Candidate Tarnaria

In seemingly the blink of an eye, the fighting had ceased, and the brown lay broken and - To Tarnaria's eyes - Dying. She felt her stomach turn, feeling more troubled by the fighting between the hatchlings, even as the brown Impressed.

It seemed he would see a fight with Thread yet.

She drew a deep breath, looking away and watching one of the blues Impress, as well as the volatile bronze. Perhaps now, things would calm down? She hoped so. Tarnaria hugged herself a bit, feeling more at ease for the moment.

mel - she/her

Oh, so that's what Impression looked like. Nice. Mel proved polite for once and didn't immediately dig into Kaiator for being such a sap. (That would come later. He was crying for Faranth's sake, this was golden.) And he looked...genuinely happy when he turned to them. Meanwhile, a glance at Haveli told her she was being weird about something. Rock and a hard place, this one.

"Sure thing, dude, I'll get right on that," she said with a thumbs up, because she was Mel, and Mel didn't do sap and avoided awkward like the plague. Only good vibes here, thanks. "We'll see ya later. 'Grats!"

She then obliged Haveli and helped steady her as they tended to the wound. "These things usually this rowdy?" she asked. She wasn't that iffy about blood, but she noticed the same thing Haveli did: a few inches up and...The healers came in then, one nudging her to let go so they could transport Haveli to the tents, and Mel herself looked over before she assured them many times she was fine, the blue had barely scratched her. Off and away, said friendly blue Impressed as well, and...

Mel found herself alone, somehow. Hrm. This wasn't ideal.

orri - he/him

"One," he agreed quietly, and then, "two," and then "three." A couple of mauled humans, one very injured dragon, and not even halfway through the Hatching. Orri's heart went out to them as he stood there, helpless, stopped in anticipation when Santa bronze sniffed at Kahbrohm, and then staggered back to its usual pace afterwards. Buckets Between, his heart had been doing a large number of things lately...

"Santa was very polite. I think with that one out, and more finding Theirs," he said, pointing out the bronze as he nuzzled at one of the girls, "things will go more smoothly." Hopefully. He was trying not to get attached like he had at previous hatchings, but it was so hard not to. Dragons left prints on the mind easier than you did in the mud.

He subtly wiped his hands on his robes of cold sweat.

dhawsn - he/him

The blue backed off, and Dhawsn swooped in. His body protested it, and he felt a wave of lightheadedness hit him briefly when he swung up, Miela in his arms. "I gotcha," he said for the third time. "C'mon..."

Thankfully, they didn't have to make it far before the healers came to them and took them in. He wasn't so hurt that he didn't hear one calling him an idiot for acting out. Now there were two candidates to take care of instead of one. Yeah. Pretty stupid, he supposed, in retrospect. That's why not acting at all, or running away, was preferable. Oops.

"M'fine," he said as they parted him from Miela, even as he bled the robes pink. "Jus' make sure she's good for me?" He gave the healer tending to her a pleading look, as if he wouldn't do that already without some coercion. "Girl shouldn' die fer that, y'know, it's--Ow." The solution put on his wounds ached like a b***h. "Sawry fer pretendin' t'be a hero n' all that, I jus'..." He sighed. To Miela, he asked, "Hun, you hear me? Yer gonna be okay, promise."

Fivudal - Healer

Fivudal grimaced as he waited, unable to do anything but watch and hope that the blue would lose interest eventually and that the Candidate laying on the sands wouldn’t bleed out before he got to her. Thankfully Ding Dong Bell blue seemed to find satisfaction in his work as he finally turned away, talons stained red.

Jogging over to the Candidates, Fivudal was met a few paces from the group by Dhawsn who had managed to scoop Miela up. He wished he hadn’t so he could assess the damage first - moving an injured person could make things far worse - but there wasn’t much to be done about that now.

A few other healers joined him as Fivudal took Miela from Dhawsn, tending to the less sliced up but still bleeding too much Candidate. He let another healer chide him for his actions but Fivudal knew from experience that he’d get an earful from the Candidatemaster if he didn’t Impress.

“I’ll do my best,” he promised the young man, sincere in his words. “If you can manage, get back out there once the bleeding stops.” Then he carried Miela further off the main area of the sands, bringing her to the relative safety of the healer’s area. He knew he needed to work quickly and find the worst of the wounds, but from what he could see that wouldn’t be hard in locating. Her face was a mess from the sharp talons.

“Right. Miela, is it? Stay with me, please. I’ve got something for the pain, hold tight.” He got to work immediately, a steady and practiced hand mopping up blood and stitching skin back together. She may have scars but they would be impeccably healed, he would ensure.

Miela

Well, call her a fool if one must, but somewhere in the dark, currently unreachable parts of her brain, the girl knew she'd been correct in her assessment. She would allow that to come later, that small little victory, but Miela was awash in pain and her mind wouldn't allow for much in the way of thought or understanding at the moment. It took all her mental power just to acknowledge that someone had lifted her up off the blood soaked sands and her eye opened to peer up at Dhawsn in a haze. Only able to see his body, she couldn't be certain that Tuelarua and Rahmsii had made it either, but then it seemed the monster had only seen fit to maul her the most because of her slight. So maybe they had been fine, she couldn't tell.

Lips sliced wide she couldn't speak as if to respond to the blue or to Dhawsn's carrying her to the healer who's hand she suddenly found herself placed in. Words were being spoken around her head but she couldn't identify them and truly in that moment, she didn't care what they were talking about. Surely it was something close to healers jargon. So her hand clung onto the steadily growing pinker robes of the large giant who she'd only just met, who she'd had terrible thoughts about that had come true, who she'd tried to get to leave along with the others. It was a mindless motion, but as her hands were pried off Miela uttered something close to a whimper and closed her remaining eye.

Once again someone said something to her, this time she recognized her name in the haze and struggled to open her eye up only to see hands right above it. Struggling, she nodded her head to the question of her name and surrendered herself to the stitches, her whole face numb from... something. With the worst of the pain ebbed away to a vicious throbbing, though blood was still flowing from her face and chest and arms and shoulders and... Miela was fairly certain there was no blood left in her body and a ludicrous bubble of laughter pulled from her without her permission.

Shock was an amazing drug, far better than what the healers even used and her own body made it, but she wasn't fully coherent at the moment because of it and that had to go away. These thoughts were there, in a jumbled up mess as all her thoughts were and she made as if to swipe them away physically. They didn't go away but they did align themselves a little better with each passing moment in time.

Verica

Heart skipping a tiny little beat, she watched with sheer joy on her face as the Holly blue impressed to their chosen person, not an ounce of jealousy within her heart. That had been such a wonderful egg to talk to, even for the brief moment she had contact with it and she could tell it's own excitement as well. May the blue and it's rider find all the happiness that they could, she wished all the newly impressed male dragons that, but they were no longer of concern to her once they were, other than to wish them well. No, her eyes roamed from green hide to the blue that was actually hiding near it's mother. Veri sent a small little thought of welcome to the baby blue that seemed so afraid and glanced among his siblings before glancing at her own.

-Any ideas?- she spoke with her hands in a flash of movement she knew others couldn't make out. If Vera had any thoughts on the maul happy blue that seemed quite content now, or any of the others she was curious for certain. This was one thing they couldn't share in after all, a bond to a dragon didn't work for twins. Which of them might impress and which might not?

Oh it had to be together. It might not happen but she could wish for it.

Liniyah

She watched everything quietly from the side as more and more dragonets spilled out onto the sands. The bronze and brown pair had fought fiercely before finally separating and finding Theirs--she only hoped the brown would be alright. The ichor seeping from his wounds... Oh, but that was Ilzerin running over... was that brown... his? She hoped so... The first hatched blue found His as well, but oh, oh, oh... the Ding Dong blue seemed to be holding quite a grudge, and Liniyah gasped quietly as he savaged a young girl without hesitation or remorse.

The Snowman blue still didn't seem inclined to move, and her heart went out to the young hatchling. Poor thing... Oh, but the next bronze seemed much less haughty than his brother!

--

Lauthisen

"A little," He said with a wry sort of smirk, but he stopped talking to better watch the semi-controlled chaos on the sands. The hatchling fight broke off before either dragonet was dead, but the brown seemed to be in rough shape. What really drew his eye was the blue that charged forth from the shell to savage a Candidate--one of the eggs that had been so upset at the Hatching. Had that been the girl to set it off? Once he'd raked her brutally with his claws, he seemed to find the matter settled--and in truth, Lauthisen couldn't blame him. The girl didn't appear to be dead. Maybe a physical reminder of the importance of guarding her thoughts and emotions would sink in better.

"Seems he got that out of his system." Lauthisen said, giving a slight shake of his head. "She really ticked him off, I guess."

Dehka

He winced slightly when Dorok mentioned the comparison between the bronze and Kahbrohm, but he didn't deny it. Kahbrohm had many good qualities... but arrogance was definitely one of them. As the two dragons continued to fight, his fists were clenched with worry--and it looked as though the brown had been pretty badly injured.... Both dragons seemed to find Theirs shortly after, as did the first blue that hatched. Dehka's heart leapt into his throat as a big blue hatched and charged down a young girl. Before he could even think to run for her, the healers were there, and all he could do was stare hopelessly.

When the newly hatched bronze paused to sniff Kahbrohm, Dehka found himself holding his breath. Had he...? No, no, the bronze was moving on, and the young man let out a quiet, disappointed breath. "I hope so," He murmured, looking at both Orri and Dorok with an uneasy expression. "I hope she's okay...."

Chakuri

"We do!" She chimed in, giving Divisti another grin. "I'm Chakuri, and he's Kahbrohm. It's nice to meet you!" Oh... but she couldn't help but feel a little disappointed for her friend's sake when both the bronze and brown found Theirs, and neither of them were Kah. The brown wasn't looking so good though... That made her bite her lip with worry. That worry threatened to deepen into panic as another blue hatched and promptly went after a girl on the sands who looked only a little younger than her, and her blood was so bright against the sands...

Chakuri had gone pale but held her ground, eventually tearing her eyes away. The Healers were there. They would save her. They had to save her.

Oranie

Oh.

Oranie looked away from the sudden violence done to both dragonet and human,squeezing Elibrie's hand tightly. Hearing the stories was one thing, but this... She allowed Juhvek's voice to pull her out of her horror, letting her dark eyes wander to where the poor blue still seemed petrified by fear. Grateful for a task, she promptly seized it, thinking to the small Snowman hatchling. We're all so glad to meet you. Please don't be scared.

Alumet and Gold Zenobiath

The gold offered her beloved Snowman a croon, nuzzling his tiny blue body. Oh, it hurt her to think he was so lost. Those white eyes frightened her, worried her. She did not want to lose one of her children. Another soft croon, like a song, and she gently nosed him, trying to offer him all the dearest love and comfort. The fighting is indeed over, my dearest love. All will be well, and Yours is waiting. You need only tell me when you are ready. Until then, I am here for you. My attentions are yours, and you deserve every moment of them, just as the rest of your siblings. You could NEVER waste your mother's time. As I have loved you in the egg, I love you now.

Her other blue son's apology got a brush of amusement, Ding Dong was offered the feeling of acceptance and understanding, You did what you felt right, my dear son. I do not blame you, even in the slightest.

Candidate Rhys - HR - He/Him

Rhys watched those still on the sands with intrigue, making mental notes of everything that was going on. Every hide, every hatch. They were all so lovely. Whatever was going to happen, Rhys was in love with every one. To Snowman, he sent a sense of love and reassurance. Everything would be perfectly alright.

Candidate Eyriean - They/Them

The white eyes of Snowman worried the young person, their eyes trained on it with a sense of love and worry. Their heart went out to it. After all, they understood all too well what it was like to feel so out of place. They did too, all the time.

Kyzier - Ruunan
If Kyzier was talking a lot, they didn't seem to be aware of it. Or perhaps they wanted to fill the silence, give Ruunan something concrete to grasp onto, something other than the stressful thoughts that seemed to linger beneath his words. They oozed confidence--and hoped that Ruunan would find it within himself, too.

Holly Blue hatched next, and Kyzier offered thoughts of encouragement. Don't worry! There's no shame in not being first! Sure, it was nice to be first, but what really mattered was being best, right? The blue was adorable, though, flailing around and trying to get his feet in order. Even if he crashed into a few candidates, bringing some down with him.

A bronze hatched next. Kyzier would love any dragon, but bronzes were big, and at this Weyr in particular, they meant something. Sure, there were no records of a nonbinary individual Impressing gold or bronze, but...they could very well be first! Still, this bronze seemed to antagonize his brother, and the conflict grew. As more eggs hatched, the bronze and brown began to fight, causing stress in some siblings.

When the bronze began speaking to--and then fighting with--his brother, Ruunan moved closer to them. They took the chance to scoot forward a little, just in case. Not that they would ever think of fighting a baby dragon--the thought never crossed their mind! No thought crossed their mind, in fact, beyond must protect this boy. Somehow. The how was less important.

"She's lovely," Kyzier agreed, looking at the green. They were on alert, though--no amount of optimism, no amount of confidence, would let them lose focus. Not when there was a chance of injury, or of upsetting dragons. "They're all so wonderful. I hope they don't injure each other or anyone else more, but...they have so much potential!" No matter their hatchling actions, they would all go far, of that Kyzier was certain.

As Holly Blue approached, however, Kyzier shifted out of the way, as did Ruunan. Unfortunately, the lad hadn't noticed Holly Blue early enough, and fell over. Kyzier offered a hand to help him up, should he accept it, as they grinned. "There's a lot going on! Just be careful, alright?"

Kyzier watched as a blue hatched--was that the egg that had gotten so upset? They couldn't remember. Ding Dong Blue knew exactly what he wanted, and what he wanted was blood. Kyzier watched as a candidate was mauled, wincing at what must have been pain. Poor thing...But the emotions of the dragonet swept them up, no matter how they tried to avoid them.

"Sometimes, this happens, doesn't it?" Kyzier couldn't deny that. "But they'll be okay. We'll be okay. It's a risk, isn't it, but...we'll be safe. Promise." Could they keep that promise? They sure thought they could. "And hey! I bet the worst is done, right?" Famous last words, maybe, but they had to reassure Ruunan, who seemed to be quite upset. Not that Kyzier wasn't affected--but they had to stay strong.

The candidate was alive; the brown and bronze were alive; no one had died. They would all be okay, and get the healing they needed. Kyzier was sure about that. The world couldn't be so dangerous and cruel...right? Their heart lurched for the brown, as he Impressed, so weak, so injured. Surely...he wouldn't leave his new rider dragonless? Their eyes softened with concern, as the truth of what had happened hit them. So much violence, so much blood...

But no one could get hurt, right? They believed so strongly that everyone would be okay. As long as no one was gone, though, they supposed it was okay...they pushed thoughts of the last hatching's death from their mind, refusing to think of that.

Holly Blue, Lump of Coal, and Starry Night had all Impressed. They'd had some hope for themselves with every dragon, of course, but each had been admired in their own way. Two, for strength of will, and one for being adorable and having so much SPIRIT!

Elibrie - she/her

With Juhvek directing their attention to another blue, Elibrie decided that it was safe to peek. While she'd had her eyes averted, the fight between brown and bronze had ended, the clumsy but enthusiastic blue had Impressed as well, another bronze was making his rounds, and the offended blue had finished seeing to his revenge. Elibrie was afraid to know his target's fate, and had to put it out of her mind. Welcoming thoughts. Calming thoughts. She summoned up a smile - appearances did matter, after all - and tried to return mentally to the place she'd been when Starry Night had first revealed himself.

The blue from the Snowman Egg was precious, without a doubt, and her heart went out to him. "I hope he'll be okay..."

I'm sure Yours is here for you, whenever you're ready. And would no doubt rush to his side, if only they knew...but until then, at least he had his mother.

Helane was relieved when the brown and bronze stopped fighting, and went off to Impress, she did worry about the brown though, he looked pretty badly hurt even if you didn't look at the trail of ichor behind him. She watched as a blue impressed too, she couldn't get down hearted, there were still dragons out there, hatched and unhatched that could look towards her. That raging blue was a bit scary though... she wondered who would be able to take him on.

~~~~~~
Bekah held back a squeak of fright when the bronze and brown hatchlings started to fight in earnest, drawing ichor, watching the bronze tear a chunk of flesh away from the brown, her stomach lurched as she saw the trail of green soaking the sands in his wake as he crawled, thankfully the bronze impressed, followed shortly by the brown but she was worried the latter wouldn't make it, she hoped his rider was strong enough to keep him from going between at least, her eyes followed as the brown's rider took him to the dragon healers "Please be ok" she whispered silently in his direction, turning her attention to the Healing supplies and anyone who might need her help.
Gwyn
Seeing the beautiful brown lying on the Sands, injured so badly that he could barely move, Gwyn again almost moved to help... but he Impressed first. Good, now he would be seen to, by hands more experienced in the matter than her own. She knew that if she'd gone to him, there was little that she could have offered other than perhaps a moment's comfort, and yelling for someone to get over there to help him... but it was surely better than just standing there, watching his ichor flow!
Turning her attention back to the blue who lingered near his mama, Gwyn wondered if he'd be alright. He had hatched while his brothers had been fighting, and now seemed frightened of possibly facing a confrontation himself. She didn't think it likely, but newly hatched as he was the blue probably wouldn't know this.
Jemaselle - Jemi - She/Her/Hers - High Reaches
"Not yet, little thing keeps slipping back into the shell." Jemi looked over the egg and back to the fight and ahh, about time they got to it. "Well, look at that, congrats." She said simply to Ilzerin not at all offended as he left.
Wasn't the first time or last time that had happened and he had a bond mate to take care of now. "Ahh, look like a little bronze. Handsome fellow and certainly rather sweet."
Ahh, the little clumsy blue had impressed. Good.
Alosha and Niika -- Bet Tracking
Whren - High reaches- He/Him/His
Ooh, the rage of the hatching hit him, which one? and he hadn't seen who had got mauled but he knew there was blood on the sands now. It hadn't been one of the pairs that had tussled on the sands who were now impressing, thankfully... it had been a different one.
He glanced around him, thoughtfully and paused considering the woman next to him. Not Jemi but sort of the same wildness in her looks but not as confident. Tall though. "I was rather occupied with the fighting pair... I'm sorry I didn't see you till now."
He glanced to the side catching the relax tall form of Jemi farther away and she was fine, everything was fine. "You.. aren't from this Weyr." He finally said, catching that she was a stranger now he was less worry. "First hatching?"
