"Well, I had the most wonderful help finding it." She smiled widely, and turned to thank Howl again for the dance. Once the teal haired boy had walked off in search of his mother, Calintha's stomach took the opportunity to grumble rather loudly.

She laughed a little. "I'm going to head over to see what can be nibbled on, seeing all this delicious food is making me hungry!" The blonde girl stalked off to the side of the room where the food tables were set up, and made herself busy filling a plate.

Adira listened attentively, just as a lady should when another was talking. "He's a CEO, from what I know. Though my Father doesn't talk about his clients business much." She eyed the other people gathering at the table. There was quite a crowd now, did they all have strong ties with Jada? She wasn't sure, but there was certainly a rather shocking array of hair colors. Blonde, a boy who had left with a shocking shade of teal, light green, cinnamon... it reminded her of a dysfunctional rainbow. She laughed a little internally, only showing by a slight grin on her lips.

"France is a lovely country. My family has a small vineyard there. And it sounds like fascinating work, what your father does." They would go an visit the vineyard sometimes when she was a child, but Adira hadn't been there in years. She also had no particular interest in microchips and holograms, but they could do interesting things in the long run. "My father is the vice president of his company, And he oversees international and regional affairs and relations." She knew, however, that in just a few years he would assume full control of company. And since he dealt with all of the clients, no one would complain at the switch either.

Just a moment later Audrey and the debutant herself, Miss Jada Chamberlyn arrived at the table. She had also noticed Seth and Eve were fairly close and seemed to be heading over as well. "Miss Jada, such a pleasure to see you again. It has been far, far too long." She smiled the most sweet and gracious smile that she could manage. She wondered how much of Szelem's influence had gone into Jada's dress. It had rather seemed the the older Chamberlyn woman had wanted her daughter to wear something so eye catching that she could never just slip away. It was slightly blinding, but still pretty. It almost looked like her dress was made of some shining liquid.

Lucas smiled at Serah as she walked away, quietly bewildered. His small hand went to his cheek, his little mouth open in an awed expression. Come back in ten years? What would he do for ten years? What if she forgot she owed him a dance?

Oooh, he was really close to where the food was. The child turned his attention to the demands of his little belly. Girls were confusing.

*

Most of Jada's court was sitting on the dais, near Mother and Daddy. The two members she cared about were down here, surrounded by people. There wasn't a choice on where she wanted to be. The dark-haired debutante beamed at Audrey, watching her younger sister drag off Marlo before anything could be said to him. Purple eyes followed him almost guiltily for a moment before people were speaking to her. The Xanis brothers had come to the actual ball? Her cheeks were flushed red. Thank goodness she could claim it was from exertion.

"Fallon, dear," Jada leaned in, confidentially, "If they were in that much danger, mother would never have put me in this dress." She tilted her head to the dark-skinned girl, eyes mischievously. "She needs them to be able to see me, remember?" her lips weren't moving but barely, her voice low and intimate for the conversation of the two of them only.

Purple eyes moved to Adira, and Jada's face brightened. "Miss Adira! I'm glad you could make it." She had never been one for the formalities of Miss and Mister among peers, but Adira had set the tone. Her eyes crinkled at the corners. Szelem viewed Adira as a threat for the wealthy old roosters that Jada wanted none of; Jada viewed Adira as a comrade. In a sense. "It has to have been a year, at least." Swarovski Crystals glinted on her dress. There were so many people at the table that she didn't know. A green-haired girl said her name just loudly enough for Jada to hear, and the young woman tilted her head at them. "We'll have to speak later."

Adira knew how it was. Balls were for mingling, and getting to know people. Her mother had told her to socialize. She smiled up at Adira, gave a small curtsy, and moved over to the green-haired girl on crutches who had said her name. The curiosity was killing her. "Had someone in this direction called me?" she asked, teasingly. She smiled at all of those assembled. So many people.

Seth was about to reply that it wasn't Eve's fault to feel bad about.. when he visibly was startled, adjusting the weight to the new girl who had entered the fray. (Who wouldn't have been startled, if they had been tackled?) Once he found out who it was, it seem that his irritation levels had gone up higher than Eve probably saw it. 'Irate' to describe him was putting it gently, looking as if he was about to shove Serah down a toilet seat and flush her down.

A tag on the hair, a grimace from Seth. "What are you doing here?" He looked down on the younger girl, expecting an answer. He pulled on her cheek (quite hard), as if it verbally said 'What's the big idea of tackling me?'. But Serah was going on, and on about something that Seth made out to be a fairy and unicorn. Now, he was clearly annoyed, although it was unclear about about her presence, or the fact that she was talking some nonsense about fairies, oo something and other. (Why the hell, a fairy? Was this the goddamned Tinkerbell or something? Although she had beenprobably been correct on her assumption on kicking the fairy.)

For all of his anger, it almost seemed that he had a .. sibling-like relationship with the girl? Clearly, there was nothing else between them. "We can leave her behind." It wasn't that awkward of a situation for her to be in, from Seth's point of view. But then again, awkwardness was something that didn't exist in the other male's mind.

"Personally I suspect that Hospital Gowns and Bicycle helmets were designed by the same twisted council of people." Jaimie confided, grimacing at Gabby's note on Hospital Gowns. He could sympathize.

Mmm. Dunno. I think whoever designed hospital gowns was actually worse. I mean Bike helmets at least look interesting when you aren't wearing them. Hospital gowns are not only boring, but drafty, uncomfortable, and ugly." Oddy countered.

It was through pinched cheeks that Seraah introduced herself to Eve. "Ow. I'm Serah -ow- Eos." Her cheeks were red when Seth's hand left her cheek but not without a bright smile. The red would fade in the next hour (probably) but Serah walked to Eve, cupping her hand in a mock whisper.

"Seth lives in a magical castle of fairies and unicorns. He's simply in denial over it. By the way, he likes to kick fairies so you might want to watch out for that." Serah was now using Eve as a strategic obstacle between her and Seth as she spoke, hands on the other girl's shoulders, Serah's smile figure behind her. In any other situation, Seth might have gone after her-- but Serah decided to take advantage of his companion (who he wouldn't chase. Probably.)

"You could treat a fellow unicorn companion more nicely after not seeing them for years. I don't think it'd be very nice to leave me behind. Right Ms. Summers? I've seen you around school-- I've always admired your short hairstyle. Not many could pull it off!" She grinned, a warm smile directed to Eve but caution radiated from her posture, undoubtedly from Seth's possible anger.

She was pushing it. Really pushing it.

Before Howl took his leave, he made certain to let Fallon know he had intentions of speaking to her later.

"You look absolutely dashing, Miss Fallon. I must beg your pardon, as I need to check up on my mother, but I must insist upon dancing with you later." He paused for a moment before adding in "It would be lovely to introduce you to her, if you are able to spare the time later." Mother would most likely appreciate the company of a young lady who was quite familiar with Europe. Perhaps it would even put her at ease.

With a slight dip of his head for a gentle bow, he uttered "If you will excuse me," before exiting the area. A small smile crept onto his face as he caught a faint glimpse of Miss Calintha scurrying over to a nearby table in search of food. He inwardly chuckled, since if she had asked him, he would have escorted her there as well. She must be trying very hard to blend in he mused silently while his feet guided him back to where his mother was waiting.

The teal haired lad could have easily sat himself down, joining the lovely brunette in whatever company she might have been in, but instead, he simply extended his hand to the lady.

"If I might have this dance, Mother?"

With a smile, the woman politely excused herself before standing herself up, and easily being guided into entwining her arm with her son's. "It would be a pleasure, son."

Soon enough, the two elegant figures had glided onto the dance floor, and once more Howl was dancing like the gentleman he always worked so hard to be. At least there was one saving grace in the fact that his mother was indeed shorter than him. It was very hard for a lead to make a dance interesting when your partner was taller than you.

He'd seen a brief furrow of frustration. Maybe it was at the well-aimed blow to the monarchy; she served a princess, after all. Maybe it was just because he'd removed the topic she probably felt was the most appropriate when you were a captain dancing with a prince. Maybe it was just the use of shits and giggles.

When there was a set topic to talk about, she could do so easily, authentically and with relevance to whoever she was talking to. She'd been so prepared to talk like Captain Aries to Prince Alexandros. There was nothing she knew about him she could talk of without asking him about himself, which just put the onus back on him. Worrying about a conversation was juvenile. She had to stop.

"I -- "

-- the music was drawing to a close.

" -- 'll take you up on that at a later date."

The dancers clapped politely afterwards. Hero's mouth was quirking. "If you give me a list of topics I can talk about in advance," she said, "I'll discuss them. Mr. Rasmussen."

"Nice to meet you all" Grams smiled, Azzo nodded in silent agreement. He left his Grams to most of the talking he'd butt in when she started heading towards a bit of a undesirable conversation.

"Yes she looked very pretty." Grams agreed with Quinn, "And might I say I love your hair. It's a very lovely shade of Green." She said, not sure how many others took the girls hair but she adored such a bright color.

Grandma Crowley then bid a farewell to Quinn's mother before smiling at Melody, "Oh has he really been talking about me?" She looked towards Azzo shooting him one of those looks that gave him that cue in which he could literately recite what would come next.

"He hasn't said a thing about such a pretty girl. He rarely ever speaks about his social life." She leaned in to whisper to Quinn and Melody, "He's normally shy about going after something he wants when it involves the female persuasion."

"Grams!" He said looking at her, "Not here. Please." He was a bit red scratching the back of his neck, honey brown eyes looking elsewhere while trying to figure out how to cover for that one.

"See what I mean?" She said winking to the girls, placing a hand on Azzo's shoulder. The woman was shorter than Azzo, she had to look up to him almost. However, it didn't seem to bother her much at all. She waved her hand as if to clear the air, "He does what he can though, keeps me company when he can." she smiled at him.

Azzo was still flushed looking at his grams, shaking his head, "Would anyone mind me stealing Melody for a dance? No? Good." He didn't wait for much of an answer before he gave one himself, he REALLY wanted to get away from Grams for a moment. He paused, "Grams go buy yourself something nice at the auction, but stay away from the dates please."

Melody was doing her best not to laugh at the little old woman that was Azzo's grandmother. They way she butt in and went about beginning to tease the poor boy was something she knew her father would have loved to seen. They shared a bit of the same personality there.

"I don't mind if he hasn't spoken about me," she replied to the shorter woman. "After all, we're just friends, ne? Nothing special about that~" She ignored the pang in her chest at such words.

Then of course, before she could dwell on the matter any more, he was dragging her off to the dance floor, his hand holding her own. Flushing brightly, she stared at the ground until they reached an open spot. "That desperate to get away from your grandmother?" she teased softly.

Elzo frowned, then grabbed Kayley bu the hand. "One dance is all you get." One dance, then, he was going to go on a wild Audrey hunt. Safari balls in full stock and on hand for the upcoming battles.
Life was like a pokemon battle, and right now Elzo's rival was named Kayley, and she was blocking his way into the safari zone that had the rare Audrey. A pokemon we was so wanting in his pokedex for sure.

Marlo shrugged. "A dance then, you tell me where you older sister might have fled to." He blushed, realizing this was still Jada's younger sister. "Not that it's greatly important."

It was getting close to 11:00, and Szelem stood, moving off of the dais and moving to mix and mingle within the crowd. Frankly, she was so far unimpressed with the actions of her three daughters.

Kayley, following around the older of those middle-class brothers like a little lost puppy. Moving around on the dance floor with him in her pretty little dress, she had to admit her daughter cut a fine little figure for thirteen. Already she had Jada's height. Hopefully it meant that the two would gain Szelem's height instead of keeping that stumpy feminine form of her eldest daughter. She hated the fact Jada was so curvy, rather than svelte. But Kayley was looking like she'd shape up to be the same imposing figure that her mother cut. A small prideful smile curled up the corners of Szelem's mouth. Zora, talking to the younger of the brothers, was too wild. It drove the woman crazy. At least she didn't look infatuated, merely playful. That was good. She was even more slender than Kayley, her figure still boyish even in the black dress. Was it too soon to be considering potential well-bred young men for these younger daughters of hers? Certainly not. It was never too early. Zora would take even more pressure than she was forcing on Jada before the redheaded girl would break, however.

Mrs. Chamberlyn smiled, holding hands with the right people, whispering into just the right ears. Most of these older people she could work like a charm; she knew how. It was her peers and the younger generation she had problems with. Oh, yes. She moved through the ball, encouraging people out to the silent auctions, encouraging them to higher donations, playing on just the right sympathies. Really, Jada should be doing this, but her daughter was over there in the corner with her little peasant girlfriends and... Seth and Adira? Green eyes managed to keep from looking mildly piqued. Who was that young woman that Seth had brought, anyhow? Was she his girlfriend? It was hard enough to get him to appear at any social situations, even alone. For him to appear with a woman on his arm was intriguing.

Michael watched his wife mingling, his purple eyes serious. Szelem... She was and wasn't the girl he'd married almost twenty-eight years ago, when she was young and spirited. Her joy had turned to a cold veneer that hid the woman he loved. His fingers tapped on his chair thoughtfully, turning his attention back to the older man sitting next to him. "So, Mr. Carson." he said finally, carefully considering the man Szelem was pushing his daughter toward for marriage. Oh, he knew the game his wife was playing with their daughter and this man. He didn't approve. But it wasn't his policy to interfere. Jada would have to ask for his help. So far she had once, and she'd allowed herself to get sucked back into the whirlpool. He couldn't help her if she didn't help herself.

His mind flickered to the divorce papers locked in his desk upstairs. You couldn't help those people who wouldn't help themselves. To the settlement papers he'd drawn up, assuring Szelem of a healthy lifestyle. Szelem would want to remain in this home; that was a no. It wasn't hers to remain in, not anymore. Her lifestyle would be expensive to maintain... his mind started flickering to something out of place in the setting of the ball, his eyes going to the débutante in white, fluttering around the table that contained her friends. For tonight, he wanted everything to go perfectly, before reality crashed down around the ears of his wife and children.

At least one of his children would have the support of people who seemed to genuinely care for her.

The clock struck 11:00. On the dance floor, the song changed. In another hour and a half, the ball would begin to start winding down.

*

Kayley released Elzo's hand as the song came to an end. Pouted up at him. “Well, thank you for my dance.” She told the darker-haired young man, and gave him a curtsy. “Remember, you can't tell Jada I told you what...” she looked around. “What that person did. Okay?” Again, that meant nothing- it only covered one specific person, not the rest of the people in Elzo's little circle. Kayley almost scampered away from him, leaving the older man to his own devices in the middle of the dance floor. Leaving Elzo with the knowledge of just what kind of a creep was after the dark-haired girl. Hey, at least he and his brothers weren't the only people to break into the Chamberlyn Estate for some unusual purposes.

Looks like Elzo had won Kayley's gym badge.

*

Zora babbled at Marlo almost the entire dance. Told him teasing little tidbits of what she may or may not know about her sister's... fondness for him. “You know,” she said finally, “She thinks you're interested in Fallon.” Bluntness at last. “My sister meddles. If you're not careful, Mr. Marlo...” she clucked her tongue. Zora didn't know about Fallon's particular fascination with the same gender, but she knew Jada well enough to say that she was going to try and set him up with someone. Most likely the woman of his apparent affections. “I do hope you clear up any misunderstandings before they escalate.” Unless she was misreading him, which was a possibility. She was only thirteen, no paragon of romance or body language.

She beamed at him, releasing his hand to move after her green-gowned sister, seen toddling across the dance floor in her patent leather shoes. Marlo, like his brother, was left to devices all his own.

*

Jada was at the Rescue Rangers table, watching other people babble and chatter. She really did need to get out there and mingle with the guests. Needed to go dance some more with those few people who were here for the charity, not just those who were there for her debut. They had doctors who needed attention, thanks for all their hard work, though many of them were already cornered by wealthier people asking questions.

She sipped at her little glass of water. Nothing else in this dress, on pain of death should there be a spill. She smiled at those she had to, and listened with half an ear to the conversation around her.

PostPosted: Sat Apr 17, 2010 10:18 pm

Grams blinked, "Oh, alright~" She said with a grin. Giving a soft wave as the two left, Azzo guiding Melody as fast as he could out to the dance floor without Running.

"Heh, I suppose I will go check the Auctions." She smiled and gave a small curtsy to Quinn, Lily and Xander "Pardon me while I do so. It was nice to meet you all."

Azzo hadn't commented on the friends thing, however he watched as grams meandered her way towards the Auctions. "I honestly think she's trying to kill me with embarrassment" He said softly. Before taking her hand to twirl her around before the dance started, "And sadly yes, she shouldn't be so forward... It's kind of why I don't tell her things, she assumes."

He shook his head still a bit red from where she'd embarrassed him. "She has a tendency to .... say more than she should. Always has." He shook his head.

"Though can't say I could do without her... Her and Gramps were probably closer to my real parents. Though I think I've said that before..." He sighed softly as they danced, his eyes skimming over the floor. His eyes stopped on a red head, "Does she look familiar?" He asked curiously not pausing but moving so Melody could see, "The red head." He hummed with a music.

((OOC: Just tossing this up here for those interested. Mmm, flavor post.))

Over at the auction table, Azzo's grandmother, and anyone else who looked, would find several items of mention for auction, silent auction. Anyone who wished could present to the person in charge their name and basic information, and in exchange they would be provided a number with which they could bid. It was, indeed, a silent auction. Until the winners were announced, no one would know who was bidding. And on request, the anouncement of the winner of each particular item could be discreet, glossed over to that no one would know something had been won.

It had taken more than a few strings being pulled for Szelem to manage this. Everything that had been acquired had been acquired as a 'donation' of sorts from interested parties. Of the objects for auction, several had already caught interested eyes.

Some of the lots included things such as a day-long session at a prominent Destiny City spa; a weekend cruise, leaving port from a neighboring city; A diamond tennis bracelet graciously donated by a jewelry store; a lovely set of golf drivers and a day-long all-inclusive session at a nearby 18-hole golf course; Dinner and drinks at a local country club; Season tickets (club seats!) to home games for the Destiny City football team; Pieces of art donated by local artists; Two All-Access Tickets to the Destiny City Film Festival; and a dinner with the young debutante.

There were more things, tiny little donations that were not expected to bring in much for the charity but that would still add from the hopefully-considerable total that would go to assist the hospitals in a much-needed expansion and healthcare for the many John-and-Jane does that littered the hospital coma ward and even into other wards. Their hospitals were filled almost to overflowing.

The people running the table were pleasant, dealing with each bidder as they came by the table, placing their bids.

Esen made a nod at Azzo's grandmother's compliment; she wanted to stay silent if she could. What if she said or did the wrong thing? However, she could understand how he felt about embarrassment - at least, though, he had an opportunity out of there. Involving Melody. Lucky. Lucky both, actually, from the way Azzo acted... fourtunately, before her mind could drift, Azzo's grandmother was bidding them farewell. "Oh, it was nice to meet you too," she replied listlessly.

Quickly after that, she realized; two others came by who accompanied Azzo. Lily and Xander, she believed their names were. Esen was quite silent for some time before speaking a lie: "I apologize, but I need to use the facilities." A brisk nod, and Esen walked away as quickly as she could without causing herself any physical injury, in an attempt to disappear into the crowds... ha, that was rich. Plenty of people noticed her hair - she, also, liked the shade, but she did not want to have to pay to dye it again.

There was a face she had a name for, but that deep face (who had a very nice, though short, dress - then again, almost anyone else there who was female and looked to be a teenager actually had a more grown-seeming body) was one she wasn't too sure about, and was in the debutante's court anyhow. At least she wasn't the debutante. Jada had dark purplish eyes, almost like Rica's (she couldn't tell for sure, though, keeping her distance from that table in particular), and her black updo almost made the dress look brighter than it already was. She was quite beautiful and held a smile to her face... but how did she really feel?

'...maybe I shouldn't try to figure it out,' Esen thought. 'There's a chance they could be real as much as they could be under lock-and-key.' Her thought process was shattered by one of the many men present, asking her to dance. She pretended not to hear him and walked away again. A fish out of water was an understatement, how about a fish on Mount Everest?

A few pieces of art caught Esen's eye from a distance, and walking to it, she saw the auction area. Now that she thought about it, she did bring some money. The check they gave to the Chamberlyns when she first came was smaller than those of others, only about $20,000, but there were auctions. Hopefully the prices on some wouldn't be very high, though ($5,000 was high enough already in Esen's eyes).

After giving the needed information to the lead auctioneer to get a bid number (she used E.Q. Saylor for her name here, after all, it isn't fake!), she took a closer examination at some of the items.

"One day someone will come out with a line of them that are fashionable." Cordelia chuckled softly as she spoke, lightly placing her hand on Oddy's arm once more. On a girlish level she had to give Gabbie props; she herself would've loathed anyone catching her in one of the papercloth gowns.

At the mention of 'homework' it seemed as though her visage darkened, although the shift was slight enough that it might not have been noticed by anyone other than Gabbie and perhaps Oddy as he gloved hand tightened ever so slightly on his arm. "This is a completely different sort of drowning than homework would have been." She snorted softly before brushing it off, refusing to let darker thoughts diminish the evening.

"It really is a lovely event, all in all, though... And it is nice to take a moment to dust off dresses and heels for a special occasion." Or simply buy new ones, which she had done eagerly. Shopping was always an added on incentive just as much as it was a distraction.
