~Resting post~

Despite her best efforts to run away as far away from him as she could, Manabu sensei eventually caught her by maneuvering around the corridor so she couldn't escape. He then moved with an inhumane speed, grabbing her arms and tied them together once, just to make sure he had her in a secure hold. Trying to kick him as hard as she could, (and incidentally, failing) she was hoisted up by her waist and neatly placed in the classroom, with a tied up Amaya inside. She didn't have any time for pleasantries however, as their sensei slapped a bit of tape on her mouth and continued to tie the other 9 knots securely, much to her panicked dismay.

Once she had been told of the class assignment that she was to undertake however, she stared at the teacher incredulously in a brilliant stupor of sudden stupidity. Looking from the sensei to her classmate, then to the bento box, only to look at their sensei again, she just sat there, merely watching as he went back out of the classroom. All this was just an elaborate setup for the Nawanuke no jutsu??? Mentally slapping herself for being so worried about what was happening, she just stared off into space with unfocused eyes. Of course he wouldn't have done anything bad to her, or eat her, for that matter. 'Well, it's not my fault he decided to act all suspicious and abduct us,' Sakura fumed inwardly as she vowed to give her cousin a good pounding for making her embarrass herself infront of the sensei, and on her first day too! Turning to the wall, she bumped her head on the wall a few times until she had calmed down again. Now was the time to focus, not lose her concentration and make the situation worse. That, and the smell of the bento was killing her stomach. Well, she'd need to get these blasted knots off her before doing anything else.

Turning around again, she saw Amaya san awkwardly sitting there, looking like she had been trying to get the knots off of herself. She didn't seem hurt anywhere besides being tied up, so that was a relief. Smiling the best she could, she tried to convey the message that she was ok, while dearly hoping she would ignore the screaming that had ensued outside. Next, glancing around, she found nothing sharp, and not even a protruded nail or a simple window to break for shards. If the situation became dire, she would look again, but for now nothing seemed to catch her eye. What a pity. Manabu sensei had chosen his room well. 'He must have checked the surroundings when placing the bento,' she figured as she tried to find out a way to get rid of these knots. Sakura would have asked Amaya as to how she had undone hers, but they weren't in the best of situations to hold a conversation with the tape on their mouths. Closing her eyes and leaning sideways against the wall, she got to work on her first knot on her wrists.

'Well, I'd better postpone my lunch with Yae and Amaya untill we all get this over with.' she sighed, as she tested her ropes. She had instinctively tensed up and pulled away the best she could when he was tying her up, like she was taught to before, and now she could feel some slack in some parts of the knots that were around her wrists and forearms. Starting with the lowest one near her fingers, she squirmed as she tried to get them off. Reaching with the tips of her fingers, she managed to hook the index finger into one of the knots and push chakra through the rope a little, trying to use it as an extension of sight, feeling with her chakra since she couldn't look at it herself. Feeling a bit of strength flow into her along with the flow, she pulled the knot and loosened it, moving her wrists to and fro to get free of the rope. After a couple minutes, it finally came free, and slid off her hands. Now the two ends of the rope dangled just where she could grab them, and Sakura was thrilled to have already gotten the first bond off. Hopefully, she would be able to get the rest off with such ease. Once she got to her forearms, she hoped they would be able to work together and get them off.

What's even less rational than arguing with your hair is having it retaliate. A stiff breeze suddenly swept the track. One side of Yae's hairdo whipped horizontally across her face, blinding her. Her foot set on a bump in the track, an imperfection near the inside of the track that was just big enough to skew her balance. She toppled over, her arms swinging blindly as she searched hopelessly for something to grab onto. Yae rolled over, face up. Her hand trembling in restrained fury, she brushed her face clear. After sitting up it took everything in her being not to scream out loud.

Yae stood up and dusted herself off. Immediately she launched back into the run. There was no point in thinking about it. If she stood around and thought about it she would certainly become increasingly negative. And so she didn't. Instead she ran, once again trying to lose herself in the mechanical harmony that came with good form. Everything else faded away. Her world consisted of her and the track. The sudden zen she had achieved seemed to resonate to her hair, which now refused to cause her grief. Another lap down; it's the homestretch now. At this pace she would be eating in no time. Now all Yae could think about is food. She was hungry, and that snapped her out of the fragile nirvana she had composed.

Yae's bubble burst, and then she thought maybe her kneecaps had too. The sudden realization of how tired she was really started to kick in. She was on her last legs, literally. If she fell now she might not get back up. But still she pressed on. It was only one more lap. All she had to do was finish one more lap. Of course she knew she could take a break, but she didn't want to. That would be terribly inefficient, especially since she was already some of the way into the lap. At this point it would definitely be better to tough it out, she decided silently with a determined nod.

Yae's empty stomach grumbled. Her body was rocked by a devastating earthquake of hunger. Suddenly the world started to spin. She stopped, and then dropped down to one knee as the world started spinning around her. So... hungry.

She crawled over to the side of the track. Yae was pretty sure she could get up, but was certain she wouldn't remain that way for long if she did. She had pushed herself too far, and it seemed she was paying the price now. The girl rolled over on her side, the cool grass pressing into one cheek. "Just... five minutes... And then," she sighed. Even speaking hurt now.

Trying again for the one just above the first knot, she bent her wrists as far as she could, sending busts of chakra into the rope to see if she could make it any weaker. It stood firmly however, and it seemed the knot was just out of reach of her fingers, as she clawed the rope and tried to pull it down. Yuki made an attempt to catch the ends of the rope that were hanging down and tried pulling on them to see which direction was going where, but it seemed to her that it was only tightening it, which made her immediately drop the ends and try picking at it again.

After a while, her hands began to get a little tired, and she rested her wrists as she thought of what was going on outside. If this much time had passed already, then Yae probably didn't get her signal, which meant that there wasn't any hope of her being saved now. Not that she needed saving, since it was an assignment that she would have to do herself anyway, but still, it was a little discouraging. Pushing herself back up in a sitting position and carefully rearranging her legs so she was in a formal seating method, she decided to try again using more chakra this time. After all, he had said this would need the use of chakra, so she guessed they would need to experiment with it in order to get free.

Yae closed her eyes. She found that peaceful state of mind again, the one where it was just her and the ground. Laying there in the grass, now only half-conscious, the girl felt some sort of surreal peace. A distant rumbling reminded her that she was hungry. But it was too far away for her to care. Her chest slowed in its heave, and she knew she was catching her breath. It was almost time to get up again, but she didn't want to. This place was much nicer than the dirt track. No. She would stay here a bit longer. The sunlight dialed in slowly. Rolling over she saw the vast blue of the sky above her. The breeze played across her hair.

A shadow seemed to cross over her. The Inuzaka boy, Yae assumed, though in her state there was no way to be certain. She didn't attempt to crane her neck and see. No point; if it was him he would be gone by now anyway. The darkness had helped snap her out of her delirious state. She sat up and looked around for a moment, confused. Something had happened on the track, just a second ago. All Yae could seem to recall was getting dizzy and then laying down. She had no idea how long she had been there, but she felt better now. Getting up, she limped toward the track. A bit of the energy from her recent trance still remained so she best put it to good use.

Yae started limping down the track. She was getting anywhere fast. The whole ordeal was really starting to take a toll on her. The only thing she could think of was giving up. How running a couple laps had ever given her this much trouble was beyond her comprehension. She couldn't figure it out even if she were in a pleasant and coherent state of mind. Everything around her was blurring, but not because of her speed. Pretty soon the dizziness set in again, and she went stumbling for the grass. The soft green blades cushioned her legs as she knelt. She could see the fight still going on in the distance.

Watching as Fudou stumbled backwards from the blow Shiro began to plan his next move. He was expecting another grapple attempt so he he prepared himself to jump to the side and out of the way. Instead of trying to grapple the boy surprised him with a kick aimed at the mid section. However Akio misjudged the distance between them and his foot fell short of Shiro's body. Now was the time to strike, to hopefully grasp his victory by pushing always forward. Shiro tried to send his own kick back at Fudou but being that they are the same height his kick fell short as well.

'These blasted knots,' she grumbled to herself as she struggled to undo the ties that were holding and restraining her from eating her bento. Agh! It was infuriating to have to sit there, not doing anything. Plus, her previous attempt hadn't got anywhere, which left her to think. Since the sensei had told them to use chakra, she might as well try it out. There were a couple of theories that she could choose, but she guessed she would go ahead and just focus it to her arms and see how it went. Making a thin barrier on her arms, she tried to shimmy down the ropes so that her hands could reach them, effectively doing so with a little of a struggle, pushing and pulling the knots as she did so. After a while, the lower knot on her wrist became untied, and Sakura felt for the opening, untying it swiftly once she had her hands on it. Now that was two down, and eight more to go until she could eat!

The child didn’t sit there long before Ko-sensei burst into the room with Sakura over his shoulder. He set Amaya’s classmate as far away as possible and slapped some tape over her mouth before continuing on with his knot tying. Watching Sakura’s face change and her eyes dart around from her to the food to their sensei was priceless and the young girl audibly giggled; though it wasn’t much of a giggle with the tape over her mouth. What had he done to make it so sticky?! Once more Ko-sensei explained the task, though this time it was for Sakura’s sake. Outside the door, the Keiji could hear him being addressed by some of his colleagues. It was no surprise that people had questions after an academy student had been screaming bloody murder in the hallways. However, now Amaya had to figure out whether Sakura was clever for making the connection between their suspicious instructor and the rope on the ground or if she had just spooked and not really made any connection. Having heard her go on about being eaten, it was probably the second one. Who knew Sakura would be paranoid?

None the less, Amaya tried to extend a greeting by wiggling her right shoulder almost like she was waving “hello” and smiling; though the smile was difficult if not impossible to see under the tape. However, apparently she had done so a bit too late because Sakura began hitting her head on the wall. Amaya’s eyes grew wide trying to figure out what Sakura was doing and if she was alright. Thankfully, once the pink haired girl was done abusing her skull she turned back to Amaya to let her know she was alright. However, once her formalities were finished she started blasting through the knots. Amaya should probably restart on her knots or else Sakura would get out before her. Now that would be a touch embarrassing if not a swift little kick to the ego.

18 + 2 = 20 Success

While the small girl would never admit it, the spirit of competition had kicked in when Sakura started getting her knots so quickly. Amaya had a considerable amount of time in the room before Sakura showed up, so she couldn’t let her finish first. Well, the girl didn’t have much control over that since they were on separate sides of the room unable to speak to one another, so she would just have to keep fumbling with the knots on her forearms and hope for the best. So, since Sakura was already well on her way, the small child pulled her attention from the pink haired girl and brought herself back into focusing on the task at hand…at forearm.

Speaking of, the next knot was still higher on her forearm and there was no hopes of reaching it with her hands, so Amaya began scissoring her arms back in forth in an attempt to move the rope further down towards her hands. This was a slow and tedious process and it hurt her arms slightly, probably because they were getting sore from being pulled behind her for so long, but it seemed to be working. Sure enough, the girl felt the rope on her upper arm loosening as it slowly slipped down her arms. With the scissoring action she was taking turns pulling the rope wider when the scissors were “open” and then giving them more than enough space to fall when the scissors were “closed”. Though it was slow going, it seemed to be an effective method and eventually Amaya found the knot low enough for her hands to get a hold of it. Instead of tugging and pulling and possibly tightening the knot, she found the loose end, followed it to the base of the knot, a started loosening the knot by pushing the base back through. This way she didn’t risk losing her spot or accidentally tightening it. It took some time and considerable finger strength, but the child felt the knot finally push through and the ends fall limp as the released her arms. Finally, the half way point. Amaya was proud of her progress, but she still had quite a ways to go and she felt her energy rushing from her again.

Yae started spectating just in time to catch the white-haired boy's head colliding with Fudou's. The way he reeled from the blow led her to imagine the harsh sound it would have made, had she been close enough to hear it. There was what seemed like a lengthy pause in the fight as the two squared off. Though, next to the excitement of throwing punches time seemed to drag on when nothing was happening No matter how long the piece had lasted, Akio broke it. Yae took a deep breath. She was coming to find that she really didn't like to watch fights, but she would need to be desensitized to ensure such things wouldn't shock her in the field.
