All the questions seemed to be too much for the old monkey. He pressed his hands on his head and shook back and forth, nails digging into the skin. A low whine eeked out of his throat.

His friend growled. "He doesn't know anything, even if he did see it. He's just an old monkey."

"But he might be the only one who has seen this monster," Veru continued, cutting the leopard just short. "Even if we just got some information about it, we could track it better."

At around this point the old monkey was listening to Sandor and the others talk about bringing him the monster's head. His eyes managed to grow even wider, and even the safety of his friend's grip was not enough to keep him in place. "No, no, no--" he mumbled running until his back was up against the tree. As if to comfort himself he started rubbing his hands in the still drying red goo, and began to draw on the rocks.

This was going to be tricky, Veru thought. The old monkey wasn't exactly in the best mental condition, and their group was too large to just take him aside and try to make nice. What they needed was a lead. "Is there some place the monkey has been avoiding? Or maybe a place he's been going to more than usual? We just need something."

The silver leopard closed her eyes, as if considering. "Despite your accusations, he is not our pet. He comes and goes when he pleases."

The white lion furrowed his brow. For so many leopards, they weren't exactly the most helpful. Could they really not have noticed this monster? Or perhaps...was it a creature that they would not recognize as a threat? That was an interesting notion, what if-

Suddenly, the monkey started banging his hands on the ground. "No, no, no-"

The blue leopard lowered his head. "What's the matter?"

"To the bad place," the monkey said in half gibberish. Before any of his friends could console him, the little creature darted off and into the underbrush.

"Well, there goes our lead..." Veru sighed. But the white lion didn't wait for any decisions to be made, there was no time. Digging his claws into the wet stone, Veru hopped over the bush and gave chase.

arrow We'd better follow!

Roll a dice, 1-30. The number you roll determines how near you are to the monkey during the chase. 30=nearest, 1=farthest.

You may only roll once.

Uh oh! That was trouble. The monkey had been overwhelmed, and now he was on the run! Her first instinct was to give chase as well, but cubs couldn't really run fast. She scampered uselessly a few paces behind, despite that. Which might just get her in trouble, and in the way.

Fortunately, someone realized that before it was too late.

Moto'spaki didn't understand what might possess the cub to give chase, but if she stayed in the way like that she might get trampled. That was hardly ideal, so he quickly caught up with the little thing, and not so delicately shoved her into a bush. This wasn't meant to be a cruel act, however, and he doubted she'd get injured for it. Cubs were tougher than they were given credit for. "You should stay out of the way, cub." He advised. "You might get hurt." The little thing seemed a little surprised still, but nodded and didn't continue the chase.

The white male did, however. Once that matter was dealt with, Moto'spaki wasn't about to abandon Veru and whomever else was running to go off on their own, and he gave chase. Unfortunately, he had been slowed down by dealing with Kimaji. He couldn't really see the monkey up ahead, as it was rather small, but he managed to keep track of the chase by sound, movement and Veru.

As they all took off after the monkey Margukis found herself always behind, keeping near the middle of the crowd. She was no great sprinter and the tremors in her legs slowed her progress but she was keeping up. Dodging limbs and vines she went, following the monkey to this bad place. She wondered to herself where it was taking them to be so spooked. Wherever it was she hoped they were prepared.

The lioness let out a frustrated sound, before going after the monkey. Right behind her she heard someone following, and glanced back to see the wing-marked red lion. Well, if he wanted to follow her, so be it. She didn't want to be alone in this place, anyway. Not again. It was too creepy, and there was too much chance to get ambushed by.. Whatever was in here.

Bluu prided herself on her ability to negotiate, but sometimes it was best to remain silent so she said nothing and remained aloof during the standoff with the leopards. There were plenty of other voices raised and questions asked, demands made... no, her voice would only serve to add to the confusion.

When the monkey took off however, she acted. Running! This was what she was built for. She stayed close behind the monkey, still silent. It meant she would reach the bad place fist, but Bluu had never lost a race and certainly wasn't going to start now.

Ndege had also remained quiet during the showdown with the leopards, but mostly out of a growing sense of shame. It was true the monkey looked old and frightened. And she had snapped at the poor thing! Well, perhaps that was understandable given the red paint... nasty stuff. She stuck close to Lani and tried to get it off of her face, but only succeeded in smearing it around. How was she going to smell anything now? So much for being a great and mighty tracker.

When the monkey ran, Ndege sprang after him, desperate to keep him in sight since she could no longer track him by smell.

Baatar took the lead of the others and began to ran after the monkey too, unfortunately he was somewhat stronger than he was faster, and didn't really pride himself too much on giving a good chase. His splattered paws bounded off the ground, He was sure that the monkey had more to tell than he had, even though he wasn't in the best mental state.

Panting, he remained just short of the middle of the group that were chasing the monkey, one of the lions ahead was very close indeed. Was he going to lead them to more answers, or to danger?

Amali hesitated but as the group started to chase after the monkey, he followed along. He hadn't gotten a chance to hear Endesha's opinion and he lost his place near the front of the action but he was keeping up.

Pam had been considerably slow to react to the pitiful creature’s sudden departure. Before he knew it, everyone had started running after it and while he tried to catch up, he had never been particularly fast so he ended up near the tail of the group. He wondered if the monkey would lead them to the monster. If the leopards would follow and perhaps even attack them from behind while the group was distracted. If he would be able to keep up. Many things weighted on the young lion’s mind as he ran.

It took Rimma a moment to realize that the monkey had taken off and that they were chasing him, but as soon as it dawned on her, she was off like a shot. Warrior she might not be, but she was small, quick, and lithe. After learning to run in the swamplands that were her home, this jungle was no great challenge. Oh, it took a bit more twisting and dodging, but the ground was always firm under her paws, which was a great improvement from the soft, squishy, and sometimes watery paths in the swamps.

She certainly wasn't the closest behind the monkey, but she was well ahead of most of their motley hunting pack. She'd say this for the old creature, he was fast! She dodged a sudden low hanging branch, slowing her pace minutely to avoid braining herself on it, before once more taking up the chase. What in the world they'd do if they caught him, she had no idea, but she for one wasn't trying to catch him, only follow. He had seemed to know something about this monster of theirs, and she was hoping he was taking them towards more clues, rather than simply fleeing the scene.

And the monkey was off!

The hyena couldn't help but to wonder if the leopards were hiding something and the poor old monkey seemed absolutely terrified. The moment he shot off, however, she knew she had to follow and she gave chase. Besides, she didn't want to end up left alone out here and the others would surely do the same.

How positively rude. He hadn’t answered a single question! Although, really, Lani should not have expected so much of the poor old fellow. He was clearly in distress. Much more to worry about than a bunch of smelly old lions barking questions at him. And Lani was so small, after all, he probably hadn’t seen her. She kept quiet and tried to mold herself back into the group, when-

“Oh!” Lani yipped in surprise as the primate took off. She hadn’t quite heard what he said, but the group was moving. Lani scurried to keep up with them, trying to stay close to Ndege… but it was no use. The black dog was much too fast for her and had already pulled ahead of the group. Lani’s heart hammered in her chest with fear. What if Ndege got hurt?

She barked in frustration and quickened her pace, running as fast as she could on this slippery ground, with so many other animals to block her way.

“The bad place?” was all Tahir had time to whisper before the primate was off and nearly out of sight. He could hear it crashing through the underbrush, but the little fellow was much too fast and slight to see.

“Oh dear,” he muttered, frowning. But there was nothing for it. Everyone was following. Tahir was not so very interested in ‘the bad place’ but if he kept close and careful, perhaps he would get something out of it.

Long legs helped him here, as he took off running after the monkey. He was fast, aided mostly by his ungainly height, but not strong enough to bash his way through the lions. Tahir ended up following right behind the tail of a black lioness, marked with gold. He had temporarily left his protector behind, but perhaps this new one would do.

“Horrible business, this,” he crooned to Rimma’s flank,” That poor dear monkey.”

Rimma was so startled by the sudden canine voice just beside her haunches that she nearly missed a leap to avoid large, looping tree roots, her paws tipping it and nearly sending her sprawling. She staggered forward a few step, wobbling, before catching her stride again and continuing. She flashed a swift, disgusted look back at the maned wolf. Her lip curled as her Swampie nature reasserted itself. He wasn't even feline, and spoke in an oily tone of voice. Her skin crawled, making her shudder her shoulders as they ran. She was highly tempted to use the excuse of one of these jumps to shove a hind paw in his face, but refrained. If they did come across the monster, they'd need all the help they could get, even lowly canines. Perhaps they'd make good monster fodder, come to think of it.

She shook herself out of these unkind and snarly thoughts, ducking under some vines and throwing another look back at her running companion. She needed to stop making these kind of snap judgments. Perhaps he had good reason to be so ingratiating, she couldn't know such reasoning. Her tail twirled thoughtfully as she faced the uncomfortable truth that she had been taught to judge on the outward appearance only, that the pelt made the person. She still wasn't comfortable with the maned wolf right on her flank, but she tamped down her dislike, but still chose not to reply to him. She would put up with him, for principle's sake, but she didn't have to make friends. She finally gave Tahir a wordless grunt in answer and ran on.

And Mura thought that they would actually get a clue from the old monkey. She let out a sigh. She wondered if maybe if would be best just to let the monkey be and let him go on his way. He wasn't much help to him, despite the fact he had seen the monster. When he got away, she hesitated to follow, thinking if might be better to follow a different lead.

After seeing others in her small group leave, she decided she might as well, causing her to be near the middle, toward the back. She wondered where the monkey was headed and hoped the chase wouldn't last too long. The paint was making it difficult for her to run.

Souzan wasn't much for tlaking, but he was liek every other firekin in the army, he was a fighter, and so without even thinking about it, he sprung after the white lion, chasing the monkey's trail and as any good soldier, would be backup if they ran into anything.

Ruyken growled darkly as everyone suddenly jumped juts because some crazy primate decided to run off. Snarling he stood and lept clear of his branch, landing ont he ground silently and darting into the thick foliage. Yet it was not the monkey he was chasing, but the lions...

And maybe, just maybe, he would be able to shred the little beast later.
