He almost didn't see her at first; but then Helmut's familiar voice rang through the hallway, and Xavier turned quickly around, feathers flying as his hair whipped against his shoulder, and he stumbled slightly, catching himself at the last minute.
"H-Helmut," he said, a smile forming across his face, though it was still nervous. "Hey. You look, um."
There was a pause as Xavier grappled for the right words. He stared at her for a few minutes, taking in every detail of her outfit and her hair and everything - and then finally mumbled, his cheeks pink, "You look very lovely."
Hastily he stuck out a slightly shaking clawed hand, where a small red flower on a black band sat.
"This is for you," he said. "Um. To - to match mine."

The Tesla coils at the sides caught his attention but until Jory's wow he hadn't given much looking over them. Though when they passed between them, a jumped was shared with Jory before he was dragged with the others grasp. It was one of the quickest times he remembered moving, a soft chuckling sounding as he realized just why the other boil was so frantic to get away. Granted it was equally as surprising to him, he didn't tease, just grinned knowingly to the other as he apologized.
The taste of metal however causing that grin to turn a little sour at the edges. "Yeah...I could use a drink.." Lips smacked together to try and figure it out as one of Jory's hands swiped his hair. For a moment he was silently pondering, at least until a thought of if the taste of his date could rid him of the unwanted flavor came, on that he was bending for a stolen quick kiss and swipe of tongue to lips. No luck though, so his hand curled tight around the one in it and he waggled his brows a touch comically, ".. drinks...then attempted dance.?..." It was Zaire's turn to look a little sheepish, and then glance away.
Because, he had no idea how to dance, since he had never been to one.
And now Jory knew.

Helmut let out a low, shy whine as he tried grasping at words...and then she smacked both hands to her own face, rubbing it sheepishly in a manner that did nothing but make her cheeks darker, and her bangs slightly messier. Her hands dropped abruptly to link behind her back, her stance shifting shyly.
"Um. Th-thank you, you are v-very um." She peeked at him from under her bangs. "H-handsome." That was a good word to use, right? That wasn't weird or anything? The small wendigo was doing her best to think of what her Mama taught her about manners, but right now, standing in a hallway in clothes that were so clean they smelled moth-y fresh, she couldn't recall a single thing.
Suddenly, there was something in front of her face. Something she instinctively yelped at, head snapping up and eyes wide to stare at the sudden thing, until she realized what it was...and that he was even talking.
"For, um, me?" She pointed at herself in surprise, and then reached out to take the small red flower as if it were a fragile piece of glass. "Thank you!" She squeaked, looking quite pleased...and then suddenly quite confused. "...Whaadoido with it?"

Pale eyes met glowing blue as the taller boil looked down at him, and as Zaire leaned in, a similar thought running through his mind as he tipped his head up, returning that stolen kiss eagerly. It was a little disappointing when the taste of metal lingered on his tongue, but he smiled all the same, happy to be there with his boilfriend, specially after what had just happened at the lake. At the taller boil's question he blinked, head tilting, then grinned up at him, leaning up on tiptoe to lay a kiss against the corner of his mouth. "Yes, attempt to dance." Jory didn't know how either. He'd never been, not at home, and not here. "I can't promise I'll be any good at it though, I've never done it before." He had heard it was just moving to the music, and that sounded easy enough, at least in theory. Smoothing a hand down Zaire's chest, he leaned into his side, wrapping his arm around the mahamba's. "But drinks first." He grinned, starting them towards the table with the drinks.

Hollandaise looked at Mathias for a long moment, her yellow eyes gleaming dimly. Her own arms relaxed and dangled at her sides. Whatever this thing was about, it was obviously embarrassing him more than her, and somehow, that made her own embarrassment simply vanish. She still felt sort of bad, of course, but it had been nice to feel the soft fur of his ears. And he had enjoyed, even if he thought it was too much. "Is that bad? It feels good?" She reached out and placed a hand on his shoulder ion what she hoped was a reassuring manner. Hollandaise had no experience in things like 'reassurance' or 'comforting'. For all she knew, she'd just make him mad again. "If you hate it, though," she said slowly, "have you tried to... desensitize yourself to it? I know you said you were working on the ghoul portion, though, ah, it seems a lot more dire than I'd thought? But what about your ears?" Her eyes flicked up to them and back down before she released his shoulder. Casually, she began to place a few things on a plate.

He was trying to sort through the mess of feelings inside of his head, but all he was coming up with was a lot of blushing, happiness, awkwardness, and a few other things mingled together that didn't really make a whole lot of sense. Xavier tugged on his coat and flushed a darker red, curling his claws against the side of his face.
"T-thank you!" he blurted out, and gave Helmut a hesitant smile.
The smile, however, slipped a little at her reaction. Xavier recoiled a little in surprise, almost dropping the flower as he fumbled with it, catching it at the last second. He blinked rapidly at her.
"O-oh," he stammered. "U - um, you - you wear it, like this!"
Xavier took a step closer, right in front of her, and pulled the flower gently from Helmut's fingers again. He reached out and took her hand and very gently slid the corsage over her small fingers and onto her wrist, adjusting it carefully until it sat correctly.
"There," he said gently. "It's...it's just meant to be, um...something pretty for you to wear...from me."
He hadn't yet let go of her hand.

West hadn't been aware there was a Halloween dance this year. He was just passing through campus like he sometimes did, not because he cared at all, but because sometimes there were things like dances, and sometimes they had free food.
He wasn't remotely dressed nicely enough for a real, grown-up party, but his everyday attire was certainly good enough for a school one. The demon strode into the auditorium, intending to head straight for the snacks, but something, or things, sparked with a sudden crackle of electricity, sending it arcing right through him before he could get out of range. Although it was more of a tricksy surprise than a dangerous one, that didn't make it any more welcome. West's trajectory shifted immediately, and a moment later he had hopped up onto a table near the door and was punching one of the coils with murderous intent, heedless of the shocks he received as a reward.

If there was one thing his fiancé had going for him (and it was one thing Alexander never quite got used to), it was that he could move incredibly fast. It barely felt like any time had passed between the last text message he received and Yin suddenly arriving, there in front of him, apologizing for being late. Of course, as easy going as Alex usually was, he couldn't find it in himself to complain. In fact, it would have been rather hypocritical to do so. But still, he couldn't help but grin, a mischievous look coming to his eyes, which flicked up and down Yin's outfit. "Nice tie." He commented, reaching out to run a skeletal finger along the haphazardly tied strip of fabric. "Sooooo, how about a dance to make up for it? The lateness, I mean." There was a part of him that wanted to ask why he was late, but that part of him could certainly wait.

"Oh?"
Even sharper, like the phantom p***k of thorns.
"Have you wanted me for that long?" Barth asks, but the words are more a movement than a sound.

If Mia learned anything from this, it was that those with fiery temper were hard to calm down, students and familiars alike. She was thankful the reaper was able to calm him down, or at least, prevent him from setting something ablaze (thank Jack), and marveled at how she was able to stroke the flames without burning herself.
"True." she laughed, unable to hide the fact she was always happy to meet another reaper. It seemed she didn't have a chance to meet many, as most of the students she encountered were demons or monsters, with occasional ghost and undeads. "Still, it's a pleasure to meet you, Verusha, and you too, Cannon." At the ghoul's remark, she couldn't help but give a sympathetic smile. "I'm sure you'll be able to find someone. I spotted some students lingering about, and you know how boils are about dances."
There was suddenly a loud sound, and Mia turned, frowning when she saw someone... punching the tesla coils. W-why... "Hey! Please stop that!" She expected some of the rowdier students to cause trouble, but still... musicaloner7 No worries! I got a little busy ; u ;

Though she felt horribly stupid for not knowing, Helmut continued to stare up at him with the wide, innocent eyes of a child who simply trusted that he'd know what to do, and how to fix it. The thought that he wouldn't never crossed her mind, and in the end it seemed that her endlessly blind faith paid off; he not only knew how, but he did it for her, which was pretty awesome by her standards. She couldn't get it wrong if someone else did it!
She stared at the corsage in utter fascination as it was fit around her tiny wrist, and tightened just enough to hold it in place without being constricting.
"Oh." Helmut said quietly. With that said she simply stood there, holding his hand and staring into space. It was very pretty, and it was a gift, which was also awesome! Super awesome. The awesomest of awesomes.
Then, after what felt like a few minutes (though certainly only seconds had passed), she piped up:
"I still dunno how to dance good...is ok?"

Amarus was, admittedly, not doing very much when West started to punch the tesla coils. She didn't often have a temper, at least not without the presence of someone she cared for, so it wasn't that she was angry at West exactly or even that she felt some duty to uphold decent behaviour.
It was much more to do with the resentful feeling that if she couldn't punch things at a party, then nobody else could either. So with that feeling in mind, the Lotus Eater cut her palm open as she closed the space between herself and West.
She reached out her cut hand, essence leaking down it, and prepared to swipe it across whatever skin she could get at. If she couldn't, it wouldn't be a problem-- Amarus positioned herself so she could try to make eye contact, shortly after, and if even that failed she layered her voice with her lotus essence. She layered it thick.
"I remember you, and I'm afraid your outbursts are unwelcome at the moment though if you would like to fight later I would be only too happy to oblige," she said, "for now, wouldn't you like to listen to my voice? And let it remind you of a dream you had once, and in this dream you felt a sense of bliss because there was no where you belonged more," she said, and her aura flickered pink-purple pulsing light against her skin.
She smiled at west, and waited to see if she had to use one of the other senses. She sincerely hoped not. Sight, sound, and her raw essence should be enough to do something.

It was hard to say if Yin was more self-conscious about the tie or pleased that Alexander seemed to like it (even as sloppy as it was). Either way he let Alexander's fingers trace over the fabric with only the lightest of blushes staining his cheeks. Which quickly faded when he realized there was definitely no way to avoid dancing with his bonded. It definitely was not his favored activity, though due to his lessons with Jack he had improved somewhat, and it would be good practice for the reception. "That could be arranged," he said simply, holding out his hand for the zomboil's. "I did not mean to leave you waiting so your wish is my command." He quickly nodded in Mort's direction. "Please excuse us," he murmured, then started tugging Alexander toward the dance floor, wondering if the taller boil would move a bit faster considering they were going to do an activity he enjoyed.

This time Zar didn't reply at all, but the link once again did it for him. A strange lingering wistfulness, embarrassment, discomfort and then a haze of other emotions he did not dare to name and a quickening of his pulse.
He remembered the very first day, asking about something as trivial as shoes and getting a look at something more than his sheltered mind could imagine. He saw friendship and on various levels desire. Calder had hooves like and unlike his own and dressed like nothing he'd ever seen. He'd welcomed him. And Barth. Well.
There was a twisted surge of what almost felt like hatred, an emotion that was contorted black and terrible but which twisted possessive, twisted into the blood red of desire and into the same blood red of rage and resentment. It had no name but it was everything. It was pushed firmly down, back to the low patient tempo of feigned indifference.
"I wanted to be faithful." he said. "I was given loyalty, I deserved something else."
Lost in his emotions, he didn't register the startlingly white and handsome figure nearby as Calder, he was so used to the Kelpie being dressed naturally and loosely, the idea of him being in all white didn't even flag up the usual peripheral notices.
