Alexis laughed softly. "Trust me, when I recovered from the first time I ran into a sea snake, I was a lot like you," he said, referring to a banded sea snake; the interesting thing was that its venom wasn't as strong as he'd heard and the snake itself was quite different. The snake had been a deep golden red with black stripes rather than black and white; he suspected it was a hybrid between a King Snake and Banded Sea Snake.

Aoi listened to Alexis and she thought that she may be able to use that as an excuse if someone saw her stumbling around. However, she started to think that letting other people see her may be a bad idea. She did want to see other humans, though she wasn’t sure if she’d be able to pick out the truly good ones from the ones that were just going to trick and hurt her. “A sea snake you say…? And you say that you were a lot like I am right now because of that? I could possibly say that I was bitten… Although someone may want me to prove it and I really don’t want people trying to find a bite mark… And I really don’t feel like making said mark just to make it believable…” she said, almost falling, but catching herself just in time.{{ooc:}}

Alexis shrugged as he shifted his left leg, revealing two pinprick scars on the inner thigh. "You could say that you grazed your foot on a sea urchin, which is possible with the coral reefs around these islands," he said with a slight smile.

"I suppose that I have a lot of options when it comes to excuses as to why I can't use my legs right don't I?" She asked as she put her back to the wall and slid down to a sitting position; taking a break from trying to walk. She knew that it would take time to get her legs to fully function the way that she wanted them to and that she shouldn't push herself. "I just wish that I could use my legs the way that I want to... Though as that old saying goes 'practice makes perfect' and I know that's right. But sometimes it's a pain to not be able to do things I want to, the right way, right away." she said as she looked down at her legs and feet, thinking that they were a bit odd, but she liked them all the same as her tail.{{ooc:}}

Alexis tilted his head. "We're both alike in that idea; stubborn about wanting things to go a certain way quickly, and being a bit irritated when it doesn't happen easily. Trust me, though, I know exactly how you feel," he said quietly.

Aoi nodded as Alexis spoke. "I definitely agree with you there. Maybe that's why I was always determined to go against my father's will and go to the surface," she said before adding, "He always said that I didn't get the stubbornness from him and that it was somehow from my mother. Although he was the only one out of the two that didn't want me exploring and was completely and utterly against it. Mother didn't seem to mind me going out of the village much, if at all. Yet that may be because she wasn't stuck in a village all her life and had been free to do whatever she wanted before she met father..." She was rambling and she knew it which was why her face turned red and she apologizied for rambling. She knew that she, if she was permitted to do so, would talk until someone stopped her.{{ooc:}}

Alexis shrugged. "It wouldn't surprise me if he'd been raised to dislike the surface realm, hence why he was 'reluctant' to let anyone else go... guy could learn that just because you assume something is a certain way doesn't mean that assumption is true," he said quietly, not seeming to notice that she'd been rambling at all and keenly aware that his use of the term 'reluctant' was basically sugarcoating the idea. "We can check out that beach anytime you like," he said with amusement, not realizing as he stepped back he bumped the guitar, which tilted towards the basalt-granite floor. Unconsciously he spun, not realizing how fluid it was as he hooked his foot beneath the neck and flicked it into the air, catching it in one hand. A low melody escaped as he caught it, though he didn't seem to realize it.

Aoi nodded as she listened to Alexis speaking, feeling that he was completely right. "Father wasn't ever one to like change and the rest of the people in my village were always that way too... They never scouted too far from the village and then there was that fateful day that the village was attacked... They never even saw it coming because they had scouted the borders the night before the raid, without seeing anything that seemed out of the ordinary, and the next day was supposed to be a festival so there was much to be prepared for. The guards were supposed to be watching the festivities and making certain that none of the townsfolk did anything wrong, so the borders were completely unguarded and the village was blind to the incoming attack from the Shark men... You see, Sharkfolk can move almost undetected if they want to. It was way too late when they were actually spotted... The whole village was nearly destroyed, several people were killed and most of the younger girls were taken for who knows what... I was the only one that wasn't..." she explained, mumbling the last line mostly to herself. She heard Alexis had said something of the beach and she thought that would be a nice way to keep her mind off of what happened when she was a child, though it was not going to be easy, seeing as she felt as if she'd just relieved what had happened that day, if only in her mind.{{ooc:}}

Alexis sighed, listening to her. "I would have put the guards in rotating shifts, probably four hours each, some patrolling the village while others patrolled the edge of the village and the borders. Whether that could have changed things, I have no idea; I think that would give some warning for defensive means, if not enough to let the civilian villagers flee," he said quietly.

Aoi snapped from the trance that she had gone into as she heard Alexis speaking and spoke up. "I think that would have helped, though you know how I said that not many people from my village like change.... Well that was one thing that was always the same... When there's a festival or something of the sort the guards are involved in that as much as everyone else. They don't want to be left out, participate, and thus leaving the borders open; severely endangering the village by doing so... Stupid guards wanting to have fun all at once... Stupid ceremony... I'm glad that I was too young or else I'd have been doomed to live with whoever the stupid elders thought was the best suiter for me... More like for them... I wanted nothing of that..." She sighed and ran her fingers through her hair before saying that another reason she wanted to go to the surface or run away was to get away from the pretty much forced marriage. It was true that her father was being very picky about the whole thing, but she knew that there had been one man that was more than likely going to be the one to take her hand and she disliked him with a burning passion. "There was one man Father took a liking to and I swear that he'd promised me to said man... I hated him and knew that he only wanted me for the money... And, well... you can guess what else that old man wanted..." she said, explaining that the man was about twice her age, shuddering at the same moment.{{ooc:}}

Alexis tilted his head. "Two words: 'nut shot'," he said with a shrug. "Give them a swift kick where it hurts, and see if they don't rethink things," he said with a chuckle, half forgetting that it was difficult to kick with a tail rather than legs.

Aoi looked at Alexis and giggled softly. "I understand what you mean, though kicking isn't exactly the easiest thing to do with a tail." She decided that just sitting there wasn't going to get her use to having legs, so she pulled herself to her feet again. "You know, I think that I may be able to get this right really quickly... Woah!!!" she said a bit overconfidently before yelping and falling onto her bottom again. She frowned a little, but laughed after a moment.{{ooc:}}

Alexis chuckled. "Hey, if walking on your legs is too difficult, you can always walk on your hands," he said teasingly as he shifted his weight, flipping into a handstand fluidly. He wasn't sure if mermen/mermaids were stronger in their lower bodies or upper bodies, though.

Aoi looked over at Alexis as she heard him speaking and she raised an eyebrow. "I don't think that I'd be able to... Wow... I probably wouldn't be able to do that. My arms wouldn't be able to hold the rest of me up." she said, laughing at the thought of what she'd look like if she'd try that, as well as the thought of how many times that she'd end up falling on her face, literally. Although that wasn't as funny an image as her trying to walk with her hands.{{ooc:}}

Alexis shifted his weight, rolling through into a crouch facing Aoi. "You'd be surprised at some of the tricks people have come up with," he said with amusement.
