Occupation: Street urchin and rather incompetent pickpocket
Crew Position: Stowaway wannabe
History: Nathaniel Benbow was born the second child of a dock worker and laundry woman in Moore Town. Growing up in a part of town tucked behind alleys even the nobler ship-rats avoided, Nathan shared half a moldy-cornered room with his two sisters. Despite the circumstances, his parents raised him honest. On days his father worked the night shift and brought home a bit for meat for breakfast, he attended public school. As a result, he's competent at basic arithmetic and half-literate, but unsurpassed at tolerating knuckle-raps and ear-pinches.
His father went from job to job as the years went by, never earning quite enough to pay off the small debt to the landlord nor little enough to end up on the street. When Nathan was eleven, the small world he knew was stricken with a terrible disease. Sickness spread through the tenements faster than flames the time Miss Bess's old mother on the first floor knocked over an oil lamp in her sleep. The tenants who survived were smoked out by men speaking of tearing down the entire rat's nest. Nathan's older sister Ruth disappeared, still coughing, two days before the eviction. He and his younger sister Janie were left orphaned on the streets.
His life as a street urchin wasn’t half bad, thanks to the generous ladies always willing to spare bits of tea-cakes and coins when they see Janie's wobbly-lipped begging. But he still cried when he didn’t think she was listening. He missed his parents, of course, and dreamed of finding Ruth.
Perhaps with some money, he thought, he'd be able to make things right. He didn't know how to do that, but he'd seen the sailors swaggering in from the docks, pockets so full of coins that they don't even notice one or two going missing. With that much money, he could buy a mattress, a really soft one, and maybe even that lollipop Janie kept crying over. And once he was rich, Ruth would surely come home.
With all this in mind, Nathan resolved to become a sailor. He snuck down to the docks each night, watching the loading and unloading of the merchant vessels, planning for the day he'd follow those men aboard and turn his life around.
Persona: Nathan has a resilient spirit and a stubborn attitude. He knows what he wants, but not how to get it or what’s standing in his way. He might lament his situation, but he’ll always get back on what he thinks is the track toward his goals.
Abilities: As far as Nathan knows, he has no special abilities. If he did, he’d be using them.
Strengths: Nathan can fit into small spaces. He is a little bit literate and very hungry. He has no fear of heights, creepy-crawlies, getting reprimanded, or getting dirty, and he’s only a little bit afraid of the dark. He’s also very persistent in getting what he wants, and pretty cute.
Weaknesses: For a kid who begs and steals for his dinner, Nathan is a surprisingly bad thief. He can’t keep a straight face while lying, or resist the urge to scratch those itches that appear just when he should stay still and hidden. He’s also rather gullible and physically weak for his age.
Shoe Size: US7, if you gave him a shoe his toes weren’t hanging out of. If you feed him he’ll probably end up growing like a beanstalk.
Other: Nathan begins at the Moore Town docks, searching for a job as a sailor. He doesn’t know how these things work, so he’ll probably hide aboard a Coalition ship (they do have fancy-looking uniforms, after all) until it sets sail. Once he’s stuck aboard, he’d probably make a pretty useful cabin boy or rigging monkey or what have you.

Looks good me dearie !
Whoot ! Have internet ! So on that note let me know if you have any questions or things you'd like to go over with regards to Nathan . I think his profile looks quite good and sounds reasonable , and I do like the idea of him starting in Moore Town and finding his way onto a ship ( either Coalition or pirate , I'm sure we can make either work -- pirates may keep him if he proves his worth , and the Coalition isn't so harsh that they'd toss a kid overboard - and since they'll be pursuing the Absolute Bearing they won't have time to take him back to Moore C:
Rob Roy/William : "I'll take him. I could use a smaller barrelman with a younger man's eyes."

Awww, he's so cute! Though if Hester caught him on her ship, she'd just put him to work and not give a second thought about him. Too busy with kicking pirate butt, xD. Not sure how Archie would react to him on the ship. I think a pirate ship would be good for him though as he has more opportunity on there.

Now I have too many ship choices!eek How do I choose one?
I admit I've gotten a little confused about the history (already) leading up to where they are now. The Absolute Bearing used to be a military ship and now is a pirate ship, so I'm not sure where they've been pirates together before, but I'd love it if they were. George has so much to teach Fleur, who'd jump at the chance!
Me too cat_sweatdrop I read up on Fleur's profile and I think I have a way they could've been around each other. George was a prostitute so it's plausible that she frequented the bar where her Fleur's mom worked while raising her (going by their ages, Fleur would have been about 3 I think by the time George had run away and become a prostitute). It'd be super cute for George to have been giving Fleur simple puzzles to do while her mom worked, while she was in between Johns! Then George left the area and could've wound up on Gilbert's ship as a pirate, and she was there when 6-year-old Fleur and Mom got back on Gilbert's boat. She could've continued giving her puzzles and teaching her things as she grew , up until George was captured and made a prisoner.

It does sound like Nathan and Gerald would be able to bond over their pasts. And it would take a full belly, a warm bed, and the promise of pocket change. He doesn't know not to trust the promise of a pirate, or that there are sums of money that don't fit in pockets.
If the wind reassures him, maybe Gerald should sleep on deck. Maybe in a lifeboat? Does this pirate ship bother with lifeboats?
Well, you'd have to get Gerald to talk about his past, and he isn't always the talking kind of person (and probably would rather forget).

Skydiving? A ton of bricks? ninja
Don't know. I'm gonna guess there is some kind of survival gear, but the tech seems to be "relatively" new... I'll take a guess and say there are at least a parachute of some kind people can use... (Or we all grab a fist full of this magic mineral, swallow, and float! emotion_awesome ... Probably not... emotion_eyebrow )

HELLO I forgot to remember when you are coming back! when are you coming back also is there anyone left that we are waiting on profiles for, or are we all ready to get this ball rolling? I assume everyone will be mega busy with their families this weekend, but I am 100% ready to get started!
On another note, is anyone else starting out on the C.S.S Grogram? I figured since my character is supposed to have been there a while, she would at least know by sight some crew/other prisoners/etc that had also been there
