My name is Linette, I'm 13 years old. I live in Oregon in the Salem-Keizer area. I've known Buddhism since I was really little. But I never understood a word they said because they spoke in Lao. And sadly, I only know the basic words. i.e. Eat, Sleep, Water, etc. I've even tried to find some books about it while my family goes around shopping. But sadly, I only found a few books and most of them are in Lao. So I tried school libraries, no help at all. Um... I'm a little quiet right now because one of my grandfathers died yesterday morning. I'm going to his funeral this weekend. Talk about fun rolleyes But besides that, I sort of like to talk, so PM me anytime you will like. Thank you.

Hello! I'm Jazmine. I'm not a Buddhist yet but I'm learning about it and I'm very interested in becoming one. My Mom is and has been a practicing Buddhist for a very long time so I have a very good source of information but if anyone has any good places I could go to learn more it would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou!

Hello, i am Jeffrey Michael Gottler, i am studying Fine Arts at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit Michigan. I am 19 years old i am pretentious, proud, emotional, arrogant, i hold prejudices, judgements and have a terrible temper. I dont know what buddhism really means though i have been interested in it seince i was 15. I have finaly mustered the courage to visit a local temple weekly only earlier today, so hopefully i will learn well.
I have studied Taoism, if i can really call that studying, and read most of the Tao Te Ching. I had for a short period of my life, at about 13 desired to be a catholic preist. but I lost the faith shortly after my confermation when i asked myself the question, why should i beleive in god? i became athiest, then agnostic, tried to be a self taught buddhist, then a self taught Taoist, and then lost it again, distracted by Freidrich Neitzche's nihilism.
Faith is crucial, i suffer too much without it, and dispite my personal fault i hope to grow to hold it forever.

My name is Beth. I'm 19 years of age, and a sophmore at Waubonsee Community College. I am hoping to become a full fledged Buddhist and even join a sangha when I am finally on my own (and in an area that has one). I want to learn all that I can about Buddhism. I first picked up a book entitled "The Heart of the Buddha's Teachings" by Thich Nhat Hanh and I am enraptured in this philosophy that has been teaching for thousands of years what I have always believed in my own heart. I would very much like to meet everyone here who is a practicing Buddhist, because I do not have anyone here to turn to, I have many questions and would like to know what I can, even about the different sects. Thank you very much!

My name is Amanda. I'm 28-years-old; I am unemployed and a current medical student going into Radiology in the future. I've always been fascinated with Buddhism because it was unlike Christianity where people are converted and made to fear going against God, or the teachings of the Bible. I live in SC; the Bible Belt and have recently started learning more about Buddhism in the past few years since a tragic death in my family.

I'm Thomas; 19 years old; attending Northwest Vista Jr. College as a psychology major (soon to be biology major) in San Antonio, TX; I'm a non-religious atheist with a large interest in anthropology as a hobby and thus in various belief systems. I came to an interest in Buddhism through a combination of Sam Harris' The End of Faith and a (rather irritating) discussion in the M&R forum in which I found out that not all sects of Buddhism are non-theistic and wanted to learn more about the various sects of the religion. My interest was largely spurred by a recent thread there which had some good discussion but got moved because the OP did not follow the ED's rules. My interest in Buddhism took a sharp turn upward three days ago when I picked up Ananda Maitreya's translation of The Dhammapada on a whim and started reading from it. I saw a link to this guild in an M&R regular's sig and found myself here. As you can see, I'm a very straight forward person.
That said, some of you probably already have a vague idea of who I am; as per my usual procedure I made sure to drop off a few posts here and there before hitting the introduction thread so I could let my reputaton precede me.

Hello, my name is Jean. I'm a 22 year old student (some say lifelong student xp ), and I'm currently unemployed. I became interested in Buddhism last summer after reading something in a livejournal community. I didn't know much about it, and wanted to learn more. Even though I attended a Baptist church during my preteen years, it didn't really stick for me. (I was raised agnostic.)
Anyway after reading the Dhammapada on a website, and looking through other resources, I decided that I'd like to find out more. I look forward to discussion with other people learning about Buddhism or practicing Buddhists. biggrin

Howdy! My name is Mary. I'm 17 and live in Connecticut USA. I'll be headed to college next year for a double major in Religion Studies and Psychology, hopefully with a minor in theater. We'll see how possible that is, though. Right now, I'm a senior in the International Baccealaureate program at my high school (which, regardless of being in it for almost two years, i still can't spellt he name).
Here on Gaia I run a religious/occult research and learning guild named CULT (the coalition for understanding litanies and theories). I have friend who is Buddhist, so in addition to learning for the purposes of my guild, I would very much like to learn so that I might have an intelligent conversation with my friend. haha.
Personally my religious beliefs are soemthing of a conglomeration of paganism (mostly druidry), christianity/judaism, taoism, and bits and peices of hinduism, likely buddhism too. It seems the more i learn about other religions, the more i notice that peices of my faith are found elsewhere. It's kinda nice.

Hello!
I'm Katie, a 17-year-old high school student living in Massachusetts.
Spirituality, as well as self-improvement, have been a very important part of my life for the past several years.
I am of no specific faith, though I draw from many different traditions.
I know only some of the basic principles of Buddhisim, but am quite interested in learning more.

Hi all. I am currently going to college for a web and graphic design major. I have been interested in Buddhism for a long time and I would like to begin practicing the religion rather than merely reading about it.
