Oh.. Stick heights hahah.. my instructors are happy just if we're all the same. The volume doesn't matter... other than my senior year in HS when we played the Blues Brothers and the judge got mad at us. "Percussion... Two words... TOO LOUD!!!" and then my director told us to tone it down. So we played with the band again. "Nope, too loud" Again, we toned it down. "Nope, too loud." So our BASS DRUMMER STOPPED PLAYING! and then it was, "Okay, good." The bass leader was like, "Okay that does it. I'm going home."

Because our freshman were learing this year. (one senior [me] two new sophmores and 6 freshman). . . . we constantly got yelled at "LISTEN BACK" I think it's finally burned into their skulls that they need to listen back to the dl. stare At least next year we'll have a few good new vets.

I love marching season because i get to play in the pit. It is so much fun and i love playing with the battery to. I wish i could play percussion all year round, but im stuck with the bassoon for now. My BD wont let me switch b/c we have to many percussionists crying

I actually tried to play the clarinet once while I was in middle school. That was a disaster on about forty different levels... hats off to woodwind players. You rox0rz

yes... the Real Feel pad is the best in my opinion. the black side is good for chopping out, and the rubber side jsut for fun. the X pads i've seen , have broken easily, so i would get the Real Feel Pad

o man... we get yelled at to LISTEN BACK alll the time... well the pit does. this year we had a TON of freshman, but suprisingly they were very talented and awesome. our pit music for this show was simply awesome. most of them played four mallets for the first time. it was awesome.

I guess our pit wasn't mostly freshman, but two of us, myself included, had never done percussion before. The guy normally plays violin, I guess, but he's switched to percussion, 'cause our school doesn't have an orchestra. I think he's gotten better throughout the year, but I wouldn't really know because he's not in my band. During MBand season, though, he kind of... wasn't that great. He seemed to have trouble finding the beat and stuff...
As for me, I think I did okay... But it kind of sucked... i mean, I could find the beat and everything, but it certainly was nerve-wrecking to be auditioning after ONE WEEK on the instrument. Seriously tough stuff... But I did okay... Everybody said they were impressed by my progress... Okay, I'll give myself that. From nothing to four-malleting in a week is okay progress... I was a wreck that week, though...

biggest bass drum of Lake Braddock Marching Band. I LOVE MY DRUM! I'm playing in a percussion ensemble, too. So I'm pretty balanced. but man I'm glad that there's a drum and pit forum, here!

I am noit a drummer which is what most of you classify as. Unless you know and readn and understand musical theory and can write music for all percussion instruments and not just the drums then you are a percussionist.
