Kai walked through the portal and saw that she entered right out front of the hospital near the street. She felt a little bad that she hadn't thanked Nightshade or saluted Tim back. She then walked into the front of the building to the registration desk. Tim was still not behind her. She got to the front desk where the woman asked her what she needed.
"I came to check out a friend."
"Only family can visit or check anyone out here."
The woman replied. Kai was a little upset by what the woman had said, and she had to get around to finding an excuse.
"Well, more like a friend of the family. I came here to check out Alfred Pennyworth."

Tim took a step out onto the concrete as he looked up to the sign for Gotham General Hospital. He turned in time to see the portal close into itself before he straightened his jacket out. He walked through the front doors and took a brisk pace to the front desk in time for Kai's last few words to the lady.
"Well, we're here to see how he's doing.... please, with the whole city going crazy, I don't know if anyone's seen him in a while."
Tim took on a very saddened expression, and his words stressed his eagerness to see the old man. He looked at the woman, his eyes also portraying his worry.
"Please, ma'am...we want to know how he's holding up."
With their roughed up appearance, it only heightened the effect of sympathy they'd recieve... two hard-life kids looking for the old man that needed to go to the hospital... and people tended to spin stories upon their assumptions in their heads pretty quickly, and even if they weren't consciously thinking of those kinds of scenarios it would still effect their decision making... in this case, Tim hoped his arrival helped Kai out in getting to see Alfred.

"Yes, please could we see him. It would mean to the world to all of us if we could see each other..."
Kai added. She took her good hand and slightly rubbed some of the dirt off her face. She could see where Tim was getting at, after awhile his expression became easy for her to read. The best she could figure he was planning on riding the sympathy boat into Alfred's room to see him, so why not go along with it?
"Alright can I get your names for record purposes?"
"Uh... yea..."
For a moment Kai felt a total win. She kept it to herself looked at Tim then at the woman.
"I'm Kai Summers Grayson and this is Timothy Drake Wayne."
"He's on the 3rd floor in 341, he's recovering so visitors should be fine, He's not busy, and depending on what the nurses say he can go home with you two tonight."
The woman's mood changed quickly. Almost shocked, and she suddenly became obliged to tell them exactly where he was.

Tim's face lit when the woman agreed to let them see Alfred.... and it took quite a bit of willpower to keep himself from turning to look at Kai after she said their 'names'. Once they headed off for the elevator, Tim walked so he was a bit closer to Kai. He spoke in a quick whisper.
"Any reason you mixed names like that?"
Yes, her choice of names drew his attention... and he was glad that the woman didn't have the same reaction as he did. The word 'Wayne' always drew attention, even though Bruce clearly couldn't be the only man in Gotham with that last name.

"Oh...... OH..."
Kai stood in the elevator next to Tim. She hadn't realized that he was younger that she remembered, maybe she just took his age for granted.
"Tim, where I'm from I kinda used d**k as a crutch... said that I dated him to get into places, and as for you... well Bruce adopted you."
She pushed her hair behind her ears and then placed both her hands back into her jacket pockets.

Tim stared at Kai a moment. One side of his mouth curved into somewhat of a smile as he huffed out a short sudden breath of air. As he kept his eyes on her, the smile slowly disappeared. She wouldn't joke about that kind of thing, especially at a time like this.
"Wait wait- so, Bruce... but, what about my-"
He stopped short and took his eyes away from Kai. No, no he didn't accept that. Tim stared at the doors of the elevator as they opened. He walked out of the elevator and turned after he found a spot out of the way next to the wall.
"-what happened? What happened to my dad?"
Tim took on a very serious tone, even though his voice was kept at an appropriate volume.

Kai looked at the ceiling of the elevator as it dinged on the 3rd floor. She walked forward quietly stalling sticking her arm out in front of the door as she tried to figure out a proper response. If she told him what happened then this Tim surely would try and stop what happened, it might not be a good idea if she didn't want to mess up his time stream. Or maybe it was inevitable what would happen and that even if she told him it would happen regardless. She shook her head and looked at him.
"Tim it's complicated... and... please don't get mad at me if I don't tell you. Just know that life goes on, that whatever happens in your future you will make it through. You have friends."

Once again, Tim forced himself to look down the hall as he took a couple deep breaths. After several moments, he turned back to look at Kai. His expression showed how much he was trying to calm.
"Ok.... you're right... and now's not a good time- we're here for Alfred."
It felt to Tim like he was forcing out his words, except for the last thing he said. Now more than ever he really wanted to see that old butler.

"I'm sorry Tim... I probably shouldn't have even mentioned it..."
Her voice was a little upset, as if she had done something horribly wrong and she was truly sorry for it. She walked out of the elevator and followed a sign that listed the directions of room numbers.

Tim followed silently along as he looked at the signs leading to different rooms. 300-320.... 321-340..... 341.
They took a right to view a room and Tim stopped in the doorway. He peered in cautiously, not quite sure what to expect from this point.
"...Alfred?"

Alfred was lying on his hospital bed, propped up in a seated position and fast asleep. A tray of mostly eaten hospital food and water sitting was sitting beside him. The small television hovering above his bed was just informing the viewer that it would be back to it's turner classic movie in just a few moments.

To see Alfred in a hospital bed really pulled at Tim's heart.... but at the same time, he was relieved to see how he was doing. He was eating, he could sit up so... and from what the lady said, he was recovering well.
'Depending on what the nurses say, he can go home with you two tonight.'
Robin walked further into the room as quietly as he could, all the while looking curiously at the butler... from what he could tell, Alfred should know him... and the thought that he wouldn't could not be regarded quite yet. Tim prayed Alfred knew them, and that's as much as he could do for the moment.
"...Alfred?"
He repeated softly and cautiously as he approached a couple feet from the old butler's bedside.

This time the sound made it to his ears, and the older man woke himself from his nap. As it registered that the sound had been his name, he turned his head around to face whoever was in the room with him. His eyes first fell on Robin, and though there was recognition in them, they traced over they young boy’s features a few times. As though he were trying to figure out just who he was talking to.
Which…he was. Nearly all of the Robins were dark haired young men. He’d mistaken D**k for Tim when Robin had first appeared in the mansion, and now he had Master Terry to keep in mind as well. Though this obviously wasn’t the arctic blue-eyed teenager moonlighting as Batman. And…it didn’t quite look like D**k. So unless this universe was that humorlessly warped, this was…
”Master Timmothy?” Alfred asked. His voice as clear as it was on any other day.

After Alfred broke the silence with Tim's name, a big smile spred across his face. He did recognize him... it didn't mean that he was necessarily from the same 'world', but they had to start somewhere.
"Yeah, it's me. How're you doing?"
Tim's relief projected into his voice. The butler looked and sounded just fine...Robin wanted to know what happened too, but that could wait.
