"Lucky. It was just me and my dad and he didn't have that great of a job. So the extra twenties usually went to pay the grocery bill."
"Two to one, now," he announced, moving away from that subject. "So you were an artist back in the US?" He set the puck down and knocked it toward him.

"Oh? Um...Yeah, I was..." Marshall said, trying to remain cheerful, "I was an animator. Y'know, for cartoons and stuff? It was kind of fun...Nah, actually, it was really fun." Marshall said, sending the puck flying back. Hell if he was going to lose!
"Okay, so I gotta ask...What are you being turned into, exactly? Some sort of dog?"

"It sounds like it was fun," Lucas smiled, fanged teeth showing. "I wish I could have had a job like that." Lucas also did not want to lose and tried to defend his goal as best he could while talking and making sure to keep his handicap in mind.
"Yeah, some sort of canine. A dhole, to be specific. I'd never heard of it either. 'A gift' from Dr. Duvert." Lucas supressed a growl.

"Really? Huh. 'Cause to be honest, its kinda cool lookin'. Never seen an orange wolf before. I mean, it still sucks and all, but hey, at least you came out lookin' bad-a**, eh? I look like a friggin' puff ball." Marshall said, grumbling at the injustice of it all. How dare every one look more bad-a** than him!

"I'm not orange. It's more...rust colored. Badass? I just look threatening. At least you don't have to worry about that." He didn't even bother touching on the instincts. While Marshall was jealous of Lucas, Lucas was jealous of Gaius. A horse was a strong creature and one that wasn't threatening or made people nervous. Though, the changes and troubles he'd seen Gaius go through did not make him completely envious. He couldn't imagine having hoofed hands.

"Yeah, instead of threatening I look like a friggin' joke...And, y'know, at least you still got fingers..." Marshall sighed as he hit the puck back towards the 'rust colored' Lucas. While Lucas wondered how having hoofs was like, Marshall was learning to live with flippers. And even though his eyes and hair were still the same, his reflection was still some thing he dreaded.

It was then he got a better look at his company's hands. Lucas couldn't argue. He still had fingers. Or what was left of them. He would have made the remark that they were all jokes, but decided against it.
"The girls will think you're cute." It was an attempt to lighten the mood.

"...Ya really think so?" Marshall said sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck, leaving his goal unprotected.
"HOSHIT-!" score one for the Dhole!

"Of course. Have you ever heard a girl say they didn't think penguins were cute?"
At the second point, Lucas gave his opponent a toothy grin. "Two to one, now."

"No fair time out I wasn't ready MULLIGAN!" Marshall squawked, not really making sense but obviously not amused by the fact that he was losing by a single point. Perhaps the penguin was a bit more competitive than he'd like to admit.

"No time out. No redo." Lucas chuckled, tail wagging behind him. "But just so you know, I didn't say that because I knew it would distract you. That was a lucky break."

"Erg...THIS WILL NOT GO UN-NOTED! I will defeat you, you...Bronze-Colored Orange Menace! YOU'LL GO DOWN FASTER THAN THE DEATH STAR!" Marshall said, showing how geeky and how competitive one penguin can get with little provocation.
An hour passed, and the game was finished. Winner, by a whopping five points? Lucas.
"No! Hacksors! Does not compute!" Marshall complained, flailing his flippers because of his humiliating defeat.

Lucas couldn't keep himself from laughing at the penguin-man's strange tantrum. "Nope! I won fair and square." He set the paddle down and grinned down at Marshall as he fought down the laughter. "It was a good game, though. Thanks."
It had been the break he needed. He felt much better and was glad that Marshall had shown up.

"Erg...If you think for one second that I'm going to take this victory lyin' down, yer wrong! I'll go and um...Train! Like in Ranma or Kill Bill or some thin'! And then I'll come back and BEAT YOU DOWN! Bwahahahaha!"
Apparently losing at air hokey had made the penguin lose his little birdy mind...Tragic.
"But...Yeah. Good game, Lucas." Marshall said with a kind beak-smile.

Lucas' tail wagged. "Then do that. Another game sometime sounds fun. Train and beat me."
He looked out the window. "As much as I'd like to stick around, I need to go check on some dogs that are probably tearing up my duplex about now." He moved toward the door holding up a paw. "See you later, Marshall. Thanks again."
