((Yeah, I know. XD See, I thought East was West. Honestly. I was originally going to say something about Luwa, too, and I know that's on the eastern shore, 'cause you sail to Arinas from there. gonk Hermosa's on the eastern shore, and I got my directions switched. ^^;; ))
Thatz almost laughed, putting up a hand in protest. "I wasn't expecting to go off by myself. Things aren't the same anymore." His smile twisted again, then relaxed. "But I'm not gonna make you send me anywhere. Just do whatever will best help the country."
One thing, Thatz decided, at least he wasn't stuck in Ruwalk's position of overseeing the vast country during this time of war.

"I know, and I try. But having a strong patrol and ready defense at the front might give us a good start, so I am thinking about what would be best," the officer smiled. He wouldn't promise anyone a vacation even as a joke, it would be a cruel joke with their current situation.
"I'm just not sure how soon I should send people out. But whenever it is, I'm sure it's going to be too soon and at an inconvenient time." He said ruefully.

Thatz laughed, the sound almost too loud with the setting.
"You're right," he said. His voice was calm again, though ending on an upbeat. "That's exactly what I was thinking." Shaking his head, Thatz ran a hand through his hair and turned to more directly face the Officer.
"Remember when I first got here? You had to chase all three of us down all day long. I'd be trying to hide somewhere, Rath'd be craving his demon-hunting, and Rune was just trying to keep us in line." His eyes softened at the memory. "I didn't know you well then. What was it like for you?"
He paused for a beat, then clarified. "The peace, that is."

Ruwalk was by now leaning on the thick railing, arms lying on the stone and hair wipping around his head somewhat in the wind. Turning his head to meet Thats's gaze he smiled. "The time of peace was wonderful," he confessed with a slightly blissful touch to his expression. "You three sure livened up the place, make no mistake, but it was in a good way. You kept is up and about but it was still better than other times."
The officer laughed lighthearted. Thinking back to that time made him think about how long time it had been since then... Damn, they were getting old, not like they had passed their prime time, so to speak... Dragons had such long lives. "Time goes on, but so will we." The Yellow Officer straighted up and looked out over the horizon. "We will not loose this war." His eyes were calm but the mouth was set with determition. No one of those who had died for the dragons' cause were going to bein vain.
"Don't expect it to be long, Thats. Got any fighters in mind that you would like to have along, seeing as you'll be acting as the commanding officer over that group? If not, I'll pick some," Ruwalk said with a smile to the knight.

Thatz was startled out of his daydream by Ruwalk's determined tone.
"Uh," he counted on his fingers briefly, "I don't care all that much, but send that guy with the weird black hair. He's good." No one, before or after Alfeegi, had ever been ble to remember all of the Fighters' names.

Ruwalk let out a low chuckle at that. "With the weird hair? Ok. I'll try to find you some that can make a good team. I'm thinking three or four fighters, because when the attack do start you need one to leave to report back." In his mind, the officer was going over possible names.

Thatz shrugged, mind starting to wander again. "I'm not very particular. I get along with all of them."
This was, by and large, correct. He had learned early on to make friends with them through gambling and being seen as a co-conspiritor against Alfeegi's strict rules. Not that he had had any real reason to want to gain their trust. For a long time Thatz had simply gotten on better with the Fighters than with his fellow Knights. They had had more in common.
The money he would tend to win off them did help, though.
That gave him an idea.
"How long do you think I would be gone? A week? Could you send me with some of the guys who've been here for a while? Since," he paused, thinking back, "I got sent off with Kitchel I haven't seen much of them. I'd like to catch up." He grinned, an old scheming flicker rekindling in his green eyes. "Maybe bring a set of cards for around the campfire. The Game of Life requires too much set up for the sort of travel we'd be doing..."

"Sure I could," Ruwalk replied then trailed off and blinked surprised at Thats as the other continued. With a small "heh", the officer grinned. So obviously Thats, he should have known. "Well... we would like to keep up the patroling until we know if there will be an attack or not, which it probably will."
Then the officer turned a bit more serious again. "But Thats... you're allowed that deck of cards as long as you do not gamble with any of the money I'm giving you for the food or supplies that you can buy down in the southern cities." After seemingly thinking for a second, Ruwalk added, "And do try to not make them completely broke."
Thinking about the 'older', if you could call them that, fighters made Ruwalk remember that most of the older members of the Dragon Clan, especially the fighters, had not yet fulfilled that one criteria that had been put down some half year after the war started... A necesarry criteria, the Yellow Officer reminded himself as he put a hand over his mouth and glanced out over the landscape. Was it even relevant to the so called 'old force', the brown haired dargon wondered.

"I know," Thatz agreed seriously, brushing his hair from his face. "That money won't get touched. And I will try. But, you know, if someone insists on throwing in his entire savings, I can't do much to stop him." He paused, considering the outcome. "I'll probably give some of it back upon reaching one of the towns, though. I'm not totally heartless."
He muttered something under his breath, then clasped his hands behind his back, staring fondly over the landscape once more. "I'd almost forgotten how nice the view is up here."

"Just don't go too hard on them," Ruwalk smiled at the other. "They're going to need it... you all will sooner or later," he said as he turned to look out over the view, he had to go back in soon and continue his work. And pick out the fighters and inform them.

Thatz shot a brief glance at the Officer, noticing his distraction. "Yeah, I suppose so." His words were short as well as he tried to backtrack through their conversation.
"Well, I guess you have things to do?" Thatz asked, stepping back from the wall finally. "I should go and train, or something." He shrugged, taking in the view with one last sweeping glance.

"Yes," Ruwalk smiled then laughed. "If Alfeegi had still been around I wouldn't have been standing here even half this time," he joked before straightening up. "Well, anyway... there are papers to be taken care of and other things, I do not wish to sit up too late this evening. I'll see you later, Thats." The officer gave the other a light wave of the hand before beginning his track down the wall to get back inside the castle.

Thatz waited until Ruwalk had passed out of side down the stairs before following at a more sedate pace, thumbs hooked into the belt loops of his pants. Making his way with ease through the castle halls, he wavered between two staircases before pulling Earth back into the gap between dimensions and taking the stairs that rose once more.
It wasn't long before the Knight was pushing open the thick wooden doors to his private chambers. He stood in the wide frame for a moment, blinking in the bright light filtering in through the drawn curtains before pulling the doors closed behind him. There'd be time to practice later.
((Okay, he's out of the way. Nadil! Be a dear and explain to people what's going to have to happen. XD;;;;;; ))
