Stage 2: Rocky Trench

You find your way into a deep trench, small tunnels offshoot on either side. You can't see the bottom...

Roll 1d4

1 - You make your way back up to the surface for a quick breather before heading back down. +2 Breath
2 - You find a drop-off leading deeper and spy a cave in the distance! Move on to the next round!
3 - Something glinting catches your eye...it's an ancient coin! +2 score
4 - You round a corner and come face to face with a giant sea turtle! It startles you, but leaves you in awe. -2 Breath +3 score

Berith decided, after running into what she assumed to be the same turtle from earlier, that she would turn back to the main tunnel and try another path. Hopefully she would actually pick a different one this time! As she carefully swam through the water (let's face it, she spent most of her time on land, swimming was a foreign thing to her), the mare picked another pathway and followed it, marveling at whatever awe inspiring thing caught her eye. She came to a rather familiar corner, but decided to think nothing of it and rounded it, only to let out a small string of bubbles as the mare nearly ran into the giant sea turtle... again! While it was really an amazing creature -- and who would be able to say they saw a giant sea turtle three times, really now? -- Berith couldn't help but wonder if there was anything else down in these tunnels she could find.

After running into that turtle so many times, and being startle by it each time, Berith couldn't help but feel her lungs tighten a little in a cry for air. So she decided she would surface for air and come back down, which was exactly what she did. She was sure she would find something great underneath the water.

Although she had just surfaced for air, Berith still felt like she could have taken a deep breath. She did plan on being down under the water for a good while after all, so it didn't hurt to try and be prepared. The mare swam back up to the surface and took a large gulp of air before swimming back down into the trench.

Perhaps running into the turtle three times had been a sign of good luck! After diving back into the water, Berith spotted a drop-off and a cave a little further off. The turtle must have been a sign... or maybe she had just needed to get some air to think a little more clearly, but she was putting her faith in the turtle and its many appearances.

You approach the cave described in the rumors. Having found no sight of the village they spoke of, you wonder if you're even in the right place. Well...worth a look around...

1 - You peer into a small tunnel and suddenly, out comes a school of fish! It spooks you pretty bad. -2 Breath
2 - You wander some ancient ruins just inside cave, and find a small statuette that's fairly intact! +3 Score
3 - You find an air pocket within the cave! +4 Breath
4 - Uh oh! You run into a not-so-friendly shark! ...Or you hope it's just a shark... You hustle to get away, without looking back! -4 Breath
5 - You find an air vent and play around with the bubbles for a moment before moving on! +1 Score +2 Breath
6 - You spy the sacrificial altar! *shudder* You think you've gone far enough as you start to hear something spooky, much deeper inside. +10 Score + Adventure Complete!

After swimming a little further out into the deeper waters in hopes of discovering what was in the mysterious cave she had spotted, Berith saw something swimming towards her... something not very friendly if she remembered what she had been taught about aquatic animals correctly. The mare quickly swam away without a second glance, her lungs burning at the extra effort she had put in to get away from the creature.

Oh, ohhhhhhhh! Another shiny thing! Nahuel had a feeling that Roxanne would love this one, so he flailed a bit before finally managing to grab it. At the last minute, he remembered not to grin with teeth so as to not swallow a mouthful of seawater... ew.

After getting some distance away, the mare decided it was time to turn back and see if she could get to the cave again. She was just so curious as to what could be in it! Sure there were caves on land, but an underwater cave was probably so much more fun! As Berith swam back to the cave, she spotted the shark again and quickly turned away. Maybe she should have waited a little longer before going back... With her lungs screaming for air, Berith quickly swam back up to the surface with a gasp and headed towards the shore. Maybe one day she'd try again, but, for now, she needed to take a break.

Whooooooa, was that..? That was amazing! Nahuel tittered in silent awe as the seaturtle swam past him, fighting the urge to beseech it to stay a while and play... he didn't have unlimited air, after all.

She was on her own now. Yesterday, Lucy Adair and Lluvia had encountered a Soquili that told of an underwater village that made sacrifices to a frightening and terrible denizen. Although Lucy preferred studying insects, she was intrigued by the Soquili's tale. After much discussion, she and Lluvia had set off towards the water where this village could supposedly be found. They had reached the shallows and were wading in it when Lucy discovered a tunnel that opened into a trench. She turned to Lluvia whose eyebrows were knitted up in concern. "We should turn back." Turn back? Lucy thought. They had come so far. Stubbornly, Lucy shook her head, sucked in a large breath and went under the water and into the tunnel. I hope Lluvia can one day forgive me for this. Lucy thought.

Oh man, it was getting rough without breathing down here... he could just duck away for a breath and not miss anything, right? Nahuel reluctantly pushed off the bottom and surfaced for a short breath before diving downwards again, hoping to see some more neat stuff.
