This meant trophies. Trophies meant power. Power meant glory. He was going to destroy this thing, with Rota's help. Obviously, he could destroy it himself, but it would probably take him all day, given how ridiculously tanky these things were. With Rota's help, they'd be done with this in just a minute or two. All Alyx had to do was keep his shield up and wait. Which he was getting pretty good at, given all the practice that he'd been getting. He looked back and saw tendrils of indiscernible tissue latch to the back half of its body, its wing casings and half its wings bursting into red shards. Once it pressed itself back together, more tendrils latched on to it and strapped it into place. From its vivisected wings came veins, and from those veins large, stringy claws were woven together and hardened. Its carapace became more barbed and the dead glaze over its compound eyes never faded as it roared defensively against the thing that killed it as it feebly attempted to turtle up. Rota shook his head as he ran to its back and slashed it in the exposed meaty part of its body that the wing shell used to hide. Now that it was angry it was impotently trying to attack him for the offense his blade caused. It was not doing that well. he was going to show it just how pitiful it really was. he stepped in front of Alyx's shield as it rushed the demon, his blade coated in black light, and he quickly swung upwards and then back down in quick succession, upending the beetle and then subsequently striking the delicate underbelly. it seemed to dislike that prospect a lot, but it seemed like it could do little to stop it. Intuition told him he could have been doing this the whole time, and he kinda kicked himself for that internally, but there was no time to waste. he maintained the black light on his blade and stabbed it in the soft underbelly into the ground, the aura slamming into the ground further. it sounded like he hit something very vulnerable because it convulsed rapidly and let out some very twisted shrieks as the impacts came one after the other. Takes two turns to flee 36-100: attack Alyx and Rota stepped in through the door of the next room, Alyx leading the way, and they came upon a small army of rats. These things were just starting to pop up, and they were gathering in numbers. That had to mean that they were getting close, right? If these things were supposed to be some sort of indicator of their progress toward the boss, then they should be damn near knocking on its door right about now. Alyx was filled with hope, and the thought that the rats might someday lead them to the boss room filled him with determination. They were going to make it through this. Hell, statistically, they were basically flipping a coin at this point, if Alyx was figuring right. They'd officially crossed the threshold of 50% probability that they would find the boss room. The chance of them not finding it was now theoretically lower than the chance of them finding it. There was just so much beauty in the world. Alyx recovered his footing and surveyed the battlefield over the lip of his shield. The resulting rats tried their damnedest to kill Alyx and that was just not okay to him. He had left himself open, though, and was off-balance when the two mini-rats switched tack and dived at him. He still managed to shake the first one off, but it hit him hard enough to move his shield back and out of the way, while the other mini-rat cut through Alyx' defense and landed a hit on him. He saw the symbol for poison flash by his healthbar to indicate that his resistance had taken effect, and, as he regained his footing, he noticed that glomguard had taken a hard enough hit that it was cracked. "Don't underestimate them. Their bite is toxic." If Alyx knew anything, it was that lots of little poison attacks added up to massive amounts of DPS. He couldn't let Rota take any hits during this fight. This poison was sure to be more potent than anything they'd seen on the outside of the dungeon.
