Amy began to think of possible new Pokemon since her friend had suggested the idea, and she began to debate the type advantages, both battle-wise and contest-wise (Normal-types were often reliable for appeals, she remembered, but they had no type advantage over any other kind of Pokemon...) while they walked. She smiled a little, glad to find that the gatehouse separating the route and Saffron City was already in sight, and found herself anxious to get to Vermilion, and to possibly challenge a gym leader on her own.

"I'm glad that it isn't bothering you," she replied after a few moments, offering a small smile to her friend. When Karrigan released Zaira, Amy smiled at the Pokemon as well and, without much more worrying or thought, she released Marshall to join her. The Mudfish Pokemon looked up curiously at her, but was glad to find that they were only walking, and that he had a new friend to play with. The Wooper ambled over to Zaira and grinned hugely at her, and the bespectacled girl risked hoping that the two would keep together and prevent the other from running off to do something. "I'm ready if you are," she said to Karrigan, directing her sights to the looming city ahead.

Panic surged through her, and her legs were kicking in any effort to remain afloat. Something else sped past them, screwing her unsynchronized flailing up and making her splash and sputter all over again. Aquarius was there, his yellow arms pawing futilely at her own, and she thought she heard him begin to cry out in some sort of pain, clutching at his head. But then Jake was there, lifting her up, and she gasped noisily in reply, feeling chilled to the bone.

"Sorry, sorry, sorry," she heard herself chant, inbetween coughs, as Jake brought Bibarel out to help them steady themselves. Aquarius helped too, and the sight of her little yellow duck helped her get a grip on things. She supposed that some small part of her was glad she caught him instead of a Grass-type or, heaven forbid, a Geodude. Aquarius quacked and began to move along with the current on pure instinct, knowing that they would only mess everything up if they tried to return to where they had been. The raven-haired girl swam along with Jake and the Pokemon, mostly leaning on all of them for support, her heart still racing. More Pokemon brushed past them at higher speeds than before; from what she could see, they looked like otters.

"Sorry," she said again, voice quieter as they swam along to find the shore again. "I wasn't--I didn't know it would happen." Her face began to burn. Now they were significantly set back, she thought; she didn't know how long it would take to get back to where they had been. But she did know that they were coming up somewhere soon; Aquarius began to slow and seemed to see something that he turned them towards, hopefully that something being land. Sweet, sweet land.

For the next several moments, the only sounds that Jasper could hear were the erratic beating of his own heart, and the slight trembling of the Paras clinging tightly to his shoulder. He could feel the Mushroom Pokemon's claws digging into him through his jacket, but he remained still and silent, and he motioned for his Pokemon to do the same. His eyes remained glued to the circle of light on the ground by the ladder until it wavered a bit and then clicked off, leaving the cavern seemingly blacker than before. Jasper didn't know why he felt such a strong desire to keep his presence unknown, but the two men that were topside made him feel uneasy.

"Did you see anything?" the first voice asked again, sounding a bit nervous.

"Nah, nothing," Joe said dismissively. "Probably just a stupid Zubat or something. C'mon, lets get this over with." Jasper strained his ears to listen as the sound of shuffling could be heard from above, and a heavy thudding sound, like someone shifting a heavy bag followed by the telltale noise of someone starting to descend the ladder.

"Oi, Joe! Why do I gotta carry the bag?" Voice No. 2 complained.

"Cuz I outrank you, that's why," Joe snarled. "Now get moving."

"No ya don't," the second voice muttered, but said nothing else on the matter. "Hey, a little light, please?" A second later, the light came on again, and Jasper was able to see the legs and torso of the man that owned the second voice. There was nothing remarkable about him, other than that he appeared to be dressed all in black, from his boots to his shirt.

'We can't stay here,' Jasper thought, looking around. He bent down and grabbed Totodile, holding her gently against his chest as he retreated deeper into the well. He didn't know exactly, but those two were definitely up to no good, and the last thing he wanted was to be caught in the middle. His skill at stealth came in handy as he kept his steps silent, and he could hear that both men had now made it down the ladder. He could no longer hear their conversation clearly, but a few words did drift back to him, carried as an echo - money, profit, and Team Rocket.

Kasiya couldn't help but feel a swell of pride as she watched her Swampert in action. Leviathan had certainly come a long way in the time they'd spent together, growing from a tiny Mudkip to a mild-mannered Marshtomp and now a fully grown and powerful Swampert. She glanced around her, taking note of her friends' Pokemon, as well. Both Flannery and Kilik, each lacking Water-types, had found ways to help, and she couldn't help but marvel at Aggron's strength, and Arcanine's spirit. She knew first-hand how tough Winona's Tropius was, and as she gazed at Sasha's Lanturn, she recalled the adorable little Chinchou it used to be. Lastly she watched the Walrein and Golduck, smiling at the recent memory of Shiva's evolution, and of the day she witnessed Althena's hatching. She never would have guessed that the wacky little Psyduck would have grown up to be such a strong (and serious) Golduck.

"No need to worry, Winona! We've got this," Kasiya said, the determination in her voice contagious. She eyed the ever-solidifying bridge anxiously; it couldn't be finished fast enough. "Come on, Levi, give it everything you've got," she told the Water/Ground-type, her hand resting on the Swampert's shoulder. Levi nodded, easily sensing the tension in the air and she put her all into her Water Gun, making it stronger and cover more distance than before. The sound of the hissing steam drowned out Maxie's voice and Kasiya felt a chill go through her as her friend's hands became wreathed in flames, his intent quite clear at this point. No, she thought desperately, shaking her head in disbelief. Not when we're so close! What happened then was nothing short of amazing, at least to the blonde girl, and she watched, eyes wide, as Mike began to fight back, to regain control. He was literally ripping the phantom from his body. Kasiya took a step forward, wanting nothing more to help, but the steam and smoke made it difficult, and at this point, she wasn't sure there was anything else she could do, other than be there for her friend as moral support.

And then, just like that, it was over, or at the very least, it sure seemed that way. Mike had fully removed Milo's ghostly form from his body, and now the shade was on the ground, almost looking as though it were in pain. And rather than go through with his initial plan, he spun and knocked Maxie unconscious in one swift motion. The smoke that had poured out of him had faded, and even the temperature surrounding them seemed to drop a few degrees, and Kasiya exhaled sharply, only just becoming aware of the fact that she'd been holding her breath. And then, before even she knew what was happening, she was racing across the Pokemon-made bridge. She didn't give the hissing shade or the unconscious Magma boss a second look as she practically ran into Mike, wrapping her arms around him, though she didn't squeeze too hard as she knew he'd suffered multiple injuries over the past while, and she didn't want to hurt him more. "I... I knew it," she whispered into his bare chest. "I knew it all along."

Everything seemed to be happening in slow motion all around Flannery, as though someone had slowed down time for everyone except her. Everyone's Pokemon were working hard to make a safe path for them to cross over to where Mike, Milo and Maxie were, and for a terrifying moment, Flannery was sure they were too late. A fearful cry escaped her throat and she covered her eyes with her hands, unable to watch her childhood friend and love destroy the man that had destroyed him. Maxie's scream never came, however, and when she looked up again, Mike had seemed to gain control over his other self and before long, he'd torn Milo from him.

Flannery was a little reluctant to conclude that this was finally all over at first, at least until she saw Kasiya dashing across the now solid ground the Pokemon had created. Arcanine's Pokeball clattered to the ground, temporarily forgotten as she started to run as well, her heart pounding with an odd mixture of relief, anger, and extreme jealousy, though they were for none of the reasons most people would have thought. She was angry with herself; angry that she lacked the courage and unwavering loyalty that the younger girl had always had, and though the gym leader had known it all, she only then realized the full extent of Kasiya's feelings for Mike. She hated to admit it, but compared to Kasiya, she was more like a schoolgirl with a crush, and the jealousy over that very fact was nearly unbearable. The room seemed to blaze even hotter for the redhead as her blood surged through her veins. Even though she was certain she didn't deserve to be there now, she came up behind the embracing pair, her ruby eyes damp with tears.

Kasiya quickly became aware of another person behind her, and she could hear Flannery sniffling. It was amazing that for once, she wasn't the one crying, but her eyes widened with the realization of what she was doing, and she gasped, releasing Mike and quickly taking several steps back in order to make room for Flannery. "Oh, um, I'm sorry," she said quietly, bowing her head and backing up even further. It hadn't even occurred to her that Flannery should be the first, as after all, it was because of her, and what Mike had done for her, that they were even here to begin with. "Sorry," she said again, feeling immensely stupid and embarrassed, and she stared at the ground, silently wishing it would open up and swallow her.

Flannery couldn't even think of anything appropriate to say to the younger girl, as she was far too busy being eaten alive by guilt, but regardless, she flashed Kasiya a weak smile. She stepped forward and gently placed her arms around the boy, her chest heaving from the sobs she was trying so desperately to suppress. "Mike," she cried softly. "I'm sorry. I should have been there for you. I should have tried harder to understand. I-I'm so, so sorry..."

Moti was the last to descend from his room and he joined his two younger cohorts at their booth. “Morning guys.” The young man said as he sat down. By this point the food Claire had ordered was ready and a Ludicolo also made its way over to drop off the goods. Juliet had already anticipated Mag’s order and had sent over some extra pancakes and peanut butter to top them with. “Thanks!” Moti added as he waved across the room at their hostess. Without much more ado the trio ate their food.

“Everyone all set to leave?” Mag asked after downing the last pancake chunk on his plate.

“Packed and ready to go.” Rajasi replied.

”Yep, I’ve got all my stuff ready as well.” Claire added as she, too finished her breakfast.

”Okie dokie then.” Moti said giving his compatriots a thumbs up. “Let me go pay for the food and return our keys to our lovely hostess and we’ll be on our way.” The others nodded in affirmation at this plan and made their way out of the booth and to the small patio area outside the Ludicolo Lotus Café.

Meanwhile, Mag made his way over to the main counter where Juliet was ringing up another customer’s order. Once it was his turn he began by placing the three room keys back on the countertop. “Thanks for letting us stay and for the hook-up with my informant.”

“It was no trouble at all. Be careful on your mission and don’t be afraid to stop by if you’re ever in the area again.” The red-headed woman added as she fixed her glasses with one hand while simultaneously ringing up the bill with her other hand. “That’ll be $25 for the food.”

“Okie dok-i-waaait a minute. Did you say $25?” Mag exclaimed. “You sure aren’t the cheapest breakfast in town, are you?” The auburn haired man said sheepishly as he brought out his card to pay for the food.

“You did get three orders of bottomless pancakes.” The woman observed.

“Eh… that I did. Oh well, money comes and goes as it pleases and the food was quite delicious.” The young man shrugged. “Well, we’ll be seeing you around.” He said giving one last thumbs up as he turned and exited the shop. Although it was a bittersweet feeling to leave the place after such a short stay, Mag was glad to be back on the move and more importantly, getting one step closer to leaving behind his connections with Team Rocket, for the time being.

[Time-Skip]

Kilik was slightly taken aback by the fact she accepted the offer to travel with him, albeit for only a few moments. He smiled a little bit then glanced over as the Pokemon were utterly destroying the cafeteria. "Ach! Wahaa!" Kilik glanced over at Cable, who was laughing heartily, then at the sheer amount of food the smaller ones were eating. "C-Cable! You can't...They can't eat that much!" He ran over and looked as they decimated their food, leaving nothing but a few bread crumbs. The boy sighed and started picking up the plates on the floor. He looked up at the Pokemon and shook his head slightly. Nodding over to Cable, he laughed a little. "He's a terrible influence. Don't grow up to be like him."

After about an hour or so, Kilik had managed to clean up the mess Cable had caused the other Pokemon to make (and utterly refused any and all help Katie could offer him). He stretched a little bit and put a hand into his pocket. "Ready to ship out?"

Cable apparently was. He scooped up both Elekid and Buneary, placing each of them on one of his shoulders and started heading out of the cafeteria, motioning for the smaller Pokemon to follow him.

"Sorry about that," he explained as they started walking out of the Center, "Cable likes to invigorate other Pokemon when it comes to stuff he likes to do. And speaking of other Pokemon..." Kilik ran his finger across his belt, feeling the five other Pokeballs that dotted it. "Let's start small. Some of these guys could probably demolish half the city if they felt like it..." He took out a PokeBall and tossed it forward.

Out popped Flareon, looking a little more tired then usual. "Flaaare...?" he yawned, looking around. He was in a big city now; wasn't he just curled up at home? The fox glanced over his shoulder and saw Kilik, and immediately his face lit up with excitement. He jumped up into his arms and began licking his cheek. "Flaaare!!"

"This is Flareon," he laughed, keeping one eye shut as he walked and continued to be licked, using his open eye to look at Katie. "No nicknames or anything special, just Flareon. He's been with me since day one of my adventure!" Kilik put his hand on the tuft of fur on Flareon's forehead and rubbed a little. "You're probably still pretty tired, huh? Attacking Team Magma took a lot of out you." He rubbed noses with the Eeveelution, who climbed around to his shoulders and rested there, now looking more like a fur scarf. He noticed Cable turning onto Route 203 ahead of them. "Looks like we have a little catching up to do," Kilik laughed.

Aboard his newly evolved Honchkrow, Mazarin was flying high and above the lovely shores of Cianwood. HQ was located in a hidden location in Johto; top secret. But a flight from HQ to Sootopolis would take only a few hours tops and with Honchkrow, everything would be a-okay! At least, so it seemed. The boy looked down and noticed a boat tailing him. "Hey, what!" he had his ride swoop down to get a better look. It was a group of rogue trainers, nothing but petty thieves with no affiliation to anyone.

"Give us dat Honchkraw, buddy!" one of them said, tossing a ball up and down. They all sent out Pokemon, one each, and revealed a Magneton, an Arcanine, and a Nidoking. The boat somewhat shifted underneath the weight of the purple beast.

"Looks pretty strong!" snickered the Magneton's trainer, "But lets see how it stands up to a Thunder!" The magnets swirled around and began blasting large bolts of lightning at Mazarin and his mobster bird. Using some very impressive evasive skills, Honchkrow avoided the blasts rather easily.

"Okay, boys! You wanna play?" Mazarin jumped off of his ride and landed on the boat, looking a little more badass than he was accustomed to. "Then let's play!" He tossed a Pokeball into the water and let his Sharpedo begin to assault the hull of the ship, and another in front of him to allow his Shiftry to get a little action in.

"Game on, kiddies!" Mazarin grinned his stupid grin. Action time!

Holy CRAP this water is COLD, Jake thought, jumping slightly as he too felt something brush up against him. He didn't see what it was though, as he was more concerned with trying to get them back to the shore. The water wasn't too deep, at least to a long-legged and lanky teenager like him, and every now and then his bare feet touched the bottom which seemed colder than the water and quite squishy and mucky to boot, but that was the last thing that was bothering him. He kept a good hold on Jade, being sure to keep her head above the water as it had become apparent that she didn't know how to swim. "Don't apologize, and don't worry, I've got you and I won't let you go," he told her, his voice reassuring. "Just kick your feet, they'll help you stay afloat." Bibarel noticed the Buizel zipping by and she called out to them, the normal gruffness of her voice replaced by concern. A few of the otter Pokemon heard the beaver's cries and came to her aid, their twin tails spinning like propellers as they helped the Psyduck, Bibarel and two humans navigate their way toward the shoreline.

Jake coughed as a a spray of water got him in the face, but he was otherwise all right. Finally he was able to plant both feet on the soft, gooey bottom of the river and he began to make his way up the bank, scooping Jade up with his other arm to keep her safely out of the water. "See?" he said, nearly out of breath but still managing a big smile. "We're all right, we're good. We just went for a little detour; took the scenic route, is all." During their little trip downstream, the sun had set and now Jake had absolutely no idea where they were, adding to the already tense situation. He carried the raven-haired girl up the bank, not stopping until they were well clear of the mud and water, and then he finally set her down, falling flat on his back beside her, looking up at the sky. "That was quite a ride," he laughed, chest heaving. He tilted his head to look over at Jade. "Are you all right?" he asked, noticing out of the corner of his eye that Bibarel was thanking the group of Buizel that had helped out.

The Shinx gave a happy cry when she saw the Wooper appear and she darted over to meet him. Karrigan smiled weakly, but she glanced back at her bandaged hand, and sighed. She wasn't sure she had the ability or the patience for the energetic little Electric-type, though she took a deep breath and kept herself calm, thinking of her other Pokemon. A slight smiled passed her lips when she realized that Amber would be pretty pissed off with her for their stunning loss, even if the fox had no one else to blame but herself. "Thank you," she said, nodding to her friend. "If it's not too much trouble, could I possibly get you to help me change the bandage later? It's quite difficult on my own."

The two young and happily playing Pokemon kept relatively close to their trainers, or at least as much as their game of tag would allow, and the small group passed through the gatehouse without incident. Karrigan's mind kept drifting back to her loss against Erika, though the more she thought about it, the less it bothered her. It had been really stupid to go in there without properly training with her Pokemon, specifically the two she'd only just met and captured; one of which she had never even battled with. It was no wonder that Erika had soundly defeated her. She looked around her as the familiar route came into view, glad to be out of Celadon for now, even if it meant they'd be returning temporarily to Saffron, which was even larger. She hoped the trek through the large and bustling city would be quick, as she hadn't given herself a proper chance to explore Vermilion City.

It had been half an hour since the trio of rockets had made their way from the Ludicolo Lotus Café. Although there were some trainers moving along the route none of them seemed to be bothered with the three trainers making their way to the Lashley Memory Research Institute. Truth be told, the institute itself was secluded quite a ways north of the main part of the route and the group finally made it to the fork in the road. The intersection had a small rest house complete with bathrooms, a framed map of Kanto, vending machines that sold all variety of food and drink, and of course a lobby waiting area.

“Things have been pretty quiet today.” Rajasi noted as he and his comrades stopped to get drinks and snacks from the vending machines.

”Yeah, but that’s made our progress through the route go by pretty fast.” Claire added. “Truth be told, I’m quite relieved to be so close. We can finally figure out what the problem with my memory is.” Although the blonde haired girl had been feeling reasonably well, she still didn’t remember everything that had happened to her since losing her memory. She could remember lots of small details about her life, but none of it had anything to do with how she joined Team Rocket. She had a nagging feeling that there was something off about this whole thing, but there must be a good reason for her situation and until she found it out she would have to stick with Moti and Rajasi. Although not her choicest company, the two of them seemed to be good enough people.

“There’s no guarantee, but the trip won’t have been in vain, that’s for sure.” Rajasi replied. “Hey, where did Moti go?” The brown haired man asked, suddenly realizing that their goofball leader was no longer with them. Claire looked around and shrugged.

”I’ll check the lobby, do you want to go check the men’s room and meet up back here in three minutes?” Claire responded taking care to scan their surroundings. “He probably just wandered inside, but we’ll know if something is amiss if either of us misses the meeting time.” The brown haired boy nodded and the two went their separate ways to check.

Rajasi strolled around the side of the building, following the signs to the men’s restroom. He paused at the door and decided to release his Cacnea, just to be safe. The Cactus Pokemon stretched for a moment and then jumped up to her favorite spot on Rajasi’s shoulder. Feeling more confident, the brown haired boy walked inside the wash room. A cursory glance showed that the place was empty, but the young man took the time to stoop down and look across the floor under the stalls to see if there were any feet. Everything was empty. “Well, might as well go report back to Claire.” The boy said to his grass type with a smile.

Meanwhile, Claire had also made her way over to the door to the lobby and paused, there was a faint noise emanating from the other side that sounded like hushed voices although she couldn’t make out the words. The blonde girl pushed open the door more harshly than she intended and the door swung around on its hinges, crashing loudly against the bounce plate on the wall. Oddly enough, the noise didn’t seem to disturb the three people inside the lounge. The far couch held the first two people who appeared to be Pokemon trainers about the same age as Claire. Although the close couch faced away from her, the blonde girl instantly recognized Moti’s orange mop of hair. “There you are.” Claire said with a sigh. “Er, wait. Why didn’t anyone react to me opening the door?” The young woman walked over to Moti and quickly realized that both he and the two trainers opposite him were sound asleep! “That’s odd. I definitely heard voices before I came in…?” but as she spoke a strange tune began to fill the air and her eye lids began to feel awfully heavy…

“Cre-rei ze, croa-riou tue, ze!” the gentle feminie voice sang on.

Alex peered up at Kressen as he took the sketch book, and while she waited for him to finish up, she glanced over at the trio of pokemon playing tag. It was good to see her Roll finally able to run around and have a bit of fun, even if it was inside of a pokemon center. She grabbed the sketchbook when Kressen offered it, and as she flipped through the pages, Alexis found herself more and more impressed. There were a bunch of really cool drawings of Pokemon she hadn’t seen in person yet, though admittedly, her favorite was the drawing of her little dinosaur princess.

After she’d finished, she handed the book back to Hayley, a wide smile on her face. “He’s right! I really liked the Pidgeotto one!” Judging by the scenes Hayley managed to capture, and the fact that she was pretty talented, well, Alex doubted she’d have much trouble reaching her goal.

The blond looked back up at Kressen, instead of his feet. Maybe teleporting from a swarm of angry bees with someone made them a sibling-in-arms? “… No thanks. We were supposed to be in Pewter a while-” Her sentence was interrupted by a growl, a reminder from her stomach that most human beings tended to eat three meals a day, and zero meals in 36 hours didn’t really fit into that ratio. She frowned a bit at the inevitability of lost time, but it wasn’t like that museum she’d heard about was going to up and walk away. “… Actually, is there a restaurant or something nearby?”

"That goes for you too, Plua," Riza told her Fearow, carefully holding on but also trying not to cause any discomfort to the bird. "Onward to Vermilion!" Plua gave a sharp nod and gave a shrill caw, her gaze shifting to the golden bird flying nearby. He was nice to look at, she'd give him that, but his holier-than-thou attitude left much to be desired, and she was determined not to lose to him, not after she'd helped to win that gym battle. Plua would never admit it to anyone but her respect for her trainer was starting to grow, and right now she didn't want to let either of them down by being out-flown by that golden moron.

Riza let out a gleeful shriek as the wind whistled through her long, black hair. It wasn't her first time flying with a Pokemon, as she'd ridden with her brother, Jaden, and his Pidgeot several times, and before with Keegan and his overly grumpy Skarmory. As much fun as those times had been, it was far more exhilarating to be flying on her own, with her own Pokemon that she'd captured and trained. She felt a surge of respect for her Fearow as well and she made a note to herself to pick up something nice for her, like a TM, the next time she had a chance. Riza looked down toward the ground, amazed at how fast they'd left Cerulean City behind them. The route below looked so green and bright, but it wasn't long after that the greens gave way to the grim grays of Saffron City. 'I'm never walking anywhere ever again,' Riza thought, smiling hugely.
* * * * *
Needless to say, the sheer amount of food that had been consumed by her Pokemon left more than half of them in food comas, save for only Seraphim, Nell and Kord. Katie stared at her Monferno, Staravia and Buizel as well as their bulging stomachs, laughing and shaking her head. "They'll have to train extra hard to work off all that food," she said, shrugging. She'd moved forward to try and help clean up the mess but Kilik stopped her every time, and though she pretended to pout and be angry that he wouldn't let her help, she was silently amused, and impressed by his gentlemanly nature. She spent the majority of her wait time studying the town map application on her Poketch, plotting out the best way to go about her mission and using the Fly HM she'd gotten from Mai and teaching it to Noa. She knew she couldn't include Kilik in it (though the irony of the situation was pretty funny, even though neither trainer knew it). 'It would be best if I went with Kilik to Oreburgh, and then I could go up the route and pass through Mount Coronet. Hearthome City is more or less on the other side, and from then on its route 209 to Solaceon Town.' She still didn't have a plan on how she'd get the egg, but she still had plenty of time to work it out.

She looked up when Kilik had finally finished the cleanup, and smiled. "Sure thing," she said, motioning for her Pokemon to go along with them, but Cable had scooped up a very happy Kord and Nell and placed them on his shoulders. Katie couldn't help but wonder if these sort of things would aid in the Buneary's happiness, as she knew that Nell would only evolve into a Lopunny if they had a very good bond between them. Miles, meanwhile, had stopped to talk to Noa, and before long, the Staravia had been talked into picking up the Buizel in her talons and she flew him along, being careful to not stray too far. Only Genki and Seraphim stayed near Katie, all three attentive as Kilik went ahead and introduced his first Pokemon.

Katie's ruby eyes went wide at the sight of the Flareon. She'd read all about Eevee and their incredible ability to evolve into one of many different Pokemon, but she'd never seen one of the forms up close before. "Oh, he's absolutely beautiful," she gasped, her gaze glued to the fox's lovely and soft-looking fur. Flareon certainly looked tired and Katie cast the dark haired boy a curious look when he said something about Team Magma, but she didn't press it and instead ventured closer to the fire-type. "It's nice to meet you, Flareon," she said, holding out her hand for the fox to sniff, even though he rested high up on Kilik's shoulders. Katie imagined nothing felt warmer than a fluffy Flareon draped around your neck like a scarf. She glanced ahead as well, and laughed. "Yeah, we don't want them getting into trouble without us."
* * * * *
Gardenia clapped her hands excitedly, more than a little impressed with her Cherrim's marvelous Solar Beam. She wasn't surprised to see the Monferno get back to its feet, looking shaky, and her eyes narrowed slightly when she saw a fiery glow encompass it. 'There goes Blaze,' she thought, nodding. It meant that Monferno would be relatively easy to take down now, as its stamina was low, but she'd better watch out for incoming fire-type attacks, as they'd be stronger than usual. And just as expected, Robin called for an Ember, and as predicted the burst of flames was larger than before. Gardenia had raised an eyebrow at Robin's command, she couldn't see Cherrim?

"Cherrim, evade and use Morning Sun!" the gym leader called, glancing up at the bright sky. Cherrim, looking weak and shaky itself, fully extended its beautiful pink petals and began to take in the rays of the sun, this time for nourishment rather than power. With the sun glowing brightly, Cherrim could heal most if if not all the damage that had been inflicted on it. Or not, because Cherrim underestimated the distance and spread of Ace's flames, and it was not able to dance out of the way in time, and the crispy critter teetered and spun before falling to the ground, down for the count. "Drat," Gardenia sighed, recalling the fainted flower, but she smiled. "Alright, Robin," she called, still smiling. "You've forced me to bring out an ace of my very own! Let's go, Roserade!"

The Bouquet Pokemon appeared, doing a graceful curtsy as she eyed her flaming opponent. "It's time to even the odds," the gym leader called, "use Extrasensory!" Roserade held out both of its arms as its eyes began to glow brightly, focusing its psychic powers towards the Monferno. It then pushed both rose 'hands' forward, sending off a focused blast of psychic energy. It had been hard work perfecting this move!

Victory was the only thing on Fearows mind. His wings flapped surely leaving powerful gusts of air blowing behind them as they soared. Crenu had never actually flown before like this, only a few practice laps with Fearow which the pokemon hated but never at this altitude nor speed. He got use to the sting of the air pretty quickly though, and kept himself low and aligned with the pokemons body to reduce resistance. This was an exhilarating sensation for sure, the speed, the scenery zooming by them underneath, the thrill of the race. It was inexplicably...fun. Fearow and Crenu wanted to win, and so did Riza nad Plua. But as he looked over at his opponent, they were both surprised to see that they were keeping up. Not only that...but Plua and Riza had taken the lead! Plua had grown a lot stronger than Crenu had realized, Riza's training was doing well indeed. But she couldn't have been that much stronger than his Fearow...then it hit him. Riza was much lighter than Crenu was. Both of their weights weren't a big burden to the powerful birds, but Riza's smaller frame was sure to make a difference in a game if speed. Fearow wasn't going to give up though, streamlining his body cutting the air with his beak. Crenu got as low as streamline as possible while holding tight as they sliced through the air doing their best to beat the ladies.

Ken looked at Rowan for a moment, taking in everything the man had said, making sure he had heard right. "Wait so like...amnesia?" This was interesting, very interesting indeed. Like a soup opera, only in real life. He'd never known anyone to get amnesia before but obviously it was happening here. Ken bowed his head, and as much as he wanted to See Jaeshan now the professor was right. "We wouldn't want to cause him anymore harm. But he's safe and that's what matters. I'll have to be careful who I tell...I'm sure his parents would turn this region upside down to get him back despite knowing of his frail mental state...but to keep this kind of information to myself would be selfish and cruel to those who really love and care about him. Uhg, this is one hell of a burden. Hmm, I'll figure that out on my own, but tell me Professor, you know about his mental state better than myself or anyone since you spent time with him. Do you think his mind could take seeing a familiar face? What if...what if I just ran into him and pretended I didn't know him? I know it'll be hard...but I'm an accomplished man I can handle it. I wouldn't say anything to him about the past and be a stranger, a new friend. Maybe seeing an old face and hearing an old voice will knock something loose...but more than anything it's to watch over him. Make sure he does indeed remain safe until his memory returns...as a friend I only want his safety. If you think his mind can handle that then can you at least tell me the direction he went in or where he might be now? If not...if you think it'll just cause him more damage then I'll abandon that hope and just have to be satisfied with knowing he survived. What do you think Rowan?" Ken really wanted to see his Jae, but he had to take the wise old man's words into consideration. What was best for him or his family and friends may not be what was best for Jaeshan. Ken sat down with a somber expression, how was he going to handle this information? He couldn't tell some people, but at the same time how could he not let them know and ease their broken hearts? A man's burden was a heavy one indeed.

Kasiya withdrew her PokeDex and pointed it at her newly-acquired Muk, as she hadn't yet checked out his abilities. Muk. Classified as the Sludge Pokemon, its body is thickly covered with a filthy, vile sludge. It can often be undetectable as it blends in with the ground. Touching this Pokemon accidentally can cause a terrible poisoning that results in high fever, with the only known cure being bed rest. One drop of this Pokemon's bodily fluids can turn a pool of clean, fresh water stagnant and rancid, and it kill plants instantly. Its favourite food consists of rotted garbage, and these creatures tend to gather where pollution levels are high, the girl read, and she blinked, looking up at the Pokemon. "Wow, that's kinda gross," she laughed, scrolling to the next page that listed Bubbles' moves. "I think you and Kilik's Weezing would get along quite well," she added. The Muk slowly shifted to look back at her, grinning, but he said nothing.

Surge shifted uneasily on his feet as the horrible reek wafting across the battlefield was enough to turn even a strong stomach like his, but his Electabuzz stood strong, static rippling across its powerfully muscled arms. "C'mon, kiddo, what are you waiting for?" Surge called, a bit impatiently and slightly green around the gills. "We're waiting on you, here!"

"Oops, yeah, sorry!" Kasiya called back, snapping the device shut and stuffing it in her hip bag. "I've never battled with Bubbles before, so I had to make sure I knew what moves he could use!" She scraped the heel of her boot across the pavement, and eyed the Electabuzz. She had noted several Ground-type moves among the Muk's arsenal, and she smiled. "Okay, Bubbles, let's start things off with your Mud Bomb," she called. Muk wasn't swimming in massive special attack, but her Swampert could also use this move, and it often messed with the target's accuracy. Bubbles' mouth gaped open and he gave a deep, guttural bellow before he punched forward with his fist, sending a hard, round sphere of compacted mud sailing toward Surge's Electabuzz.

Oi, that girl's got a strange taste in Pokemon, the gym leader thought, managing to hold strong despite the stench. The people that had gathered around to watch the battle had backed off considerably, but most had stuck around as they recognized their hometown gym leader. Finally, Kasiya called for a Mud Bomb, and Surge made a fist, grinning. "All right, Electabuzz! We ain't gonna take that lyin' down! Block it with yer Protect!"

"Eleebuuuu!" cried the Electric Pokemon, pounding his fists together before holding his arms up in front of him defensively, and a shining barrier of green light surrounded him. There was plenty of time before the Mud Bomb crashed up against the Protect, flecks of mud shooting off in every direction, but Electabuzz was otherwise unharmed, wearing a toothy grin and obviously hungry for more.

At first, Riza hadn't noticed that she and Plua had not only caught up to Crenu and Fearow, but they'd zoomed ahead, as well. Plua had most certainly realized it, tilting her head back and leering at the pair of males. Riza looked back as well, laughing and waving. It may have been a competition, but she was having fun, and she was almost certain that Shiro was having fun as well with the only exception being the golden coloured Fearow. She saw Shiro lower himself to reduce wind resistance and she did the same, finding that Plua picked up almost an immediate speed boost. The Fearow crowed loudly as she flew along, able to see the city of Vermilion growing on the horizon. Riza could also see the ocean in the distance, and she pointed forward. "Okay Plua, let's bring it on home! We're going right to the gym!" she told the Beak Pokemon, and Plua nodded. She hated to admit it but this was quite fun too, just being able to cut loose and put her all into a flight. She looked back at her trainer out of the corner of her eye, beak curling into a slight grin. She was determined to win, though she wasn't sure if it was more for her, or to not let the dark haired girl down. The sea side city was pretty much under them now, and both Riza and Plua's keen eyes scanned the buildings for the gym. It was harder to spot than she liked but soon they'd locked on to their target, unaware of the commotion going on in the square a few blocks over. "We're gonna make it!" Riza cheered as they zoomed down toward the gym.

Keegan's eyes remained fixed on his own two Water-types as they worked together to solidify a safe path for the group to traverse. Admittedly, he'd jumped a little when Kilik's Aggron started hurling boulders, or rather, large chunks of the base's destroyed walls, on top of the lava. He really had no idea what was going to happen next, and that made the redhead feel uneasy, even though he had never been one to plan things out and then stick to said plans. He was impressed with the power of Shiva's Water Gun, but he could easily tell that she did not like the heat, and was very uncomfortable. "Just a bit more, girl, then you can rest," he told her, glancing over his shoulder at the Swampert, quite grateful that Kasiya had helped him to evolve the Walrein. A quick glance at Althena showed that she was all right; if the heat was bothering her, the Golduck definitely wasn't letting it show. He looked across the river of molten rock that separated them from Mike and Maxie, though by now it was quite clear that Milo was in control and had no plans to give it up any time soon. Dammit, we're gonna be too late. Milo's gonna kill Maxie, and probably all of us, too, just to ******** with Mike.

Though Maxie was about to get his face punched off by a fiery fist, Keegan couldn't look away, even though he really didn't want to watch this. His stomach heaved and he thought he might be sick, but he was able to keep it at bay, and instead found himself watching as Milo seemed to freeze in place. He couldn't quite hear what was being said, but it was clear by the surprise on the boy's face that something was happening, and Milo didn't like it. He couldn't understand how they were actually seeing this black, shade-like phantom being torn from Mike's body, like something out of one of those demon-possession horror movies. The redhead blinked and rubbed his eyes, mindful of the blood on his face, and looked up again, paling slightly. Incredibly, Mike had reclaimed control of his body and removed the problem, quite literally. And then, Maxie was out could on the floor, thanks to a swift punch from Mike, and for a brief moment, Keegan recognized the boy and best friend he grew up with. So Mike was still there, and had been there, all along.

Again, Keegan tried to look away but failed, as of course, Kasiya was the first one to reach Mike, throwing her arms around him and hugging him. It was nearly impossible to keep the intense jealousy he felt at bay. Flannery was right behind her, however, and he scoffed lightly. Both girls had spoken, but again could not hear them. Keegan felt a strange pain shoot through his chest as he watched the small blonde girl look up at Flannery, relinquish her hold and step away from Mike all without a second of hesitation. After a painful moment of contemplation, he too realized the full extent of Kasiya's feelings for Mike. Not only that, however, he was aware that even now, she was doing what she'd always done, which was backing off, and putting everyone else's feelings before hers. No matter how much she cared for and loved Mike, she'd always backed off, for Flannery, for Mitsu. His heart ached for her now that he finally got it, and he closed his eyes and recalled all three of his Pokemon simultaneously. He understood now. He understood everything. He was the selfish one, not Kasiya, not in the slightest. She was, in fact, the exact opposite. His chest continued to burn painfully, both with sympathy and guilt. He'd been terribly wrong about her intentions and feelings. He didn't deserve for her to love him the way she loved Mike. And, of course, that comprehension only made him love and want her more, if it was at all possible.

The redhead reached into his damp pockets to pull out a cigarette, but when his fingers closed around a soggy square of cardboard, he sighed and hauled it out. Being swept up by that surf had soaked him from head to toe, including the contents of his pockets and he tossed the soggy pack of cigarettes to the ground. They could probably be dried out and saved, but he just didn't care enough at that time. With no other choice than to suffer temporary nicotine withdrawal, he sucked it up and he too made his way across the makeshift path of solidified lava. He stared down at the unconscious Magma boss with indignation before frowning and planting a swift kick in the man's side, at the risk of becoming a hypocrite, that was all he did before moving on. He stopped at Kasiya's side, and placed a hand on her shoulder, but for once, he could think of nothing to say.

Amy couldn't help but notice the slight exasperation in her friend's eyes every time her unruly little Shinx ran about. She smiled, almost sympathetically, but said nothing about the matter; she knew that something would eventually happen and Karrigan and Zaira would get along much better. Marshall didn't have the best discipline, either, but hopefully this gym battle, practically tailored for him, would help him burn off some of that energy. She watched the two blue Pokemon chase each other around, weaving through her legs and almost tripping her. After a slight, reproachful look from his trainer, Marshall learned not to do that anymore.

"Oh, of course! It'd be no problem," the bespectacled girl said agreeably, glad that she could help even in some small way. She was at a lack of things to say for the moment, and quickly settled into a silence that she found quite comfortable, accompanied by the sounds of the occasional Pidgey taking flight and the bustle of either city, one growing louder as the other grew more faint. She kept thinking about her battle ahead, trying to steel herself for whatever may come. Lee definitely would be another good option, if she needed more than one Pokemon, and Flora was clever as well. But another Pokemon was sounding better and better. She began to worry about whether she would catch one again between here and Vermilion, but some part of her argued that she simply would. Acting on impulse wouldn't be such a terrible idea every once and a while, right?

As they continued walking, the gatehouse leading to Saffron City grew clearer and clearer. As they came upon the city, Amy recalled Marshall, worried that the Mud Fish Pokemon might get lost in the crowd. She turned to Karrigan, already bracing herself for the crowded streets and deafening roar. "Are you ready?"

Jade followed her friend's directions, kicking her feet to keep her afloat, otherwise silent for the rest of the unexpected swim. But when the blonde actually scooped her up, words of protest began to form in her mouth, but she said nothing, knowing that it'd be immature of her to yell at him for helping her. The raven-haired girl said nothing until he set her down, her fingers entangling themselves in the blades of grass, as if to anchor her to the actual land. She sighed.

"Sorry," Jade grumbled, trying not to be mad at anyone here, but she was terribly angry with herself for making such a stupid mistake. She had, by some means, ended up the helpless again, and she had no one but herself to blame for it. "I'm fine," she said, tone softer, almost tired. She hadn't noticed the sun had gone down, but now that she was cold and wet and they had no clue where they were, she realized the gravity of the situation they were in. Aquarius was padding back over to them, and she leaned up, patting his little yellow head. "Thanks. Both of you. And Bibarel." She flashed a small smile towards the Beaver Pokemon.

"I don't think that moving around at night would be a good idea," Jade finally said, after a few more moments of remaining silent and letting all of the adrenaline leave her body. "Especially since we have no clue where on earth we are." She glanced around and, for the most part, saw nothing but darkness. "Wanna set up camp here?"

Crenu watched as Riza raced forward towards Vermilion and followed close behind. Fearow wasn't giving up at all, and flew as fast as he could. He flapped like mad and tried his best to come out on top, passing Plua for a moment only to have her overtake him again as Riza streamlined herself as well. This was a close race and Crenu couldn't hide the fact that he was enjoying himself right now. But despire the enjoyment this was a competition, and as the city grew clsoer and closer the race was comign to it's end. It came down to the final dive as both Fearow headed for the gym down below, the street of Vermilion getting closer and closer almost giving the sensation that they were about to crash until powerful wings sent gusts at the ground as they turned to land safely. The race was over and they had gotten to the gym, but no matter how he looked at it there was no denying it. Riza had landed first, she and Plua had beaten them. Crenu hopped off of Fearow and the Beak Pokemon couldn't understand it! How could he have lost!? He looked at Plua, and bowed his beak. He had to give her some credit...she was fast. That piece of humble pie was pretty hard to swallow but the Golden Fearow held it in and said nothing. Crenu recalled the pokemon so he didn't have to face defeat any longer, clippign it onto his belt. "That was close, you girls won this time." Even though he lost, Crenu was still smiling slightly, though that smile vanished when he pressed his hand on the gym door and it didn't open. The lights were off too, it looked...closed. "....That's odd."
