Alyx walked into the encampment, looking around as he did. As usual, the server population was not very high, which was to be expected. He was wearing his solo gear and had just been out practicing some of his lesser-used skills. He realized that he was short on bait, and he was completely out of preserving oil, so he decided to pick some up while he was taking his break. He went to the Trophy Hunter, and purchased just a handful of oils. He wanted to keep enough money on him to be able to manage when new systems were implemented. Housing and guilds were likely to cost some amount of money, and he didn't want to be caught with his pants down when the time came to jump on those features, however they were done.

Alyx decided that the money he'd gotten from Achan was expendable, though, having been an unexpected windfall, and, frankly, blood money. He, of course, had no real way of making sure it was the exact 1500 gil he'd received from killing that freak, but he liked to imagine that it was. He spent 500 gil on oils, and went to the Beastmaster, who reminded him of his pending quest to collect a Gloomweave Egg, and he purchased enough bait to keep him busy for a while.

Alright. He'd hit the second and delivered his dose of death far enough into its system that it'd be dealt with in a few seconds. It was almost pitiful as it cowered, trying to prevent Alyx from destroying it utterly. As the dying boar and the untouched boar got their s**t together, they charged the Gloomking and he stepped forward, placing his free hand on the fresh boar, springing forward and over it as he thrust his blade down. He decided that he'd give his all in this next attack, if for no other reason than to get some Arte Points back. Grasping the hilt of his sword with both hands, Alyx thrust down with all of his might.

Alyx' blade buried itself into the boar and tore its flesh as he vaulted over it, leaving a jagged wound behind. It was not quite enough to kill it as quickly as the others, so he'd have to attack it again. As he landed, he spun low, aiming a thrust at the third boar, hoping to finish it off and get going. He wasn't going to be able to get to the dungeon today: apparently they were starting a holiday event, and he wanted to go back and get in on that. The first boar panted and collapsed onto its face before glowing and shattering from the poison in his system. Alyx watched the second boar's health bar fall rapidly; it would be dead in a moment.

And that was that. After that thrust, the boar was dead. It might be able to rally for one last attack, if it tried really hard, but it would have to stop trying to run away first. Alyx took his blade and slashed it through the air as if he were cleaning the gore from the weapon. The boar was on its last legs, and Alyx was just going to let it die rather than wasting any further effort on it. He made sure to keep light on his toes, though, in case it decided to come back at him. He was already wondering how things were going to go concerning the event, and his mind was pretty decidedly elsewhere.

The boar did actually manage to pull itself together long enough to aim a charge at Alyx, but it was woefully inept, possibly due to the fact that more virtual poison was pumping through its virtual veins than virtual blood. He decided to try something complicated, and leaped forward and over the boar, turning a frontflip in the air and spinning around so that he was facing the animal when he landed. Miraculously, he pulled this off without a hitch and touched down effortlessly. Apparently, he was getting better at this 'dodging' thing. Maybe eventually it would be a viable alternative when he was fighting stronger mobs than the trash that he normally encountered.

Well, that had happened. The boar fell to its haunches and died a pitiful death. Alyx counted up his rewards, and he'd gotten really lucky. The main attractions were a pair of pants that Rota could probably make good use of, and a new OHSS arte that he could use to deal bleed damage. Not that he was that into bleed damage, but he did have a decent boar trophy, and that would bring his bleed up a bit. It was still only a sixth of what he could deal with a good , though. And poison really fit his motif a bit better than bleed. Although he could not deal poison damage to spiders.. So maybe this was a good alternative. Either way, he was apparently in a position to earn credit towards the Halloween event, and he'd gotten three pieces of . Well, he may as well keep going toward the dungeon, if he was earning credit for it already. He kept walking down the path toward the dungeon.

Alyx heard a thump that he hadn't heard in a little while. He turned his head to watch an absolutely massive creature stepping out of the trees into the clearing where Alyx stood. A bear that dwarfed other bears. He hadn't seen an animal this size since he'd fought with Abaddon when he was still just starting. Alyx was six feet tall, but he was still looking up at this thing. He took a breath and drew his blade, deciding that poison was the preferred tool here. He could stack enough in his first couple hits that he would almost be able to stand back and watch this poor thing die. All he had to do was keep moving. If Rota could fight a bear without getting hit, then Alyx figured that a good test of his evasion would be to do the same with a superbear.

Alyx had a moment of internal panic as the bear's eyes flashed and it began a lumbering, earth-shaking charge toward the moonlighting duelist. While there was a portion of Alyx that respected the massive amount of power that the bear was approaching him with, there was a part of him, just as equally represented at the summit of his consciousness, that really didn't want to get hit by that mountain of uncomfortably loose and patchy skin. Alyx planted his foot and faked left before diving right and rolling, aiming two thrusts at the meat of the bear's chest. Both strikes hit home, and the bear went thundering past with a brand-new purple health bar.

Another well-executed set of strikes. As the bear reared up to aim a swipe of its massive claws at the man, he ducked low and poked it twice in the ribs, just under the foreleg. With enough spider venom in its veins to bring down a regular bear, Alyx had to assume that it was going to start showing signs of slowing down soon. He'd already hit it for about half of its health, and the venom was going to deal a considerable amount of damage to what was left. He remembered way back when he'd actually felt fear at the prospect of facing this exact creature. Now he was just hoping that when it died, it would stand back up and give him another exquisite trophy.

Alyx was definitely not going to get anything near a 100% evasion rate here. This was his second time taking a glancing hit, but he hadn't taken any real damage. The bear's hit points were dropping at an astonishing rate, and he was just a few seconds away from dead. The Gloomking aimed a slash down at the outside of the bear's forearm. This strike picked him up enough AP to finish the bear off, and he just had to keep poking at him until he was out of this. Today was the day he made it into the dungeon. He'd get through the Dire Wolf and be on his way into the labyrinth. He'd still have to wait to fight the boss, but at least he'd know what it was like inside.

That was all it was going to take. The bear was done for, and all Alyx had to do was wait it out. There was something satisfying about watching a healthbar drop without any input from the player. He'd always loved damage over time, and just damage dealing in general. This moonlight hobby of his hearkened back to his days of DPS in that other game. He really wanted to test this new combat style out against an actual player. He could imagine how surprised they'd be when he started stacking poison on them like this. He sheathed his blade into its scabbard and prepared to dodge the bear if it decided to come at him.

The bear reared back and tried one more time to hit the Gloomking, but it swiped high as he ducked and stepped into the attack, darting under and past its attack. He wound up behind it as it staggered and fell forward onto its face, its forelegs tangled under its weight. The bear exhaled a heavy, shuddering breath and whimpered. Alyx looked at the animal and was struck with an odd sensation. This creature was suffering. He stepped closer to the bear and laid his hand on its shoulder. It wanted to respond, but it didn't have the energy. Alyx drew his skinning knife and buried it in the monster's brain stem. The bear stiffened, relaxed, and exploded in a shower of shards. It was strange that Alyx cared. Normally, he just enjoyed the kill. Maybe this one was just taking too long. He slipped his knife back into its sheathe, and looked toward the dungeon. He could see the Wolf from here.

Stonemason
Name: Forging a New... Forge

Objectives: 1 post of helping the Stonemason construct a forge.

You approach a man working with stones chiseled into bricks. He seems to be constructing something.

"Hello. Wondering what this monstrosity is, are you? Well, it's going to be a new forge for the Weaponsmith, when it gets done. Are you interested in learning how it's done? You can't just grab some rocks and pile them on top of each other. Come here, I'll show you."




Rota decided it was time to help this man. If he was going to be forging a lot in the blacksmith's shop, he would need to do one or both of two things. 1)do his part to make the forge better, and 2) learn how to make a forge so he didn't occupy it all day every day. With the holiday tents in town, he had far more incentive than before to take up his trade again(and he had fairly hefty motivation in the first place) it just needed some preparation was all. That said he listened to the man, and picked up a nearby spare trowel as per the mason's instructions. falling in line with the patterns he had detailed, he spread some mortar across the latest layer of stone. Rota then spread mortar on one side of the stone before he laid it down so it would connect to the next one without leaving any holes. The demon placed the stone down and watched and felt it begin to glue itself to the fledgling forge. It would need to set to get the full effect, but it was the start that was needed to keep it all together. He repeated the process through the day laying mortar and stone, evening out proportions so it wasn't to thin or thick, and keeping the stonework consistent. Rota had forgotten the passage of time a bit, but it didn't matter. This forge was going to be beautiful.

It was time for the true gathering to begin for the final leg of Rota's journeys in Floor 1. He decided to gather some mushrooms before anything else so that he would have the chance to find some of the so called 'red harvest' tokens that would allow him access to certain pieces of equipment and tools that would allegedly boost his prowess in mining. Part of him wanted to believe it was a snake-oil scheme and be done with it...but what if it was true? What if it really COULD improve his ability and give him a decisive edge he needed so desperately in the mines some days? those days were largely behind him, but what if they appeared later? He could not take that risk again. Besides, this made sure that when he started truly focusing on his harmony with animals would be able to be trained much easier using boars as his training dummies. he had a feeling that despite them being a little more dangerous than the spiders, that that would make them better to train with since their actions were more erratic. and he was unsure of continuing to use Bears would be profitable to his health. Although, it seemed he was able to hold his own very effectively with his level of durability, so it might not be too bad to use Bears. As long as he had the mushrooms though, it was slightly better to practice on the boars.
