Anxious Spirit

Either way, the bullet ripped more form its form, and the body of the creature began to look more skeletal than human as fog slowly cleared in patches. Horns, the mutated beginnings of a wing, the bladed and spiked tail, and the pinpricks of red in its hollow sockets remained; the only indication this had ever been Stormy the hunter was the strange imprint of chains along its hip where a Disney charm had once hung.

The creature hissed with pain as something sliced at its bone-shaped leg, jagged mouth parting as reddened smoke escaped. Its tail came at Evan like a sword swipe, bladed edge first, to try and knock him off the ground. It was losing hope of ever finding Home, but it could certainly try and destroy these intruders nevertheless.

Candace's petty words were left in silence, as Aisa focused on Dakota.

"You? Perhaps the best you'll do is a mere knock." Aisa lifted her scythe, to allow Dakota's attack to slice her. It was such pitifully low damage-- Or perhaps it affected her more deeply than she cared to let on, pressing her scythe against his weapon.

"I wonder what Eris ever saw in you-- I thought she preferred more of Caelius's type."

Aisa fingered Dakota's coat for a brief moment, violet eyes scanning every inch of him. How dare he, for Eris to have even minimal intimate contact with this hunter.. Aisa would have to include him on her selective list, to strike down later.

Candace visibly bristled when the heir touched Dakota. "Dakota." She hissed, putting a hand against her side to keep the bandage up. "Get away from her." She was still bothered by the 'good doctor' comment.

He found her, among the others.

A third arrow was strung into Mengyao's bow, released silently and deftly.

"I can do a lot better Babe." Dakota didn't apperciate her closeness, the way she was fingering his coat. A half disgusted sneer was hidden behind a sneer in general. If he was a trainee...he would've agreed with her. A knock on her door and scampering back to the shadows.

He was a full grown hunter now and he was about to show her why.

"What can I say? I was nicer to her then the other hunters. My mistake on that one. One kiss and suddenly I'm the punching bag of the head princess." He snickered at her, noting the way her eyes burned. "Let me guess, all the heirs are tight aren't they? you guys just love and possess each other and everyone you like. Guessing Caelius and the Doctor land in that batch. Must burn your britches, Aisa that Eris would sink low enough to kiss a hunter. Especially one like me."

He leaned down to whisper at Aisa. "Maybe it's cause me and her got some sorta of firey attraction. Something you'd never understand." he pushed her Scythe away and let the fire from his sword engulf her. "Since Death is just so cold."

The laptop finally changed screens, revealing a message in blaring red text:

FATAL ERROR: CANNOT EXECUTE FILE.

That was it then. This was the end to this chaos that reigned everywhere. Perhaps the Insanity would swallow them up first or perhaps the Hunters could systematically consider their own deaths. Time was running out but what did it matter anyway? Perhaps those Horsemen who were lost gained a moment of clarity as well, of something they were here for, as they watched something they were holding close to them, their distortion crystals finally bleed into a thick black before cracking.

In response, their bodies grey cold, almost still. They stopped attacking. The last of their consciousness drifted away as the Insanity took everything else, reducing them to lifeless statues of their former selves.

It was silent for a second.

Then the sand underneath them finally burst open, revealing what had been waiting for them all this time. Rows and rows of grey incisors, fins that seemed to flap uselessly in the sand, a leviathan of a creature that spanned to what seemed like the sky. The triangular monument - it's fin, raised into the air, it churned forward-

- And with a single snap swallowed all those trapped in its cage. It was a painless death. It would be okay-

-TICK.

Sand. It roared and stung all bare skin and flash, unnaturally sharp. The second sensation was the wind, enough to blind all other senses: sight, hearing, even the voice itself until everything was lost in a maelstrom of murky pale yellows, greys, whites.

For the Hunters, this was enough to render them nearly invalid the second they stepped through the portal. It was enough for them to stumble around confused as they tried to gain any steady footing, as the ground purposely flattened under them and then caved downwards, thwarting all plans beyond confusion, beyond the stinging pain as the sand moved unrelenting.

For the Lost Clans this was almost second nature. Especially those of Famine would find themselves almost at peace. They were not for lack of a better term, swimming in their element but instead familiar with the dangers of the environment. The deserts of Famine were always relentless, it was wise to seek cues, from the way the wind moved in bursts, from the footholds in the sand to always find their way home.

And speaking of Home-

- For those who were slightly grey they could feel it. Something else lingered just at the precipice between hallucination and imagination, something as if slumbering right beneath their feet, waiting to be called so they could go Home together. It was barely below the level of a whisper, easily drowned out with the torrential environment and yet-

- Without warning everything stopped. The wind simply dropped, the ground steadied itself, just slightly as the sun began to burn, unrestrained. There in the desert were several shapes, odd and very human-like, white and black, speckled in an almost circular shape around each other.

Horsemen. Hunters.

At first neither parties moved. There was simply a moment where too much had assaulted the senses all at once that it left the brain very little imagination to speculate on what to do next. And if that was not already uncomfortable enough, there stood between them all, in the absolute center, a very large triangular monument. It wasn't exactly a pyramid, instead entirely a flat triangle, raised twenty feet with it's highest point up in the air, casting a long shadow to one side. Around it in perfect circles, looped twice, three times if not half-covered by the sand were odd marble pedestals etched with glowing dark red runes, twelve to be exact, perfectly spaced out between each other.

For a moment, in almost sheer disbelief at the defiance in physics, the triangle seemed to move exactly one notch to one side, from one rune to the second-

- Until it became evident that what moved was not the object itself but it's shadow, as the item stayed stationary in one place. The shadow cast itself on a rune shaped like a sickle, and then stopped.

And then everything seemed to explode at once amongst all arrivals. Sam tapped her headset. "Spread out! Don't let them corner you together. Those big ones are dangerous, who the ******** told us it was safe here?" The Death Hunter gave Mark a look, the actual Death assistant just as shell-shocked themselves.

"I don't know I um- uh, requesting back-up," Mark began to madly type onto his tablet laptop, "I'm getting a signal loaded, god, I need time." The last part practically came out in a whine as he set down several wires haphazardly, right next to the monument.

"Fine!" Sam snapped back, "You heard the useless guy. At this point we still outnumber them but don't get too overconfident, the vicious ones you're looking at are Heirs, I'm sure you recognize them. They're probably back to resurrect their dead queen or something, whatever it is you can bet this-" She pointed to the triangle - "Is bad news. It's sending some strange signal too, I'll work on getting it disabled, you guys work on the ponies."

At the same time several of the horsemen could feel something shifting underneath them. The world seemed to flicker grey for a second. A first nothing and then a surge of anger. "ThEY aRe TaKinG oUR HOME." It felt irrational at first, and then a little sad. It sounded like Medea a little bit, and then of their lost clans and kin, and then even of the horsemen clans leaders, the ones who had watched over the old islands, guarded them for centuries and ultimately reminded them of their true Homes.

As if in response to this strange whisper, large red spikes, bone-like rose from all corners around them, effectively trapping them inside the monument with the Hunters. It felt like an arena. It felt like a slaughterhouse. Thin glowing red lines snaked across the ground, forming patterns and patterns of runes along the sand. Even the sun itself seemed to mellow out, turning a deep orange.

The path had been set and the outcome inevitable.

MEMORY AND STUFF

AN IMPORTANT NOTE:
- Even though everything has mysteriously "reset", the players (except the NPCs) ALL REMEMBER EVERYTHING for some reason (of the last round that happened). If you died, you remember up to your death
- HP CHARGES ALL STATS ARE RESET.

OOC

ALL PLAYERS:

- This event is a normal FREE FOR ALL PVP with a special event trigger. This is how it works:
- ALL PHRASES IN BOLD RED are SPECIAL EVENT TRIGGERS. A Gm posting SPECIAL EVENT TRIGGERS means you can investigate or interact with any of their posted triggers simply by posting an rped special event trigger of your own.

- Special Event Triggers are considered CAUSES. They must be posted in bold red. You are allowed to have ONE per RP post you make, a max of four per round (this is round 2, until the next gm post, where I will react to SOME special event triggers). Consider them like the "investigation" posts you do in those search and find orps. You can only make a Special Event Trigger if it directly affects one person or more (please quote them). They MUST be battle related or in REACTION to a GM SPECIAL EVENT POST ONLY. Be SPECIFIC when describing it, as by creating a SPECIAL EVENT TRIGGER you are basically allowing a GM to intervene and POTENTIALLY create an EFFECT from your trigger post. For example:

- Sue defended Bob and Mary and threw her shoe at Steve. After the end of the round a GM may decide that Sue gets a bonus boost for defending two people next round and that her shoe falls into a sinkhole which actually reveals a pot of gold.
- Bob got angry and struck Jim with his sword along the side. At the end of the GM round the GM may decide that Jim is now slightly disabled and cannot attack for one turn.
- Mary look at look at the large red, bone-like spikes. At the end of the round, the GM may decide to reveal a little more of the nature of the spikes are to Mary.
So on forth.

Regardless of whether or not you want to do a special event trigger, if someone is making a special event trigger at you and quotes you in battle, please still respond to them normally. If someone is not making a special event trigger but still battling you, still respond to them okay. Posting something in bold red just means you're flagging me and saying "Hi Zoo notice this phrase my character did! I hope something fun happens with this!". You can respond with ANOTHER special event trigger ie: Mary countered the sword blow with a blow of her own by X and Y, OR simply just counter without a special event trigger ie: Mary got hurt and ran away. Think of this as still first and foremost a battle PRP, where you are basically highlighting your very notable points of actions (if you wish)! The only thing you are doing when posting a special event trigger is notifying a GM that you are okay to additional special events happening because of your trigger.

** IN THIS EVENT , INTERACTION IS KEY. By Interacting with other players as well as the GM given posts and creating SPECIAL EVENT TRIGGERS of your own, you will be changing the outcome of this battle to however you so manipulate. These things will directly affect your characters and those around you. **

ALL HORSEMEN

ALL HORSEMEN:
- Regular battle rules apply
- All players may attack three turns this round. Make sure you wait at least 6 hours or until your target has replied before making another turn. A turn "attack" also includes defending and healing. Reaction posts are unlimited. You may only do a max of 4 Special Effect Triggers one round, consider everything else as normal.
- Distortion is in full effect here
- Due to this being their natural environment and also due to the shift in Fear:
- All Heirs have their Hp maxed at 150 (except Asia who is at 100).
- All other Horsemen have their HP maxed at 100. They do 2d10-6 damage.
- If a horsemen DISSIPATES they are GONE. This only happens if they go below -10 HP or lower or fail a gmed part of the event/ are gmed dissipating. If this happens, they cannot reappear until a GM has granted them approval again by directly mentioning what happens to those who dissipate. Make sure to keep track of everyone who is attacking and defending or healing you by quoting them and noting who quoted you!

ALL HUNTERS

ALL HUNTERS:
- Regular battle rules apply
- All players may attack three turns this round. Make sure you wait at least 6 hours or until your target has replied before making another turn. A turn "attack" also includes defending and healing. Reaction posts are unlimited. You may only do a max of 4 Special Effect Triggers one round, consider everything else as normal.
- Runic weapons are usable
- Due to this being their natural environment and also due to the shift in Fear:
- Hunters CANNOT pendant back. If a Hunter is injured they need to be either HEALED or DEFENDED by the usual means (runic bandages that hunters have earned, their own Fear charges, defense rolls, etc). Make sure to keep track of everyone who is attacking and defending or healing you by quoting them and noting who quoted you!

By the time Mimsy realized her mistake, it was far too late.

She really had to stop doing this. Why did she go anywhere without proper equipment to collect samples? Her negligence was bordering idiocy at this point, and she found herself wanting to absolve herself of any responsibility and claim that the general mentality of her fellow hunters was rubbing off on her. There was a sliver of hope in the thought that collecting some of its exterior under her fingernails might provide a few meager samples.

Halving her efforts to pry the structure from the ground, she moved one hand towards the protrusion, pushing her fingertips against it to test its sturdiness. The heat was getting to her; the form didn't give way to her touch, but it sure felt as if something was pushing back. Her fingers curled to scrape her nails against it.

<...and the gremble in the rhythless air, the shimebling breath she dropped once there...>

Svensyl was singing again, a quiet, somber tune, tinged with the jovial edge that the Jabberwocky could never avoid. She had trained herself to ignore his musical accompaniment by now, but the words slipped in with the shifting grains of sand, and she lost her own breath and snatched it back, a startled gasp that filled her lungs with sandgrains and inevitability.

<...heartburst and terrifation through the-->

--jaws that bite, the claws that catch. He stopped singing, replaced by a rattling screech that cut through her thoughts, the refusal to believe; this was not how the tale went at all, repeated over and over and over through history, the blade didn't fall, the blade didn't fail.

Something sounded like an awful hiss, from the thing or the great upheaval of the sand around it as it came to life. She didn't shrink back or move to strike, opting to assess the situation, expression too calm as she tried to apply any knowledge she could to avoid her imminent destruction.

But this was not an exam, and there was no correct answer that might be illuminated with context.

There were no regrets that flooded in, no bitter realizations that she should have listened to Dakota, should have stayed near Lucky. She did not take the time to be infuriated by the fact that she did not outlive Clerise. She felt no pangs of longing for anyone, no miserable thoughts that she was being torn from anyone too soon, no pity for those who were foolish enough to care and might mourn her absence. Weakness and affection went hand in hand, and her fragility against something so monstrous was evident enough without her head filling with emotional irrationality. Her fingers shook, sweat stinging at the still-tender skin of the brand on her arm, weapon slipping from her hand and into the ocean of desert around her.

Curiosity had done nothing but propel her towards excellence, earning rewards and solutions to theorems and ribbons in the science fair, and she had long ago discounted that stupid feline proverb when discovery was so satisfying. As terrible as the timing might have seemed, that same satisfaction was an effervescent surge within her, mind dancing through a checklist of things the structure was against things the structure was not.

A single stab of disappointment reminded her that she had been wrong. Was wrong. That her faith in her own intelligence had been unfounded. That she could be hundreds of feet beneath the surface of the Franco–Swiss border, eyes on the results of a collision of invisible particles, alive.

The shrieking subsided, and Svensyl began to hum a shattered tune.

<You should know.> A row of teeth caught beneath her ribs, forcing their edges past coat and clothing and flesh, a dull tearing sound following the quick motion that yanked her from the ground. She tried to swallow air but her lungs wouldn't fill, a thick, dark stream of blood bubbling past her lips.

<I should have told you in the meeting woods.> The sound of crunching bones followed the very visible collision of lines of teeth and a pale human form. She made no sounds of anguish, and if she still had any consciousness, she might have noted that death was nothing like she imagined. Hardly even comparable to the false sensations that came with being copied into a solid statue.

<I mocked the name you chose, but Mimsy, Mimsy, MIMSY, it fit you and I was so sick, because you didn't know but it was like you couldn't, COULDN'T'N'T have known it means-->

One, two, one two, and through and through, the pointed teeth went snicker-snack.

The sun still shone the wrong color for this time of day, matching the crimson of a body on the wrong side of existence.

Patting Jake on the shoulder, Robert finally got up and turned around. He'd missed the deaths, and that was for his own good. Now, all he saw was the horror that reminded him so much of Julie, in the vague, barely recognizable image of his best friend. He stared at it, watching with dumbfounded shock as people who loved him, attacked him. He didn't try to stop him - and he didn't help. He just watched, distant as a horror movie played on a small tv.

Because none of it could really be true. In the real world, Jordan would never be that monster. In the real world, Mimsy was too smart to be dead. In the real world-

Robert had no real world left.

It was funny, that his thoughts had led him there at that very moment. The world around him exploded, destroying everything visible until his eyes closed and left it nothing to destroy. He felt the sting of sand on his skin, and covered his eyes, until he felt nothing. Nothing left but -

Mark. Sam. Their voices gave off a very disorienting sense of dejavu. When Robert opened his eyes again, everything he'd refused to believe was gone, and things were back the way they'd been when they first got here.

"I knew it."

He really was never going to believe anything was real, again.

Deryk stared in disbelief is the computer gave a fatal error message.

"What!? Really? Nooononononononooooooo...." he whined out before slumping down. All that work, and it was for naught. Just make his death quick. He closed his eyes as a large shadow loomed over head.

Well. He tried.

Then, all of the sudden, it was like dejavu.

"...Wait."

They were still alive. MARK was still alive. It was playing exactly as it was earlier.

Recalling what happened earlier Deryk crossed the red and yellow wires before they could be cut.

"MARK! Don'tyoudaredie. Your laptop is hell to break into!" he cried out at the assistant.
PostPosted: Sun May 05, 2013 7:47 pm

No. No no no. They couldn't do this again. They couldn't be stuck in a time loop. Ami KNEW she'd been here before. There was Mark, still alive, saying the things he had moments before. This was there doing, the horsemen. She'd been caught in a temporal loop before, when she was in their prisons.

This time, she took action. She turned to Deryk. "Run it again. This time make it work." She looked at the twelve pillars, turning to the horsemen. They were standing in a clock, weren't they. She was angry. It was only then that she noticed the shadow, dancing in the runes. She addressed the shadow: "What did you do?" She approached the sickle-like rune, which the shadow had transformed into. "What did you do to this place?" She even went so far as to prod the rune with her glaive.

Gritting her teeth, she managed a look of smugness when the horsemen turned around having been shot by her when trying to attack Deryk. No, she didn't like to be ignored, one of the traits she apparently shared with Xedis, but it was more so she just wanted to inflict pain on him in any way possible. Too bad she couldn't stay focused enough to inflict that pain.

"Oh, so kind of you to take notice." She answered, ever word dripping with sarcasm. Wincing slightly, she attempted to shrug off the sudden sting she felt, when jabbed with the small blade in his hand. "Hah! Too bad for you then. But something looks oddly different about you as well. Did you always have those scars? Hmm?" Well, sufficed to say, she was at least proud to know she had managed to leave some marks of her own on him.

Still holding onto Mark's lifeless body, she glanced over just in time for the reset to occur, causing everything to revert to when they had just arrived back here. "What..?" Looking from face to face, she blinked, a little stunned to find that everyone who had died were still alive, including one scruffy death assistant. It was safe to say, Kat looked as though she just saw a ghost. Maybe she did.

Either way, she was going to be sure to keep a certain horseman away.

Aisa glanced over at Candance, noting the way her possessive natured seemed so overly dramatic, until she reflected back at their earlier snippets of conversation. What had triggered this young female's attention towards her again..

... It was mention of the Doctor, wasn't it?

"I believe I see now.. You'd like me to stay away from the doctor too. But unfortunately I'm rather fond of him so I'm afraid I cant indulge-"

Perhaps she was going to remark to Dakota about how humans were so full of it, how Eris liked to burn her lovers to death, how a body of flames was one of the most beautiful sights-- until it all reset.

Back to the beginning. So much for the concept of permanence.

Dakota hissed as he looked at Aisa and then....They were back.

Back with Mimsy? At the runes? What the ******** ******** was alive. And headed right for the runes again. "Okay nope. Nope." he picked her up and threw her over his shoulder and headed to where the hunters were. No one was fanning out anywhere.

"Candace! Jordan! Rep!?" he hissed as sand shifted underneath the weight and he was looking around again. "Oay Mimsy, Note to self. We don't touch the ruins..And Don't let Aisa find us okay? Because if that Death pony finds me, pretty sure I am dead meat. DEAD MEAT."

he dropped the life hunter near Mark and then set himself by the death assitant.

Melvin stood, waiting for his eyes to adjust from when he sand settled, and then blinked. He was alive. Patting his body and looking down, he couldn't help but give a crazed smile as he looked around. "I'm alive." He whispred. "We're alive!" He said to everyone else near him.

What the hell just happened? They died! He had be a snack for that sand beast right -

His eyes shot down to look at the ground under his feet and then around. Everything was set the same again, and his eyes went to the spikes sticking out all around. Spikes of creatures that had killed the hunters around them and turned them into - something else.

"The spikes!" His mind was shattered, in a state of survival panic.

"We need to get out of here." He said, and went towards Mark before moving to the nearest spike and firing at it.

They were back at the start. Back at the beginning again.

Mengyao felt a surge of anger, of fury. He took a step back, forgetting the measly humans for the time being and searching out those of importance instead, those for whom he did not want to see injured (and in the wolf's case, injured by anyone other than himself).

Who are they to pretend they are better than us?

It hurt to look at Lifen, but he looked for her anyway.
