With a rumbling roar, Mkazo whirled to face the snapping jaws of the earth-colored wild dog. A snarl contorted his features as he swung, his heavy paw smashing into the side of the creature's head. Unbalanced, it staggered, and then another hard blow put the dog down for the count. Turning his head to spit at the ground, the muscular dark lion sneered at his fallen opponent. "Well, that's one mutt down," he declared.

Keegan wouldn't bother pretending to be excited about digging when everyone else was out having missions. She tried to imagine what they were doing. For some reason an image of hyenas popped into her little mind, but having never seen hyenas, she just assumed everyone was out fighting really cool weird monsters.
But digging just wasn't doing her much good her paws were too small! Not like Fia's or Vesta's, which could scoop up plenty of sand at once. So she was pleased when another activity was suggested. "Rocks! Okay, I'd be cool with rocks." She nodded, yes. Rocks were good. She tried to stand on her hind paws for a bit, to see better, but wind made her flop pathetically onto her haunches and give up.
"Where?"

With a smug grin on her face, Vatra trotted up to her parents and siblings. Her awe at the sky-water had quickly turned into a realization that she could slip away for some unattended time in the chaos, and so she had. It wasn't that much fun escaping by herself, though. Maybe if she'd found her reject brother to heckle...but no. It had taken some time to find her family in the dark and the wet and what seemed like the entire pride out and about digging holes, but she'd done it!

Some were enjoying the scuffle more than others. Even with her comrades falling all around her, a bright brown wild dog was bounding around snapping at heels. She seemed to be laughing. "Is that the best you lions got?"

 Eld had joined the group going down to the right, and he hadn't had any problems getting down quietly. It would have been easier if the band of canines had just given up without a fight, but Eld was secretly glad that they hadn't. A good fight was just what he needed.
Some of their enemies had already been knocked out, but there were many hyenas and at least one had managed to slip between the larger lions and escape. He wasn't used to many smaller enemies and it took some time to figure out a good way to fight.
"Ow!" he yelped, and spun around to face a mud colored mutt that had just tried to take a bite out of his rear leg. No real damage was done, but it had stung and it pissed him off. "You're mine," he growled and lunged forward. He didn't use his claws, but trusted that the size difference would work in his favor once again. A tackle and a pounce later he was sitting on the dog. She wasn't going to bite anyone else today.

A particularly vicious looking hyena darted through the ranks, following alongside the leader as she made a go for Elcca. He broke off at the last second, turning to face a lion across the field. He seemed old- and one of his legs looked mangled from a prior fight.
He snarled and charged.

Alya listened as the canines spoke, tense. The implication that the lions on her side were "weaker" and "less trained" made her jaws snap. Oh, they'd show them, if given the chance.
And when they did, when the group of dogs split and moved towards them, the lioness couldn't help but smirk just a little bit, surging forward herself as a snarl left her maw. In the scuffle, Alya looked up only to have her eyes meet by the charging grey hyena. Her teeth gnashed and she darted for it, as well. He was old, it seemed, and had a weak leg, and the lioness wasn't going to let herself miss and opportunity to take advantage. She pulled low before launching forward, claws outstretched, aiming the brute of her weight to topple him into the side with the mangled leg.
And she was successful! Alya snapped her jaws at the hyena as she stood above him, pinning the canine down. "That's enough with you."

Mwale'kono was in the midst of the group, attempting to swat off hyena like flies from his face. He was neither succeeding nor failing, and kept the attempt going. They were careful not too injure anyone too greatly, a scare was all most of these dogs seemed to need, anyway.
He threw a hearty growl of support to Alya. "Good one!" and looked around the group for a weak opening.

When the very first hyena fell, only a dusky brown female seemed to notice. Bounding around the others, she grinned mischievously and tackled into the next.

The group was doing well... the ambushed seemed to be working. Hyenas and dogs were falling to the group and thus far, the number of escapes had been minimal.
Morag snarled threatening at the line of canines, warning them back until a brown female burst from the others and rushed at her. Taken by surprise, the dark lioness was tackled by a small, hard body, the pair going down together in a tangle of limbs.
It was in the spymaster's favor that she had weight and length on her side. She managed to throw the hyena off and roll over to pin her to the rock. Fangs bared, she growled down at her with her teeth perilously close to her eyes.
"Be still! Or I'll have to remove a limb or two to force you." She snarled.

Roihu watched from the sidelines, waiting for an injury to take care of. He couldn't risk being one of the few medics (if not the only true medic) present and fighting at the same time. But the Firekin were certainly holding their own - dogs and hyena alike were hardly any match for them. One after another, they were taken down and held - but not killed, nor knocked out. Clearly they had all learned from Roihu's mistake and were going to keep these alive for questioning... he wondered what happened to the other hyena from back in the wards. What were the chances that this was a trap? "The water level is rising," he called out a warning to the group. They would be alright for a little while, provided there were only a few canines left to be taken down, but he couldn't help but grow increasingly paranoid.
The dusky brown female slammed into the dust, tumbling away with the massive Morag. Finding herself pinned, she choked out, "I rok vai kaexo do," her strange, biting dialect taunting her captor. "Eaek do iv, isrv r'ar!" The hyena howled with cackling laughter, writhing under the weight of the Firekin, accepting the claws digging into her skin with delight. She clearly wasn't even acknowledging the fact that she was trapped - it was almost as if she wanted the fight. She attempted to turn her head to gnaw on the leg holding her, barely managing a few nips as her legs clawed at the air. She continued to babble her bitter language, not a single word in the common tongue leaking through.

Kosuke watched each hyena and wild dog get dispatched by the group. Not one seemed to escape, which made him grin. "You're no match, long-eared filth!" He then shifted, noticing the water now lapping at his paws. Roihu's words echoed and Kosuke's ears went back. The water was rising... He looked up at the sky, frowning deeply. Would it ever stop, or even let up? "We need to hurry up and find Ea and the cubs!"

Finally, only two remained. Of the entire group, they seemed to be the most vicious pair. Their rage towards the lions was intense, and they even lashed out at their own group during the onslaught. It seemed neither ruled over the group with any semblance of loyalty.
Scheherazade, the black female, seemed particularly outraged at the poor turn out.
"Who made it through? Skall?" she snarled to the male.
"The coward didn't even try to attack them," the male responded in a gruff retort.
Scheherazade practically shook with rage. With the water continuing to rise, fighting was a bit more difficult. She spat out a clump of red fur, and looked to her companion. "If Skall gets to the others, he'll ruin the plan. Hold them off."
The male seemed surprised to be suddenly left on a suicide mission. But Scheherazade was fast- and large. She slammed past one of the lions who had just pinned down another of her kin, and then started straight up the cliffside. The male was surrounded.
But neither was he a coward. He started to ram into any lion that dared try to stop the other hyena's climb. Moreso than the others, he seemed to have some semblance of combat training.
Someone had to stop him!

In addition, if you can roll to 30 in only five posts, Scheherazade's climb will be stopped.

Huozin lashed out at the male hyena that was lashing out viciously, though not wildly. He'd been taken a bit by surprise by the speed with which everything had happened, and refused to be left out...or to let these two apparent leaders get away.
Unfortunately his blow, if it landed, had been glancing and the red lion cursed under his breath.

Mwale followed suit, and thought he was close, it had a similar effect, and was more successful in swiping the air in front of his nose very closely indeed. Hopefully the sheer amount of lions would be enough to deter him. He doubted he would be able to face them all, and he supposed he wouldn't do much damage, either.
