There are five school horns, and we named them. 1) Saint Mike- Mike uses it and it was dropped on the bell so the dent is HUGE and it looks funny. 2) Gregor- It's Jill's horn, so it just seems right to call it that. 3) Silver Beauty- It's the best school horn, brand new, and nobody can use it. 4) The one- the horn that just sits ther. 5) Luck of the Irish- It's green. And it looks like somebody puked in the bell and didn't clean it up. my friend had to use it once and she got sick.
Our horn section can play. I have a nickel Conn 8-D. I heart it!
I just got the best baritone today for practicing and for next season! Our director said a girl shouldn't have to use the crap one so I got the new one! Yay!

ya, i'm bad with high notes, but i can reach some nice pedal tones. that's why i like the 2nd horn parts best. not too high notes, but still fun, complicated stuff.
this weekend is hilaritas (MY FAVORITE CONCERT), the jazzy christmas thing that actually includes horns. i love getting to play jazz and swing, but there's usually no parts for horn.

psycoticblue Hello to all you mean peoples! i come in here only to find my posts deleted. what's up with that? since this is a "french horn" guild, i guess i'll just brag like most of the rest of you do. ok. here it goes.... i have been playing french horn for almost seven years now. i have been section assistant and section leader for two years (one for each. our band director doesn't go on chairs but age) (and since there are only about 50 people in our band i'm the only french horn and i was placed in the low brass section) i have currently been teaching the freshman f.h. player, who just switched from trumpet, how to find the notes and pitches. and whole i am still bragging, let me say that i beat the senior french horn while i was a freshman, and the lowest note i can hit is an A, two notes lower than i've ever saw the rest of you guys "say" you play. i'm not all that great at high notes and the highest note i an hit is an A. so i can play three octaves. so, is this a post that can stay, are are you all gonna delete it too? woah. calm down.

Does anyone else have a playlist or burned CD devoted to horn music? I do. I have a WMP playlist titled "OMG HORNS." All I have are Brain and Tuckwell recordings...because the only ones I currently own are two Brain CDs (one of which is a burned CD itself, and I'm not counting the one I have that was produced by some cheap-o record company because they did a yucky job on the LP remastering) and the Tuckwell recordings came from a CD at the library. Richard Strauss is (was?) awesome. heart Whee. I just got back from playing a concert tonight. We did the final movement of Shostakovich 5th...great horn solo in that one. I found that excerpt online and wrote it into my part because it made counting the sustained notes under it easier sweatdrop Ohimaesama Ello, all. Im not in the guild.. but I requested to join. >_< Sorry 'bout that. The acceptance system is on crack, apparently. By the way, your sig image is over the 500x500 pixel limit. You should change it before a purple mod catches you, or someone reports you. (I don't report sigs unless they're really offensive...and I've never had to do that because other people always do it first, fortunately.) Your other posts were deleted because they were SPAM. psycoticblue's deleted posts *runs in with a smug look on her face and a bomb in her hand* BWAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!! scream you and your precious instruments can DIE!!!!!!!!!!! scream *lights the bomb, throws it, and runs away laughing like a mad man. ^ What does that have to do with horns and/or mellophones? Absolutely nothing. This thread is for meeting other horn players and having intelligent discussions. If you can't be mature like the rest of us...Chatterbox. Now.

I said I hit the F below the bass staff, and I can play up to the high C above the Staff, that is umm 3 octaves and 5 notes on my mellophone. On french horn I could play my C 4 octaves. So you aren't that special. So why don't you get over yourself. Your head is just a little big.

psycoticblue ya ok. that's nice. i said that was the french horn. not the mellophone, but seemings as i have a "big head" i'm not going to even go into that. plus i don't like the mellophone. you know, i don't even know why i come in here anymore. i never though others thought so highly of themselves. you probably think i do, but i actually don't. (let me guess, you don't believe me, right? how did i know........) i though studing music would be fun, but if others who play french horn (or any instrument) are like some of you guys, then that just totally changed my career. i actually have a life and don't think about my french horn 24/7, and i don't devote myself to french horn music. i have friends i like to hang out with, and sports to play. so good bye 4 eva! You don't want to devote yourself to the music? Then do your band a favor and make room for someone who does. And that was the third time you've left "4 eva." I'd delete your posts but you've made a fool of yourself already, so I'm going to leave them. Noble horn players, I beg of you, don't feed the troll any more if she comes back. Attempting to bring this back to the thread topic...What are your favorite horn solo pieces, or orchestral/ensemble solos, to play or listen to?

psycoticblue ya ok. that's nice. i said that was the french horn. not the mellophone, I said on the last post that on "FRENCH HORN" I could play my C 4 octaves. That isn't on my mellophone. psycoticblue but seemings as i have a "big head" i'm not going to even go into that. You came in saying that you could play better than we could. Quote: and the lowest note i can hit is an A, two notes lower than i've ever saw the rest of you guys "say" you play. psycoticblue plus i don't like the mellophone. That is nice. psycoticblue you know, i don't even know why i come in here anymore. We don't either. All you are ever in is a "bad mood". psycoticblue i never though others thought so highly of themselves. Neither did I. Then you came in and started saying that you could play better than us. psycoticblue you probably think i do, but i actually don't. (let me guess, you don't believe me, right? how did i know........) I do believe you, because I agree with you. psycoticblue i though studing music would be fun, but if others who play french horn (or any instrument) are like some of you guys, then that just totally changed my career. Well, you must not have liked the idea of that career that much if a group of people online changed your opinion, which if it was me I'm sorry. psycoticblue i actually have a life and don't think about my french horn 24/7, I have a life, and I can't think about my F Horn 24/7, one because I play bassoon and have many other things going on in my life. psycoticblue and i don't devote myself to french horn music. Neither do I. I don't listen to music just because of the French Horn parts. I don't even listen to Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, or Pirates of the Caribbean soundtracks like you do. I like the stuff like All American Rejects, Brand New, Story of the Year, and Blink 182. psycoticblue i have friends i like to hang out with, So do I. I also have a boyfriend and I like to spend time with him. I play Varsity Soccer. Bye- P.S. I would learn how to spell and punctuate right.

That girl was bugging me. Make her shut up please. Bragging makes me mad, and an A isn't much, deary. I'm a wee bit peeved. Our section leader in band is responsible for handing out parts for sightreading, and I alwasy get fourth because they don't like me. Then they get mad when I get 1st or a solo when our director hands it out! RAR! I'm angered! I needed to vent!

Woot!! 10 cool points for all of you french horn and mellophone players out there! I've been playing for almost 10 years now. I am currently employed by the U.S. Government to play in one of the Marine Bands stationed in San Diego. I'll leave out which one, just cuz' I want to. If you really wanna know, PM me. Anyway. I love the frenxh horn but I do miss the mellophone and if you think the mellophone doesn't have a beautiful tone, you've never heard anyone play it properly. Afterimage ^^ im one too, i love it. its such a beautiful instrument. btu anyways, i was wondering, is it even POSSIBLE to get a sheap but still really good double horn? i have a single horn. sweatdrop and i wanted to like trade it in or whatnot years ago, but they're jsut not worht the same, so my parents said if i wanted a duoble, id hafta pay for it myself. sweatdrop im saving... I do believe that depends on your definition of cheap...
