Panic began to seize Darkstorm as she flailed once, twice more with her tail before having to accept the truth that the stallion was going to endure the pain in order to win this battle. The ground was rushing up fast and his hooves had pinned per, preventing her from flying out horizontally. At this speed, she was going to be severely injured. She had to act, and she knew of only one option. It was risky, but... she didn't have a choice.

She gave up on flapping for a moment, completely tucking her wings and angling her front half down, making her slimmer and narrower against the wind. She began to fall faster - the ground rushing up so fast, but... she could no longer feel the stallion's hooves in contact with her body.

One second... two... enough to make sure there was distance between them and then with a SNAP, she unfurled her wings again, catching the air and slowing her fall.

But it wasn't quite enough. She was so close to the ground, and her wings were not the strongest to begin with. She landed hard on her knees, scraping and rolling as she tumbled completely over once... twice.... and lay still.

Darkfall braced himself, steeling his nerves as her tail whipped up once more... twice more, each time flaying his hide more. Hot blood ran up his leg as he plummetted closer and closr to the ground. Still, he refused to spread his wings and let her go. He continued to count, to brace himself. But then she began to shift. To his disbelief, she snapped her wings IN, and all of a sudden, she was falling out from under him.

He swore under his breath, and immediately snapped his wings open, catching an updraft in his large wings and sailing upwards as he watched her also spread her wings. But his heart paused for a half-second as he watched her fumble.... her strange, smoky batlike wings weren't as air-resistant as his, and she was too close to the ground with her dive. She managed to slow her fall, but not enough to stop herself. She hit, and rolled.

He landed quickly after her, nudging her - a little roughly - with a hoof cautiously. Her body almost imperceptably shifted, and a light groan escaped her lips. She was still alive. Good. Ashfall was happy to fight for his herd, but he didn't want to kill if he didn't have to. But he didn't know how long she'd be out.

Quickly, he gathered some of the corded vines, and secured the unconcious mare.

STORMFALL is KNOCKED OUT
This Soquili is now out of combat, and should be ignored by aggressors.
The knocked out Soquili can still be captured if the character is open to capture in their form.

Stormfall watched as her winged companion was released by the blue flutter and she breathed a large sigh of relief as it made a beeline straight towards her. As it reached her Stormfall nuzzled the creature before catching sight of the blue flutter rushing to the edge of the waterfall to peer over it. Black spots had begun to converge in her field of vision. Stubbornly Stormfall shook her head and made a move to close the distance between them. Instead of disappearing though the black spots grew larger, obscuring her vision.

The mare glanced upwards catching sight of a pale blue figure before her legs gave out. As her body hit the ground her lips murmured the name of her daughter, "Tsunami?"

She had pushed herself too hard to fight through the injuries that she had sustained and was now paying the price.

User ImageThe scream that bubbled out of Nise-e’s mouth, no doubt, would garner the attention of the strangers fighting around her, good and bad. But she didn’t care. She didn’t care at all. Seeing her friend, her confidant, her Xander, trying to protect her and others they barely knew, thrown to the ground and stomped on, broke something inside. She wasn’t sure what. But it didn’t matter. Nothing mattered.

‘No.’

‘No.’

‘NO.’

“NO!!” She screamed and felt herself charging in, her wings aiding in her speed of flight.

That stallion, that BULL of a soquili did this. He did this to her friend. HE did this to her family. She had to help him. She HAD to help the others. No more. No more. NO MORE. Flying fast, and by no means silently, she closed her eyes and slammed herself into Diogenes as hard as she could. He was like a hard rock, diamond even. But she didn’t care. She had to save him.

Save her Xander.

Xander is DYING
This SoquiliFamiliar is now out of combat. Immediate medical attention required, if its not already too late!

All he felt was pain, agony, and unadulterated terror. He couldn’t move, couldn’t speak. The blood frothing at his mouth dribbled down his beak and onto the grass. His wings were shattered, his beak was broken, and in reality it was like all of the bones in his body were shattered into tiny shards of pain.

Was he going to die?

Was this how it felt to die?

“Ni-Ni-Nise-e…..” he garbled out hoarsely, blood bubbling to the surface once more, “no…..run….”

Canaan immediately moved to chase Seance as she attempted to flee. He had reached the line of his patience with her, and he was determined that this slippery little creature was not going to leave the herdlands in one piece. He reared up and whinnied furiously, taking off after the shadowy creature. But just before his hooves came down on her skull, an exponentially scarier stallion entered the fray.

Canaan stopped in his tracks, and stepped squarely between the shadowy stallion and Wynter. He swallowed, trying now to let the fear show in his features as he took him in. The blood tripping from his horn tied a knot in his stomach.

"Daddy!" Seance squealed in delight. "Daddy, they hurt me!" she pleaded at him, turning back to face Canaan and Wynter. "Daddy, hurt them back!"

Chandler cursed under his breath as Tara moved, running off to enter a new combat. Kamiki and Arcana seemed to be running away, and thank the spirits the monster seemed to let hem go.

He unfurled his wings in the air and changed his direction, climbing back up into the sky. Thankfully the shadowy murderer didn't seem to notice he was being hunted from above...yet. He squared off against Canaan and Wynter, and he tried his strike again.

Tucking his wings to the side, he dove back towards Tara from his height in the sky. He reached his hooves out in front of him, aiming for the area right between the back of his skull and his neck.

Midway into his charge, something pummeled him from the side. Even at her full force, the little Flutter did little but bump Diogenes off his path. But it was enough to garner his attention. His vision red and blurred from the adrenaline pumping through his body, he stopped and re-aligned himself, turning his attention squarely on the brightly colored Flutter.

He was going to make sure she regretted that. Lowering his horns again, he charged towards her.

Something was seriously wrong with this silly mare. "Alpha does not care who these are," he said, not seeming to understand or care that he was asking her to attack her own flesh and blood. "We do not want to hurt you, but you are ruining everything!" he cried out.

Maybe this was Their great misison; the reason They were here. Stealing his strength, he slammed into Megaera, flailing out with his hooves, trying to take her down.

Tsunami had been close to landing when she witnessed her mother's collapse. Unsure as to what had happened Tsunami's gaze tracked the progress of the strange blue mare that had been nearest to Stormfall. Had she been the one responsible? As the mare ran to the edge of the waterfall Tsunami dipped lower and lower before touching down silently behind her chosen target. Her own winged creature was around but not visible and Tsunami was grateful. Her horn lowered slowly as her tail flicked from side to side. Seeing the mare peer over the edge Tsunami had the briefest idea of ramming her over the precipice. A glance back towards where Stormfall lay hardened her heart and she charged forward rushing the blue flutter mare.

Teumesia's mind kicked into full flight mode. Her ears pressed back and all of her eyes opened wide, taking in the information of what was happening where. There were four of them after her - all of them winged. The glowing mare was above her, but over a bit. The glow still surrounded her and Teumesia hoped that that meant that the mare had limited visibility as well. The great black and white and purple mare was just behind her, where Kumiho had slipped out from beneath her. The white stallion was dropping from a hight in front of her, trying to cut her off. and the black one was behind her, trying to catch up.

She kept at least three eyes on each of them as once more she pulled her wings in, dropping further, nearly to the ground before shooting out, her paws brushing the blades of grass as she fired like an arrow along the herdgrounds before arcing upwards. This was the chase, what she lived for. She had done this with other soquili and two-legs countless times, but none so skilled as this herd. None so determined either. This was a race for her life. Fortunately, Teumesia had had lots of practice in this "game". But it was not about to be easy.

So far down... down down down.... a hypnotic sense of vertigo was reaching up to grab Psyche as she stared down at the falls and the tiny figures below. She didn't notice the lighter blue mare charging. Not, that was, until she felt a pointed impact on her hindquarters, and suddenly a much better view of the falls than she had been anticipating.

She gasped as she fell, her wings snapping downwards to try to catch the air to slow her descent. Her flutter wings were not as strong as some of her family members, but being butterfly like, there was a lot less movement required to move them in a quick downward movement to catch herself. She only dropped twenty feet or so before she was able to catch herself, looking up bewildered at what had sent her over.

Her flank hurt, blood running from the impact point.

Tsunami felt her horn catch the mare in her flank as she successfully shoved her over the precipice. There was a little bit of surprise in Tsunami's expression as she took her opponent's place on the edge of the cliff. A feeling of accomplishment washed over Tsunami as she stared down at the bewildered mare that had caught herself in the fall. There was a brief moment where Tsunami felt unsure about what she had done but it didn't last.

Blinking slowly Tsunami let herself turn away from the edge of the cliff to stand near the spot that her mother had fallen. There was nothing wrong in defending one that couldn't fight. However Tsunami's gaze never ceased flickering back and forth, determining if there was any battle that she could assist in nearby.

"Don't you dare touch my mother!" she spat, though she really didn't know if she had the courage or ability to back up her threats. Euphrates was usually so soft-spoken and gentle, she even surprised herself with the amount of venom in her voice when she called out the intruder. But as kind and gentle-hearted as Euphrates was, she would lay her life down for the protection of her home.

She tried to make herself look more intimidating by flexing her four wings, fluffing them out and trying to make herself look bigger and intimidating. "Leave, now, or I'll be forced to ..." her voice faltered - do what, exactly? Kill her? Hurt her?

"Just GO!" she yelled, stomping her hooves.

"Your mother?" Grimoire posed with a mock-saccharine tone to her voice and puckered lips. Her mock contrition worn on the face of her draft build, however, wasn't fooling anyone. That that she intended for it to be.
She continued, her voice dripping with thick sarcasm, "Did you come here to help your mummy dearest? What a coincidence. I might run into my mothere here as well. Perhaps with my hoof. She always was a meek, simpering thing..."

She strode forward, muscles flexing. "It's a good think I take after my father. I've never met him, but oh... the stories. But mother did teach me one thing. How to act like her. Lure simpering, gullible soquili into my game, like your mom." She chuckled, hoping that her hoof strike had hurt her.

Euphrates' flared wings didn't stop Grimoire. It didn't even slow her. "No. No I don't think I will go. I think I'll stay."

She lowered her head, and like a charging warhorse, using her horn as a 'lance', she attacked.

PHASE 3

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Ire and frustration boiled in Firestarter's gullet. She had refused to accompany her father, Firestorm, on the attack on the Thunderbird herdgrounds after he had traded her like some commodity to Taraxippus's and Anju's herd. He had shown his true colors, his true priority: he cared more about the grudgematch with his father and stepmother than he did about his own family. Claiming this territory wasn't for them, it was all pride. <******** pride.

And yet, as she heard thunder peal across the skies even from where she had paced and pawed at the ground in her new home, she felt distinctly like she was mising something. She had never backed down from a confrontation. Quite the opposite; she thirsted for it almost as much as her father. She wanted to fight, to prove herself.

And yet.... she refused to help Firestorm. But on the other hoof, there was no way that she was going to help them. She was furious with her father, but that didn't undo the years of programming against her grandfather's herd. Not to mention, she wanted a rematch all her own. She had been there the first time Firestorm had tried to take the herdgrounds with just their little family.

Another peal of thunder and a flash of lightning. She took to wing and tried to put all of her nervous energy to use. She flew up and out of the tangled woods that was now her home. As dreary as it was, it was still more of a herd than the marginalized territory at the base of the Thunderbird's territory her father had claimed. Always in their shadow. Always being reminded.

The grasses were painfully dry outside of the woods, and as lightning flashed and struck from the electrical storm (even this rampaging weather refused to bring rain - it was too dry), it sparked in the grasses, and before her eyes, a fire began to burn along the plains. It was beautiful to the mare's eyes. Her namesake. And in the early night, the glow of the fire flickered over her ash and red fur and kindled an idea in the mare's mind.

She could burn them both. Burn them all. Even if her father claimed the territory, it wouldn't be worth anything any more. Just a charred wasteland. A wide, twisted grin spread across her face as she hurriedly flew back to the woods and selected several big, dry branches. They weren't hard to find. She wrapped them with brittle, thorny vines, and then flew back to the wildfire.

Carefully, but with great drive and purpose, she let the end of her long stick catch, and as soon as it had, she began to fly quickly - but not so quickly so as to extinguish the flames - up to the Thunderbird herdgrounds.

*
*
*
By the time she arrived, the herd was swimming with activity: like an ant's nest that had been kicked. The flame reflected in her eyes as she carefully picked a way to approach. In her luck, most of the soquili in the herd were occupied. There were no patrols still flying; they were too engrossed with the invaders who had been in their lands long enough to draw all of the herdmembers to action.

She spotted her entrance and flew to a small section of the herdgrounds with tall, yellowed grasses..... and skimmed the grounds, letting her torch set the grasses ablaze. But she didn't stop. She flew as long as she could with the torch kindling the ground. Not just one spot but two... three... four... spreading the blaze to make it harder to extinguish. Before, the flames crawled up her branch, threatening to burn her soft, velvety muzzle. Finally. she flung the remains of the torch into the heart of the herdgrounds - to spark one more fire, before going to make her own escape.

OOC Instructions

- Phase three is the FINAL PHASE of the War RP!

- This phase officially lasts all of July; On Aug 1, I will close the thread and call it over!

- You may post as often or little as you like

- If your soquili leaves the site entirely and you want to interact, please feel free to spawn different RP threads. This thread will just be for the reactions to the start of the fire, and what the soquili does (run, stay and try to fight it, etc.) Keep in mind that Cannonly, this RP takes place during the wildfires from the "From the Ashes" meta - it has not rained in months and months and the ground is dry. There is the waterfall and river, but it is not as wide as it usually is. The ground is parched and the fire is spreading quickly.

- THERE IS NO POSTING ORDER. Post whenever you feel like it. You may post UP TO twice per soquili in phase one, but you can post once or not at all if you prefer.

Euphrates didn't know what to do - how to react. She had no horns to speak up and she wasn't quick and agile like a fighter. She saw the horn coming at her like a lance, and the moment seemed to stretch forever in time at Grimoire approached. Her visioned seemed to tunnel, unaware of the destruction being caused by Firestorm. Just that obsidian spiral horn - aimed straight at her heart.

Right before impact, Euphrates managed to finally will herself to act. She turned her body, so that the spearhead of the horn didn't pierce her, but instead she felt the skin of her shoulder split as the horn grazed her. The impact still made her fall over, hitting the ground heavy.

Then the heat. Her face landed right on a pile of burning embers, and the smelled the acrid sting of smoke and fire all around her.

User ImageNise-e was downright terrified, terrified down to her very core, her very bones. She was no fighter; she had little to no skills in combat. She was more of a commodity and a liability in the grand scheme of themes. Hell, she hadn’t even lived here for very long, maybe a month or so. She didn’t know anyone yet besides Cataclysm. But deep down, something had to break. And it broke hard. As she stared down the deep blue, wingless, stallion called Diogenes her mind raced.

No more running.

No more hiding.

It was time to stick up for everyone besides herself. This was so much more than just a little fight. This was more than just disgruntled herds clashing it out in a skirmish. It was so much more. It was a battle for life. It was a battle for home. And most importantly, it was a war to end all wars. At least, that’s how Nise-e saw it.

As her heart raced she braced herself as Diogenes took charge at her, beads of sweat rolled down her cheeks as she stood resolutely in front of Xander. He had done everything for her. Found her when she was lost in a cave as a filly. Listened to her stories of butterflies and fun without judgment. He was everything to her. And now she had to give something back to him so his sacrifice would not be in vain.

When he got close she bounced upwards and took flight right at the last second, even though his horns did graze along her chest and down towards her ribs. She winced, but did her best not to falter, gliding around him just out of reach of those deadly horns. He was so large, such a…bull. She didn’t really know of a good way to take him down. Well, she knew she would never be able to take him down herself. She would need help in some way. In some form. But until that time came when or if someone came to help she would distract him as best she could. That way he couldn’t hurt anyone else.

And she’ll be damned to the afterlife if she let him touch Xander anymore than he already had.

With a cry she flew at him as fast as her flutter wings could carry her, aiming for his ribs with her head. Knock him off balance. Attack him from multiple sides. It was the only way she could keep herself from faltering and crying over everything. Grandmamma did it, her momma did it. And now it was her turn. The Nise-e from times past was going to grow up.

She had to do it.

She had to do it for Xander.

And she had to do it for herself. She had to protect him!

There was no such thing as failure!
