That's the thing- I don't even really believe in hell. I mean, I acknowledge it probably exists in some form, but I honestly to know what it entails, nor do I care to know. I also have a fundamental problem with a devout person of another faith, who has been humble, prayerful, faithful, and serves others going to hell because they worship a "different" God than me.
I get what you mean. And this is where the "parable of the sheep" is applicable. God knows who is his and who isn't his. That is one of the issues I have with the Methodist Church.

I dunno. So many world religions have similar tenants and beliefs about God, I've kind of come to the conclusion that most faiths are worshiping the same God I am, just under and different name with different ideas. I think a Hindu is just as in turn with God as I am, and that God is big enough to encompass almost all other faiths.
Don't disagree with this.
Personally I do recognize though that there are religions that do have fundamental differences from each other concern God. I don't believe that my God is the same god that someone claiming that their god requires human sacrifices or child rape.

I want to teach the kids there are people who love and care about them, and that they can make their lives better than they are right now. I think belief in God is good for them, because it gives them a good direction and leads to a fulfilling life, but that's never my overt goal. I want to show them how much I love them, and then maybe they'll see the love of God through me that way.
And that is emulating the Christ spirit. You know what's important. What I was suggesting a way how you could work within their rules if you wanted to do so.

What's the modern definition of "Hell"? The absence of YHVH, right? Isn't every other possible afterlife technically "Hell" in that regard? And isn't being away from YHVH just a bad thing if you worship YHVH while we are at it? If the kids you have are smart, they'll pick up on that.

That's funny you mention that. I'm Methodist, and I've never had any issue with their theology on the after life. In fact, I don't think I've really heard about the after life a whole lot from any Methodist church I've ever been in.

Oh, absolutely. That's why I say "most" religions. Atheists, for instance I obviously don't see as worshiping the same God as I xD There are certainly exceptions, but as far as most major world religions go, I see a lot of overlap. Also, there's always people who misuse religion, so sometimes I think the fault lies with the individual, not the faith itself.

In the past, it hasn't been real difficult to work within their guidelines because the only half hour of actual Bible study we do has a really good layout and program. As I stated, I'm more concerned about the dynamics with my team. However, the community we work in is usually pretty diverse and understanding, so I'm sure it'll be fine.

Might have been a Louisiana thing then. There was a big push for evangelizing within the Methodist Church during the end of my High School years. Yeah they never really talked about "Hell" but that you had to convince others to accept Jesus and that he was the only way to Heaven.

Concerning atheists, it depends with on the person since atheists don't have any sort of unified belief system or philosophy. Since I do believe that emulation is an act of worship, an atheist could be following the Christ spirit but be ignorant of what it is they are exactly following. Just MHO so don't take that as fact or too seriously. I must also admit that I do sometimes too fall in to trap of making sweeping generalizations about atheist. Hopefully I will be able to overcome this prejudice.

I don't think these groups were misusing their religion here. I could be wrong though. Human Sacrifice and the Aztecs
Some reviews on Gavin and Yvonne Frost who's following is still decent
No this is not an attack against these groups or saying that such religions cannot be reformed but to illustrate that sometimes religions are set up in a way that can be pretty cruel. Do note these are of course extreme examples but they do violate the "general rule of thumb" regarding religions.

biggrin Well then I do hope your group dynamics play out nicely then. And congrats again.

Don't doooo it. I love men with long hair blaugh

Also, your idea about emulation is really interesting. I do think there are atheists that like Christ-like lives and are really good people, they just lack any kind of spiritual belief. I dunno. I think ultimately I have faith it'll all work out in the end, because I believe God is just and loving.

Also, I never experienced the evangelizing thing. We do have "invite one" but that's more encouraging people to join our community. Maybe it was a regional thing, the Methodist church certainly varies from conference to conference.

I have a ton of friends who graduated from there. I went to Sigler elementary, which feeds into PSHS, but I moved after the fifth grade. What year, if I may ask.
