He shouldn't have kept his eyes on him. That was the last conscious thought he had before the world seemed to be foggy. There was nothing important, nothing other than those convincing words that pulled at his desire to live in peace. He was right. The reaper was right.
The world was gently spinning around the big grim reaper, sweeping him away with it. He couldn't move--but he didn't want to. His body was shutting down.
And all he could see or feel... was gray.

Opening his mouth to try and make some witty retort, Radoch found himself unable to speak. At best, he could bleat and snort. Cognitive reasoning was losing its place, evicted by some punk called Apathy. Apathy had brought his friend, Sloth, and they were making the Musimon's brain their crash pad. They raided the kitchen for body movements, messed up the feather mattress known as awareness, and painted the walls of the master control a bleak grey.
He stood there, still in the Phoenix's partial embrace, unmoving. Not breathing. Not blinking.
Why did all of this seem so right? Like it was meant to happen...
This was okay.
Everything was okay.

There was that moment of disbelief at the words of the old crusty looking reaper. His eyes shone bright blue with knowledge, but there was also something that seemed sinister about him.
Her mouth ran dry as she opened up to ask a question, but then it hit. Before the ghoul could even try and speak the wave of uncertainty came. It threatened to cloud her mind and steal her anchor to the ground. Her arm squeezed the boil she was still holding on to.
No, No they will NOT claim her this way!
By sheer stubborn force of will (and she was just that damn stubborn) she broke free the forming bonds around her mind. She shook her head, still feeling a bit fuzzy around the edges. She knew that while her mind was clear for a moment.. if she lingered her edge would vanish. She sat there for a moment, trying to remember something that was on the very tip of her mind. Something so familiar... yet, something that would probably never arrive.

Callie was startled that the reaper pulled his hood off, having assumed he would be uncooperative if not condescending. But those words . . . Their classmates! She didn't care if he said they went willingly - even if it was true, they never would have gone without being given a reason to. And for whatever purpose this "weaponization" she'd heard the others throw about was for, it definitely sounded sinister. So she opened her mouth to object -
- only to find it was heavy as stone. Her eyes were beginning to see nothing but mist, her mind nothing but foggy intentions. The golem struggled to stay awake.

The reaper's companion. Ren remembered, slowly and sluggishly, every thought swimming through a milky fog of confusion. The reaper had a companion, a ghost, perhaps, and she had snared them, hypnotized them. It was happening again. With a massive effort, Ren shook off the creeping tendrils of peaceful apathy.
He turned and ran.

Avery's thoughts were slowing now. Like the others, the fog was invading his mind, taking it over bit by bit. Calming him until he felt his body grow numb.
It was quieter now. Much quieter. He could just stay like this and--
s**t! No Jacking way!
The behemoth drove his own claws into his forearm, using the sharp pain to snap his mind out of the daze. The feeling still lingered, but he was aware enough to see that everyone around him was trapped. Maybe not physically, but the haze was breaking their control over themselves and preventing most from escaping.
(( Ignore roll. Avery gets a get out of jail free card 8D ))

Skylar struggled against the haze. Trying to focus on anything to keep his mind from slipping. But his resistance was futile. It didn't matter how much he concentrated. Every thought he formed just crumbled and disappeared, replaced entirely by something else.
But it was okay. Everyone was fine... Everything was fine....

No matter the effort, Ava could not think clearly with the haze about. All thoughts quickly faded as she remained dazed. What was she doing here again? She could have sworn there was a reason, but..she could not place it.
"What..?" What was happening?

No . . . No! I . . . have to fight . . .
Fight what? There was nothing to fight. Her body didn't respond to Callie's commands and she was rooted in place, dazed. There was something, something she was supposed to be doing, but for the life of her she couldn't remember what . . .

d**k's limbs were stiff, his body fighting against him as he tried to move - something was happening and it was just...it was fighting him!
This whole day had been his ******** body rebelling, but.... calm... a sort of calm washed over his mind and for a moment, the idea of just staying put - and not going forward - was impressed into his head.
Shehk felt panic settle into her gut while watching. She really wished she'd sat next to somebody and held hands for this journey because she needed to squeeze it right then.

Macthor felt dizzy and disoriented all of a sudden, the faces of his friends and classmates going out of focus as his vision blurred, his mind going blank; it was almost like he was being forced to sleep, something that he had... Enjoyed? What did he enjoy? He was... He was... Here, but where was here, and why was he here in the first place? There was something important that he needed to do, something that... Something that he had to do, but what was it?
What was that something important...?
He had to... He had to remember... He could never forget something important, right? He was...
The boil's eyes had closed, and he shuddered; however, his hand never left Tarot's. It held on, more muscle memory than anything else... After all, he couldn't focus his thoughts anymore. He couldn't... Tarot, Akithor, Macthor, Matt... Everyone... He-

[NPC POWERS, ACTIVATE!!!!11!!]
Malcolm had begun to fade, his sense of self slipping away as his already weakened body threatened to give way - but there was Selene in his arms, and he was doing something important before... Before something happened. She was something important to someone else... And for some reason, that made her something important to him too.
Something important... Yes, there was something that he had wanted to do here, in this cave. Call it an ideal, but they had a dream - that they would protect... Protect Halloween. Yes, that was it. That's what was important; as stubborn as he was, the way he acted like he didn't care about the class, about the people who regarded him a friend or acquaintance, about minipets, about Selene in his arms, about May who gave him a friendship band, about Vel who kept talking about his staff, about Pyre who helped him with Valde's training, about Quin and that date they still needed to go on, about Taru and Bee-
"D-don't... Jacking dare... S-sleep," He muttered at Selene, his voice soft, weakened, as he let his body fall to the ground with the ghoul on his lap; he held her close, holding her head over his shoulder; he wanted to say more. To say that they couldn't leave, not while they were all here... If they go, they go together. Defenders don't leave their peers behind.
That was important too. He decided to focus on that, closing his eyes as he chanted it over, and over again in his mind, his arms wrapped almost protectively around the ghoul he was supposed to bully.
Defenders don't leave their peers behind.

Tex's figure went slack against her side, and May panicked. "Tex ...? Oh c'mon cowboil this isn't funny." She looked at the cowboil who was draped over her to find that he wasn't moving at all. There was no slim smile on his face that indicated he was joking, nor a tired expression that she expected just the same. He was frozen. That was it. May didn't care about what the reaper had to say. She didn't care about the power he was offering, the deal he was proposing. May knew she wasn't a hero. She wasn't the one to go stand in the spotlight and defeat the great evil- it just wasn't in her nature to do so. What mattered to her was the bed back home and the future that she'd built up for herself these past 3 years at Amityville. There was no way she was going to throw it away for a crooked reaper that was provoking her. May just Grunting, she swung Tex's arm around her neck and put the brunt of his weight on her should. There was no way she could carry him all the way out- not without help maybe- but she would try her damndest to do so. Part way through the corridor, she sat down to rest, her chest heaving with the effort she'd exerted. It was too much for her. Tex was just too big, and she was just too weak. Carafe slithered around the tunnel, his twitching tail mirroring the anxiety she felt. It was all her fault, wasn't it? They couldn't make it back to Amityville now. She set Tex down beside her, and took a moment to breath. He still couldn't move, but she put her hand in his and said, "Screech ... promise to make ... that Apple pie I like ... okay?" After all, they had a date Moonday. --- Later they arrived in the library, and May just about threw Tex aside and danced for joy. She'd made it. They'd made it! They could leave the entire reaper problem behind and chalk it up to a bad dream. It was over. Wait. Why weren't the library candles lit? They were always on for the nocturnal students who came to read sometimes. Why weren't they lit? May set Tex down gently still inside the cave and took a few steps forward. Her entire body seized up as the electricity rammed through her body. Tex was gone. Carafe was gone. The library was black.

CRICKET - NPC POWERS ACTIVATE!!1!eleven
There was a brief moment where just relaxing into the feeling of submission kind of seemed nice. A reprieve from having to take care of everybody who got injured - who was hurt, who needed her ever healing hands.....
But Cricket was not the only one in there. The insects of her body seemed to ever move despite her lingering calm, turning into a loud and angry hum inside of her body. WE WILL NOT REST HERE OR ANYWHERE!! it seemed to demand of her. And they were right.
Her eyes flickered open as she seemed to become an angry beehive, rising up to her feet to fight off the feeling that was being instilled onto her.
"We are Amityville." Cricket said, "We do not stop for someone like you..." she hissed. However, despite any lingering control she was having over her body, she needed to get out of there - but she was not going to leave like this. Not with so many in submission. How many could she carry?
Could she carry any of them?
One thing was for sure: She was not going to abandon her classmat- no, her friends. They'd suffered much together, this was just one more thing they'd laugh about in twenty years once they were all safe and not curling up into a fetal ball of worry.
