Maebe whistled low when she saw the horn sailing through the air, and land with a skidmarked trail by her feet. She kicked it, and wondered if bull horn was more lucky than lion fang. That was a theory worth testing.
Dawson received a gentle pat on the a** for his efforts, when she ran to catch up and join in the fight. The bull looked ridiculous with his one curved horn, and she felt the compulsion to fix that.
"Watch this!" Maebe bent down just enough to give her a jump boost, and grabbed onto the ring that hung off of the bull's nose. She pulled herself up until she could sit inside of the horn, and used her trident to pick at the other horn like a chunk of ice, until it fell off in pieces.
A blast of cold air from its nose blew her clean off of the ring, landing her still-laughing right on her a** several feet away. "Mission accomplished."

The bull seemed keenly aware of her presence now, and she wasn't able to do much other than jab at its leg before it reared and came charging for her. It did not need horns to lay into her.

Her trident stabbed into marble over and over, as she ducked the whip of its tail and the charge of its nose in order to get several solid jabs in. She could not dodge a foot stepping on it, but it did not remain on her as it had the first time. Crushing her was enough.

Being stepped on required a moment for her to catch her breath, but the bull was not so lenient, and simply stepped on her again.

The third time the hoof came down on her, her trident was ready, stabbing effortlessly into the meat of its foot like a tack on the floor. She rolled out of the way as it howled in pain, stumbling for some distance to give her a chance to get her breathing back to normal.

Dawson whooped as Maebe took the other horn off and smacked the bull's face a little more to turn it away from stamping on his friend. It worked maybe a little too well.

"Heeeeeeere, Bessie Bessie Bessie," he cooed, trying to keep the bull's attention on him, waving his shield around like a cape as best he could. What he learned was that even hornless, a headbutt from a stone bull still hurt.

What he also learned was that they could still charge and knock you clean on your a** easy. He was starting to wonder if he had honestly lost weight as the thing pinned him down.

"Gawd--Bessie, no!" he yelled as he fought off gnashing flat teeth and a forehead that it was quickly adapting into a sort of hammer. The hooves were what got to him most, however, pressing the full weight of the statue on his aching limbs and preventing him from escaping. It was all Dawson could do to keep himself from getting choked beneath it.

He looked like he had this. Dawson really did look like he had the bull by it's non-existent horns, and Maebe had pulled back, waiting to see the glorious finale, when suddenly he was under those hooves that she knew all too well and he was struggling, struggling less now, and fading-
The trident sunk into the bull's nose, in an awkward attack that had more power behind it than it should have, because adrenaline and fear were powerful motivators. The trident continued to dig deeper, even after the bull's face cracked, and shattered in half. She kept poking at it, long after it was ********." She growled out, crushing a piece of it's horn under her foot until only the very tip was left for her to pick up and take.

He wheezed as the statue crumbled and rolled over, coughing out dust. "s**t, you'd think I'd never tussled with a wild beast before," he mumbled, though Maebe was given a grateful look. Dawson took a little longer than he liked getting to his feet, but he did his best not to look tired; he didn't want an excuse to not keep going. "Here's hopin' tha' horn does us better, yeah?"
He sneezed at the vines and ripped them off his arm as he plodded through the pool, very intent on not stopping this time.

"Yeah." She murmured, quietly sliding the horn into his pocket just as she'd done with the fang before, without him noticing.
The vines were brutal on her, but she took their beatings like a champ, trudging out of the water the third time she snuck past them and rising her arms up slowly in the air to arch her back and stretch.
"See, Dawson, this s**t is why we can eat burgers all we want. All that energy just gets pounded out of us before we can really digest it." She inspected a large bruise on the inside of her arm with horror, dismayed by the defilement of her perfect skin.

He half-laughed, half-coughed. "You seen how much I eat, Mayb? Bet I'm just breakin' even right now."
Speaking of eating and getting pounded and digestion, the hydra reared its heads again. Dawson nope nope nope'd his way out, yanking Maebe by the arm in a death grip that may or may not have accidentally been near her bruise.

There were so many apologies thrown her way it was amazing Dawson had any breath left by the time they hit the temple. But he was starting to think maybe they shouldn't tote any souvenir around from there aside from the artifact...
