He stood, kicking again when a string tried to wrap itself around his leg.

I don't want you to leave me.

They reclined under a tree, hiding from the glare of a sunset. It was over. All of this was done. THey were alumni and they were poised to go out into the world and change it for the better.

"Are you going to visit home?" he asked.

"Yeah," the rock replied. "I think I'll go back for a bit. Show off my fancy diploma, you know?" It picked up a grape and crushed it between its stony teeth.

He reached for a crabapple only to find his katar in his hand. It felt better this time, more at home.

Cut the strings.

It felt like there were so many strings, and the small blade on his weapon wasn't enough. He sawed with the small blade, hardly relaxing though a few more strings broke.

With a sharp shout, Brenley swung his weapons in a wide circle, severing the strings around him in one final assault. Alice fell away, Wonderland too, even Emerys' influence seemed more bearable somehow, if not completely gone. Piper... he'd really spoken with her. She was okay. And that door... With the A.I. out of the picture he could see it for what it truly was. Even so, something was not right.

How could he have made all of that up? How could he have seen things he didn't know existed with such clarity?

Bren had so many questions, but right now he simply couldn't keep his eyes open. The boil was afraid to sleep after all that had happened in his dreams, but he found himself swaying on his feet, his weapons disappearing as he yawned hugely. It was a good thing, too. He'd almost taken his nose off.

"I'll just... be a moment, Screech," he said, sitting down at the foot of his bed. Less than a minute later, he toppled onto the mattress like a fallen tree.

Mmur hadn't slept through the night in months. He was trying so very hard to understand, to change, to become more, but all his efforts left him with were a persistent headache and violent visions of those they had lost. That the expressions of agony on the faces of the horsemen in those visions so closely resembled the ones on the humans he had culled recently had not gone unnoticed. Just as his people had suffered when the hunters had decimated the isles, so too did the humans suffer when the horsemen murdered their loved ones. If only his mind didn't see fit to put the heads of those he had loved on stupid human bodies, he wouldn't have cared. Or so he told himself.

He felt the pull of destruction so keenly, just as he always had, but now there was something more, a gnawing sympathy he wished he could suppress. It turned the likelihood that he might ever understand the art of scavenging into a near statistical impossibility. Mmur longed to move on to the study of alchemy, to declare this portion of his training complete, but he knew that if he didn't embrace the role of the Scavenger truly and completely, he would never understand what it meant to be a Sage.

He flirted with the idea of giving up that night. The part of him that dared to dream seemed a tangible thing, a horrible weight he could just throw off and return his life to what it had been. He took to the rooftops, the bitter taste of one of Fai's less successful brews on his tongue as he curled his toes around the edge and swayed in the wind. He swayed too far. He didn't notice.

A strong arm snaked across Mmur's stomach, pulling him back to safety as he chuckled breathlessly. The Scavenger held him tightly, whispering into the shell of his ear, and if she smelled familiar, he was too drunk to notice. When his hysterical giggling finally ceased, he reluctantly told her of his conundrum, and she comforted him with more care and understanding than she had any reason to. He was right, she said. Horsemen were attracted to destruction because they needed it to live, but there was nothing wrong with leaving large swaths of humanity untouched. He had focused too much on the killing, the apocalypse, and not enough on the harvest. If the cattle thrived, so did they.

She took his hands and channeled her freshly caught FEAR between them. It felt like cool water sliding down his throat at midday, hot sand beneath his feet, like running through an empty field screaming until his lungs were empty. It cleared his head just enough. It was perfection. He leaned closer. He kissed her. His clawed fingers twined in her hair, tugging, tearing, breaking...

...Mmur opened his eyes, struggling against the strings that clogged his tent from sleeping tarp to canvas ceiling. There was a door, a pair of figures, a little girl. He had no idea what was going on. He lashed out at the strings...

...cutting several strands by accident. He tried to apologize, but she was pulling him nearer, fitting her body to his, and the nagging uncertainty that he had felt ever since he had taken the first step on this new, frightening path was finally forgotten.

Cut the strings. Break free.

He was fighting. His enemy wasn't the hunters, it was a puppet child and a room full of hair. Mmur tore at the strands, kicking wildly when they began to give.

He summoned his whip, lashing at the remaining strings, his chest heaving with the effort by the time he was done. Only the girl remained.

I can give you everything you want. All you have to do is sleep and stay with me.

Was he still asleep? He didn't want to sleep. He knew what he had to do now. He was done.

"No."

He shook his head, momentarily distracted by how long his hair had gotten. When had that happened? How hadn't he noticed?

"I will wake up. I will. Let me go."

LET ME GO

His glowing eyes went wide as the little girl faded to smoke. Any exhaustion he might have normally felt upon waking had been burned away by his dream, leaving him confused but alert. The arm that had saved him from needless rooftop dissipation still held him fast, fingers ghosting against his skin once his heart began to quicken. Mmur turned. He propped himself on an elbow. Hadan grinned up at him.

"Good morning. Or probably afternoon by now."

"What are you doing here?"

"I would think you would know the answer to that better than anyone. You're the one who dragged me here and ******** me. You must have been more out of it than I thought if you don't remember that."

"I remember." He recalled long, dark hair curling around his fingers and green eyes so bottomless he'd gotten lost in them. "Kind of." The little puppet girl had said she would give him everything he wanted. Apparently, that no longer included Hadan.

"You have to go. This was a mistake." Mmur pulled away from the soldier's grasp, dressing quickly in a nearby pair of jeans he had found in the trash and a t-shirt several sizes too large for him. He positioned himself by the flap of his tent, staring guiltily at the ground. "I am not the Mmur you knew and I can't be him again."

Hadan's frown grew deeper the longer the silence between them held. He eventually rose to his feet and, with one last glare, stormed from the tent.

With a gasp she wakes, something that is quickly becoming a common occurrence Abbi does not consent to, nor ever feels she will. Waking like this is dreadful and waking all tied up is even worse. She squeaks in loud alarm, tugs at the bonds with a frantic quickness that does nothing to free herself. Dreams have not been good to her as of late, but it seems they have gotten all the worse while she slept.
"This is so not cool like what the frick frack, paddy whack are you into, lady?!" Abbi shouts at the figure, shaking her whole self once more before she finds her fingers are free. Palms are free too, and while her wrists are tied up, she can still rotate them a little.
That's enough.

Only it isn't, for slender hands, too thin and too pale-white-gray to be real, hold her down. The hands belong to a body with a head and a mouth full of sharp teeth that grin down at the girl.
{ Ain't ye cute, all held down like this? }
Abbi pulls one wrist down, but finds the ghost's hands have forcibly contained her quite well.
{ Did'na think I was that strong, eh? Ye learn, Little Bit, ye learn... }
The hands are cold as a grave, but the smile is a fire on the girl's face. She whimpers, but laughs because this is silly, this is just fun...

"Nooooooooooope." The girl yowled a moment later and thrashed about, never having been tied down and not really sure she liked it... Maybe in another situation but--

He grinned down at her-- "OH MY GLOB-- NO-- THIS IS NOT OK I DIDN'T--" , he laughs, says something clever because he is terribly clever and everything she says is so lame in comparison-- "Are you for real. Seriously. This is what--" One hand rests on the top of her head and he sighs, but he's smiling and he looks tired but he's happy too. He's smiling at her, and he's very content looking. All because of her.
"Please stop, this isn't fair..."

This is getting ridiculous, she's letting herself get all worked up and in a tizzy over something stupid like being caught in a literal web. It isn't like some giant spider is going to swoop down and gobble her up, there's only ALICE and even if she's... Annoying... She's fairly harmless.
...Fairly...
But she has to get out of this somehow, she has to escape and get back to her life she's got to--

Now the restraints are a seat belt, holding her down, keeping her safe.
"Please--" Small fingers cannot unbind the material that crosses her chest, that presses into her harshly. "I can't--" Can't breath, can't move, can't fight back, can't do anything.
"N-no, no I can-- I just can't--"

The girl hollers a lot of colorful, but very PG, phrases at the ALICE AI but words can break bones, not dream bonds.

"You're gonna run out of stuff soon..." She informed the AI as she twisted her waist and managed to turn herself upside down. "I'm kinda dumb sometimes and you've only got so many dreams to work with and--"

So the skirt was a little short, that was an easy thing to overlook when it meant saving the world! She could hop from building top to building top in a single leap and shoot crescent moons from her fabulous golden tiara. There was even a wand involved! Nothing was better than that, aside from the gorgeous team of awesome ladies who fought for justice by her side, of course. Having a huge group of fantastic, crime fighting, evil vanquishing, punishing in the name of the moon friends was really the best!

The girl pouted, let herself go limp and glared at ALICE.
"You're a real butt."

Increasingly frustrated with being tied up, Abbi began to loudly shout a variety of things at ALICE, namely all very placid things like "I'll throw a saucer plate at your head!" or "Your tea is nasty and tastes like fish! The bad kind! That no one likes, not even snooty yuppies!". They didn't get her anywhere and only mildly made her feel better, but they seemed to be rather rude to the AI for what flashed next did make the girl stop for a long while.

He's bleeding, from his eye that is gone, from his neck that is hardly there, from the mangled mess of hair that has been completely clipped from her head, from the multiple burrows in her skin that wiggle every so often with the infestation of a bug. She's pouring red from everywhere, from a criss-cross wound on her chest, from his shoulders that are roughly hewn with claw marks, there's just so much.
It pools on the floor, they all do and they all look at Abbi and sigh and talk amongst their dead selves and wonder why she didn't try harder. Why hadn't she tried at all? Why had she been so selfish?

The handle forms in one hand before she notices it, her fingers acting on instinct as they wrap around the slender cylinder and twist once, cut through the webs that hold her wrist as easy as cutting warm butter. Its an axe that swings down and frees her legs, its an axe that is heavy in just one hand and is better fit for two, but will do for now in the single digit that has been freed.

"Didja not like that?" Abbi calls out with a grin, the hand not occupied with a weapon making a fist and shaking. "Got all upset cause I called your tea gross?" Maybe someone who really liked tea would get offended, but to the teen it was a paltry matter.
"Look at meeee~ I'm ALICE, I get upset when people don't like my tea! Boo hoooooo!" Being intentionally cruel like this was hard, which meant the girl only swung the axe again up toward her other hand that was still caught. Her left leg was free, but that left hand still was trapped. Only now the axe handle lengthened, the axe turned terribly curved and long and Abbi grinned broader at the scythe. The handle swung up and her still tied hand caught it.
