Cassy deduced from a young age that her imbuing was done on an envious whim, her father Cherry having felt scorned when his love interest imbued with another. Cassy was a poor attempt at revenge - Jayden, Cherry's lover, hardly even paid attention to Cherry's vengeful impulse. While the chomp wasn't neglectful of their child, it was obvious he regretted taking on the responsibility of another freshling, having already been looking after Jayden's child Buddy. Cassy was mildly angry at first that her father seemed to spend more time with Buddy than her, hoping that taking after the young boy would please his father, but it didn't take long for the hybrid to accept her father's folly and take control of her own life. She thrived off the independence and even began instructing her father around the 'house' - though it is better described as a run-down apartment.
As she grew old, Cassy began to loathe her home environment. She attributed it to Cherry's various addictions and swore to never even try any substance that affected her brain in the slightest. She began to take control of her household, instructing her father to never use substances in her presence and to clean up the messes he made. Always one wanting to please and be serving - even if the person telling him what to do was his own daughter - Cherry began to take better care of himself and the apartment, but even the young freshling couldn't convince him to spend less time with Jayden or in the club scene. Cassy was relieved when she was old enough to go the Academy, knowing she would excel in the environment and no longer have to live surrounded by her father's mistakes.
Cassy has taken an interest in behavioural analysis and seeing what motivates others, usually using that knowledge to then manipulate them into doing what she wishes. She doesn't see this as bad or cruel - after all, she knows best. Her mutations have never held her back in the slightest, and her sheer confidence in her appearance and herself seems to keep any potential bullies at bay.

cherry cassy's father who raised her, the hallowed struggles to dislike her father despite his many, many flaws - including his very limited parenting. cassy is almost grateful for his neglect, feeling that the independence it gave her is more of a benefit than a drawback. cassy hopes that as she gets older she'll be able to be a positive influence on her father and help him get his life together, beginning with leaving his casual lover jayden.

buddy the freshling cherry spends most of his time with, buddy is the son of jayden who has had a similar level of neglect as cassy. the two freshlings find solidarity in their upbringings and have formed a strong friendship. cassy hopes to maintain this friendship during all her years at the academy, although she finds it hard to let go of her domineering nature even around him.

basic information
name.nightshade nicknames.red gender.female race.goblin // demon // elf birthday.7th of september 2018 zodiac.spear orientation.bisexual occupation.personal trainer partner.none colour.#7c0000 song.ok go - obsession
Nightshade's entire childhood was within the Asphodel Academy. The result of two individuals donating their magic to create stones, the hybrid has never met either of their parents or any potential siblings. This never bothered her as a child as she knew of nothing more than the life she was given, being raised amongst countless others by a variety of caretakers. Nightshade grew to learn that it was important to obtain individualism when moving from teacher to teacher, knowing that herself was the only constant and stability in her life. Nightshade was naturally competitive and driven, and her caretakers encouraged her to use sport as an outlet for that - later she realised they probably feared her getting into fights or causing other trouble. By the time she was old enough to take proper classes with non-Academy raised children, the hybrid was obsessed with all kinds of sport and the satisfaction of being good at what she did; it was less about beating others, and more about beating herself and previous bests.
Nightshade didn't excel in her classes, much preferring any hands-on activities to theory based learning. Her teachers quickly realised the difficulty of trying to teach a child who was competitive and had ample amounts of drive but no interest in the topics they were presenting. Nightshade was oblivious to this difficulty she was creating and simply couldn't see a point to most of the content of her classes. Still, always the one to want to excel, she studied hard to do well in her assessment and achieve more than a mere passing grade, but her behaviour in the classes themselves barely improved throughout her schooling years. It's unsurprising that she chose to pursue the world of exercise once she graduated, quickly becoming a popular personal trainer at a downtown gym. Nightshade currently holds no ambitions beyond her current career, wanting to simply become the best version of herself she possibly can. Whether or not she will try to find more from life or seek out her real family is yet unconsidered.

name.pirau nicknames.haz gender.female race.hallowed baphomet // kumiho // elf birthday.6th of october 2018 zodiac.chalice orientation.asexual occupation.specialised botanist partner.none colour.#7c7e4d song.yabadum - mountain man
Pirau was awakened hastily in October by a troubled mother and dying father. Her father - a kumiho - had less than a month to live due to his illness, and her hybrid mother was desperate to have him see his child. Of course they had been warned to not awaken stones during the Hallows, but more and more children were being awoken with little more than extra fluff or eyes, something Pirau's parents were willing to risk. Unfortunately, their lack of caution was paid in full, as their child was awoken with a life-threatening mutation; she had plant spores filling her lungs, choking the life out of her. They first wished to simply kill the spores in Pirau's lungs, but after consulting many different magic-users and herbologists they came to the conclusion that it may have been a symbiotic relationship. Fearing for their child's life, her parents isolated her in a greenhouse, hoping being surrounded by other plants would allow those in her body to flourish, as who knew what would happen if they died.
Pirau's father passed away within three weeks of her awakening, but her mother always told her he died happily after seeing his daughter's face. This was little comfort to the mutant, who was kept away from any other children or outside influence. Her mother abandoned her career in marketing to study alchemy, hoping to find a way to cleanse Pirau's body without damaging her lungs in the process. Wanting to spend as much time with her otherwise-unsocialised daughter as possible, she practiced her alchemy in Pirau's greenhouse, including her as much as she could. The two formed a close relationship, and the mutant was grateful for her company. Over time she began to name all the plants in her greenhouse, talking to them and befriending them as only a child could. She was forbidden from attending the Asphodel Academy, of course; not only did she need to stay in the stable environment, her mother also feared what children would say about her other, visible mutations.
As Pirau neared teenagehood, she finally confronted her mother about her isolation; it was simply too much, and her active mind needed outside stimulation. Her mother understood, knowing that this decision was inevitable, and had been already seeking solutions. She presented Pirau with a plant in a glass box with a mask attached, and although rudimentary it would allow Pirau to phsyically carry the box with her and stay in her isolated environment. The hybrid delighted at the idea, grateful for any opportunity to explore the world. After dozens of successful trips to local parks and shops, she was finally allowed to attend Academy. While there were a few ignorant children who had hurtful things to say, most of the student body accepted the mutant and tried to help her adapt to this new world. As the years passed, Pirau tweaked her mask design, eventually crafting herself a backpack-type greenhouse attached to a gas mask, allowing her to keep her hands free. Of course, she wasn't able to talk often due to the muffling of her mask, but this hardly bothered her; she was more interested in learning than socialising.
It seemed somewhat fated for Pirau to attend Asterion after she graduated in order to study botany. Her obsession with plants was unavoidable due to her early childhood environment, and she wished to explore the world and discover new, unique plants. She did well in her classes and professors were often fascinated by her deep, personal connection with the subject matter. As part of her classes, she was often sent on field expeditions to take samples to study, and during this travelling she began to notice unsettling things. Pirau became particularly disturbed by the spreading of civilisation into local forests, and the negative effect magic and pollution had on nature. By the time she graduated Asterion, Pirau was bitter towards the world, having no interest in other races and simply wanting to preserve the environment. Much to her mother's dismay, she chose to leave the city and commission a small hut to be made in a distant forest. There she now lives, spending every day studying the local flora and discovering new, fascinating species.

name.penelope rune nicknames.granny gender.female race.hallowed sluagh birthday.6th of october 2018 zodiac.scepter orientation.bisexual occupation.crazy old sorceress partner.none colour.#7f5d72 song.swing republic - any old thing
Penelope Rune was destined for greatness the moment she was awakened. Her parents had been highly magically inclined individuals, prized among the sluagh of Above. Usually in such circumstances her parents would have become nobles or achieved even more prestigious positions of power... if it weren't for their interest in blood magic. They were adamant in their insistence that sluagh were born to use blood magic, that it ran in their, well, blood. The rest of their community shunned them, fearing the attention such magic would attract - the practising of blood magic had been forbidden in almost every modern society, after all. Despite this concern, the couple were never truly ostracised as it was difficult to ignore the helpfulness of their magic in an otherwise near-infertile community. Bitter at the ignorance of their fellow sluagh, the couple jumped at the offer the cherubs made to hide some stones Below. While the rest of the sluagh refused, the couple offered to accompany the cherubs on their journey to keep them safe and hidden - of course their true motive was to escape their insulated society and find one more welcoming of their... interests.
Once they arrived in Below, the couple were disappointed to learn that most of the nightmare civilisations were equally wary of blood magic, if not more so. They quickly abandoned the cherub entourage they had been accompanying and began to search for more open-minded groups. During their travels they imbued and awakened Penelope - both being batteries, it wasn't surprising that the young mutant showed signs of magic at infancy. They willingly awakened Penelope during the Hallows - along with a number of other stones they had imbued - in hopes that the mutations would provide their children with even more power. Only Penelope survived, yet they were still content with their decision. They raised Penelope during their travels, teaching her the importance of magic and power, always reinforcing that no avenue of research should be off-limits.
Despite years of travelling and trying to find like-minded communities, the couple were never satisfied. Eventually they simply made their way to Asphodel as most in Below seemed to; perhaps they couldn't find others that practised blood magic, but at least in a bustling city like Asphodel they could simply get lost amongst the crowds. Both Penelope's parents topped their careers within a few years thanks to their magical proficiency and confidence in themselves. Penelope was home-schooled, though by the time she was an adult her home had become a large mansion. Not only did her parents find an income in highly paid magic-based fields, they made money on the side providing services and potions to the parts of the city that were more... accommodating to their hobbies. Of course they included their only child whenever they could, cultivating a powerful sorceress with no perceived limits on magic. She was dangerous, but her refined and sophisticated lifestyle stopped her from causing any outright mayhem.
Of course, the isolation from other children and constant reinforcement of the importance of forbidden magic led to a rather unstable adult. Penelope didn't truly learn empathy or how to handle setbacks, as she was provided with anything she could ever want. What she truly wanted, inevitably, was more power. After years of her own experiments and tireless studies of the dark arts, Penelope developed a ritual that would give her the power to steal the life essence from those who had already departed from the physical plane - spirits. Such a powerful ritual required an equally powerful source, and she knew the two most powerful magic batteries in the city were in arm's reach. She didn't even employ subterfuge or manipulation, Penelope simply stated her intention to her parents. To her mild surprise, they agreed to partake in the ritual, though they had secretly decided to try to turn it on their daughter and instead use her as the battery, obtaining the power for themselves; what better use for the child they had raised? Surely together they had more willpower than her, in order to take control of the ritual.
They did not. Penelope sketched the markings and made the necessary sacrifices to begin the ritual, the three of them kneeling on their designated runes. Once the chanting had begun and the magic began to flow, the couple sprung their trap, trying to bend their daughter's will to their own. They were unprepared for what they faced, however; during their years of work in the city they had grown complacent, hardly striving to reach for grander knowledge. Unlike them, Penelope was forever on her guard and was confident her parents hadn't studied the same dark reaches she had - they hadn't noticed the true meaning of the runes they were sitting on that clearly defined who was the sorceress and who were the batteries. The ritual went off without a hitch, and her parents last moments were of nothing but pride in their ambitious, powerful daughter.
With the riches left by her parents and magical abilities to perform high-paying services if needed, Penelope had a life of ease laid out before her. She attended and graduated Grendel and Asterion simply because she could - the sluagh couldn't help but find the classes at Leviathan laughable and amateurish. She had a slew of lovers during her travels around Below, but none truly captivated her interest, none did she find inspiring. She always found herself drifting back to her family mansion until, eventually, she simply never left again. She passed her time with the dark arts and maintaining her estate, beginning to grow melancholy in her solitude. She began to regret sacrificing her family - the only other individuals who could come close to matching her interest and prowess in dark magic. Before she could do anything about it, Penelope grew into an old woman, letting her estate fall into a state of eerie decay. Rumours began to spread that her mansion was haunted - her parents had already been isolated from society, so few had ever stepped foot on their property to begin with. Penelope embraced the idea of being an evil old crone placing curses on those who passed by; it wasn't too far from the truth, after all. The sluagh has now settled gleefully into her new role, slowly opening up her home in order to employ delightful illusions to traumatise her guests. How delightful!
