Akaya hurried to comply with the Weyrwoman's commands, stepping towards the remaining eggs in line with the rest of the candidates. Not much stamina--life in your hands--she nodded to herself and moved her hands forward to her sides, half clinging to the white robe. She spared only a glance for the Benden riders, but the lure of the eggs drew her eyes back again. She had to concentrate, focus!

S'kor gave a sigh of relief. No harm and the bronze safely Impressed. As the Weyrwoman gives the call for atypicals he watches curiously. Only one so far. This was going to be interesting. But what about the crimsons?
Scarath gives a croon to the other bronze.

With her dragon repleted, Optheli wraps her arms around the little green's neck. It was time for the atypical to be revealed. I bet its a black. 'Mine, why do you bet with yourself?' Clearly the green was slightly confused. "Cause it's fun to guess Dynith."

Breathlessly, Malina moved to do as the Weyrwoman had said. There had been such a... a to-do that she hadn't quite been able to keep track of all of it, but what she knew was that a Brown and a Bronze had been hatched, and had both Impressed. This was very good news! Even if the Bronze had been very bossy, and had pushed the male Candidates around some. Well, wasn't that what Bronze dragons did? Maybe not all of them. She liked to think that some of them would be nice and not pushy and-- oh dear, she was woolgathering, and there were lines that needed to be reformed! Gathering up every bit of her courage, she put herself firmly back in place, and moved closer in. Would there be an Atypical dragon in that egg?

One possible dud, how often does this happen? Doesn't seem to happen a lot and his pride at being a Candidate here was stronger. He watched as the Gold challenged the Benden riders and looked to the dragons hoping none took up the challenge.

Saykiro moved up closer to the last egg. He prayed that this one had Theirs in the group that was left. Understanding that when the time came, this little one will need someone fast to help and Saykiro hoped that if he was the one, he would be close enough.

" . . . what's she doin' now? The Weyrwoman, I mean. She's got a shovel an' all, is she gonna smack the eggs now? Is this when the others hatch an' all? What about that other clutch?"

Ofelia leaned forward in her seat, her interests entirely raised. Cracking eggs naturally was...basic enough, but to see the woman hold that silvery-whatever it was in her hands and order people around? That was interesting.

"Heeeeyyy I can't see now either. They need ta move outta mah way so I can see what's goin' on!"

Aha! Now this is what S'raid had been waiting for. He leaned forward in his seat, staring down at the Sands fervently. This was a part of Hatchings he had never seen before, and though Galvanth was railing in his head about it being unnatural, and abhorrent, he didn't much care. He wanted to know exactly what happened after an Atypical dragonet was wrested from the egg. They were too weak to come out on their own, which was a strong argument toward letting them stay in the egg, but on the other hand, they surely served some use. He couldn't imagine that the Weyr would eat up resources keeping them alive if they didn't. And he was sure that he could find a use for them even if those others couldn't. Avidly, he watched from his perch, scanning the Sands and the Candidates on them for any sign of changes. I do not like this! Nothing could have been clearer than that.

Ooh, now it was interesting again. La had entirely missed Ofelia's summons, unfortunately, but now she was involved again. Now was the time for her to see if something new and exciting would happen. There was this egg, the eggs from the crimson...yeah, she still had a chance. And the healer in her was curious to see how egg cracking went. She hadn't been paying attention in her first clutches, and she had missed quite a few since getting into healing. The procedure must be a delicate one, and...well, she had to admit that even if it were gruesome, she wouldn't mind taking a look at the innards of any egg, even if it didn't have a dragonet inside it.

Stepping forward, slotting herself neatly into line, and grinning, she put her hands on her hips and waited.

Daroth snorted. Browns and bronzes. All the same. Always wanting something. Always trying to be bossy. The blue had closed his eyes and was simply enjoying Nasumyi's company.

Nasuymi snorted. "They Impress t'boys, right? When aren't they tryin t'get somethin'?"

Both were in agreement on that matter. Boys will always want something. Thankfully, she had Impressed her Daroth and wouldn't have to worry about every tail chasing her dragon.

Moira watched from the flat of her back as another brown impressed and hatched, followed by...

“Is that another bronze?” she asked, wide eyed with surprise. Serlaith lifted her head only briefly, swallowing the piece of meat she was eating with minimal chewing. Unlike her new bondmate, the young queen seemed significantly less surprised.

Our clutch is the best clutch, her eyes whirled a shade of blue to convey unmatched joy.

Moira was already scrambling to her feet, having worked her way out from under Serlaith's head as the young queen swallowed her food. She practically jumped up, pumping a fist in the air and beaming from ear to ear. Again, her finger went out first to S'raid, then the other Benden riders in succession, alternating left hand then right.

“In. Your. Faces.” Moira turned around, and began a new take on the previous Victory Dance, now complete with added booty shaking. The young queen cocked her head sideways, curious at to why Hers was making such a show.

What are we doing, Mine?

“Gloating,” Moira said cheerfully, “Because our clutch is the best clutch,” Moira echoed. It wasn't all of the Benden riders faults, really. Only S'raid had given her a distaste for the infamously arrogant Weyr, but it was enough. Never one to be outdone, Serlaith snatched up another piece of meat and pressed her head to the ground, rear in the air.

And then the young queen shook it like nobody's business, in the most awkward dragon imitation of a booty dance ever to grace the face of Pern.

Within the Stands, R'vik stretched out one leg and moved his foot in a circle, stretching in his seat. He wondered if those back at Benden knew how long a large clutch took to hatch -- not to say that it wasn't a joyous occasion, but rather the ex-runner wasn't used to sitting for such long periods of time. He wanted badly to stand up and stretch and to walk around, but he couldn't. Not now.

He moved his leg out of his wingmate's area and leaned forward as the Weyrleader addressed the Candidates, holding... A shovel? A look of confusion clouded his face. A shovel? Wouldn't they use something more... dignified than something used to dig into the earth or scoop up dung? Needless to say, his initial visions of how they freed the Atypes from their shells was shattered.

Reading His' thoughts, Xalth chuckled. What were you expecting, mine? It does what it is to do. The blue lifted his head to stare at the queen at her rumbling before dropping his gaze to look away. He instead settled to gentely nudge Galvanth, hoping that the bronze wouldn't call more attention to them.

[Edit]

The blue dragon froze as the future Goldrider stopped to point first at S'raid, then down the line. She pointed at His. HIS! When the gold dragonet herself began the ridiculous behavior, Xalth's eyes briefly whirled orange in irritation.

The dragon closed his eyes and shook his head, lifting his head a touch higher. He made a point to focus away from the pair, doing his best to ignore them.

As Abigail lined up to take the first sound swing, one of the Crimson's clutch rolled and the Moon Rising egg burst open rather suddenly, leaving a rather surprised green blinking up at the Weyrwoman. Abigail blinked back the little green then looked down at the Gentle Breeze egg and couldn't help but laugh.

The green warbled at her then turn around to regard the girls. Shaking her head, the Weyrwoman lowered her shovel and re-lined up so that she might actually be able to follow through as the green toddled off.

She gave no instructions, didn't really have any for that - she'd hoped the Crimson clutch might take a day or two more to hatch buuuuut it seems the energy of the place was drawing the dragons out. She better hurry.

Taking that swing, the egg crunched as one side was neatly shattered and oozed off. Only to be poked outward as a rather indignantly Crimson also oozed out onto the Sands, carried by the goo from within her shell.

A Crimson! The Weyrwoman was elated at that and grinned as she stepped back, letting the Atypical wander the Sands on her own. While they might hatch the Atypicals, it was still up to the dragon to find theirs. If they survived, they were welcomed... if not, they usually went Between when they got to exhausted to move. That, Abigail felt, was the dividing line between Old and New - chance at life.

Crooning loudly, she shambled first towards the boys then checked herself, as if remembering Hers lay in some other direction. And to everyone's surprise, she started towards the boys. Male Crimsonriders were generally rare.... could she add another to that number?

When Abigail saw Moira's gloating, she frowned and called out over the chaos, her voice cutting through the din, "MOIRA! That is enough!" It wasn't the speech of a woman trying to help potential riders but a clear, and obvious command from the highest authority in the Weyr. Brakiath also rumbled, her mindspeech cutting through the young queen's antics as well, a single demanding word: Enough..

S'kor frowned that the queen's rider's gloating. Not knowing much about the weyr, he wasn't going to say anything.... yet. It just didn't look proper, nor did he see those queen riders doing the same thing. Scarath gives a snort at the absolutely ridiculous posture of the queen. That was hardly dignified!

Dynith leans against Hers. She absolutely wanted No! part of what was going on. 'Theli hides a smile. She certainly looked like she was having fun.

Akaya thought the green was just as surprised to hatch as the Weyrwoman was to see it hatch, but off she went with little a care. She was torn between watching the green toddling towards the girls, or the Weyrwoman doing her duty--and settled for glancing back and forth at both, probably looking a bit crosseyed in the process. The crimson that hatched--oh, a crimson! That had to be a good sign!--was off for the boys.

Ah! The rather sudden Hatching of the Green took Jalarant's eyes off of what Abigail was doing, and he nearly missed her good swing with her shovel. The egg cracked, and now there were two dragons hatched on the sands! He sucked in his breath at the sight of the Crimson; he'd hoped that one would hatch, and a sentimental part of him was glad that it wasn't from the Crimson's clutch. It would've been terribly sad to have a Crimson born from the Between'd mother's clutch.

He shook his head to clear it of any depressing thoughts, holding himself up tall in case either dragon would head his way. He'd be ready!

"PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF."

First egg was a crimson and it still went for the boys. If La had been just the slightest bit less restrained, she would have clapped a palm to her forehead. As it was, she simply rolled her eyes and waited. Everything nice went to the boys today, it seemed. Although there was the little green...La smiled at her, waiting to see what the creature did.
