Megan put a hand to her temple and released an exasperated sigh as she turned her eyes back to her radio. She was out of patience. She didn't ask for this. She was trying so, so hard to unsee it and everyone would ask her and it would come right back. It was exhausting and she was about to go off on everyone around her when 888 explained everything for her.
"I'm glad someone finally believes me," she muttered bitterly. She raised her voice to a more normal level, though, at the mention of thorns. At least, the mention of thorns from someone who hadn't been an enormous a** to her for reporting a casualty. It reminded her of the other messages from the tower. "Someone from outside is trying to air drop supplies to us, but an extra set was dropped tonight by mistake, so we're not likely to get any on Day 7. Be ready for that. The boxes aren't even that big. I found one and it had a bag of chips in it. Not rations or anything, just a stale bag of Lays. Nonetheless, keep an eye to the sky. You never know when a chopper will come through. Why they don't pause to pick up survivors is beyond me."

"It's as Eights says, unfortunately. Rebecca was attacked by an undying, unusually, outside the normal pattern. One with thorns, tore her in two. Nothing we do can stop them. We have to wait out the days till rescue."
Rich had to sit himself on a nearby barstool, eyes shadowed by the ridiculous mask he was wearing. Of course, casualties were a thing. They'd always existed, ever since the start. But...this was just something else. Becky, cleaved in two, by some sort of thorned undying.
Then Megan said something about an airdop, about the choppers not picking up survivors. So, someone out there did know what was going on inside Delta? And if so, why were they only giving out potato chips, and not offering actual aid? Why in the hell were they just being abandoned, left to fight this out, or die?
"Maybe that's why the emergency broadcast said not to contact the authorities." Rich's face alighted, suddenly standing up off the stool. "If it's like Megan says - that there are people with choppers droppin' things off but not pickin' anyone up, and the emergency broadcast I heard at the radio tower said we were just supposed to take shelter and not contact anyone - maybe this is some kind 'a set up?"
The obvious question went unasked. Set up for what?

There is something wrong with this area. In the center of it lies a humongous, pulsating thing. It isn't quite alive, shifting around, though tendrils seem to grow from it, almost rapidly, as if it is trying to become something else.

"What in the hell is that?" Megan seemed one of the first on the scene, alerted by the radio. She'd taken a wrong turn on her way here, but once she got her bearings she beelined for the bar and vaulted over the barricades. Alarms be damned, that thing looked like an undying mutant of some kind and it was sprouting stuff in their base. If those were thorns...
She wasted no time brandishing her fishing rod. Time to take it for a swing. She managed to whip at the tendrils before she was tossed off, stumbling back into one of the tables.

All Shard wanted to do after she woke up at the end of the highway was to make her way back to the Mall and (maybe) get a drink from the Winchester.
Now, a huge … thing... with wings and a barbed tail and a green eye was trying to trash what was left of the mall.
Shard pulled out her knife, looked at it, and wished for a chainsaw.
She shrugged and attacked the creature's body trying to avoid the tail... and managed to knick it before it smacked her back with a wing buffet.

Shard pulled herself back to her feet and once again wished for the chainsaw. She noticed other Mall 'folks' were pulling out various weapons and eyeing the thing... but hadn't committed to attack it yet.
“Don't try to attack it where I tried!” she yelled helpfully.
She looked over the thing again. Sadly, it didn't fit any Earthly taxonomy she could see. “Let's look for weak spots!” she shouted hopefully as she charged the beast's eye.
...a screech of pain and anger followed Shard's blow, but the backlash from the wing sent her careening across the floor and almost into the Winchester.
Shard had just enough time to say "HoLd My DrInK aNd WaTcH tHiS, folks..." before passing out...
