The Count Of Monte Cristo

The count looked up at her then back down at his carving, it was not any clue to his problem, just lines that formed what looked like an island. "We need something to trigger the rebellion. We can not just tell people how weak Skyron is, they know that already. We need an event or someone who can rally the people against him. The silver knights are not available because they are mostly guarding Lucheston." The count said. "We need someone who can lead these people and we both know it can not be you or me. we are not leaders, we simply work in the shadows, we learn everything we need to. We do not order people around. Well, I don't do that anymore. I had reasons in the past." The count found himself going off topic so he put his thoughts back onto their dilemma. He believed he had a solution.
"What happened to Lucheston's other son? The rightful heir to Garnoff. Does he live?" The Count had spent a fair amount of time thinking about this. Oban would be everything they needed. He could rally the people.

Safira De'Garr

User ImageSafira sighed as he spoke of the problems facing them. "We've set up everything. It's up to the higher-ups now." She hated leaving things to other people, but in this they had to be patient. Random people from out of town weren't going to lead anyone, even if they were the leading type. She was surprised that the Count had such a read on her. True, she'd thought about leading once. Her family were more or less the leaders of their tiny village. Fortunately, the tragic train of thought was interrupted by his question. "From what I've heard, the prince is at Dragon's Breath as punishment. If Lucheston's correct, the princess made it out too, but neither him nor her lady-in-waiting have any idea where she is." She paused a long moment, an idea suddenly occurring to her. "The return of the rightful heir might be enough to get a revolution going." She said quietly. "Think we could convince him to come back?"

The Count looked continued thinking. "I am certain he is already planning to return. No one gives up power that is rightfully there. Plus, it is likely he has a score to settle with his brother. All we need to do is send out the word. Send ten men, each more loyal then the other, we will have them tell him of the rebellion rising. When he comes, we intercept him before Skyron. We can protect him until he is filled in." The count said as he looked around the pub. He seemed to be counting ten men from the crowd. "Then when the battle starts, we get to Lucheston, make sure he is unharmed, and we finish the battle. During our time down in the dungeon I was able to map it out. We can enter from where we left, most of the hunters will be distracted with the battle. We will be the knife that fits where the broadsword can't. The small group, that goes where the army can not."

Safira De'Garr

User ImageSafira listened intently to the plan. Discreet, undercover, all in all right up her alley. But she wasn't one to delegate positions to others. "Why send others? Why not go ourselves?" She looked around the pub, watching out for prying ears. There was a Hunter lounging against the wall, but he looked a mug of mead away from losing consciousness. "Ten men missing from the ranks will be noticed, a few newcomers not being seen around for a while will make much less notice. Besides, if the battle begins early we'll need able bodies here." And she just wanted this over with. She had to see it through to the end, she'd never forgive herself if she didn't. But she already had an interest in these people. Staying longer meant risking an actual relationship with someone. And she'd promised herself she'd never do that again. She had to find that curse and rid herself of her emotions before things got further entangled. Which meant she had to get this over with as soon as possible.

"If we leave Lucheston would be on his own. We will need to stay here but you do bring up a good point. Ten recruits missing will cause people to take notice. If anyone leaves they will take notice." The Count continued to think. He was thinking about something that could get to the Dragon's Breath in less then a day. Then it came to him. "Birds." He stood quickly and reached around in his pockets for a piece of paper he found one and pulled it out setting it on the table then he took the knife a pricked his finger. "Hopefully he takes the blood as a symbol that he needs to hurry." Dean said as he wrote a simple message.
Questions rise in Garnoff, come home and show you are the rightful heir. An army will be waiting.
-The Count of Monte Cristo

The Count was not afraid to put his name down. "On my island birds are trained to send messages back and forth. I need to find a crow. Then we will have the message sent." The Count said as he rolled up the paper with dried blood. "This way he gets the message for sure, and we have every able body we need if the fight begins to early." The count said as he looked at Safira. He didn't need to read minds to know something was wrong. But it was not his business and she would likely dislike it if he asked so he remained silent on the matter.

Safira De'Garr

User ImageSafira accompanied him in finding a crow and sending the message, feeling rather useless. And she hated that feeling. She was sure it showed on her face, but in true Safira style she didn't care. She had a knack for showing emotions outwardly, although most of her emotions were anger and contempt. After they were done and the message was sent, she headed back to the pub. At times like these, drinking was her only solace. She didn't count on the Count following her. She didn't count on anyone following her. Now that things were underway, all she had to do was hang around until the battle began, do her part in the fight, and be done with it. And she was glad to be getting back on her way.

But there was a tiny part, a part that she wouldn't admit to, that wished she had a reason to stay. Someone, anyone, to say they needed her. She doubted there would be anyone. The King was about to get his kingdom back, and everyone else she'd met had their own quests to finish. She took a big swig of mead, wishing she could just drink the problems away.

The Count had not planned on following Safira back to the pub but he did in the end. He could see how she was feeling. He knew that she could not simply get rid of her problems by hiding them and trying to drown them in mead. He wanted to help her, so he would try.
As soon as they were back in the pub and she put her drink down he pushed it across the table. "You can not fix anything by drinking it away. Talk to me about it, what is wrong?" The Count asked "The heir has the message, Lucheston will be free soon, and everything else will fall into place. But every time I see you something seems wrong. Tell me, I can help you." The Count pleaded

Safira De'Garr

User ImageSafira looked up, startled and annoyed as her drink was pushed away. "I should have guessed." She said sourly. She sat back, crossing her arms over her chest, and waited for another update on the state of things. "Yes, yes, everything is going perfectly for the city. They'll have their happy ending after all." Isn't that what it was all about? A big battle with a happy ending, the good guys winning?

She was taken from that train of thought by the Count offering his help. The conversation between them had always been focused on the matter at hand, the city and it's rulers. He's probably looking for his next big quest. A mean voice in the back of her mind said. He had joined to help Lucheston because it was what was right. And while she'd done the same, she hated the idea of being the one that needed help.
"You want another charity case? Fine. I need to find a spell. A curse, actually." The bit of mead she already had in her system had her speaking more harshly than usual. It was also what was making her spill the truth so freely. "A wanderer told me of it once. It removes emotion completely. Before I stumbled across you I was headed to Tenzenokit to learn more about it." She looked him square in the eye, daring him to say something. Would he try to talk her out of it? Or forego her entirely and dedicate himself to the saving of Garanoff?

The Count listened and took a seat, he was going to need it. "I was wrong..." He slid her drink back over to her. "that will help your problem. Dulls the senses, and emotions. Depending on the person." The Count. Then fell silent as he looked at her. He knew she had her reasons for what she wanted to do and would not want to tell him why, partially why he gave back her mead, it tended to stretch the line of what you do and do not answer.
"If this is what you want, after I have told the King about the need to strengthen peace with the trolls I will help you obtain this curse you want." He said as he stared at her. Normally he would not have, but in this moment he remembered the every first thing he did with his wealth, he got revenge. It was something no one could understand. No one knew why he wanted revenge so badly but him. No one could not understand why she wanted to be rid of emotion but her. It was her choice and her right to do as she pleased that is why he would help her.

Safira De'Garr

User ImageSafira was beyond confused. He sat down, but not for a long lecture about taking the pain and joy together. Instead, he slid her drink back and offered his help. And not in the "I shall give you whatever you need for your journey" way. "And why would you do that?" She asked, confused. The wander who had first given her the idea hadn't thought much of her new quest. But then, he had no emotions so she couldn't really tell what he thought....or would have thought, had he had emotions. "You do realize that if we succeed, I won't be grateful. I won't even care that you helped me." He had to be clear of that fact. A king could give honors or knighthoods. If he had not already found something in it for him, he wouldn't be getting anything.

"People like you and me do what we do because we need to. I have done things in the past that I needed to do. You, for some reason I can not understand, need this for yourself. It is your right to do what you need to do. I will not stand in your way, I will not try and stop you. I care so I will help." The Count said as she mentioned she would not be grateful. He laughed "Well I don't imagine you will try to strike me down in anger ether."
The Count looked down at the table and thought about what she said, clearly she thought he did the things he did because he would gain something from it. "Look, I am helping the King because in Tenzenokit, when I saw Lucheston being arrested, it reminded me just how I was betrayed and what followed. I would wish that on no body alive or dead, so I freed him. Things were more complicated then I thought now I am part of a revolution. I am rich, so I am not looking for gold. My honor is mine alone, so I am not looking for that either. I do not help because it is the right thing to do, I help because I care. I am a Count, not a saint." He said as he sat forward in his chair. In truth he was helping to escape his past and the memories that haunted him.

Safira De'Garr

User ImageSafira listened to his explanation intently, but one word kept jumping out. A word she had not heard mentioned in reference to her in years. One she swore she'd never hear again. And yet, she was loathe to point it out. But she had to know. "You care?" It, in a word, flabbergasted her. He didn't want anything out of it, no help for his own quest or gold. And while his past was indeed bad enough to run from, he showed no interest in the curse himself. "You've known me for a few days, how could you care?" She couldn't get past that point and it annoyed her.

"I was also only the Count of Monte Cristo for a few days before I was completely absorbed by the persona." The Count said. "It was not clear to me until the trolls attacked. When you were wounded I worried that you would not be okay. That was when I realized how much I cared. Every move you have made since you came aboard my boat I have cared about. Sometimes it was a cautious type of care and sometimes it was different."
He looked at the table. "So yes, I care, any problems? Feel free to try and stop me from caring. that is one battle you will not win. Well... no you would lose."

Safira De'Garr

User ImageThe Count's words were nearly nonsense. How could he come to care that quickly? It felt like it had taken years for her to care about her loved ones. Or perhaps she'd spent so long thinking about that time it felt like years. "A different type of care." She murmured, putting her hand over the wound on her stomach. She knew he'd healed it, but she'd never stopped to think of why. She couldn't even remember if she'd thanked him for it. "I hope you don't expect me to say it back." She didn't know if she cared and she didn't want to. Years of being mired in anger and drink had confused emotions in her head to the point where she could no longer match the feeling with its name. It was easier to dismiss the feelings that way and move on. "If you insist on it...fine. I plan to leave the moment Lucheston or his heir has firm control of this place and no a second later."

"I never asked you to say it back, I simply told you why I was going to help." The Count said. "Firm control, good, that gives me about three days after we win this city from Skyron. Firm control is not sitting on a chair having beaten the previous king. Firm control is being back to how things were running or close. that should be enough time to let me honor my promise to the trolls and leave to help you just in time."
He placed his hand on his sword. "You will need an extra hand. No one can sail to Tenzonkit alone, even I had Lucheston to help if things got bad. Not to mention that I can protect you. I am sure you can protect yourself but if the odds betray you, I can put them on your side again."
