my loyal followers hold so dear.” Sazimeca suddenly had an idea, it would be no trouble at all for him to simply enchant an object to let Tanyeera find the temple that she was looking for, and, as much as he hated to admit it, the Goddess of Miracles was very helpful in keeping the spirits of the humans up. While he decided to help, he wanted to be sure he at least got something out of it.

“I’d be willing to lend you an item that would allow you to find whatever temple you happen to be looking for, in this case Bellaream’s temple that contains the Teltayten. The artifact that she claims will allow all of you to escape your curses.” The God smiled “I could tell you of whether it can or can not, but where would the fun in that be? Anyway, if I do this for you I’ll do it on two conditions. Are you interested?”

Tanyeera mentally translated this to herself. Sazimeca didn't really want to give her the compass since his followers were so damn impressed with the thing, but he was willing to enchant a new thingamajig for them to find Bellaream's temple if Tanyeera did as he said.

Tanyeera found that rather despicable of him considering the fact that she was being forced on this Teltayen quest in the first place because of she was bound to obey the damn Rules and now she had to do something for another god just to help the first one whom she didn't even like.

"Do I have a choice?" she asked rhetorically. "You know the Rules as well as I do God of Knowledge. I'm bound to see this quest fulfilled by whatever means possible so long as those means don't directly go against the damn Rules. Alright then. Hit me with it. What are the conditions?"

“I do know the rules, and it would be no fun if you only agreed because you had to, so I’m offering two very generous clauses that will allow you to say no if you disagree to my conditions. If you say no and leave I will remain completely neutral in your quest and if you can convince my monks to let you use the compass, so be it, I won’t advise them either way. However if you say answer the way you do only because you would be otherwise forced to by the rules, I will withdraw my offer and advise my monks not to give you the compass. Thereby while it would be in the quests best interest for you to say yes, the rules can’t force you to do so for that would be in the quest’s worst interest, nor could it force you to say no. So the choice is yours.

“Now as for the conditions, the first is obvious, when the bards or whatever tell the tale be sure that my name is also put in there, in a favorable light of course. The second condition is that after this quest is over I can call upon you for a favor, one that the rules may not otherwise allow. The favor will be announced at my choosing and if Bellaream is wrong you can’t count a quest that the rules do allow as this favor. This favor won’t involve giving up your life, unless you do so because of a failure on your part, and if that is truly the only option you will be off the hook. Look at it this way, if Bellaream is right, then you’ll only have one more job after this one, and if she’s wrong it’s just one more of many.” Sazimeca focused his power so that he could be sure that Tanyeera answered without the curse forcing her to, while he still didn’t know what she would say, he would be able to tell.

Tanyeera considered it. So it was purely her choice was it? Choice one: Refuse and attempt to fight your way through a bunch of highly trained, armoured monks. Choice Two: Accept, get the damn thingamajig, use it to find Bellaream's Teltayen, then come back and go off on another quest.

Eventually, Tanyeera responded. "What would this 'favor' be?"

"I haven't decided yet, I'll probably wait until I find myself particularly board one day and figure out something fun to have you do then." The God smiled again.
"Well fun for me to watch anyway, there are times when being a god that knows almost everything can be quite boring. I can't guarantee it will be fun for you, but if it was it wouldn't be much of a sacrifice on your part now would it? But you can’t get the aid of a God for nothing. Even Bellaream didn’t give the crystal its power purely out of the goodness of her heart. My existence, however is in very great condition so I can focus on smaller issues like my own personal amusement.”

Thorn muttered a quick thanks and returned to his room. He didn't go to the bathroom though. Thorn left this door open and watched Garren continue down the hall.

Tanyeera groaned and muttered to herself "As if I don't provide enough entertainment already."

Still, she shrugged in defeat and looked at Sazimeca squarely in the eye. "Fine. I'll do whatever favor you ask of me in exchange for something to find the Teltayen in this pox-rotted quest."

She took a deep breath and started speaking more formally. "I, Tanyeera Mekelentin Canord, Servant of the Gods." she couldn't quite hide her slight grimace as she said that but forged on grimly. "hereby swear that I shall be in Sazimeca, the God of Knowledge's debt should he give me an object to find the Teltayen. He may call in my debt to him at any point after I find the Teltayen and my debt will compel me to answer his summons. My debt will compel me to accomplish one task and one task only for Sazimeca, God of Knowledge, after which my debt to him will be settled. This task must not be in direct opposition to the Rules I am bound by or this contract will be considered null and void. Do you accept these terms, Sazimeca, God of Knowledge?"

Garren turned away and stalked off down the hallway. He walked quickly and quietly back to his quarters as Isarelle gave an unconscious mumble in his head. He was relieved that she hadn’t woken as he was on his little quest because otherwise it would have been the end of him.

Good thing she’s a heavy sleeper.

Sazimeca snapped his fingers and one of his servants appeared with an assortment of varying random items. He took a look at them for a brief moment and grabbed a quill made from a peacock feather. The servant disappeared and the feather began to glow with an Octarine light, the glow faded until it was a faint shimmer. Sazimeca looked over his handiwork then turned back to Tanyeera.
“If you set this feather on any map it will move to hover over the position of the temple that you most wish to visit, provided of course that the temple is in the are covered by the map. If you tell it to it will mark the map in that place for you, as an added bonus it will never run out of ink and you can use it as a regular quill pen. As long as you remember the entirety of my conditions including both the task and the part about the Bards and whatnot, I’m fine with the part about the part about the rules, provided you’re still forced to abide by them. No need to re-swear your oath taking the quill will acknowledge your agreement.” Sazimeca threw the feather so that it would land at Tanyeera’s feet, then leaned back and waited.

((When you guys are done with the whole 'pact' conversation and Tanyeera gets back to the manor {or did you leave? Isn't this all some kind of mind quest thing? I dunno} I'll set things for morning.))

((You're right, it was a mind to mind conversation. Tanyeera's body is still peacefully meditating in her room.))

Tanyeera reached to take up the quill, then hesitated. "I can't guarantee about the Bards." she warned. "The've got Bardic immunity after all. I'll cast you in as favorable a light as I can bear, but I can't be responsible for how they'll choose to interpret it."
PostPosted: Mon Jan 08, 2007 4:41 pm

“As long as you do in fact make the attempt I find that perfectly acceptable. I trust that there is nothing else.” With that the Knowledge God slowly faded from view in Tanyeera’s minds eye. He left only the feather behind. He had no real worries about the bards things generally came out as black or white in their songs. And as long as Tanyeera tried he would easily emerge as the latter. The God smiled, he would enjoy seeing this quest unfold.

((So wait . . . is it done now? I'm not sure if I should let Tanyeera post first . . . I'll let her post first just in case.))
