Force Control 9
One of the things the students were expected to develop was a highly personal ritual meditation referred to as alchaka. This was something Vyntyr practiced herself every day, as was intended by the Jedi Order. It was one of the oldest rituals of the Jedi, and consisted of an advanced form of moving meditation that relied on using the Force and your physical self to perform a series of repetitive motions and complex movements that both exercised your physical body and your spiritual connection to the Force. It was one of the most personal things a Jedi did, and was often a practice performed in private. What you needed to do and how much you did was meant to be something kept to yourself and developed over the span of your whole life.

Performing a proper alchaka meditation often pushed the Jedi to the brink of exhaustion, utterly depleting their physical stamina and their connection to the Force, and leaving them exposed. Naked. Raw to the world, and deepening their connection the Force and their understanding of their bodies. It was a powerful method of Control of yourself, and the mental fortitude required to practice it every day helped train the Jedi to do what may not be comfortable, but is still necessary. Alchaka had been around since the Je'daii order was originally conceived, and was a twenty-five thousand year old tradition that was almost a rite of passage into becoming a Jedi.

The Art of Movement was next, and was a Control technique that the younglings were both familiar with and excited by. A complex obstacle course was set up within the temple, and the Jedi would be required to traverse the obstacle course without breaking several beams of light that were scattered throughout the course. The younglings enjoyed the challenge, and were able to exercise their abilities with the Force while having a good time. Vyntyr was not much excited by the Art of Movement... She rarely completed the course very well, because her body was too tight and weak to perform the more complex motions required.

Breath Control was the next ability discussed, and was a technique that allowed the Jedi to control their body's instinct to shut down if deprived of oxygen, and allowed them to control the air in their lungs to make it last even longer than normal. A master of this technique was said to be able to hold their breath for days if need be. This was an incredibly useful power when the air was thin or nonexistent, such as in space or underwater. Combined with a Force Shield or some sort of artificial barrier, it could even be used to seal out toxins that were in the air, and ensure the Jedi's survival when they were exposed to such things.

The Center of Being technique was an interesting one. It was a lightsaber stance that opened the practitioner to the ebb and flow of the Force and provided the ability to focus and defend against any manner of attack with concentrated Force power. The Force would guide your hand to block and parry the attacks with your lightsaber, protecting you from harm. Vyntyr mused that she might even be able to supplement her niman style with this ability, and could further increase her defense in this manner, since she was hoping to use the Force for her offense, it would balance her out to use it for her defense as well.

The next ability discussed was on the topic of curato salva and was specifically concerned with purging the body of toxins. It allowed the practitioner to cleanse their body of toxins and poisons that would otherwise impair or harm the individual. A species that was vulnerable to alcohol, for example, could use this ability to purge their body of alcohol and be able to consume vast quantities of the drinks concerned without actually feeling or showing the effects. This particular application was useful when the Jedi had to break bread or get in close with someone, as alcohol was a powerful tool for socialization.

Force healing was next, and Vyntyr perked up. She may have started to drift off earlier, but she was focused and rapt now. There was no room for ignorance in this field, as it highly interested Vyntyr. Force healing allowed a Jedi to mend flesh and mind, repairing wounds in the body and scars in your memories. By mastering the application of this ability, one could mend cuts, tears, and broken bones in days, not weeks. Some masters could even heal wounds almost instantly, and could exercise this power even on others who fell, though it was not so easy on someone else as it was on yourself.

Vyntyr wanted to hear more; how was it accomplished, how did one master this ability? But no, this class was merely an overview, not a specifically detailed lecture on Force Healing. Vyntyr was disappointed, but understood. At least she knew about the ability, and could try to train on it when she was allowed to. As younglings, their study of the Force was closely guarded to give them control over the basics before they started branching out and did irreparable damage to their studies by misunderstanding the Force on a complex level. It was hard to retrain someone who had learned something wrong, and it was often the first step down the path of the Dark Side to begin breaking the rules to gain power.

Force speed followed, and the master went into detail on this one, as it was a power the younglings were meant to be practicing. By focusing the Force into one's muscles, they could accelerate to speeds that were unattainable to non-sensitives, and it was this ability that made Jedi such powerful warriors and such capable acrobats. By manipulating your own body in such a way, incredible feats of strength and agility were managed with ease. Jedi were taught this power at a young age to teach them the connection between their own bodies and the Force, and it was one of the first lessons the Jedi learned on their path to becoming one with the Force.

The hibernation trance was an ability that the Jedi could use to master their own metabolism, and would make them seem to all the world as dead. By focusing their energies, the Jedi could slow their metabolism to a near-standstill, using much less air, water and food than a normal living being. This method of hibernation was dangerous, as it could appear that the Jedi were actually dead, and they might be disposed of, and so the Jedi would often impose a trigger phrase that would wake them up. A Jedi could survive for quite some time before dehydrating or starving to death, while the Force maintained their bodies through the hibernation.

The final ability discussed would be tapas. Tapas was an ability that could be used to stay warm in a cold environment, and was not only useful in arctic climates but also in the void of space if necessary. Mastery of this technique would allow a Jedi to recycle and maintain their body heat so that they might never suffer from frostbite or freezing temperatures, and could maintain peak physical performance in such situations. Vyntyr noted the ability and made sure to schedule it for practice in the future. She needed to be ready for anything, and she made sure to write down all of the lessons taught today for future practicing whenever she was able.

Meditation for attunement 1
Class was released and Vyntyr proceeded to the meditation chamber to assimilate what she'd learned. She sat and closed her eyes, meditating on what the master had told them about Control powers and attempting to understand the theory and practice behind them. She tried to imagine what each one would feel like, and began working on her lesson plan for how she was going to practice these techniques. She had spent too long practicing Alter techniques, and needed to focus on mastering herself more than the world around her. She would begin with Force Speed. Using the Force to exercise her own muscles might make her a more capable warrior.

She felt the lesson sink into permanency as she meditated, and when she rose, she had a plan. She would work on her Speed today, and would relish the experience. She could imagine the feeling of the Force coursing through her body and making her more powerful. It would be incredible. She proceeded to one of the obstacle courses and challenged herself to completing it. Naturally, it was a combination of Speed and Jump obstacles, so she would have to exercise both of the abilities, but she figured that if she were doing this, she might as well have some degree of challenge to it.

Vyntyr gathered her energy to begin the obstacle course with the first obstacle; a large pit that needed to be cleared. She felt herself accelerate a not insignificant amount, and felt like her body was moving more comfortably even at this increased pace. When she reached the edge of the pit, she stepped and attempted to gather the Force like a spring to launch herself over the opening, to land safely on the other side. That was the plan, anyway. This was usually where Vyntyr messed up. The physicality of the motion tended to clash with her body's natural workings.

And it was where Vyntyr messed up this time, too. She made to leap, but a sharp pain in her leg drained her of any force, and she went tumbling into the hole. Ow... One of the nearby knights approached the hole and asked if she was hurt. "No... I'm alright. Just my pride." She slowly stood up and looked to the top of the hole. Well, she could try to climb out, but why not jump? It would be more practice, anyway. She began to focus the Force into her body again, building her muscles to lightning speed and pushing her body to its limits. She tried to ignore the pain in her scars as she moved.
